A few of the items stood out including the fried tofu which came out crispy without being oily and the larb salad with bamboo shoots. The fish curry did not make us miss Thailand. Watery without any depth of flavor and the battered fried fish became soggy after soaking in the watery curry. Excellent service and the food came out quickly considering it was a busy Saturday night. They don't have alcohol but can BYO. There's a Long's and Times Supermarket across the street if you forget. First time here for us! Great place to get your Thai fix! Parking VERY limited, so park across the street near Longs. The 6 stalls were very tight! Wouldn't park my RollsRoyce in there! LOL!! Neither my Suburban! Hahaha!! Good that you can BYOB but corkage fee is $10. They provided cups and ice with bucket though! I was very excited to try this local Thai restaurant and ordered through their website. Unfortunately, they utilize some bootleg order management system, and the tracking number I was giving didn't actually work. Ten minutes pas the estimated delivery time, and nothing. When I called the restaurant to complain, they tried to tell me that Door dash had picked it up. I waited another twenty minutes and called again. I explained that I had ordered through their website, and not DoorDash and thus had no way to track the order on DoorDash. After arguing with the restaurant for a refund, I was told they would "take care of it." Now I am carefully watching my credit card to ensure that I do receive a refund. Bottom line: maybe a good restaurant, just make sure you don't order through their website. read more

Honestly super disappointed with this place, I'd heard such good things about it. We decided to go for Valentine's Day but had reservations and for 6:30. So not a super busy dinner time when we first came in it wasn't super busy at all. We both orders took us around 20 min to get our order in but we just couldn't decide what we wanted. Our server was really nice but seems forgetful. We ordered the sweet & sour pad tai and pad mamma with a Thai iced tea. It's 7:47pm and 10 minutes ago I got my iced tea... haven't even gotten our food yet I went up to the server and asked what the eta was on the food and she went to check told me my food was coming out next. And 10-15 minutes later our food came out. The food was good and would do takeout. But the lack of communication between the server and us and it's Valentine's Day, like the situation could've been handled better. I'm pretty sure our food was completely forgotten about or lost and we basically waisted 1 hour just waiting on nothing. They did give us a complementary mango sticky rice and whoever gave it to us was the only person who apologized for the wait, the server handed us our food and said that the to-gos where taking a long time like. Also the service is very mid, they didn't refill our waters once, when the food came out no one checked in with us to see how it is. And we are also still yet to get the bill (8:13pm). Now that we are under another Covid closure we ran in for take out ... ordered the seafood salad, evil jungle chicken, green beef curry, beef pad kee mao,, fried garlic fish and taro tapioca ... everything Thai hot ! It was even better than last time !!! The staff are all sweet and very efficient with packing it all up and making sure to get every order right ! New Thai restaurant? We're there! Thanks to Kelly G and Peter Y, we found out about this place. Red Elephant Thai Cuisine is located off Waialae Ave across from Long's and Times. It's red so you can't miss it. They have a private lot in the back of the building but they have limited parking so keep that in mind when dining here. You'll have the option to dine inside or outside. We opted for inside since we came for a late lunch and AC sounded good on a hot day. I can imagine dining outside at night would be nice. Customer service here could improve. We were the only diners there for quite some time before our server checked in on us. The kitchen also took awhile to get our food out to us. We weren't sure why since there were no take out orders to our knowledge. It also took us awhile to flag our server down to ask for the check. I'm not going to complain because most Thai restaurants aren't allowing dine in at the moment due to COVID-19 so I'll take some service versus no service. Here is what we ordered: #7 Fish Patties (5/5) #14 Yum Woon Sen (5/5) #34 Duck Curry (4/5) #68 Clam Stir Fry (Not Available) #64 Fried Fish with Sweet Chili Sauce (3/5) Our eyes were definitely larger than our stomachs because we had a lot of leftovers. Sorry for the crappy menu photos I posted, but the lighting at the table and the plastic folio were not conducive to non-reflective reproduction. The menu is laid out in an organized pattern and grouped by style (for example "stir-fried"). What is interesting is that I believe all of the offered dishes are predominantly $12 each for regular protein, and $14 for seafood. The exception to this pricing scheme is the appetizers and side items. While I forgot to take photos of the dishes we ordered, the menu has a photo of each dish which appears to be pretty representative of its actual appearance. OK, I was hungry so didn't remember to take photos. Again. Not having dined-in for a while because of the pandemic, I was pleasantly surprised at how many parties were actually dining-in, since the restaurant just opened. The tables are adequately spaced for social distancing, so it does not feel crowded at all. We ordered green curry with chicken, pad gra pao with three fried eggs, nam tok beef salad, and pad ki mao. And one sticky rice for Roger, and jasmine rice bowls for Alan and me. There was a slight issue with our order. Instead of bringing us one fried egg for each of us, the waitress though we wanted three orders of pad gra pao. Of course we did not send it back because this is my favorite Thai dish, and I greedily and easily ate all of mine with half of my jasmine rice. They brought the fried eggs a little later, and mine was almost perfect, runny yolk and all, though Alan said his was over-fried. FYI, in Thailand, they have mastered the art of frying an egg in a wok. They use a lot of oil in the hot wok which they spoon over the egg as it is cooking, so the yolk remains runny, the white is congealed well, and the perimeter of the egg is browned, airy and crispy. And for some reason, probably the high temperature of the wok, the egg is not oily. French style all yellow no brown eggs this is not, but Thai eggs taste way better, IMHO. The green curry with chicken tasted fine, and Alan remarked it was thicker than at most other restaurants. Having cooked green curry myself, I have learned that a hallmark of Thai curry is to scald a portion of the coconut milk so the oil separates from the solids, so you have a sheen to the dish. Although this dish did not have that distinctive sheen, it did not detract at all from the flavor. The pad ki mao, also called by its nickname Drunken Noodles or Drunkard's Noodles, was more like pad see ew, which is also a favorite dish. This pad ki mao was drier and not as wet as I was expecting, but still had a good flavor. The waitress had not written down our order of nam tok beef salad, but we cancelled it since we had more food than we could finish. This forgotten order was not an issue because I would happily eat a whole dish of pad gra pow instead of sharing it three ways, and trade that off for any other dish, any day, any place. Anyhow, the food portions were just a tad smaller than at other restaurants, but did not detract from the experience. Also, the dishes came out a little slow, but hopefully we can attribute this to start-up expediting issues. I remember dining at this location in its previous incarnation as Thai Garden Cafe about three years ago with Roger and Alan. The parking and access are identical. The interior is upgraded and there are many design elements and art throughout the space. The dining areas are fragmented, being broken down into separate areas, as if this were a house which was converted into a restaurant; this actually works very well for social distancing. And the food is great tasting. And being one of only a few Thai restaurants open for dine-in during the pandemic, I'm sure I will be here again soon. read more

I ordered the summer rolls, which was okay but nothing spectacular. The peanut sauce was okay, a little too watery for my liking. I also ordered the drunken noodles with tofu with medium heat, extra sauce and extra veggies but it wasn't spicy at all and there were no extra vegetables. Outdoor dining ambiance is fantastic--comfortable and unique seating; breezy with a little sun and a little shade. There was a nasty green liquid that looked like maybe some sort of artificial coloring, the seafood was lacking, and the curry was far FAR too sweet. We couldn't even finish it there was just far too much sugar or some sweetener in it. For the cost, we felt this was far below acceptable. When I went to red elephant, I immediately remembered how Keo's Thai cuisine was in kapahulu. He was like a small version of my favorite old restaurant. I immediately felt like I was in Thailand. The decor has a lot of Thai things, including the furnishings. The food is authentic and delicious. Proportions are not as large, but it is good when you share family style. I like the Currys and the fried food in the noodles as well. The staff is friendly and kind and I truly love going here. I wish that it was open for more hours. read more

I understand the whole thai thing with sitting on the floor to eat. However, chairs were invented for a reason and if u are gonna have couch sitting at least make it comfortable. Took forever to get seated in an empty restaurant. Food did not come out together. I got pad Thai with beef but I think they cook all the pad Thai together cuz I had bits of tofu and chicken in my food. Food was alright but I won't be coming back. Tasted like ketchup with some bits of mung beans sprinkled on it with loads of crushed peppers in one corner and a little bit of crushed peanuts in the other. The curry was no better. There was hair in it but this was after the disappointment from seeing this old, stale rice that came with it. It looked better than it smelled. The icing on the cake was the spring rolls. The shrimp was raw. Very raw. Everything was just way overpriced. I read reviews about this place thinking it would be okay, especially since it looked nice.
