Excellent food and an intriguing menu...I had a butter chicken taco and a smoked pork taco...both were excellent with intriguing flavors. The butter taco was served in a warm pita like wrapper and tasted very much like butter chicken I have had at many Indian restaurants. The smoked pork taco had a slightly sweet salsa that was delicious and worth the trip back. The team there was very friendly and I'd drive back to Elon simply to eat there. My daughter is at Elon University and it took me four years to try this and I'm so glad I did. What a cute place, from the chalkboard menus to games you can take to your table and play to the wooden booths and bar stools. I love the clock that says "Oh My!! Look at the time" and the twelve time slots switch between Tacos, Beer, and Cocktails. They do keep it simple like that but it taste oh so good! Let's start with the cocktails. It was $2 off specialities so I had a Lavender margarita and my daughter an Elderflower Guava Mimosa. Both were terrific but we went back and ordered two more Lavender Margaritas because they were perfection. Tacos - you can order 1 - snack, 2 - light lunch or 3- dinner. We had the shrimp melt and the spicy fried catfish. Definitely a "do over." Everyone seems to have their favorites and I heard a lot of orders for the chicken & waffle taco...Will try that next time. Don't miss adding topped tots as your side. Tator tots topped with Parmesan cheese and a truffle aioli..I mean tots are good alone but add cheese and truffle, even better. I literally drove 1 hour 40 minutes both ways for these tacos and I would again and again. The shrimp melt is soooooo freaking good. A mix of crunchy, spicy and sweet?!? Absolute chefs kiss. Tangent is one of my favorite places to eat when I want to go out and be guaranteed to pay for food that I love. The staff is always so nice and accommodating, even when it's busy since the restraint is located in a college town. They have a great seating area; both inside and outside, with games, TV's, and interesting decor. read more

We came here with company at lunch on Friday because of the yelp reviews. They did not disappoint! Tangent is a relatively small eatery near Elon University which specializes in Asian fusion tacos. Our party ordered a variety of tacos and loved them all. Special mention goes to the roasted pork taco. My wife raved about it. I especially liked the shrimp melt and blackened shrimp tacos. This place is just what we needed and didn't even know it! Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted immediately by a super friendly staff. The menu is posted along the wall as you enter and you order at the counter. We ordered several different tacos. They have about 12 different unique ones to choose from. This is not your typical taco place so be ready for some interesting takes on a tacos. We ordered the Korean beef, catfish, Nashville Hot(and yes, it is that spicy, but so good!), chicken and waffle, friend green tomato and brisket. We shared and sampled all of them. My hands down fav was the catfish. My hubby loved the Korean beef best but the Nashville Hot was good too. The tater tots were so good. Love that truffle aioli. We also got their drink special $3 Ukraine Mules. $3?!! And they were delicious! We can't wait to come back for a visit! read more

Enjoyed dinner at Tangent while visiting my son at Elon. My two tacos were outstanding! Absolutely loved the Fall seasonal special Lion's Mane - well seasoned with great texture. There are a few beers on tap from some local breweries that we were excited to try. Coming from San Diego, we appreciate trying the local brew and especially some artisanal food. We have been to this place several times before. Our visit today ensures that we will not be returning. Yes, it was busy. But we have been when it was busy before. It took us 40 minutes to get our food!!!!! Absolutely no apologies were offered other than "sorry it's busy". Other people that came after us got their food before us. As for the food itself today...it was not up to the usual standard. As mentioned we have been here several times. The brisket taco did not look like brisket meat at all...more like roast beef honestly. The pork was dry on the pork taco. Both tacos were not even edible today. The blackened shrimp taco was deliciou so that was the one bright shining star of the day. The tater tots were completely burned today, also not edible. This place is AWESOME! I will definitely go back, and recommend it to others! I wanted one of each taco! But, decided on the Turmeric Chickpea taco and Brussel Truffle taco. Both were sooo delicious! As I did not require a fully vegan option, I subbed the tofu "mayo" for their spicy honey Mayo on the Indian taco. The turmeric chickpea paste is in a fritter rounded form with a crispy outer shell and a smooth inside. It truly was something special! My daughter had a 101 chicken taco (without the pico), she really enjoyed it. The bite I tried was good. :) My best friend got the Catfish taco, Shrimp taco, and Truffle Tots. Wanted to explore Elon University and this place is conveniently located in that area so we stopped by for lunch. Right now, they're takeout only, but theres some outdoor benches nearby you can sit at. We got all of our food ordered, paid for, and received super quickly. Here's what we ordered from fav to least fav and my ratings for them: Brussel Sprout Taco: 10/10 - LOVE, LOVE, LOVED IT! The brussel sprouts are seasoned and cooked to perfection. They also paired really well with the toppings. Also, it's vegetarian! bonus points! Fried Corn on the Cob: 8/10 - truffle butter and parmesan on top. it was DELICIOUS! also 2 pieces for 2.75, that's pretty good deal to me. Want to try it with chili honey butter next time. Spicy Fried Catfish Taco: 6/10 - not really spicy, but the catfish was crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside: yummy! The avocado and spiced honey mayo combo was very refreshing. Chicken and Waffle Taco: 5/10 - they got the chicken and waffle down flavor down pat with the sweet fried chicken, but besides that, there wasn't much else on the taco. If you love chicken and waffle, this would be your thing, but I'd rather pick another taco. Roasted Pork Taco: 5/10 - good, but would've preferred more seasoning on the pork. the tart apple salsa was a little too sour for me. Taco 101: 4/10 - choice of meat so thats nice, traditional toppings, pretty plain, nothing special I had a great time eating here and would defs stop by again if I'm ever in the Elon area! read more

I ordered a pork taco and a blackened shrimp one. The pork taco was a bit too sweet. The shrimp taco was better, in my opinion. Both tacos came with doubled tortillas. I used only one each to reduce the carbs. I subtracted a star because the tortillas were not warm. I'm used to them being warm by heating in a pan. It might be they heat them up but they're not warm by the time they get served. Service was pleasant and reasonably fast for my sit down meal. I'll go again and try a chicken, fried green tomato or fish taco next time. read more

This place is a real gem in Elon. Delicious tacos, with a buy-what-you-like setup. Seating is quite limited and this place is in high demand, so it is not uncommon where you have to wait a bit. Patience pays off, the reward is worth the wait. Before the pandemic, they offered a refreshing water option which I wish would return. On my last visit, when requesting water I was charged for a water bottle which was expensive and not as good as what they used to offer for free. read more

I'm super picky about tacos having moved from LA (land of the best tacos around) to the east coast, and I've got to say, Tangent has impressed me. I haven't found many good taco places since I've moved east, but I can confidently say that Tangent is one of the few places I highly recommend to try out. It is conveniently--for students--located right next to/on campus, but the parking can get a little tricky during the busy lunch hours. We went to Tangent around 1pm and was able to find parking, but we got lucky. The parking lot was pretty packed despite Tangent being fairly empty at the time. I ordered three tacos: Shrimp Melt Taco, Brussel Truffle Taco, and the Korean Steak Taco. They frequently change some of them around (seasonal stuff), but I think most of the common ones stay on their menu. My favorite was definitely the Brussel Truffle Taco. Something about the melting of flavors together was so fantastic. There were brussel sprouts, aioli sauce, melted cheese and red onion. That combination was just heaven! The Korean Steak Taco was filling and full of flavor--also a really good one. The Shrimp Melt was probably my second favorite because of the way they again played with the flavors. The spicy honey mayo and cilantro sauce was a great combination along with the spinach and fried shrimp. All the tacos are pretty filling, so after 2, I was actually pretty full (granted, I'm a pretty small person). They also have the option of being put on a corn tortilla, if like me, you are gluten-intolerant. They also denote on the menu which items are gluten free. I was particularly impressed by the gentleman taking our orders at the cash register. I asked him if I could please have all my tacos on a corn tortilla instead of flour and I made a small comment to my boyfriend about the brussel sprouts and korean steak ones being gluten free. After he took our orders, he pardoned himself to run back to the kitchen real quick. He came back within a minute or two and let me know that the batter that the shrimp is fried in is not gluten-free and gave me the option of grilled shrimp in case I still wanted a shrimp taco. That was so kind and thoughtful of him to go out of his way to double check with the kitchen staff without me prompting him to go ask. Since it was only a little bit of batter, I wasn't gonna make a big deal out of it, so I was gonna eat it the original fried way anyway. But it was so nice of him to ask and double check. When the food came out, he came by and double checked again that I had received the corn tortillas and made sure they weren't flour. Again, very much appreciated that he'd go the extra mile. I wish I had gotten his name, but I think this guy deserves a gold star and a raise. This is the kind of customer service that gets people coming back. Although I'm not a local, I will for sure be returning for great tacos and great dining experience! read more

It was our first time trying this place and she seemed impatient and could really careless about if we enjoyed our experience or not. Besides that , the vibe/dynamic of the establishment was decent. Two ate dinner for $34.00. So a really neat dinner alternative, lighter, fresh and packed with flavor. We came when college was out so no wait. The Fried Catfish Taco was tremendous but my favorite was the K-Stare Taco, meat had great flavor, jalapeños were not hot and the sauce with sliced cucumbers made it (a conglomerate of flavor). Extremely disappointed is an understatement. Staff kicked us out of a seat while we waited for our food to sit outside. We waited an hour before they finally asked what we ordered. The blonde woman didn't put two of our tacos on the order and claimed we didn't order them because if so she "would have rang them up." She then didn't even offer to add the two (that she forgot) on as a courtesy considering there are multiple open tables. She then got angry because we asked for them for free since it had been an hour at that point and yelled at us that "she's not going to argue" that she didn't put our order in correctly. I brought my parents to try this time and they loved it!! We each got 3 tacos which was more than filling! I had to get the Brussels taco again which is my favorite, the girl who took our order at the counter recommended the fried green tomato so I got that too and it was amazing - the cilantro cream sauce was tasty! And I tried the blackened shrimp for my 3rd - it was fine and had a nice spice to the shrimp but the mango relish sauce wasn't powerful enough in taste to really solidify it so I ended up eating this taco with Valentino hot sauce! My parents tried the roasted pork and a regular chicken which they liked but my mom mentioned the pork had a sweet taste to it versus a savory one but still good. The young guy behind the bar who seemed to be in charge that night was so nice and kept talking to us and making sure my parents beers stayed filled!
