We have heard about this place and it was time to give it a go. Sunday afternoon,made the order online and it was ready when they told me it would be to pick up. We had kung pao chicken,the entree,good portion, comes with white rice. The sweet and sour chicken as a dinner combination,slightly smaller portion than some other places but still good (it's the fried version of sweet and sour,well deep fried,not greasy and lot of chicken inside)with chicken fried rice and an egg roll,which are medium big,really good,no greasy,well done. We also had the beef low mein,not a lot of beef but we ordered the small plate and I can say it's a good portion for a small one. My beef lo mein was DISGUSTING. I put it in my mouth and spit it out. It smelled rotten and tastes worse.... Worst I've ever had

Ordered through uber eats two combo plates among other things and was shorted 2 egg rolls with order. This restaurant recently changed to smaller containers that do not even hold a quart of food which is what they say on their menu as late as November 2021 for the large size. Also noticed, weighed the package with shrimp with lobster sauce combo dinner plate at 21.3oz and the package ways 1.4oz so you are getting 12.1oz short of a quart (32 oz) now AND they increased all their prices on the latest menu anywhere from 10% to 33% more for LESS food. Also, you get chicken fried rice now instead of pork and if you want pork you have to pay $1 more. In addition, I placed a $40+ takeout pickup order recently and paid the extra $1 on two combo plates for pork fried rice, and when I asked for sweet and sour sauce they had the audacity to ask me for another $1 for a thimble full of sweet and sour sauce. Ridiculous and cheap. Furthermore, they use imitation crab meat in the shrimp and lobster sauce, as if that is a surprise though. Lastly, my $40+ takeout pickup order qualified for a free wonton soup because it was over $35, and previously they always provided 8 wontons with a large wonton soup. They only gave me 6 wontons per soup to make up for the free soup! But hey I guess I did get 2 extra wontons and some broth! What a bargain! read more

Very glad we ordered from here tonight. They delivered to the house very quickly (limited delivery area) and the food was very fresh and tasty. We especially love the egg fried rice. Lots of it! Delicious Mandarin Chicken (came with white rice and the good, spicy mustard!) and veggie egg rolls as well. We will order again soon! read more

Put in my order online. I actually got here early to pick up. Price is ok. Flavor is amazing. But I just saw the girl who was ringing up my order use her bare hands on what looks to be chicken.....already cooked. Then she was cleaning off the counter up front by the register where they were prepping snap peas. The counter was sticky as was the chairs and table out front. Just discovered this hidden gem in Jefferson. They have lunch specials under $7 that come with Chicken fried rice and a drink which was nice, but it basically takes the place of the traditional egg-roll, so keep that in mind. I went out on a limb and got the triple delight which is basically a stir fry of Chinese veggies and a combination of chicken, steak, and shrimp. The lunch was a generous portion, so I can only imagine the dinner plate. The food was very good, we were actually pleasantly surprised. We also purchased the sweet and sour chicken with shrimp fried rice and got the sauce on the side. The sauce came in a pretty small container and was average, but it was enough for the chicken and the shrimp in the rice were huge, which I greatly appreciate that they didn't skimp on there ingredients. This place is nice and clean and has quality food for pretty good pricing. This is going to be our new place. read more

BEWARE!!(Where do I start!! I recommend that you don't step a foot in this restaurant!! The young teenager that work the register is a theft. I visited the restaurant on Friday, May 12, 2023 and he held my card for a long time. Gave me the receipt to sign and then my food. Never gave me my card back. This is one of the new places that I can genuinely say that I love their crab Rangoons and egg rolls. It's hard to impress me in this area but here at red apple, it's consistently good. The Rangoons have never made it to my house as I always eat them in the car. I love that you get 8 in the order for a fair price. My favorite dishes here are chicken and broccoli and general chicken. The staff is always so friendly. I love that I can order on beyond menu and just pick it up and it's already paid for. Food is always ready quickly and my order has always been correct. read more

Shrimp curry, crab rangoons, & wonton soup are some of my favorite things to order here for a quick night of tasty take out that will last me more than one meal. Large portions and good prices make this place a great take out choice in Harahan. Definitely call ahead if you're picking up because food is made to order, and while it doesn't take too long, it's not a fast food joint. I knocked one star because there aren't enough vegetables / meat in some of the noodle dishes. On more than one occassion I've opened the container to find that the noodle dish is basically only noodles (the noodles are always tasty though!). I do not always have this problem, but it's happened enough to deduct a star and make me stick with rice dishes. read more

One of the worst Chinese places we have been to. We will not be returning here. We were in the area and starving for lunch. I had recalled that this place had recently opened and suggested going there. The place is very small. It's mainly for take out. They have 2 tables for eating there. Upon walking in, it looked kind of dirty. The floors needed to be swept and there were cobwebs and a spider in the corner by the fire extinguisher. (They had only been open less than a month and already so dirty?) We placed our order (2 combo meals) with the young boy at the counter. He was friendly. We got our order in a fair amount of time and proceeded to eat some of it there at the table. It was not very good though. Just so-so. The crab rangoons were completely lousy. Unfortunately, the table where we sat was right next to their restroom. Bad placement for that! (A woman was already occupying the other table otherwise we would have sat there.) The owner or man in the kitchen that we had previously heard sneeze loudly back there came out to use the restroom. He was in there for over 10 minutes and did not wash his hands after. Disgusting!! We left shortly after and reluctantly took the food to go. Later when we attempted to eat the leftovers for dinner we found that it tasted even worse than earlier. We ended up throwing it out. NEVER AGAIN... *As a side note* The prices were higher here than the other nearby Chinese take outs we are used to. read more

I was happily surprised with this tiny, fast- Chinese-food take out place. They have always been polite and accommodating, always have gotten the order correct, and by now know me when I call. The menu looks identical to Hong Kong Kitchen up Dickory, a couple of miles, but I've never really liked the blandness of the dishes I had at HKK. The menu is the usual Americanized Chinese food, but it's better fast food than McDonalds. At Red Apple, I've had: Hot and Sour Soup Subgum Wonton Soup Szechuan Tofu Szechuan vegetables Vegetable Mei Fun Mushroom Egg Foo Young Mapo Tofu Sauteed Mixed Vegetable dinner combination plate (comes w fried rice & eggroll) Mussaman curry Green curry They will substitute brown rice for white if you ask. (Megan now remembers I like brown rice if I forget to ask, and even called me back to verify). I've ordered the hot and sour soup each time I've gone-- it's not the most gourmet, but it was very flavorful, wasn't over thickened like at other Chinese places in NOLA, and had a pleasant balance of hot and sour, and lots of ingredients ( bamboo shoots, tofu, water chestnut, mushrooms) which I enjoy. The Subgum Wonton soup ( Subgum are meat dumplings) was ok, but bland to me. In the plate dish the Subgum are fried. The soup had a lot of slices of pork and chicken in it as well as being packed with vegetables, in a standard broth and four large Subgum. I really like the Szechuan stir fry, which they will make with tofu or just all vegetables, if you don't want meat. It's slightly sweet, a bit hot, and they will adjust the heat as you request, and the vegetables seem fresh and still slightly crunchy, ( not over cooked). They don't make it with Szechuan peppercorns which have a unique piney, flavor and tongue numbing sensation, but this is still tasty, though not what a real Szechuan cook would use. (They're from Fujian Province, north of Hong Kong and across from Taiwan.) My other favorite is the Mei Fun which are very thin rice noodles, stir fried with your choice of meat(s), or tofu, and/or vegetables. I've tried two of the curry dishes, Mussaman and Green. None of the curries are listed on the printed menu. They're on the board inside. Both were good, but a little bland for my taste. After reading the other reviews, I checked out the cleanliness and it looked clean to me. It is small and there are 4 tables. I didn't know they deliver as another review mentioned, so that's a big plus for lazy evenings. This isn't a gourmet or "authentic" Chinese restaurant, but it's clean, gives good service, good prices, large quantities ( I always get several meals from one dish) and is flavorful and healthy enough for me to keep going back. read more

No complaints about the food. Standard dishes at a reasonable price. Ideal delivery Chinese food. The problem is that they rarely deliver. Once in a while you'll get lucky and they'll have a driver available but more often than not, when you call to place an order you find out delivery isn't available at that time. This has turned out to be the best Chinese food we can find in the Metairie/Harahan area. Surprisingly, they have wonderful Thai curry dishes as well. Love it and highly recommend it. Takeout only. read more
