So, get in the right hand lane and be ready to turn into the parking lot, as it comes up pretty quickly. And there is plenty of parking. This is one of the coziest and spacious Red Barn locations. It is a perfect place to meet someone for coffee and pastry. They have plenty of 2 and 4 top tables and there is usually a table open. The decor is rustic barn. They have a nice selection of muffins and warm breakfast sandwiches to go with your coffee. They also have some items for sale to take with you, including their locally (Upton) roasted coffee beans. The baristas have always been smiley and friendly. If you need space for a larger gathering, ask them about their upstairs space. I popped into this coffee shop because I had some time to kill, and I much prefer supporting small coffee shops instead of the huge coffee chains. The red barn is really cute and charming and the inside is rustic and cozy. There's a nice selection of coffees to pick from, and they have 4 seasonal flavors for the holidays (Peppermint Patty, Vanilla Cinnamon Spice, and 2 others that I can't remember). They have a nice variety of sandwiches (cold and hot, pressed paninis), salads, and a few soups. The sandwiches are made to order - I got the oven baked chicken sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and chipotle sauce on multigrain bread and it was delicious. The multigrain bread was fluffy and very flavorful - I'd definitely recommend it for sandwiches. I was able to talk to Lisa, the owner, for 10-15 minutes and she's super nice and cares a lot about her business, employees, and her community (with fundraising programs). I'm looking forward to coming back here as I love supporting small businesses. I really enjoyed my coffee, sandwich, and the ambiance and neighborhood feel of the place. I would have rather gone to Dunkin. This iced coffee tasted like old hot coffee put into a iced coffee container. The French vanilla had a ton of acidity and just plain poor quality. We had high hopes of stopping on our way home from an overnight to try something more local and not just a chain. We totally regretted that. read more

Stopped by in the morning before work, they had quick service and there wasn't a long line. This location is slighly larger than the location on the other side of Route 9. I noticed quite a few people sitting at the tables drinking their coffee or enjoying a sandwich, giving it a friendly and cozy feel. And the employees were very pleasant as well. They had delicious looking sandwiches and paninis, but I wasn't going to try one at 9 in the morning, I'll definitely be back at lunch time to get one. Plenty of pastries as well. Review based on experience pre-COVID. The space is lovely. I work nearby have come here to get away from the office for some quiet time. Super cute. The baked goods are decent (but not great). However... I've tried pretty much everything on the lunch menu, and it ranges from "meh" to outright awful. I suggest skipping the lunch options and stick with bakery items only. I can't comment on the coffee, I'm not enough of a coffee drinker to say if it's bad or good. Bottom line: 2 stars for cozy atmosphere and decent bakery, minus three stars for bad food read more

This Red Barn location on the eastbound side of Route 9 (don't be fooled by the Yelp location marker) is quite nice. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the I have found all the food options I've had to be tasty. A vegetarian friend also likes their selection. The coffee is solid and they have a bunch of the typical espresso drink options. My only complaint is the hours. I wish they were open past 4 on weekdays (kitchen closes at 2) and open at all on the weekends. **Website and Yelp say 7-1 on Saturday, but I went there today (a Saturday) and there is a sign explicitly stating they were closed Saturdays. I get that most of their business is probably from nearby Bose and Genzyme campuses, but Route 9 is never deserted, so I'm a little perplexed. read more

I love small town coffee shops almost as much as I love supporting small businesses. Red barn coffee has numerous locations, including one that just opened near my office in Boston. Out of all the locations, this one is my favorite. They have a full lunch menu from panini's to light salads, and also have a traditional selection of pastries. The atmosphere is great here, with plenty of space to work, including a nice outdoors space for sunny days. I especially enjoy the baristas who learn your order after a few trips...believe it or not this adds or takes away a lot for me, from a coffee shop. It also comes in handy at 7am when I am trying to get in and out of the cafe in a few minutes. On days where I work from home, this is a great spot to grab a break at. It's only a few minutes from my house which makes it timely as well. Today I went in for an afternoon coffee and was pleasantly greeted by their newest addition- nitrogen infused coffee. The one thing I always miss about the city is the nitro cold brew, but now Red Barn even has that! read more

I recently discovered this establishment and was excited to try their Breakfast Panini. Boy, was I disappointed. For $3.75 I got half (1/2) of a Breakfast Panini on 2 thin slices of bread with a thin egg patty and a piece of thin bacon sandwiched in between. I was totally underwhelmed and felt ripped off. Other reviewers have expressed similar concerns about this sandwich. I was so disappointed by the Breakfast Panini that I asked the woman behind the counter if they had a management feedback form. She said that they did not. I gave her my feedback about their Breakfast Panini. She began to argue with me, comparing the Breakfast Panini with the $7.00 Panini that I could get during lunch. Instead of debating with me, an apology or offer to refund my money would have gone a long way. Based on this experience, I'm not going back to this establishment. read more

The space that this coffee shop is in is the biggest strength. It all goes downhill from there. Ordered a "breakfast panini" and received half a sandwich with a frozen disk of processed egg, and some thin and flabby bacon. When I pointed out that the egg was not heated through they offered to put the sandwich (that had a bite taken out of it) into the microwave. If that is considered a reasonable solution I'll just make this sandwich at home and save the 4 bucks. The coffee was also just not good. Red Barn has such potential that it simply doesn't live up to in any way. The atmosphere is cute and there is plenty of seating as well as outlets to plug in if you're working...but beware that you will get the hairy eyeball from rude staff if you overstay your welcome. The food is mediocre at best - uncreative and flavorless paninis, sad excuses for salads and high prices for the quality and serving side. The fact that this is one of the only games in town is likely it's reason for being open. The coffee is weak and although I love supporting local roasters I'd rather drive out of my way to buy others than brew Red Barn at home. The reason for 2 stars is the sweets which are relatively good and look pretty in the case, and my kids like the seasonal declared cookies. Otherwise all I can say for Red Barn is that it would be awesome if they had a major overhaul because the location is great and a quality coffee/lunch spot would be welcomed! read more

Red Barn has 2 locations in Southborough. Interestingly, I've found that this location (eastbound on Route 9, next to the driving range) is much better than the westbound Route 9 location. The coffee here is better, the sandwiches are better (fresher ingredients), the staff is friendlier, and there's a nice indoor seating area with lots of tables, unlike westbound, which has a very small indoor seating space. In nice weather, you could even go outside and have a picnic on the grass. Maybe this site gets more customers, and therefore turns over the food/drink more quickly?
