I didn't even attempt to eat it after the first few bites. This place wasn't for me. The service over the phone was decent. I kept having to repeat what I wanted because it would be wrong when the host repeated it. My husband's orders in the past have also been wrong. I didn't even waste my time taking pictures. Yes, I understand Red Bowl is a chain. So why should it receive a 5-star review? The service and the food are why. We've eaten at many different Red Bowl locations throughout different states, but this experience was so good it brought back memories of a different Red Bowl and we did some happy reminiscing. We were seated promptly after entering and soon met our server, Gary. His friendly personality was apparent from the start, and the service was amazing. We enjoyed the lettuce wraps with chicken that were so much better than those found at the place with the giant horse out front. The littles shared the chicken lo mein and had enough to take home. The inside of the restaurant is typical to what you find at other Red Bowl restaurants. It is a mixture of booth and table seating. The bathroom is to the right of the host stand as you enter the restaurant. They can get packed on the weekends due to the proximity to Elon and many thriving communities, so plan accordingly. My family and I ordered takeout through the Red Bowl's website to be ready in 30 minutes. It was ready on time when we picked it up. I got Combo A of the sushi & sashimi combos. It came with a California roll, eel roll, and spicy tuna roll. I also had my choice of a miso soup or ginger salad. Everything tasted really fresh. The rolls were definitely enough for a second meal. We went here and had a great meal. They don't have a large gluten-free menu, but I was excited to see that there were several options. Also, lots of their sushi is gluten-free and they had gluten-free soy sauce. This is a chain, but it was clean, well run, and the staff were great. I would definitely come back here. We decided to dine at Red Bowl at the last minute. It has been about a year since we last dined at this location. That visit was pretty mediocre and this one proved to be the same. Our waitress was friendly & attentive however, the food was meh. I had shrimp fried rice, & a mai tai and shared a tsunami roll. The shrimp fried rice was extremely bland & still so after I added soy sauce & duck sauce (which I've never had to do in the past). Per my husband, his Pad Thai was also not as flavorful as it once was. The Mai tai was pretty but weak & the tsunami roll lacked the advertised seafood. If was a pretty disappointing experience considering Red Bowl (pre-pandemic) was at the top of my list (and others too apparently, as there was always a wait). This place is a step UP from all the other Asian spots I had eaten at before. It was overall a great experience. The place was visually appealing, with a nice red theme with a pretty glass waterfall right at the entrance. And the service was very quick! I ordered the Philly Crab Claw and I didn't know what to expect. But the creamy bite with a delicious crab flavor hooked me right in. Absolutely peak. The Lo Mein was really good too! When my husband and I are in an unfamiliar city a couple of times a year, we usually find one good spot and stick to it when it comes to a meal in that area. Red Bowl is that meal in Burlington for us. It's not very often that we get to visit, but when we do, it's so good!! We usually always start with the crab rangoons and this time decided to go with an order of bang bang shrimp and an egg roll as well. All were solid appetizer options. Tasty and just enough! We are also gluttonous so we also usually get a bowl of egg drop soup and sweet and sour soup to share. The wonton crisps are our favorite accompaniment and they give you a huge bowl. We ended our meal with a couple of their fried rolls.. no need to give specifics because literally every single one is fantastic. You can't go wrong! Not for me.. I will get straight to the point. Co worker wanted to try this and I know it wasn't going to be for me. The beef chow fun grabbed my attention so I figured why not? It was beyond horrible. Thin rice noodles were used instead of flat noodles, a super salty stir fry brown sauce and all the wrong veggies. It was an inedible pile of wet soggy noodles. This is no place to be authentic but do not put a true Cantonese dish on here if you cannot make any part of it right. The jasmine tea was a crappy tea bag. The crab rangoons were ok but how do you mess up cream cheese and crab? My colleagues enjoy their meal as they went with American Chinese such as sweet and sour chicken. I love the decor and I didn't have to wait very long for a table. The hostess sat me in a booth right away. The waiter is super friendly, he took my order fairly quickly. I kept it simple and ordered the lunch sesame chicken. It comes with your choice of rice and egg or spring roll. I chose the egg roll and white rice options. My food came out very quickly. It was quicker than when you order take out. When food comes out really quickly, my assumption is it is just warmed up. The egg roll tasted just like the egg rolls you get from the frozen section at the grocery store. I didn't care for it. The sesame chicken was really good and it came in a nice size portion. The rice was just ok. It was a bit chewy and tasted like warmed up rice. My waiter was attentive and I enjoyed him. I would probably come back to try some of their drinks and sushi. I love Red Bowl! I've been to the Burlington and Cary locations. My favorite dishes are the chicken fried rice, avacado salad with ginger dressing, chicken satay, and beef with broccoli. The server, while polite, spoke so quietly that I had to ask multiple times for them to speak up--a small detail, but one that set the tone for what would prove to be an underwhelming meal. I ordered the hibachi steak and scallops with zucchini and broccoli, a dish that should showcase bold flavors and careful preparation. Unfortunately, the execution was severely lacking. The steak and scallops arrived with little to no seasoning, their pale and unappetizing appearance signaling a lack of attention in the kitchen. The vegetables, meant to be vibrant and crisp, were limp and watery, as though hastily scooped from a pot where they'd been sitting far too long. The lo mein, which accompanied the dish, was perhaps the most disappointing element. Instead of a cohesive and flavorful plate, it was served in a pool of water--an oversight from the pot sat vegetables that stripped the dish of texture and flavor, "The lo mein was so watery, it looked like a prop straight out of Titanic--just waiting to sink." - I had mentioned to my partner . The entire plate felt carelessly assembled, with no regard for presentation or quality. The experience left me so unimpressed that I didn't even bother to take a photo of the meal--a telling sign of how little the food inspired me. Dining should be a celebration of flavor and care, but this was anything but. This place was great! Exceeded expectations. The staff were super friendly! We got seated seconds after entering, and our drinks were ordered right after that. We took some updated menu photos, and we enjoyed the extensive menu so much. The atmosphere was beautiful. We were so excited to eat our food that we forgot to take photos- but we got the potstickers (soooo yummy) a bowl, and sushi. Absolutely awful experience. I came in with my best friend and her family, it was our first time. We had a party of 7. We came in on a Monday at noon. The place was empty besides one or two tables. It took them over 10 minutes to even greet us. When we were finally greeted the server said "do you know everything that you want". We ordered the Crab Rangoon and the bang bang shrimp as an appetizer. Both were good. We also ordered martinis which were good as well. My problem doesn't lie with the food. My problem was the manager NIKI. We ordered the noodles for one of her kids off the kids menu and they were AWFUL. They tasted dry, old, I even described them as "dusty". They tasted like they were cooked 2-3 days ago and left in the pot. Her daughter ate one bite and didn't like them. I too took a bite to make sure it wasn't just her. It wasn't. TWO BITES WERE MISSING FROM THE NOODLES. It took the server at least 10 minutes to come back so her daughter ate the fries because she was hungry. When he finally came back we told him the noodles were awful and dry. We asked if we could exchange them for the chicken nuggets and even said we didn't need more fries as she did eat the fries on the original plate. He said "let me ask my manager". He came back quickly and said "my manager said you have to eat it because you already started, so there's nothing we can do".... IM SORRY WHAT?? I've been a server for over 10 years and every single time one of my guest doesn't like something, we immediately take it away and get them what they want. Not to mention he took it from our table, walked around the restaurant with the plate, went back into the kitchen with the plate, then returned the same plate back to our table. Pretty sure that's against health code. We were still polite to the server as it wasn't his fault, and I just shared my meal with her daughter. What bothered us the most was the fact that the manager NIKI stood at the host stand and STARED US DOWN THE ENTIRE TIME. It made us feel very uncomfortable. So uncomfortable, we didn't order a second round of drinks like we planned. So uncomfortable, my nephew wanted another California roll, and we didn't order that either. So uncomfortable that we were going to order dessert, and didn't. Our 150+$ bill could have gone well over 200$. In a nutshell, Red Bowl, as a whole, has gone down hill in the last several years. When they first opened, they were fabulous. My last three visits have been very disappointing. Our latest visit (as the two previous) the service was just okay. This visit, our waitress didn't seem too enthused to be there. She didn't offer us dessert, and just assumed we were done when she brought the check. The place was empty and it was as if she was rushing us out. Our food came out waaayyy too fast. We didn't have time to casually enjoy our appetizers. I can say that we didn't weren't there more than 40 minutes. Our main course was PIPING HOT, and I almost burned my mouth. The taste of the food was simply decent. I've had better at a "fast food" Chinese take out place. The quality, freshness, temperature, and presentation of the sushi was less than mediocre. I ordered a salmon roll, and the size of the salmon was so small I couldn't even taste it. The avocado overwhelmed the taste. Overall, not a great experience. The ambience hasn't changed much since they opened, and sadly, the plates, glasses, and utensils looked old and almost dirty. I wish they would get back to the way they used to be.
