One of my employees came into town for work and demanded that we visit this legendary restaurant. I had heard about it here and there but was not aware of the hidden gem I was so close to for so long. While this is a "buffet style", the service is extremely friendly and helpful. There's a very wide selection of options that all look amazing! And everything I got proved that to be correct. This is a great, cozy experience that is only open on the weekends and is totally worth a visit.

Great selection, friendly service, delicious food. My only complaint would be the polish sausage was a little dry and tough, but it was sitting out on a buffet, so... The rest of the food was above average, kind of like my grandma used to make. I certainly got my money's worth with the delicious food. Highly recommend!

Buffet is amazing and the mashed potatoes are delicious and the stuff cabbage rolls are delicious too . They are so yummy

First time here and I was in love at first bite. The food is amazing and very tasty and the service was excellent I never had to ask for a refill on my drink and the waitress was so friendly and polite I can't wait to go back

Booth seating on the bar side. Plenty more seating available.

I love the stuffed cabbage and polish sausage. Desserts are just ok, but I go for the meat and carbs.

The chicken was delicious and the pancakes were out of this world. Similar to some of the other comments, it would be nice to first come in, sit down, get relax then have someone take your order when dining in. However you place your order at the front door and then can sit down. The customer service lacked tremendously from the youthful stuff(late teens/very early 20's) But I will say the most underwhelming thing about this experience was the building. Inside & out it was very primitive & just flat out old. I know they just moved from another location and looking to get their foot in the door. But hopefully a renovation is in the plans. The inside is a bit of an eye soar. Needless to say, I would come back if in the area because of the food. But I wouldn't go out of my way patronize them.

Considering I am from Texas, I will admit I can be a little particular when it comes to BBQ, but this was pretty good BBQ, especially this far north. The smoked meats were flavorful, tender, and had a good slow-cooked taste. The brisket, pulled pork, rib tips, and sausage all brought something different, and the variety made the meal feel like a true sampler experience. The sides were just as good. The mac and cheese, red beans and rice, collard greens, apple slaw, and cornbread all had that comforting soul food feel and paired really well with the BBQ. Overall, Soul & Smoke delivered on both the smoke and the soul. Great flavor, generous portions, and a satisfying meal from start to finish. Definitely a spot worth visiting if you are in Evanston and looking for good BBQ and soul food.

They were playing this really static filled the TV and I have no idea how they can work with that in the background all day lol But the service was friendly and kind! We tried the hot honey, chicken sandwich, waffle, fries, mac & cheese, and the chicken tenders with the corn muffin. OK, first of all, the mac & cheese is outstanding?? Genuinely so flavorful and had that great crispy cheese char on top- loved it. I would go back just for that. The cornbread??? I don't know what they are putting on top of that, but they are absolutely drenching it in some insanely good honey?? I could swim in it and I want it again The chicken tenders were super flavorful and very well seasoned. Everything here is really well seasoned OK you can tell that this isn't made by white people lol. The meat was really tender, and the outside was crispy. I didn't have the sandwich, but it looked tasty and very spicy. The waffle fries were fine, but honestly a skip. Overall, really glad I tried it! I can see why people love it and I'm excited to check out the Lakeview location!
