After landing in Chicago, I headed straight to this restaurant for a cevapi meal. Cevapi is grilled sausages with raw onion, ajvar (eggplant relish) and kajmuk (clotted cream) on the side. The meat sausages are placed between two pieces of lepinja (grilled bread). Their lepinja is outstanding here! I also ordered a Slovenian coca-cola (Cocktail) with my meal. This meal was a great start for what would be a fantastic weekend in Chicago! The Uber driver who picked me up (drove to my hotel) wondered how I wound up at this place from Chicago OHare International Airport. Staff is friendly and accommodating here. I passed on Bosnian coffee. The waitress told me, "next time." I thought this was cute. Bosnian people are very welcoming and accommodating. The price of my meal with drink was very reasonable. I'm also happy to see that this place survived the Covid shutdown. Interior is clean here as well. No dirty tables or chairs. There was a television in the upper corner of the dining room broadcasting a soccer match. Lovely to see this. This place is located in a small strip mall. It was also nice to see a steady flow of Bosnians entering and leaving the restaurant. I would love to dine here again if I ever return to Chicago. The menu also features various other Bosnia dishes. My better half and I decided to try a new place. Bosnia Grill had good reviews so we decided to stop by. We were treated a very nice woman who I suspect is one of the owners. She was nice and very helpful explaining what the items were on the menu! There were so many sausages and pies (potato pies, meat pies, etc) on the menu. We got a potato pie and meat platter. The meat platter had many different savory sausages and their home made sour cream dipping sauce. Each type of sausage was absolutely amazing and true to the foods regional influences such as Austria and Turkey!!!! Absolutely delicious. The potato pie was amazing as well. The filling was good, but the crust is huge and done perfectly. It's soft in the inside of flaky on the outside. Under the sausages were wrinkled fries that have been soaking in the sausages' juices and were incredible. We didn't try the deserts in the fridge, but they looked authentic and delicious! We were very happy to stumble into this place! The service was friendly and fast. The dining room was clean. And the food was absolutely delicious! The price point wasn't bad at all either! Everything was super authentic and really delicious. I tried a few things very typical in Bosnia (Salty milk, Burek meat pie, Grilled meat platter). Although, the Kajmak cheese spread was really light in flavor, I typically prefer a stronger flavor. The space is really small with only a few tables available and their drinks only come in bottles/cans. I heard they do take reservations, so this could be an option if you want to guarantee a table. As well as the pita bread was nicely moist like it should be since the first time I ate dish all the way back in 1998 in Bosnia. I'll preface by mentioning if you like spicy foods you will find most "Yugoslavian" fare to be bland. For this reason I had never checked them out but being that we were in the area and my Bosnian friend was pushing the agenda, we stopped in for a quick lunch. Per their menu and per my friend's explanation, Bosnian food is about experiencing the food for what it is. You experience the food for the natural flavors that come from them. Take a look at a few of the photos posted here on Yelp. Their Cevapcici ("chevapi") meal is basic. A moist, spongy like bread served with a top and bottom. (This bread begs to be dipped but I haven't seen any sauces or dips to speak of) Sausages rolled and look like a plumper version of "brown and serve" sausages. On the side, a serving of a creamy cheese and a wedge of onion cut with pieces the length of your finger. You pull some bread and dip it in cheese, take a bite of the sausage with onion. My friend looks at me and says "whoa, the onion is so spicy buddy" and there's your spice. He bought a few "pies" for his children and mentioned that he often buys these for them, when he's nearby. He's tried the same in Skokie, but the taste wasn't as good. The pictures section contains a copy of their current menu. It's limited and pricing is perfect for the type of food. If trying this for the first time, it's good to get an entree and then order a pie for sharing. Cheese, meat, spinach, it's all good and only $5 dollars each. Think fresh baked pastry, moist and easy to pull apart and enjoy. I've had a meat pie with a side of onion slices and felt satisfied. Lunch for two will not break the bank and as my buddy says "better for you buddy, than eating fast food." Since our first lunch here about a three weeks ago today, I've been back three times. I like the simple quality to it, the inexpensive pricing and I love bread. Oh and they offer European drinks. There's this cola like drink called "Cockta", it's like cola and root beer. We fell in love with cevapi at another restaurant that used to be open in the Wheaton area, but closed down. We have been on the prowl for a replacement and lo and behold, we came across Bosna Grill on yelp and gave it a shot... The restaurant is easy to miss on some little strip mall next to some apartment residences. A small yellow sign with simple black writing hangs over the restaurant. Inside is hole-in-the-wall in a good sense....small, cozy, and very clean. First sign that I knew it would be legit is that on a Saturday afternoon, it was filled with Bosnian families....check! Ordered the cevapi and grabbed a table....food came shortly...HUGE portions. Husband and I ordered a cevapi each....$7 each...great deal! Comes with creamy homemade white cheese spread and some onions to eat with the bread. The Bosnian bread is definitely superior to other cevapi I have had...outside is crisp....inside is soft, fluffy, slightly chewy, and soaked with the yummy meat juices from the sausages. Lift up that top piece of bread and there is a waft of steaming deliciousness. Sausages are tender and nicely spiced...tasty! My husband and I both didn't finish our portions and packed it up to go. Bosna Grill gets back to basics. This is an authentic Bosnian grill. Naturally, I went with the Bosnian style chevapi. It was served on the most perfectly meat soaked and grilled lepinja bread that I've had in the US. Don't know how they do it, but it stays moist in the middle and gets crispy on the edges. It's a work of art. Contrary to popular belief, Bosnian food isn't just chevapi. You can also get sudzukice, pljeskavica (similar to a hamburger), stuffed pljeskavica, chicken, the four most popular types of burek/pita: cheese, meat, greens or potato, your choice of four different salads (I recommend the shopska) or the "diet" chevapi platter which has five sausages, French fries and vegetables. If you didn't know to look for this place you'll easily pass it up. The inside of the restaurant isn't much to look at either, but it is clean. That's all I care about. The decor may be humble and downplayed, but the food is not. And you probably won't even notice the bluish-pink walls and generic flower art with your face shoved into your meal. read more
