I normally don't go for what some would call "sketch" restaurants but this place was really good. Hm. Don't know what I was expecting here. I ordered the General Tso chicken with crab Rangoons. Now, the crab Rangoons were fine. I mean, they were not mind blowing but I was satisfied. The General Tso chicken was okay. The sauce is extremely sweet (which I'm not the biggest fan of) but it was spiced nicely. A lot of Chinese places I've eaten from make this big disclaimer about their General Tso chicken having a kick to it. Theirs SORT of hit the mark. Also glad they don't use that breading that makes the chicken look like large ginger root. Yuck. There is some breading on the chicken though. Okay, so now we are down one star based on the above... The RIIIIIIIIIICE is why they're down two more. I hate to be harsh but it tasted like burned Uncle Ben's 5-minute vegetable rice. I typically love Chinese (and other Asian rice dishes) but that was a disservice. I really feel like the rice was either scorched or severely over cooked. It was not pleasant at all. Probably the worst Chinese food I've ever eaten. If the smell doesn't get to you, the taste will. I have no idea how there's so many people on here that like to and continue ordering from this place. I ordered through UberEats, should I have driven there and walking inside, guaranteed, the smell would've turned me around so quick. Everything taste the same (burnt, but also raw??). The egg rolls only have cabbage inside. The "house" rice has burnt pork that has the texture of beef jerky. The chicken, raw. Disgusting buffet quality food. They can't even make things spicy that are supposed to be upon request. The have Hot and Sour chicken listed as spicy which is never the case. They just make things up it seems. Restaurant in Harahan is the same. Poor quality food at a jacked up price. Food may be good one day and not the next. ZERO consistency. Overall the quality of the food was great. The Szechuan Shrimp was wonderful, I was a huge fan of the vegetables that came with the shrimp. The sauce had a hint of heat but wasn't extremely spicy. It comes with pork fried rice but I upgraded to shrimp fried rice for $1 upcharge. I wasn't a fan of the fried rice at all, it seemed dry and lacking enough soy sauce. It wasn't terrible but I've had much better fried rice before. The Egg Drop Soup however was full of flavor, not the best I've had but it's definitely up there! On May 31, I ordered General Tso's Chicken Combination (C-21) which I had ordered several times before. I ordered for delivery with DoorDash which essentially doubled the price for the meal. This time I used the Special Instructions section and asked for white meat chicken. I later received an e-mail from DoorDash informing me that $3.55 had been added because of Special Instructions. It's weird to be writing a 4 star review for a cookie cutter Chinese joint....and yet here we go. Red Apple isn't full of surprises for the most part. It has essentially the same menu and same decor as any other generic Chinese place. That said, the portion are huge, the food is great, and it's cheap. Here's my (fairly arbitrary) way to judge a Chinese take out place-whether they serve dark meat or white meat as the default. I'm happy to report that white meat is the standard without an extra fee! They also serve brown rice upon request, although there is a fee there. They have a nice website as well. You can browse their large menu from there. They don't deliver, but you can place an order online (and include notes if needed) and pick it up. I got there about 15 minutes after I placed it (chicken lo mein and steamed vegetables) and I got my order upon arrival after a friendly greeting. My food was 15 dollars with tip. I can stretch it to two meals, if not three. Skip the terrible Subway next door and go here. I know that's two different genres entirely but anything to defame Subway. They accept credit cards, but there is a 10 dollar minimum. read more

Got the chicken & veggies dinner combo and an egg-drop-wonton soup. I was impressed by this place. This place has fast & friendly service. There is a fine display of Asian and South American currency. It was very interesting to see a 10 peso "paper" currency. The chicken was excellent as were the accurately cooked veggies. The fried rice was enjoyable. The soup was novel and really good. The only thing I wasn't a big fan of was the "cabbage" a.k.a. egg roll. But that is just my opinion. I order green bananas (tostones) with chicken wings from this place and I was missing 2 wings. The customer service in this place is horrible. We stumbled across this place after a whole day of moving into our new house and I was having the envie some wonton soup. I always say you can judge a Chinese restaurant by their egg rolls alone, so we decided to give it a try. Very impressed with all of the menu items as we have ordered several times. The egg rolls are delicious, the wonton soup is by far my favorite than any other place I've had it and they have my favorite chicken dish, mandarin chicken. This is our GO TO Chinese place in the neighborhood for those help-me-jesus-it's-too-hot-to-cook-nights. The shrimp egg rolls are phenomenal - we always get a bag, and then I realize we should have gotten extras and frozen them. (I have yet to do that because then all I'll eat are eggrolls). I'd LOVE if their shrimp toast wasn't full of minced pork (if it was just shrimp, like at 5 Happiness) but that seems to be a standard money-saving move for the fast food Chinese places around town. Oh well, I'll save my shrimp toast budget for 5 Happiness. The eggs foo young is crispy and greasy and full of whatever you want in it. I get a different sauce with mine because I don't like the flour gravy that comes with it, and they've never missed that customization. Sometimes I get the diet shrimp plate thats a super clean, oil free shrimp and veggie plate with sauce on the side, and the shrimp in that are huge and sweet. My husband gets Singapore street noodles, or moo shu and is always tickled. He also loves the crab rangoon. Again, it's a fast-food, super casual place, and I wouldn't eat in, but for picking up dinner on a night when you just can't bring yourself to turn on the stove, or when you have a ton of guests over (why I'm marking "good for groups"), or when you're on your way home from a parade and it's late and everything else is closed, Red Apple will save your life! read more

They mostly do take-outs, as with most Chinese places. They have pictures of their food posted along their kitchen wall for better visual senses. And they have poker machines! lol I ordered the veggie soup and a hot and sour soup. The veggie soup was good and filling. Loads of veggies! They "forgot" to include the egg roll they'll give and the fried rice was COLD, never hot to begin with. Ordered take-out yesterday. Ordered on-line. Had to wait 10 minutes later than promised. The sweet and sour ribs tasted good, but there was bone and cartilage. It's served with white rice, but you can't eat it together because you have to keep spitting the bone and cartilage out. Why aren't the ribs boneless? The low mein was okay. My granddaughter liked her fried fish and French fries. The girl behind the counter looked like she would rather be anywhere but where she was. I work down the street so I figured I give it a shot. I'm very, very picky with my kung pao chicken and honestly, you can't find a good one anywhere these days. People hate eating with me as well as I'm pretty damn picky in general. With that said, I was very satisfied with their kung pao chicken. I ordered it extra spicy and it hit the spot.
