My son has been attending Red Dragon since January. He's learned so much and has really taken an interest in karate. I have seen change in his self-esteem, and his behavior through the end of the school year. Our child really likes it and it has helped in terms of helping with their attention span and attitude, so kudos to Eddie and Mitchell. Now where do I start regarding Joe? I called in and said that I wanted to take advantage of the online offer which was 8 free classes plus 3 private classes and the gi would be $69. I ended up calling to find out what time the classes were because that is one thing that isn't posted on the website and he said "oh if you come in this week I'll give you a deal better than the online deal." So we did. Somehow he ended up charging us $199 anyway but said that we wouldn't be charged again until March 1. He stayed around and taught class the three days that week even though he was late EVERY DAY and then we hadn't seen him again until it was time for him to come in and ask us for payment. Then he tried to charge us early! Saying that we agreed to February 15. But even worse, he isn't discreet or, more importantly, professional when dealing with parents regarding their finances. We awkwardly stood there while he told another parent "you can either give me your credit card information for auto pay or you can be done here" while the parent tried to calmly explain that they already had a discussion about it and they were under the impression that he was going to work with them like they talked about before. Joe is just so rude about getting the message across. If our child didn't like going there to be taught by Eddie and Mitchell we would've walked out right then and we are still considering it. I highly recommend coming in and seeing the WHOLE picture before making any commitments. Joe definitely needs to work on his people skills. read more

Liar and rude most disrespectful person I met doing a job with kids. Almost made my kids cry because he decided to get in an argument with me in front of my kids stated screaming and telling me that I can quit if I wanted to because there is no refunds. Made them wait for 1 hour and 15 minutes to tell them that their class already passed on there 2nd week. Refused to give me any money back so I can take them to another location they, my two boys, practiced 5 days and I was charged $260 dollars. Joe is a bully and demands respect however does not give respect. Disappointed and upset that my kids can not go there because of this mans bad attitude. My daughters have been studying under Master Joe Class for 6 years. My oldest daughter started getting bullied at a very young age and had lost confidence and self esteem due to it. With dedication and discipline she has become a very respectful and self empowered young lady who makes honor roll every year. So many good things to say!! I have been training at this location with goals to get in shape and learn self defense, and it has been so worth my time and money! Master Class always has a positive attitude and is so encouraging. He makes sure you have the moves perfected and never cheats you out of your practice time. Beware! If I could give zero stars I would, as the service that my children and I have received from the sensei Joe who runs this specific RDK has been almost unbelievable. First and foremost it's important that people know that Joe is a con man. He takes advantage of parents who are concerned for their children whether it's due to bullying, anti-social behavior or whatever other reason parents seek his services, as he will attempt to appeal to them and sell himself. He behind by offering great deals and service that will help any child overcome whatever insecurities or challenges they are facing. However it's all just words to get people's money. My son and nephew supposedly received one of his "great deals." They attended 4 nights per week and we're guaranteed one on one trainings, 1 free month, uniforms and any other materials they may need. Right away I knew something was sketchy since my son and nephew were in a group of four others who almost doubled in age. My two boys are 7 & 8 while the other kids were older adolescents, that didn't make sense since this was their first time doing karate and all these older kids were already proficient. Next issue, my sons uniform took 1 month to come in as well as his hand wraps which turned out being the color purple... Needless to say he didn't want to use them since the other kids had black or red hand wraps and ordering other colors was not possible according to Joe. He began charging me for things my son and nephew didn't even need... Shin guards, breaking blocks and jump ropes? Ridiculous! The absolute biggest issues I had were 1. The free month he promised was a lie! He ended up charging my account over $200 and when asked why when he said July would be a free month Joe responded with "That's only if you were to continue services, since your canceling there is no free month." 2nd biggest issue... He became supper unprofessional and disrespectful when I told him we would be no longer be continuing services with him. He insulted me as a parent when I explained how my son did not like the classes because he was too small compared to the other kids and got no one on one instruction. He explained how, in his opinion, kids do what their parents tell them and how we should force them to go whether they like it or not." The man is just unbelievable. The one time my husband took the kids to practice he returned and said how he observed Joe offering a "great deal" to another family charging them close to $100 more then he charged us. It's like he sees people and makes a personal judgment on how much he can scam them for. All I'm saying is beware! I wouldn't want anyone to go through what we did. Yeah he cheated us out of $200 + for services my son and nephew didn't even get, but it was worth it to not have to deal with this man anymore. read more

This review is for the RDK in Ontario ONLY!!! registered my son here in June of 2017 and at first everything was fine , but then i started experience things that would upset me especially with a son that has ADHD and ASD, I'm not the type of parent who observes then speaks or i choice not to if your the type of person who can't understand or gets angry or passive aggressive I don't waist your time there. 1. always making me pay for things my son does not need or isn't even ready for at higher price. 2. having to wait outside max 30 min in the hot cold or rain , because he would always be late. And then get upset if the kids are playing and at some point I've had homeless people try to fight us. While we are outside waiting him to show up. 3. Sensei joe Will intimate and scolded my son due to his nails knowing we had to go to doctors to have the clip due to is disability. Don't have patients for child is ADHD. Will get very inpatient and start yelling at the kids. My son was so scared of him that he would CRY not wanting to go back to Master Joe class. 4. paying for items and not receiving it till 2 ,3 months later , and other people have experienced up to 9 months and the items are not cheap ! Also paying for your things and haven't even received the whole thing after months, so you would have to wait again lol 5. business matters are not done privately, it's literally in front of everyone which I hate. No else needs to know our business. 6. He would have special treatment with other students over others. In the matter of they would only pay 20 for private lesson and other he would charge 50. This goes for anything else you need to purchase. the way Sensei treats his clients is not ok , we are a client who are paying for a service and we pay for our time , you don't pay us for our time when your always late , and this is NOT towards RDK personally, just this ONE specifically, I switched my son to another RDK and he is doing perfect now, this is my experience and I have a right to put it how it went and that's what reviews are for , I paid for stuff and yet have missing stuff. If you are looking for a dojo, look no further. Master Joe Class is amazing! My daughter has tried other karate classes but this is by far the best one. He is patient, knowledgeable, highly skilled, and professional. I am so grateful for all the skills he has taught my daughter. Since she has been taking his karate and sparring classes, my daughter's coordination and motor skills have improved drastically Also, her emotional health has improved as well; her self confidence and self esteem has definitely augmented. My sisters and I go here and we have had an outstanding experience so far. Master class is very patient even with kids who have disabilities. The karate and kickboxing classes help build both discipline and confidence. I highly recommend you bring your children here. I took 2 of my kids here. The instructor Joe from the get go wanted my wife and I to sign a contract. He promised to help my son break out of his bubble because he was really shy. He said he would have my son participating with the class on his own within a matter of weeks. After a few weeks nothing changed. Then he said he had weekend classes too. At an additional charge of course!! Again promising that would help. We got fed up with the instructor always being late and if he wasn't late he would just not show up and send his kids I believe to do the class. The younger instructors seem to do better with the kids and would for the most part be some what on time . read more

Disappointed. Talked to Master Joe over the phone about our 5 & 8yr old boys joining karate. He quoted me a price of $185 for both. My 5yr old is autistic and I asked if that was an issue. Master Joe said his son also has autism and he teachers others with autism. However, within minutes of the free lesson- the look on his face and his demeanor was annoyance towards our son. For someone who says they know autism, he sure didn't act like he understood our sons behavior in any way. Then came the price, which jumped up to $299! He started to bully us into signing the kids up, and we felt forced to hand him over money. It left a very bad taste in my mouth, and I did not feel comfortable having either of my children train with this man. I asked for my money back right away and he refused. Not only did he refuse but he then began to disregard us as parents. As if we were terrible parents for not wanting this for our children. I'm sorry, but why would I want to take my kids to a karate class with someone who just called me a bad parent, and who was clearly annoyed the whole time with our kids, while we were there at the location???? Both boys have special needs. My eldest has a heart problem, that we've spent most of his life surrounded by doctors and never ending heart surgeries, and my little one with autism. He tried to convince us to at least take the kids to a couple of sessions to get our money's worth, of what he sucked out of us. But, as I said before, I don't feel comfortable allowing my children anywhere near this man. So that's not going to happen. You're an awesome man, Master Joe. Taking money from a family that has two special needs kids. Good for you. read more

This place is extremely AWESOME! I have done soccer, swimming, cycled 60 miles, worked out with professional body builders, NOTHING has been as good a workout as this kick boxing class. Joe is so easy going and has a deep passion for his clients and what he does. I signed my three year old up under the premise that the sensei could handle working with a typical young, very energetic and easily distracted child. After the first lesson I was being pushed to pay for a month of private very expensive lessons due to my sons "behavioral" issues. He's three. The sensei is always LATE and we all know waiting in the car for 15-20 minutes is really helpful for a three year olds interest. I asked the other parents if the tardiness was typical and they laughed and told me "pretty much every week". One week my husband left work early to see our son, we waited outside almost 45 minutes until the sensei arrived and canceled class because he had a "bee issue" at home. Yes we were still charged for that week. The only time the classes started on time was when the younger sensei was in charge of the class, he was awesome, very patient with all the kids and my son adored him, problem was we never knew when he would be there. The final straw was when my child was repeatedly scolded because he didn't understand the instructors demands for a perfect push-up. He kept yelling at him to get off his stomach, so my child would stand up, he thought that's what the guy wanted him to so when he said "get off your stomach." I twice said "sensei he doesn't understand what you're asking" he was physically picked up and asked to leave the class because the sensei "couldn't handle" him. That day there was only one other child in class, another very hyper and unfocused youngster. I was told we couldn't return until my son had private lessons. I was also criticized in front of other parents for missing some classes and not doing private lessons as suggested. The sensei had no idea why we had missed some classes. (My two year old had a terrible illness and had been hospitalized) I choose to not return, and didn't feel responsible to pay three additional contracted months because the sensei "couldn't handle" my child after promises of expert experience with autism, ADD, ADHD, So we discontinued going because 1. I couldn't afford private lessons 2. The sensei was rude and insulting 3. It's very hard to wrangle my three children twice a week and have them sit in the car while we waited for the sensei to show up late and then rush the kids through the class. 4. I never received his full uniform 5. Other parents I have since talked to reported additional crappy behavior. Buyer beware, if you have a little one and are interested in martial arts get them involved in a much cheaper class through the city's recreation department. read more

When I think about RDK Ontario, I think of the studio as complex. Reasons why I think of it as complex has to do with everyone having a different stage of mind within their opinions. I admit karate is not for everyone. The definition of karate that I have been taught by Master Joe Class is an art that there's no such thing as perfection until you say so. I have been training with Master Class for five years, I was at the age of 13 and at that time I wasn't in a good position. I was the girl with anger issues and was not capable of handling herself, but now five years I am 18 years old and I know how to take care of myself and be independent. Running at Etiwanda Preserve (because Claremont Loop is closed for road and brush maintenance) today...temp was 92 when I started. At about 3 miles into run I started feeling nauseous. The heat wasnt bothering me. I knew immediately my body was trying to be stubborn. I didn't have a headache or rapid heartbeat. So definetly wasn't the heat. I started to feel like I wanted to throw up. When suddenly I heard over and over in my head " your not going to throw up Mary....your not going to throw up...stop over thinking and finish strong". I finished the run, I didn't throw up and I felt good. I started giggling a bit realizing that the voice in my head was my personal trainer, kids Sensei and personal ass kicker Master Joe Class . Whenever I over think or start to lose steam in training he always makes me push HARD! No joking...dead serious. Thank you Master Class for instilling discipline, hard work, mental strength and helping me become and continue to work towards ultimate fitness and health. I joined this location because I missed hitting physical bags that my gym classes didn't provide. I attend the adult kickboxing cardio evening classes. I did a free trial with Master Joe and I immediately knew this was the place for me. Master Joe is great to work with he focuses on technique and cardio training. I am athletic and have had my fair share of experiences with coaches and he is excellent! I find myself challenged yet inspired after every class.
