My now order: General tso extra spicy with white rice (or fried) and an extra side of veggies. When I say their general tso is soooo good! Extra spicy does not make it unbearable at all. Heads up - the veggies are pretty much just steamed so there isn't much seasoning or sauce at all. However the portions are very large. I ate on this for two days! I looooove any and every kind of dumpling, so when I saw this place had a drive through, I knew I had to have some as a snack. This restaurant is located in a small shopping mall in Madison. They have a fairly large menu of typical Americanized Chinese favorites as well as Bento boxes, soups, appetizers, etc. The drive through makes them somewhat unique -- big fan of that. I was asked to pull into a parking spot and wait rather than it being handed to me through the window, so I initially was worried I'd be waiting for a while, but my food came out quickly and it was obvious it was made fresh, considering it was so hot I couldn't even touch it at first, haha. I went basic and just ordered an appetizer of fried dumplings, as it was too late in the afternoon for any real kind of lunch. They did a great job frying them -- they were super crispy on the outside but tender on the inside. I'm not sure exactly what the filling consisted of -- it was mostly vegetables, and I think a little bit of chicken, but I was munching as I drove and didn't take note of too much specifically one way or another. Sadly, the flavors were all sort of nondescript and nothing really stood out. The dish came with small plastic cups of a soy based dipping sauce, which was also fairly generic, with mild sweet and salty flavors. I'd be careful before driving off, as they were in the styrofoam box with the dumplings, and it would be devastating to have it spill and get all soggy before you got home. I didn't dislike these dumplings (I've never met a bad one), but I probably wouldn't order them again. This restaurant is not near my frequent haunts at all, but I'd consider trying a different dish as they have so many positive reviews. read more

Truly the worst Chinese food I have ever had in my life. The combo lo mein was incredibly flavorless. The meat was barely perceptible as beef and chicken. The shrimp were ok but weirdly breaded. The only good thing about this was that the broccoli was obviously fresh. The steamed dumplings tasted like they were made from frozen, straight out of a bag from the freezer at an Asian grocery store. At a little over a dollar per dumpling, I could have bought the entire bag and been much happier heating it up in my hotel room microwave. The side of fried rice was an absolute joke. It was literally white rice that had soy sauce dumped on it. I could have done that myself. Complete waste of $5.80. If this food had been free, I would have chosen to go hungry. I only ate it because I spent $40+ on it. I'd like to say that at least my order was ready quickly, but I don't think that is a good thing in this instance. My wife and I called in a take away last night. Cashew Chicken and a Chicken Fried rice. While I was at the pickup window, I asked the young lady how's business? She said not good. I said hang in there. Things will improve. After getting home I understood what the issue was. In our case the chicken fried rice was bland and the chicken strip seemed boiled and undercooked. The Cashew Chicken lacked flavor and had very little Chicken. I did like the Vegetables, but I had to add Sambal pepper sauce and lots of soy. Red Fish is in one of the worst possible restaurant locations in Madison (formerly Philly Connection subs). It's a small unit next to Windmill beverages and generally hard to see from the street. They have renovated the inside with some stone work and fresh paint. The decorations are sparse but it seems clean. I had the beef teriyaki bento box which included edamame, an iceberg lettuce salad, fried rice, a California roll, and a drink for $9 out the door. The beef was served hot and optionally included mushrooms which I found flavorful and enjoyable. I was pleased with the quality and value. They have table service for inside dining and our waitress was exceptionally friendly. The restaurant is setup so you can watch the cooks prepare your food and they too were friendly. Everyone on staff seemed to be trying hard so I think if enough people can actually find them they have a good chance at succeeding. I would go back. read more

It was not a very good start. I got there and one of the servers had a long phone call order using the computer. Everyone was just standing waiting for here to get done. Another server could have taken the stand-in orders to get them going but they just waited until she was done with the computer. Food wise, the lunch box was pretty good. My mother-in-law had been craving Chinese food and since we were back home for Christmas and she has health concerns and doesn't get out during the pandemic we got some from this place while at my brother-in-laws house. When it comes to Chinese food, there is only one thing I get and that is General Tso chicken. For me, when you make General Tso, if it doesn't have a Tien Tsin chile pepper anywhere in the dish when it gets in front of me that means you didn't make it right. My wife and I ordered our five year old general tso with lo mein noodles. He was happy and actually ate more than half of my wife's teriyaki chicken from her bento bowl! We tried the tso and were impressed. It had a nice crunch to it, but wasn't over fried and greasy. The chicken itself had excellent quality as well as the noodles. I believe we found our new favorite spot in the Huntsville/Madison area. This place blows Taste of China and Rice Box out of the water. There's even a drive thru/pick up window on the side.
