The last review was 6 years ago ???? Why is that ?? No one eats here anymore??? Every time I drove by here , the parking lot isn't full ( is that why they say plenty of parking? Apparently this restaurant has been at the same location since it opened..some time in the late 70's with a new owner in the 80s who still owns it ! I took a shot today and decided to try them out . And called for take out Dinner for 1 with a side order of onion cakes. . I mean you gotta have those with dinner first choice: egg roll or spring rolls. Second choice wonton or sweet and sour soup Third ginger beef or szechuan shrimp. Outside , the restaurant is on the corner of a strip mall and looks very dated . Inside it is a bit inviting but the hostess / cashier desk is tucked in the corner . My order wasn't quite ready so I peaked into the dining room ( lots of empty tables for a 6 pm on a Saturday night). I noticed they had a buffet table in the middle of the room.. I asked if they still offer it . No.. they stopped it..4 YEARS AGO !! I guess they like the reminder ??? The hostess was a lovely girl but watching her literally run to the kitchen to get my order was kind of funny considering they weren't busy . My order arrived $23.25 . Once home I unpacked everything.. Spring rolls were good Onion cakes were still slightly raw in the middle The soup was in a very small container ( the ones you'd use for a single gravy order ) but it was good . The main entree was in one container. .. lots of rice and vegetables.. about 6 or 7 pieces of ginger beef. Overall. Not a lot of food for what others give and the taste is kind of bland . Even the beef tasted like it was premade frozen and then heated . No taste at all .Not great overall .. I'd get more food though from a shopping mall food court to be honest . I have had orders from other chinese restaurants and had more quantity and better quality . As much as I love consuming Asian foods like Japanese, Taiwanese, Korean, Vietnamese and East Indian, Chinese has always been a bit of a hit and miss for me personally. I find Chinese food to be a little to heavy for me most of the time - my intestines and really oily food aren't the best of friends.... But there are a few tasty exceptions amongst the buffet spread available here, such as fried rice (can't go wrong there), wonton soup (tasty as always), and little jello-thing desserts The exterior is a little worse for wear, but I found the interior decor to be quiet stunning, with their intricate decorative wall panels and artistic centrepieces. It looked much nicer inside than out, which was a pleasant surprise. The staff were also really good with removing our finished plates and topping up our drinks frequently, as well as keeping the buffet area clean. read more

People are very divided about certain types of food and this is one of them. I really enjoyed it. It is a place that I have been passing by for my entire life, well the parts that I can remember, but never once gave it a shot. Recently I had the chance. It is in a neighbourhood strip mall, with more than sufficient parking. The entry way is traditionally themed. There is a very large Buddha which I very much enjoy. It was a Wednesday night so it was no wait. There were other people there, many that came and went fairly efficiently. The service started off a little rocky, but it was still good service. It did improve in efficiency as the evening played out. I went there thinking I would be eating a buffet, but the dinner buffet is saved for Friday to Sunday, or their lunch buffet Monday to Friday. However, the food is served family style, so you get your own personalized buffet. Who could complain about that? The food was generously portioned and made to order. Our party was 5 people, so we ordered the "Dinner for Four" plus 1 which was more than sufficient. There were much leftovers to enjoy later! The food was delicious. I wish the ginger beef was more gingery. The crispy garlic chicken was probably my favourite of the entree dishes. I cannot wait to go back again. read more

I have been going here and their old location since 1976 and it is still wonderful. I don't think it's changed at all inside. Very nice, very Chinese! The food is excellent. There is a shrimp tomato dish that is the best. Can't say enough good things about the food. Service is great too! read more

I have read a lot of bad reviews on this place and a few so so... And only a couple good reviews. I decided to support my local Chinese restaurant anyhow.... Probably not going to go back. We ordered the lemon chicken, the beef and pea pods and the spring rolls...... $32 to get dry, barely breaded, lukewarm chicken... Barely any beef with more than enough pea pods... And the spring rolls were unfortunately soft and bland... Quite disappointed... The servings sizes were minuscule for what the prices and to be honest it's the first time I have ever been disappointed with lemon chicken... We were given a bitter orange sauce with it instead.... This was the nastiest buffet I have ever had the misfortune to try. Everything was loaded with so much MSG it was like eating a pile of oily salt. The vegetables were horribly overcooked and the meat was little better than dog food. The staff was rude and uncaring, ignoring whe we asked for more water. read more

We have only had take out 3 times from Red Diamond and have not been disappointed . We like there ginger Beef, nice and crispy not soggy like most places, large enough take out portions for a couple left over snacks. ant they come in reusable plastic containers with snap lids. there always seems to be a decent crowd in the restaurant when I went to pick up my order. read more

I haven't eaten here, but I live a few blocks away and they're my go-to for takeout. The people who answer the phone are clear and efficient and have never gotten my order wrong. Pick up times are very quick (15-20 minutes) Prices are fair for the portions you get. My personal favorite is the Hot and Sour soup. read more

Best Chinese food in Edmonton hands down. The honey garlic ribs are to die for, and the boneless pork is awesome.

Its not bad. The food isn't the greatest quality I've tasted or the greatest flavor. But I'll give them credit for that everything is cooked to perfection... deep fried bits aren't soggy doughy but not hard, vegetables still have lots of crunch but not raw, meat is also done to perfection. Tonight friends and I went out to the Red Diamond House for Chinese Food. Obviously family run and the servers were helpful and very friendly. We ate here in January. We came back again in February and my father walked in and seated himself at a table near the window. This is a habit of his and servers are used to this at most restaurants we go to. They've never said anything nasty to him when he did this. The waitress at Red Diamond nearly wet her pants when he did this. She said that the table he had chosen was reserved for someone else, but there was no reserved sign on the table. If there had been, he would have chosen another table. The manager came over and told my father to move to another table because the one he - my father had chosen - was reserved for someone else. When I mentioned that there's not reserved sign on the table, the manager nearly wet HIS pants. My father jokingly told him "this is my table. Next time I come I want to have this one." The manager and waitress then proceeded to tell every customer in the restaurant that this was my father's table and they're not allowed to sit there. OMG - I have never been treated like this in any restaurant. There's a huge street sign on the corner of 82nd Avenue and 75th Street that says that the restaurant is open at 11 am for the lunch buffet. When we arrived on April 3rd, the manager arrived at the same time we did - at about 11:10 am. He then proceeded to tell us that the restaurant might be open at 11 am but the buffet doesn't open until 11:30 am. Shouldn't there be a sign that says that the buffet opens at 11:30 am? Why should customers have to guess about this? I get the feeling that this manager has a serious attitude problem. He doesn't take any responsibility for things that go wrong. He doesn't like criticism. If something is wrong, it's the customer's fault, not his. read more

So myself and the hubby were looking for somewhere close to eat late tonight. Seeing as this was only a few blocks away we said we would give it a try. We were greeted by the very friendly owner who sat us down and made sure we didn't want for anything. To start we had the spring rolls... Six in a portion, lovely and crispy, perfect for sharing. For the main I had the curried chicken and my other half had the manchurian beef. The chicken was lovely and spicy, nice and tender with lots of veg. The beef came out on a sizzling platter, again lovely and tender with plenty of veg. We both finished our meal extremely impressed. We also tried the berry ice cream cake for dessert which was out of this world. Perfect way to wash down the meal. Nice and light and sweet. Waited a long time to go to Red Diamond. WAS WORTH IT. The buffet was $20.95 and we came on a Sat evening. Waiter was super friendly, efficient and the food actually had flavour! The last time we were here we ate off of the menu and it was really good. This time we decided to go for the buffet and were a little disappointed. Not that it wasn't good, but eating off the menu is definitely better. I still love the place because they have a very friendly staff and food is better than most Chinese restraunts. read more

We have been eating regularly at the Red Diamond for the last few years. The warm, friendly service and good food definitely keep us coming back. I have called at the last minute on a busy night to try to get a table close to the buffet for my elderly father and they are always warm and accommodating. I have been to the Red Diamond House a few times over the years, and I've never had anything to complain about. I went for the buffet recently and it was even better than I remember - the food was hot and regularly restocked, and there were new dishes. The honey ribs were quite fatty and the desserts were running low, but otherwise everything was delicious! Friendly staff, as always. read more

Recently went with my family to this restaurant. It was not a buffet day so we assumed it was empty for that reason. When we came into the restaurant my 14 year old brother screamed he had seen a mice running around. We didnt make much of it as we thought he was joking. However after we had ordered he kept saying about the mice running around. We talked to our server but she acted shocked, she started looking around but she didnt say anything about it nor denied it. She did not apologize and proceeded to observe us very closely. It was extremely uncomfortable to know that we were not only being watched from behind the wooden carved walls but also to know there could be a mice infestation as they are not in small groups or pairs. After eating our mediocre meal we were surprised to see we had been charged our full meal, we did not ask for a discount as we did not want to take advantage of the situation. Needless to say we had a bad taste in our mouth after leaving and we will not be coming back again. The way the staff handled this complain was extremely unprofessional and disappointing. As we were leaving, who seemed to be the owner gave us an upset look and did not say goodbye until we did. Horrible place. read more
