I've been coming to this Red Ginger since they opened. The decor is modern and sleek and tonight, they had a piano player who took requests. We weren't seated at the most comfortable table, but this is probably because we were a large group with a toddler. Our waitress took a long time to get to us, but once she did, she was pleasant and attentive. The food was so pleasing to the eyes and tastebuds. Extremely good, very authentic Chinese dishes if you order off the Traditional menu. We've only had the Singapore Noodles and the Snow White Prawns off the standard menu and both were excellent. Traditional menu items are probably not items you've heard of although some have been added to the regular menu Lovers Beef and Tofu Ma Po are very good and pretty spicy hot which I like. The Tofu Ma Po is my favorite dish here and I consider myself a Foodie. The service is pretty good but can always improve. They do a great job here and you won't be disappointed. read more

The mushroom soup is good when they have it, graces seafood soup not so much, it lacks flavor for a dish packed full of stuff. Well, this was the one really disappointing experience we've had, but I can't avoid being honest. While my husband's house fried rice was made to his total satisfaction, my sushi, 'little kiss' and the (fresh) salmon and cream cheese rolls were an abomination. The little kiss roll was extremely greasy and seemed overcooked. I'd asked for the Japanese mayo on the side, but believe that the chef forgot that, and let it melt in, then topped with smelt roe. The Mayo was on the side, but this was NOT even a good roll. As for the (fresh) salmon and cream cheese roll, it was extremely sloppy. There was an excessive amount of rice, poorly sliced, and uneven proportions of ingredients. I also asked for extra wasabi, low sodium soy sauce and two fortune cookies. I received none of the above (the second time this has happened to us, with delivery service). When I called to explain this to 'Grace', she explained that there was a new sushi chef covering this evening. She offered to give me a complimentary salmon and cream cheese roll on our next order. That's the only reason I gave this a 2 star rating. Please, please Red Ginger, get it straight. I/we love your restaurant, but quality checks ARE necessary, even with a typically high average level in reviews. We want to continue doing business with you, but something needs to happen. This was my first time visiting this place! It is tucked away inside the Melbourne Square Mall, and it is quite a hidden gem! Walking in, the atmosphere is very sleek and upscale. The decor is nice, and all of the servers are very nicely dressed. We were greeted promptly when seated and our drinks were brought to us very shortly after. I ordered the egg drop soup to start off with and it was some of the best egg drop I have had. The Krab Rangoon app was also very delicious. For an entree, I ordered the Red Ginger Spicy Chicken and it was extremely flavorful! Over all, I would def recommend this place to anyone looking for quality Chinese food, and I will def be back! read more

As a native Chinese and a vegan, I was very happy to find fresh, plant-based options here. After two pleasant visits, I'm very upset to have to write this negative review. I enjoy supporting small, local businesses. I walked in and placed a to-go order on a slow Sunday evening. The young woman at the counter was friendly and took my order. I asked for a half order of fried rice off the VEGETARIAN menu, an eggplant dish, and vegetable dumplings. This came out to $29, plus a tip I left... On a to-go order. I waited for about 15 reasonable minutes for my order to be brought to me. I even opened the stapled paper bag to check that everything was in there. After counting it all, I drove home excited to eat. Upon arriving home, I lifted the lid to my fried rice to see that there was shrimp, pig bits, egg, and what appeared to be chicken pieces. Horrified, I called the restaurant, and they offered to make me the correct vegetarian version. Annoyed that I have to leave my hot food at home to drive all the way back to the restaurant, I'm even more disappointed that nothing was done further to remedy this cruddy situation (no partial refund, no extra veggies, no size upgrade, etc.). Way to treat your customers after making the error yourselves! Glad to have driven back and forth for 25 minutes just to have the rest of my food lose its freshness and heat. Accidents happen; I get it. However, this was a complete waste of my time and money--rice, and a small amount of broccoli, peas, bean sprouts, and onions are not worth the $7 I paid. I would not recommend red ginger to my worst enemy. I have placed delivery orders three times with them over the last few months and all three times it is come in correct. The first two times I just let it slide this time I called in Grace the owner said it wasn't basically her problem I need to call DoorDash and DoorDash could give me a credit because it takes too much or two weeks for her to get her money so she hasn't been paid. She did not offer to fix the problem I returned the food I called DoorDash and thank God they called me back because COVID-19 has really shut things down. DoorDash was wonderful they gave me a full credit 5 to 7 days and they're going to give me a five dollar credit for the future. I will never do business with red ginger again. We've always enjoyed our meals at Red Ginger but our visit last week was horrendous due to the service. We were seated when the restaurant was relatively empty at around 5:30 pm, with the bartender being responsible for taking care of us. It took 15 mins to get our glasses of water, a visit to the manager to let him know that we were ready to order and another visit to even get the complimentary wonton strips. Things only got worse after that as our 1st appetizer didn't come out until 40 mins after and the 2nd 50 mins later only after another visit to the manager. The manager tried to justify the slow service due to there being a party of 10 being ahead of us. But as I tried to explain, another party came after us and they had already received their dinners when we didn't even get our 2nd appetizer yet. The appetizers were simply their chicken wrapped in lettuce and scallion pancakes. No justification for these 2 simple appetizers to take 50 mins. I tried explaining the situation to the manager but he seemed irritated that I had the audacity to explain things. With 3 kids (ages 7 and under) and 4 adults being hungry after such a long wait, he just kept repeating the party of 10 causing the delay. If the restaurant can't handle that size then I would suggest that they get less tables or limit the number of customers they have at any given time. We've been to this location 3 times prior to this visit so we were extremely disappointed with the service we had received. I had hoped that the owner, Grace, was around but this time she wasn't since she might've understood our situation better. We ended up walking out in frustration and headed to another restaurant close by. Maybe our order eventually made it to the table but I highly doubt it considering how the manager was adamant how the whole restaurant was at a stand still even with it being more than half empty. The food is ok but stop by at your own risk as you may or may not get decent service at best. For us, this is the last time our time and money will be spent at Red Ginger. read more

Nice atmosphere. Sushi was nice but was not what we expected from the menu. Come to find out the sushi chef had a different version of the menu, while the guests had another version. We brought our concern to our waiter and she was not receptive to our confusion on the ingredients that were missing/added to our rolls. Went for late lunch/2pm on a Sunday. There was hardly anyone there. We waited a bit to be seated even though the host was sitting right there chatting to coworkers. We had no silverware and waited a long time for everything because no one was checking. The service was absolutely horrible and my server only had about 2 other tables. I heard the table next to me say, we have been here 20 mins and still haven't gotten our soup. The food was just ok. My son spit out his chicken because many pieces were chewy. Second time going there, once for lunch and had the red gingers spicy chicken which was very good. Recently went there for dinner and had the lemon chicken, the dish felt weird as if something was missing. The waiter was no where to be seen, not even a busy night. 10 minutes later, almost done eating, what I suppose was the manager comes over and jokingly says "would you like some lemon sauce with your lemon chicken? Ate here for the first time today. Walked in and sat at the bar. The bartender immediately greeted me and got me started on drinks. The bar was a little sticky where I sat down, and one of the waitresses was hanging out near the POS on her phone and giggling. A little annoying. Ordered the yellowtail and spicy salmon roll. Seems like the woman that was rolling the rolls is either new or inexperienced. Neither of my rolls were completely closed and almost fell apart on contact. I watched the manager stand behind the sushi bar and stuff his face full of food at one point. Pros: Nice and swanky atmosphere, full bar, quick service, good prices Cons: Undisciplined/unprofessional staff, lack of attention to detail, food quality and presentation left a lot to be desired. My husband and I went to Red Ginger because he wanted some good hot pot. We started off by being seated and immediately asked what we wanted to drink although the lack of any drink menu on the table or menu made this difficult for us to know what was offered so we decided to stick with water. We decided to start off with some shrimp fresh rolls. The rolls were not what was stated on the menu. We received rolls filled with mixgreen lettuce and tomato. Strange. The server forgot the peanut sauce which was no big deal but when it got to the table and we tried it it tasted exactly like that gross bottled peanut sauce that any generic la Choy brand sells in stores. Bleh. After 15 mins later our dishes came. My husband was really excited to see his hot pot come out after the wait, but after he saw what it was, was immediately disappointed that this dish was nowhere near the real hot pot dish and was instead just a sticky sweet sauce with lamb, eggplant and bell pepper. My dish was the pineapple shrimp, which just tasted exactly like a takeout dish, except with a $10 upcharge. We also noticed everyone else getting complimentary wontons and sauce at their table and we never got any. Bummer. I am giving Red Ginger two stars because I liked the taste of mine because it tasted like trashy American style Chinese takeout. I will never return and instead will save $50 and just go to a takeout spot. read more

This is a great place to come at lunch time, very quiet and not busy. I thought the staff was very polite. In regards to the food, I ordered the "Ginger Chicken" I wasn't very impressed with this dish, I was really hoping for more flavor with the chicken and I wasn't a fan of the fried rice or egg rolls (the fried rice was a little crunchy and the egg rolls were more on the sweet side and not a lot of cabbage flavor). I did however think their wonton soup was extremely delicious and would honestly come back just for that alone. My boyfriend got one of their sushi platters and was extremely impressed, he said it tasted very fresh. He also was a huge fan of their hot tea. I have eaten here several times now and each time I have enjoyed my experience. Even though the restaurant is located in the Melbourne Square Mall it does not feel like it from the inside as it has a nice quiet atmosphere. The food is a far cry from the typical mall fare as it is of the high quality you would expect from a good sit down Chines restaurant. I've been a loyal customer of Red Ginger for many years. This one experience has brought me to a point of posting this review. I had ordered a takeout of Lemon Chicken and some Fried Rice on 10/20/2017. Picked it up and it was without the sauce and poorly prepared (fried chicken was yellow, not golden...under cooked and sloppily presented on old lettuce). Didn't notice until I got home, no big deal. Called the restaurant and they downplayed the problem and said come back and they'll give me sauce. Meanwhile, the meal is getting cold at home. I asked if they would deliver and I got a sigh and a very frustrated "yes" from the head waitress. She said the meal would be comp'ed. BTW, she said she was the manager on duty. OK, waited a full 30 minutes for the sauce to arrive. Now food is cold, delivery was rude and dinner was poor. Checked my debit account, no comp, no nothing. Called a couple of days later and spoke to another person (not a manager nor the owner). I was assured the owner would contact me. To no surprise, I've heard nothing more, my debit account has not been reimbursed, and my opinion of Red Ginger has gone from a 5 to a 1 simply due to the lack of contact from the owner to resolve a simple (and inexpensive) problem by a quick phone call. Disrespecting customers simply because you feel you have enough customers is no way to conduct business, Sir. I would discourage anyone from patronizing this establishment. They have no concept of proper customer service. Jimmy/Grace, if you would like to have me update this VERY negative recommendation, you know how to contact me. I doubt you will. UPDATE: I was contacted by Grace and the issue has been resolved. It was a failure of communication between the owners (Jimmy and Grace) and us. We have come to an amicable solution. To be clear, my experience with Red Ginger has always been good, but this one failure of customer service unnecessarily escalated to where it is. Don't be fooled by the fact that it's in a mall, or that the main menu has the usual "Americanized" dishes. This place has real deal Szechuan. Just ask the host(ess) for the traditional Chinese menu. My goto dish is the Dan Dan Noodles (extra spicy), and the Hot and Sour soup is the best I've ever had. Do yourself a favor, bring a large party and order family style with several shared dishes. We have been here twice since moving to town. EXCELLENT food. Friendly staff. Everything we have tried is great. Healthy too. Not much fat or heavy sauces. The Orange Shrimp is awesome and I also enjoyed the Chicken in Ginger Sauce. The Pineapple Fried Rice is good and not fatty at all. Hubby enjoyed the Egg Drop Soup and Teriyaki Chicken. Really good.
