4/5 October, 2025. We stopped here while visiting family in the area. We were impressed by the ambiance and service right off the bat. The theme is a Welsh bar, hence the Red Dragon. The beer was good, definitely better than your average craft brewery if not quite on part with the absolute best. The parking immediately at the brewery is a bit tight but there are some municipal lots within a few blocks. Would definitely recommend it and we'll be back in the future. read more

Stopped by here tonight for a brew before dinner at a restaurant in Old Town. Beer was good, and the atmosphere was very chill there. Very informal, and the waitress was VERY nice and helpful. We out of there by 5:00pm on a Saturday night, and it was not crowded. I can't speak for what it gets like there later in the evening on a weekend. My wife and I split a flight, and then we split another beer of our favorite. All of the beers they serve are made there. We only got beer, but the pretzel that the people down the bar got looked REALLY good. Princess Anne Street is interesting. Red Dragon is in a pretty run-down commercial area, and I wouldn't be comfortable wandering around there at night. However, you go a block-and-half toward Old Town and when you cross Fauquier Street, it's like flipping a light switch. Suddenly, you're in a historic residential area. read more

After many years, I decided to try Red Dragon again. What a turn around! The service here is fantastic, the beer is so much more consistent and enjoyable. They always have more than just a couple of types of beer on draft. They even had a cask for a while! The Fredericksburg Lager is hand down one of my favorite beers. Wow! Red Dragon Brewery is a craft brewery close to historic Fredericksburg, Virginia. My buddy and I went on a December Saturday during the pandemic. Since it was cold outside, their outdoor patio seating was closed. We opted for a brief inside visit. Tables were far from each other, masks enforced and the high ceilings gives it better circulation. On a hard-to-read TV near the bar is the menu that rotates. My friend ordered an IPA and I tried their two sour ales. The IPA was solid and the tart cherry sour was spot on. They offer full pours or smaller pours in case you want to try a few. read more

While in town I surfed Yelp for craft brew and boom - here I am at Red Dragon. Quiet on a Tuesday so had the attention of the beer server. This is a really nice brewery and tap room in the old town section of Fredericksburg Virginia. They offer an nice selection of beers, including New England, American and English styles. They also have a seltzer and a summer shandy. They offer growlers to go as well as cans of some of their regular offerings. The interior tap room is nicely decorated with art work from local artists. The windows are large which gives it a nice open atmosphere. They have a television on the back wall. It reminds me of some of the bars in London. I sampled the Sideways IPA, English IPA and The Danny Boy Blonde. All were really good. I took a growler of the Danny Boy home. When in the area, definitely check this place out. read more

I'd argue that Red Dragon is one of the best breweries in the state, especially when it comes to fruit-heavy sours. Their creamsicles are on par with Jreams and the Never series. I hope one day they can distribute to RVA. As it stands, I know their production is super small, so I hope to return to try more iterations of the series in coming months. In late April I planned an oil change nearby to give myself an excuse to finally visit. I had tried their stuff at festivals and heard amazing reviews from other beer friends, but I had never stepped foot in their tasting room until that point. It was a hot and hazy Sunday and I ordered a couple half pours -- a mango cherry tart and a mixed berry creamsicle. Both were phenomenal of course. I then moved from a table to a seat that opened along the bar and got to chatting with the guys working (and other patrons at the bar also). They were all super friendly and knowledgeable about the regional brewery scene. If I lived in Fredericksburg, I'd be a regular for sure. Since I don't, I'll continue to root them on from afar. read more

Perfect brewery for a Saturday afternoon. I loved the Hose thay has real fruit. Just wish they sold those in crowlers. Food truck in site but no food in brewery. The latest in an explosions of local breweries. Red Dragon actually feels more like a pub than a brewery (not that there is anything wrong with that). Where as some breweries have kinda a rough home spun quality to them, this feels a tad more polished, like an Irish pub that just opened where everything is still shiny. But the patrons were locals, who are lucky enough to live in walking distance (this is also set in town, just off the main strip). I chatted a while with my very friendly server (and maybe owner?) and he explained how they haven't yet settled on any flagship beers. But I was happy to see that none of their beers - even their IPAs - seemed especially bitter. Finally, a brewery that doesn't feel like it must be a competitor in the "IPA arms race"! But what they are producing seems to be popular, with several recent editions selling out fast. Their 4 barrel system isn't as tiny as some places, but the batches are still small so never last long. While they had 12 beers on tap, although several of those had just kicked. That's OK, I did a selection of 4 (and a tiny sample of a 5th) and was quite happy with what I found. Morning Dew Double IPA: First off I admit I was skeptical; I'm not an IPA fan by any means. That said, I love what they did with this. "Juicy" is an apt description, and it's bereft of the high bitterness factor many IPAs have. For the first time in a while, I can say I've found an IPA I'd order a pint of. Irish Stout: Kinda malty finish. Not bad, but not a Guinness. "Tell No Lies" Smoked beer: OK I admit; I did this just to try it. I'm not a fan of smoked beer but I do appreciate a place that's willing to experiment. Maybe not as smoky as some others I've had recently. Magpie English Brown: Another style that's hit-or-miss for me. I wouldn't mind reordering it, but it wasn't as high on my go-to list as some others. Not especially bitter and smoother than some other brown ales I've had lately. Unfortunately their Saison and Imperial IPA were both out, but they had several items that sounded tasty brewing up. I'll have to check back with them periodically so I can run back before they sell out again. read more

Date of visit 03/16/2019 We stopped in for a brew or two (who am I kidding...I went along with my hubby and daughter, I don't like beer!). We had been celebrating my daughter's birthday all weekend so this was the 3rd brewery of the weekend. Red Dragon is a cute place. I liked that they have a nice variety of board games to play at your table while you hang out there. It was a beautiful day, weather wise, and the large garage type doors were open. Got a $7 ipa that was undrinkable. In their defense they hinted that it would be pretty bad, but it was kinda rancid. Couldn't finish it. All my friends tried it and said it was rancid. The $10 ipa was better, but still not that good. They should throw out the bad batch or lower it's price to $3. read more

Open air warehouse feel. Hipster bartenders. All the sours you could possibly want. I've never enjoyed spurs before coming to Red Dragon. I got the mango sour and it was pretty phenomenal! It almost tasted like a mimosa. This is a wonderful stop and you should definitely check it out. read more

I asked if half-glass was smallest they have, and guy said that's the smallest sized pour. 10 minutes later I came up to bar to get another glass, and saw a few guys with a flight of 3oz pours. I appreciate the fact they have a wide variety of styles and try to stick with the more traditional flair to keep inline with the old welsh theming! I wish the outdoor area was a little more organized and inviting, but why sit outdoors when you can sit at the bar and have a great conversation with the friendly staff? My brothers and I stopped in Red Dragon during their grand opening last Saturday. This is a great new spot for Fredericksburg and it's got huge potential! I decided on a flight of the Red IPA, the Stout, the Blonde Belgian and the Kolsch. The IPA and the Stout were my favorites. The stout was nice and smooth and just a hint of coffee which was perfect. It looked like they had a new IPA coming out on Sunday, which I look forward to trying next time! Even for a grand opening we were able to find a hi-top with enough seats. The order and pay line is simple and I like how it makes it less crowded at the bar - you pick up your beer from a different area when they call your name. Employees walked around clearing glasses from tables which was nice. We were able to find street parking not far away. They don't serve food, but you can bring any food in or have it delivered. They had a menu available for an Irish pub down the street, but we weren't really feeling it and ordered Papa Johns instead. Still, it would be nice to see some bowls pretzels or Chex Mix out for those who just want a little snack. I was just visiting for the weekend from out of town, but next time I'm in Fredericksburg it will definitely be a stop for me! read more

I'm not a big beer person, but I like a good Hefeweizen and something of the like, this place has a VERY limited beer menu, which is odd for a brewery. I mean, even if the establishment doesn't brew a specific kind of beer, it should at least carry different bottles to cater to all patrons. They legit only had stout, sours, and IPAs. read more

Very nice establishment. Well lit and family friendly with plenty O games for the kids to enjoy while the parents enjoy their beverages. There was a selection of 13 beers to choose from and sample. 12 available for flights so we tried them all. We really didn't expect to enjoy them all, but they were all really great beers in there own way. Nothing offensive. Will definitely be visiting there again. Randomly stopped by Red Dragon a couple years back while visiting Fredericksburg. Since then, we love to swing by for a beer when on a I-95 weekend trip. I always enjoy the beer, usually leave with a crowler. The vibe is laid back and staff is friendly. This most recent visit brought home 4 packs of an IPA (Fra-gee-lay) and stout (Second Cup: Dark Espresso). Been enjoying them all week. Stopped by on a Tuesday evening wanting to kill some time. Cool, laid back atmosphere. Trivia was happening and there was a food truck outside and they were delivering the food to the patrons inside. Beers were just ok. I had the Key Lime Pie sour and it was beyond sour (and I like sour!) And my fiance got the Skye IPA which was just blah. The beers seem to be on a rotating basis so perhaps we just didnt try the good ones. read more
