Stopped by the store at the end of the day....large gathering of people outside the store. There was security but they appeared to be drug users and homeless. The store didn't have any of the quality of food and selection as expected of Vons. The tomatoes had been spoiled for days. The only produce that appeared fresh were the bananas. The store is in need of a remodel and more staff that are keeping the product stocked. The employees should have a dress code and should appear clean as well. No excuse for that.....I am hopeful that the city is supportive of its residents whether they are homeless or not. Very disappointed in Vons. read more

He went above and beyond to re-check one of my item that was rang up in error, which was not adjusted at the register, and fixed it immediately. People is the area call this the scary Vons. The vagrants in the area loiter in front of it and in its isles, seem to steal often. You often get asked for cash entering and leaving the store by them. The staff her is friendly. read more

I shopped at this Vons regularly as it is just down the street from my home. I like the employees for the most part, especially Lupe, she always has a smile and welcomes me. However. I went in there last Wednesday, Christmas Eve. I bought fresh pasta, raviolis that are packaged and in an ender. I got home and made half the package, when I went to put the rest of the package away, I realized that the raviolis on the bottom had black dots the size of dimes. I hadn't noticed that when I poured them into the boiling water to cook them. But began to realize they tasted funny after I ate about six of the raviolis, which were spinach and ricotta filled raviolis. I have been sick for three days now because of this . Very disappointed when I looked at the date on fresh pasta, it was the last date to sell. And clearly there is no quality control, as a week prior I had purchased a muscle milk, off the shelf, and it was the consistency of sour cream in the bottle. I took one look at the inside and just threw it away. I had hoped that was a one off. But now I have food poisoning it ruined my Christmas. Please have quality assurance personnel doing checks of all of your fresh produce and fresh refrigerated items more regularly so you don't make your customer so sick that they miss out on Christmas and any other day of the year. read more

This is my local grocery market, and it's such a mess. My biggest beef is the empty shelves just about every morning. I've included some pics, taken between 8:30-9am today. No fresh bread. No roasted chicken. The list goes on. And why are they still in business? There's no where else to go. Whole Foods is in Oxnard, and there are 3 or so other Vons' between us and them, so there's a lack of competition. We have to fight consolidation and mergers of corporations that result in this type of poor service. Vons has nothing to loose if there's no where else (nearby) for us to shop. Vons: please step up and have your store fully stocked in the morning. Your community will appreciate it. read more

Employees are always nice, but the area is swarming with homeless and the higher up management removed the security camera trailer by Live View Technologies from the parking lot. Adding new automated barrier things that beep a shrill tone loudly if you even look at them the wrong way isnt going to solve the problem. The management needs to bring back the LVT trailer and have security that patrols the area after BFG officers leave, once BFG leaves the area for the night, its a bonanza of weirdness in the entire mission plaza. read more

As a customer for over 10 yrs. at this store and written letters to corporate, spoken to Mgrs., Asst. Mgrs., and Heads of Depts during these years as a patron I have run out of employees to bring these concerns to. The bread, bagels and rolls get baked each day, and each and everyday, they sit out on racks behind the bakery counter until you can find an employee to help you get the cooled baked goods you once desired that were warm. The Deli Counter has been a major problem where you can some days spend a minimum of 10-15 mins. waiting to be helped and if you happen to be lucky they MAY have what you are looking to purchase. They once had a cash register between the Deli Counter and the Sandwich Counter if you needed to make a quick purchase that was of no use to anyone because the employees were never cross-trained to operate it is what I was told so they eventually removed it. If they have a sale on any given week you are a very lucky person if the product you desire to purchase is on the shelf during the sale days they advertise it for. Watch what you purchase in any refrigerated section because the dates can often be expired therefore food poisoning can be frequent if you are not careful to look closely at the dates. I have personally observed carts full of perishable food (ie. Cream cheese, yogurts etc) sitting in the aisles where these items belong without anyone putting them in the cases for lengths at a time. On three separate occasions I was ill after purchasing cream cheese and yogurt which definitely re-confirms that the items that were observed unattended to at lengths of time definitely go sour. Watch out for packaged meats that have turned brownish - they aren't too hard to miss because they have a bright Orange sticker on the packages which is usually to lure shoppers to buy them because they have been marked down for sale. As stated in the beginning of this review after making numerous complaints to many different levels of employees with no improvement, I have been forced unfortunately to write this stellar review as well as finally resigning from continuing to shop at this location any longer. read more

It's amazing how I can Drive 5 min away to the next Closest Vons and Always get a good Cart , the produce is fresher, the Deli can actually make a Sandwich without giving You Food Poisoning because all the refrigeration systems are Complete garbage .however The Staff is COMPLETELY AMAZING!! Pretty much always panhandlers out front. I thought it would be different this time but the friendly looking lady and her dog asked me for spare change as I walked in. Every. Time. Sometimes I worry about being a single woman walking in here if it's dark. Store itself is clean, well lit and well stocked inside. Products are pretty typical for a So Cal grocery store. Good fresh produce. I found the hair-care product I was looking for and some hot dog buns (bakery section in this store is on the smaller side). Staff was polite and professional though when I was here the lines weren't moving very fast (probably not the fault of the staff to be honest). Do not use the Vons app for any kind of delivery service or pick up. Complete waste of time. I placed an order through app and it was scheduled to be delivered on Sunday 10-06 between 6pm-8pm Groceries never arrived. Called customer service the next day and they informed that I had to reorder items but they had a hold on my credit card for $126. On Monday I reordered items and it was scheduled to be delivered today Monday 12-07 I just received a text that my order has been canceled and yet there's another hold on my credit card I'm never shopping with them again read more

Every time I'm in this location there are a minimum of 2 dogs that are obviously not service dogs. Today I walked it and this idiot in front of me has a 9lb dog that could never preform any service of any kind to this 6'1 well over 200lb man. When he saw me staring at his dog which also was wearing a sweater another dead give away it's not a service animal at all, he asked me what I was looking at and I responded with I'm wondering why you brought a dog in here. He responded with a fit that ended with let's take it out side. At no point did a manager handle the issue and this is not the first time I've witnessed a big issue with an over entitled dog owner throwing a fit or I actually witnessed a dog fight in the middle of a busy Sunday because multiple people were allowed to just bring in random mutts they called service dogs be were obviously not service dogs because an actual service animal is trained to not interact with others at all. Please care just a little, a grocery store is a walk in kitchen/refrigerator. 100% your employees must carry food handlers cards and I know for sure a dog in a kitchen/refrigerator is not acceptable. I moved recently right into the heart of what my mom calls 'the village' (shout out as she is invading my space next week for her annual visit) and am in the process of getting to know my new neighborhood. This Vons is the closest grocery and three weeks into my exploration I've already got a love/hate relationship with this place forevermore known as "Scary Vons" I like the idea of realizing I'm out of something and being able to walk over and buy the item. I hate it if the realization comes after dark and I don't feel safe to make the short journey on my own. Realizing I'm the only person that can make me feel inferior I compromise and go buy whatever I need after dark by driving...which is ridiculous but I'm also the only one to ensure my safety so let's be smart! I've been in this place during the day and at night and have better luck shopping earlier in the day. The less fortunate beings in society don't seem to be awake and pan handling for cash and very few people are actually shopping for anything. Go at night and I guarantee you will wait 20 minutes to check out because there is only ever two registers open and both of those registers are operated by human beings directly descended from the sloth family. I like this store for filling in whatever I'm out of but it's still the highest priced grocery chain in Ventura...shop wisely fellow Yelpers! read more

Visiting and staying at a hotel close by and had to run to the store to grab a few things for our son. I was harassed a few times by a person, who seemed out of it and high, asking me to purchase a torch or lighter. I kindly declined but he kept coming back. I felt so uneasy and slightly terrified that I didn't end up grabbing everything I needed just so I can hurry and get the heck out of there. I had mentioned it to the store manager and clerk ath checkout who in return stated that I shouldn't feel unsafe. The clerk had escorted me to my car and made sure I got in safely. Sandwich Counter/Deli Waited 10 minutes of one of 5 visible employees to acknowledge me. The lady that eventually came over had less knowledge of the menu than I got from my 10 minute read. She didn't understand what bread they had listed with which sandwich, insisting on white bread rolls. Her coworkers ignored all of this. She then went to the back, came back with a bowl of chicken wings, and insisted they had no chicken for sandwiches - while standing behind the deli case full of meat including chicken. Twilight zone. This place has had a nice remodel within the last couple years and it looks nice inside. I like that they didn't change where stuff is though, that would have thrown me off. The produce section here is always great, as is the meat department. The shelves can be a little bare depending on the day of the week you shop. I do like that there is a Wells Fargo bank inside, but since the remodel they put this turn-style type thing to get in the door and if you try to exit without going through a check out lane (such as someone just trying to use an ATM) there isn't an easy way to leave the store without squeezing through a lane. I know it's there to prevent people from doing a 'beer run' but it sure is a pain. Speaking of the check out lanes, there never seem to be enough open. It's not a huge wait, but it always seems that having just one more open lane would be a huge benefit. I can't finish this review without a proper warning about the bums that hang out in this parking lot. BEWARE, they can get pretty aggressive. Vons used to have a security guard that would walk around the outside, but now they stay inside keeping a watchful eye on the beer to keep it safe. LAME. read more

This place is horrific. Yes, it's the AVENUE, But still...we were camping at the beach and needed to grab a few things, so here's what went down: -I went to get face wash and was looking at the toiletries when a fantastic older man with a balding, long haired mullet (including an unbuttoned collared shirt) asked me where the cologne was...ummmm? Yeah... -My husband had to use the restroom which had a code to get in. -This is where all the good stuff happened-we got on line to pay and an older lady, who was an employee of Vons was behind us in line. She dropped one of her items and told us she had to put her stuff down. My husband picked up her item she had dropped and not only did she not say thank you, she proceeded to put her stuff down and cut right in front of us! Thank goodness we were distracted by the idiots in front of her who were trying to cash in their glass bottles and plastic bags. -100 years later we finally checked out and an elderly lady was right in front of our car in the parking lot panhandling. We also saw an apple that was being used as a bong. -One star is for the fact that they had all the items we needed and the friendly cashier who helped us. Absolutely horrible experience today in the self check out and the clerk presiding over it...Amber was a nasty little witch. I put my stuff down and apparently it was on the wrong side and the computer told me so. So I stated., "where the hell side am I supposed to start on? The rude clerk said it's the same side all the time and you should know that. I said what are you talking about? She said I see you in here all the time and you always get mad at the self check out. Better known as 'Scary Vons' (as I'm told).. it really lives up to its name. Main reason being is there are a LOT of homeless and sketchy looking people around the general vicinity and often inside the store. One time, I swear I thought I heard a lady sniffing drugs in the bathroom. (Bathrooms have a code, FYI) I always visit this store when I'm camping in Ventura, mainly because it's a really convenient location. I really do like how when you first walk in, you first see the beautiful flower selection. Vons is expensive, but I can always find what I need. Meat is always priced high, but that's the same at any Vons. I can honestly say that every time I've come here, the cashiers are really nice and friendly. This is the main reason I gave 2 stars. I have rarely run into super long lines like other reviews have said, and I'm usually there on weekends. Do try the Vons guacamole and bean dip (they make it in-store), also the deli is quite good. They have a good selection of cheeses and bakery items. I also like to get wings or party trays for our family. Love that there's a Starbucks here as well. read more

CSU Channel Islands used to be a mental institution, and when they released the patients, I believe they came to stand outside of this Vons. Pros: *It's clean *Located in the same shopping center are Taco Bell, Radio Shack, a Donut Shop, and CVS. *The employees are always friendly If you're in search of vegetables, don't forget about the Farmer's market on Saturday's--only a few blocks away. My girlfriend and I refer to this place as "Jerry Springer Vons" because it seems like the people that "hang around" out front and half of the customers seem like they belong on that show. The selection is alright, but the prices seem high, especially on produce and you can absolutely forget about buying anything organic, it would actually most likely be cheaper to spend the cash on gas and drive to Whole Foods in Oxnard than to buy the very few organic things here. This market was easy to find coming from one of the many state beaches north of Ventura. As soon as I walked in, there is a Starbucks counter for a quick Dopio shot or anything else you like. I had no problems finding all the snacks, chips sandwich foods items and condiments. The produce seemed fresh, at least for the items I picked up. They have a good selection of beer, wines and liquor to replenish your cooler on those hot summer weekends at the beach. Friendly cashiers and staff with plenty of parking. Super friendly and incredible staff. Seriously. I had to wonder whether we were in California because I'm unaccustomed to that much cheery helpfulness. The store was stocked up with just about everything we needed (including a certain someone's emergency Starbucks drink). We saved tons because we were with a Vons Club Card holder. If you don't have a card, find someone with one and shop with them. We only had one semi-strange incident in our many visits here.
