Came here to see if they had Jamaica which they did. All the shops I have seen sell small bags for $2.99 but they had a bulk bin. I also noticed they sold some Costco items on their shelves like I saw a Kirkland honey container. I also picked up a sweet bread ( I love the pig shaped ones the best). I didn't get a chance to check out their meat cuts but the meat counter had a little bit of a line. Overall, nice market to get just about anything. read more

Great full featured Mexican market. The carneceria was killer. Everything you need to have a complete meal. Friendly helpful staff as well.

While visiting Ventura recently we needed some provisions. We were staying at Waypoint Ventura. With a little help from Yelp we found ourselves at Red Barn Market. As we parked and got out we were knocked down by super amazing smells coming from the outdoor grill! Inside we discovered yummy salsa, produce, meats and a variety of grocery items. The staff was friendly. We ended up buying tri-tip and chicken that had been cooked on the grill out front. Absolutely delicious. We decided to pair it with a salsa-off (including two choices we picked up from RBM). The Machacada from RBM was the winner to me. read more

Unfortunately this is a store I can no longer visit. The staff needs to be retrained not to be prejudice or rude. The recent stew meat I purchased was old and the color was almost black. When I questioned its color, I was told it was because it was exposed to the air. That sealed up my decision I left and threw it away. I can no longer be a patron who isn't wanted. My mom wanted to stop by to buy some groceries and I got off to use the restroom. Upon looking around we asked a guy where the bathrooms were he said they had some in the back but to ask the cashier. I asked her and she said no public restrooms allowed. I said we are paying customers. She said no bathrooms allowed and I advised her that we were told to ask her for permission and she was firm on her answer but by the way the whole situation played out you can just tell they let certain customers in and others no. If the whole store was like "no not for customers" okay i would get it. But given the situation I straight up knew they let SOME people in but if you don't know them personally or anything you will get rejected. So before shopping here use your bathroom and don't come hydrated. read more

Great little kitchen inside this market. Place to buy meat, beans and rice all prepared. Combos with Carnitas is a great deal and comes w tortillas and salsa. Makes a fine lunch for two. Paco makes the best food in the service deli !!! My wife and I love to spoil ourselves regularly with his amazing BBQ tri-tip, Seafood Soup, HUGE Burritos, Beef Jerky to name just a few! Tonight I had Paco's Shrimp Stew for the first time and it was so good I had to write this review... It was the best I have ever had! Went here on Christmas Eve to order tamales. We wanted 2 dozen and spoke to a man in the tamales area. He explained they were out, but that we could come back the next day to pick them up. Perfect. I asked, "Do you need a name? Do we need a paper? Do we pay?" He said nope, we were good to go. The next day, Christmas Day, we return to pick up our Christmas dinner and of course, there are no tamales, they are completely out, they have no record of our order. We run into the same guy who does apologize after remembering us, and offers to make some more tamales if we return in 2 hours... no thanks... we ended up having to visit multiple local restaurants to get enough for our family on Christmas... such a bad experience and lack of competence makes me never want to return unfortunately... read more

Inside the Red Barn is a fantastic little place that makes some delicious chile verde burritos. For more than a decade my family and I have enjoyed these tasty wrapped gems...with the special "mixta" salsa. Fresh, flavorful and packed full of pork and verdant green chile. They're quite large too...I can usually turn one burrito into two meals. Easy to find, good service...and convenient if you need a few grocery items too. These little community markets usually have terrific prices and this place is no different. If time is limited, plan to arrive before or after the lunch rush because lunch time is quite busy. read more

I went in today with my husband trying to buy some 2liters of Coca Cola, they had a huge display with Coca Cola and another soda and the sign said $1.99 each. Went to pay and the women was very rude and said no it's $2.99 and I showed her the sign and apparently an employee had stocked the wrong drink it was supposed be Pepsi not Coca Cola and so I asked if she would honor the price like most stores do when this happens and she refused. I've been here plenty of times and every time was horrible, the workers in the carniceria were extremely rude and even prejudice towards me, they thought I was some white boy and once when I was ordering some pollo fajitas the worker said "you probably won't like it cause it's too spicy." The produce was very cheap which is a plus but the produce was terrible and there were flies all over them. The cashiers make me feel uncomfortable because they would be laughing and when I would get in line they would get all serious and give each other dirty looks like as if they're unhappy to see me. I have shopped here several times and it's a fantastic local market. They have some of the best prices in town for produce and meat especially. I love to come here for my staples like potatoes, onions, tomatoes and peppers. Great prices on chicken breast and flank steaks too, you have to check the weekly ads to see what's for sale but there is always something worth stopping in for. The quality is great too, everything is fresh and the store is clean and organized. The service is fast and friendly, its a smaller store so you don't get overwhelmed like at a lot of big box grocery stores. Parking is ample and easy. What else is there to say? I almost hate to write this review. It might make this tiny market more crowded! Red Barn Market is the best kept secret in Ventura. Their produce is GREAT!. Not only is there a super selection but the prices are much less then the regular supermarkets. True, you can hardly maneuver a cart through the store, but it's still worth it for the sweetest watermelons, best Roma tomatoes, zucchini, green onions and cilantro. Last week I got 10 lbs of potatoes for .......are you ready for this? $.99!!!! 10 POUNDS! (I can't ever eat 10 pounds of potatoes so had to share some with my sister). Their meat/fish counter is also clean and very well presented and the ceviche is perfect! The check out girls are friendly and they have the strongest plastic bags (yes I take my own bags in, but occasionally you have to carry a watermelon out!) Please don't shop here. This market is special simply because, compared to Vons, it sells cow tongue...along with a huge variety of other meats. There are always sales on meat, and most of the vegetables are local. While they are not kept cool or misted, they are just as fresh and tasty for being non-organic. Everything else that they have is more or less similar to Vons prices. However, other than meats and vegetables, they sell delicious fruits for inexpensive prices. It almost makes you wonder why they are so inexpensive. At one point, I bought 4 mangos for a dollar. An upside is...they sell large packs of Argentinian Yerba Mate for inexpensive prices as well. However, the downside is...I found out they sold me an expired pack, and they wouldn't give me back my money. The guys behind the meat counter are sweet and helpful. Red barn on the Avenue in ventura is the place for fresh meat, produce and on Saturdays and Sundays the BBQ is killer with, chicken, pork , beef and other goodies. The shrimp there is Ecuadorian ,sweet and plump. Straight off the boat, quick frozen. None of the crap the big stores use to keep them fresh,,, chemicals. If you need a special order, see Paco. Got 22 lbs of Mexican blue crab last weekend. Gotta tell ya ventura foodies, it was killer. Little skeptical on frozen crab, but thawed out it looked and smelled like just caught, and I grew up near the Chesapeake bay, know good crabs. These babies were much larger than the east coast stuff. Awesome selection, killer meat, fish, a great to go counter, and welcoming helpful staff . Do yourself a favor, shop there. Love this market! It's close to my house and the produce is always fresh and reasonably priced. I love their meat selections too. We moved to the avenue about 1 yr ago. I saw this store on our bike rides but it was closed. Finally we got to go in after remodel. The produce is Awesome. Hot food WOW A leg quarter piece of chicken Cooked on Outdoor grill rice and beans and tortillas for $2.50 . Cannot beat that. The only negative is the cashier was not very friendly. read more

Not only did I find a fantastic selection of super fresh and reasonably priced produce, but the deli had amazing, vegetarian refried beans, and delicious salsa. I come here at least 2 times a week just for the fish ceviche. It's one of the best ceviche in town. The fish isn't ground up like in other supermarkets, this one is diced into small cubes and tastes great. They make the ceviche daily and they package it in a 1lb container. They also have great burritos and and good food ready to eat like carnitas, whole rostisire chicken, potato wedges, and much more. It's so tempting just walking by there and seeing all the food. I'm an honorary mexican (because of my amazing ability to make mexican food) and the meat and produce here is the best in Ventura. How can I say that? Well simply because the meat and produce is not only fresh but the prices can not be beat. I can buy an entire weeks worth of meat and produce for my meals for the family (4 of us) and get out of there for under $30 EVERY TIME! I still have to go to other stores like costco or Albertsons to get some other things, but I would put the meat at Red Barn up against Costco any day, they will flat out win on price alone. read more

Checked this spot out for the first time today on a hunt for chamoy powder. I did not find any but I did find a clean, well stocked little grocery store with some AMAZINGLY FRESH produce and even some hard to find fruits like mamey. Good selection of specialty items and looks like a nifty little food bar in the back. Definately check this place out for good prices and fresh produce. This store is amazing!! A wonderful place for meat, deli, delicious prepared meals, fresh produce--all at really reasonable prices. The best aspect of this little gem is the people who work there. They are polite, helpful, and treat you like a member of the family. I specifically want to spotlight Paco. He runs the barbecue several days a week, as well as the back meat/deli section. He is so warm, kind and accommodating. He never fails to have a friendly greeting and a smile on his face.
