My wife and I visited for brunch with a friend who had been here on numerous occasions. The best thing about this place was the view. You were up close and personal with the Hudson River and a view of the Mario Cuomo Bridge. We had reservations for 1130 and we were glad we did because the place filled up quickly. The most disappointing thing was the brunch menu or lack of. There was not much of a selection. 6 items. No fruit options. A couple of egg options, French toast, Avocado toast, Ham, and a crab cake sandwich. However, they do offer their full menu. We were all very disappointed in their lack of selection. On a side note, one of the staff members had a hygiene issue and unfortunately he was serving our waters and refilling the glasses. Each time he got close or passed by, it was unbearable. After you order, they place one very small danish cut up in pieces on a plate for you to enjoy while you wait. I ordered the brioche French Toast with blueberry compote. Really? Where are the fresh blueberries, strawberries, bananas? Not offered. No side dish came with it. I ordered a side of bacon but there was an upcharge. My wife ordered an omelette with spinach and cheese and breakfast potatoes. Our friend ordered from the full menu and had the smoked salmon sandwich with fries. Each of us ordered coffees. My brioche French toast came out burnt. Two slices. I paid $10 per slice. $20 dollars for two slices of bread. I was happy they gave me real maple syrup. It had minimal blueberry compote which made me happy. The bacon was cooked nicely and very tasty. My wife enjoyed her breakfast potatoes. She said they weren't greasy. However, she thought the omelette was smaller than normal. Our friend enjoyed her sandwich. The portion of her fries was very generous. As coffee snobs, we would say the coffee was very good. However, the 4 oz. cups they serve were much to small. We needed to ask on a few occasions for refills because nobody was coming around. A very expensive and disappointing brunch. I've been wanting to try red hat on the River for some time now but due to covid they were closed for some time. Finally got to go this past Sunday for brunch. I've seen beautiful pictures of the view from the restaurant and it didn't disappoint in person either. We sat inside unfortunately due to the rainy weather, but it was still pretty nonetheless. The inside reminded me of an old school speakeasy/banquet hall. They have a few other restaurants in the same area and there's a large parking lot so you'll be fine finding parking. To get to the entrance is like walking through a little maze to get through, as you have to walk around a small courtyard of brick buildings. They have two levels in the restaurant and a nice big bar that sits right in the entrance of the dining area.The wait staff was also very nice and attentive. I started off with the French onion soup, and ordered the egg omelette for my meal. The French onion soup was amazing- I'm not a big soup person but French onion is usually my go to and this one was amazing. My omelette was a bit on the drier side, I will say it lacked some flavor but it was a very big portion and very fluffy. The brunch dishes also come with a side of potatoes but I also found that too be a bit dry. The egg dish was ok, I will def come back to try other options on the menu but the place was beautiful and the rest of the menu looked great. read more

Superb Valentines Day Lunch We dine at Red Hat every so often and have come to understand its strengths and weaknesses. At base, the Red Hat is a cafe/brasserie that does a great job of serving wonderful drinks and American/French comfort food in a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere. And if that is what you are looking for you will not be disappointed. This time I took my wife to a lovely Valentines Day lunch. We started with a green vinaigrette salad and some frites and then shared a hanger steak. Everything was delicious. On the drinks side we had a very tasty Cosmo Mocktail and a draft IPA. The atmosphere was perfect and the service more than acceptable. But I give a special shout out to the Red Hat for not requiring us to order two 'prix fixe' meals for us to enjoy lunch at the restaurant on Valentines Day - we had leftovers as it is. read more

Well during this visit ( been there before) its Covid time and we are all trying to stay safe but support local businesses that adhere to the new normal. The tables were not sanitized after customers left, the waiters while wearing masks and gloves, touched my cell when i showed the menu and we are, whhhhhhaaaatttttt.. Patrons walk around the outdoor venue without masks, between tables and nobody says a peep to them. This is crap and unacceptable. We already waited for 40 minutes and sat on a corner of the outdoor patio away from everyone else but saw this and kept nodding... Food Wise, we ordered the Paella, the Beet Poke, and a few drinks and apps to share. The drinks are good, I mean really good and each is around $15 a pop. After years of living in Westchester, glad we tried out Red Hat. As part of their name suggests, this is one piece of hot real estate with a stunning Hudson River view. Red totally gave me an adrenaline rush with the brick and subtle industrial edge going on. Man... I was all in it! Plus almost head to toe windows, brought in all that beautiful Sunlight. Made mid-week reservations in hopes for a weekend Brunch but they were maxed out. So Dinner it was. Was told seating downstairs is first come-first serve, but we actually sat right by the window overlooking the Hudson. Honestly, kind of wished we sat upstairs to get a different angle of Red Hat's layout right below. Red- had us covered when it came to their food. Everything from Seafood options for me, Vegan tweaks for my daughter and my husband with Meats......we were all good. Oh- and by the way.....Red's Cocktails are dangerous!!! But service was less than ideal. Thought our server wasn't all there and bypassed us several times when we needed her attention- and her other tables were served before us. I'll admit: I like having my plate cleared as soon as I'm finished with eating and these busboys were fast on their toes and waters filled to the max- and felt that their service outshined our server's! All of our meals were good and Dessert selections all sounded great- and in the end, a Valrhona Chocolate Flourless 'Cake'- made the cut. I liked the subtle French twists: from their windows, to the food, down to their yellow walls. I'm so sure that Red Hat, strives on stellar service. And maybe our one server had an off day and her dull demeanor was just a small piece of the puzzle and she doesn't represent the whole equation. The food was okay. We ordered steaks with it being medium rare and only one came out to be the right cook as the other was overcooked. The fries are delicious. The drinks could be better and adding more to the menu would have been interesting. The value of the food vs the quality isn't up to par and somewhat a disappointment. We asked on the reservation to hold an outdoor view and they said they will honor it. When we got there, it turned to a first come first serve and would have to wait 45 minutes to be seated. The dessert was really good. The keylime pie was delicious. The service was terrible. Took almost 45 minutes to get our drinks, then to have someone come by to get our food order took another 45 minutes. We ended up spending 4 hours there. 2 hours mainly to get orders done. And then we can see when some individuals/servers from the business are mocking some of the customers. That's as tasteless but I won't let it reflect the rating of this place. Came here last (Saturday) night with my wife for a socially distanced dinner. They're not currently taking reservations for outside seating (first come first serve), however, you can call them and they'll give you a general wait time before you head out to the restaurant. Last night they told me there was a 90 minute wait around 8pm when I called. However, when my wife and I got there at 9pm, we were immediately seated right by the water with amazing views of the city and the Cuomo (though it will always be Tapanzee to me) Bridge. Our orders were put in immediately. For drinks, I had the cucumber gimlet and my wife had a martini. Both perfectly made. We ordered the Salmon Tartare as an appetizer and the Hangar Steaks, cooked to perfection, for our entree. No complaints at all about the food. The ambiance. And certainly not the service, which was absolutely amazing. All of the staff were masked up and taking extra precautions to keep everyone safe. No way I could give this place any less than five stars. The people I do see complaining and leaving lesser stars are those stuffy types who generally complain about everything on Earth (and probably only give Earth 2.5 stars as relative to the rest of the universe), and are never satisfied with any establishment even after speaking to countless managers. Recently had dinner here. The ambiance indoors is very nice albeit loud. Service was also very good. But let's get to the food. We started with a burrata and tomato app. It was presented on nicely seasoned and toasted crostinis. The oil was flavored with herbs and the cheese was delicious. We also ordered scallops and the bone in sirloin/frites for our entrees. The scallops were nicely done but the steak was a bit of a disappointment. Although done medium as ordered there was too much fat and it was under seasoned resulting in a lack of flavor. The steak was pre-cut, not my preference. The frites were over done and a large portion were tiny crunchy pieces which should not have been served. For dessert we had profiteroles which were delicious and included candies nuts and raisins which enhanced the experience. Overall a very nice meal. Next time I would take advantage of the outdoor seating along the Hudson River. read more

This place has been on my list since I moved to Westchester last year. I took my husband here for his birthday and I'm soooo glad I did! We both really loved it and can't wait to revisit especially in the summer. The views are beautiful and food is excellent. As an appetizer, we shared the crab cakes. They were perfect and the sauce they were paired with was delicious. I had the Spanish Paella Risotto as an entree. The portion was pretty large, I took half of it home! I really enjoyed it. My husband had the Sesame Crusted Tuna & Hawaiian Beet Poke. I'm expecting therefore could not try the Tuna but was amazed at the beautiful presentation. I wish I took some photos. It was my first day of Hanukkah ever with my better half's fam, and it started off with a bit of a belated birthday brunch for her mom. As soon as we walked up to Red Hat on the River I was instantly won over by this artsy French Bistro that housed many red hats, and I was ESPECIALLY won over by their outdoor pier seating that elicited an immaculate view of the river and had me longing for warmer days. It was the perfect opening to the overall satisfactory experience that followed. Service had a couple of hiccups overall, but expected and reasonable ones for a group of 10+ with 4 kids. And the restaurant did take extra care with the planning for the occasion and provided us with a personalized pre fixe menu experience that was a good touch. When you're in French bistro with a good wine list during brunch time it's normally customary to go with something that isn't a beer. but being the UnTappd snob that I am I had to go with the one draft that they had, which was the awesome Wrench hazy double IPA from Industrial Arts. When you roll in smart couple style you order two different things and switch off half way. So for apps I got to enjoy the perfectly pan fried crabcake that combined Maine peekytoe and chesapeake bay lump crab with some spiciness and good flavor; and the incredible French duck rillettes with a pork confit, delicious green peppercorn mustard, cornichons, pickled red onions, and lightly toasted baguette squares. For mains we both went the sandwich route and split the Mackee with its smoked Atlantic salmon and smoked bacon on baquette, and Italian bacon egg and cheese that sandwiched farm fresh egg, pancetta bacon, a blend of parmigiano & fontina, and kale between toasted ciabatta bread. While neither of the bread choices won me over I definitely enjoyed what was inside even if the salmon was a just a touch too salty for me. Dessert is mandatory for a birthday, and we definitely enjoyed our key lime pie and profiteroles. With such a good meal overall I'd definitely come back on a warm weather visit to enjoy the full menu and bask in the sun by the river. read more

My wife and i came here for linch about 6 months ago and it was ok, last night they were the only restaurant in the area that had a table available without a reservation. We were sat quickly and the waiter came and got drink orders quickly, delivered drinks and took app and main orders. Apps came out, along with our son's chicken fingers and fries. I got french onion soup and my wife got nonas meatballs. My soup was gross, the onions were sliced, diced and minced almost like it was a hodgepodge on left over onions made i to a soup. There was an over bearing smell and flavor of red wine, but it was like the wine wasn't reduced. The cheese was slice of Swiss that was placed on the hot soup so it wasn't really melted, it was oily and half solid. My wife's meatballs, it was 2 small, aprox 1" size meatballs with a dollop of regatta cheese on top. They completely fell apart, were extremely bland, the sauce tasted like chef-boy-ar de sauce, and the regatta was as bland as could be. Overall gross. Our son's chicken fingers and fries were very good! Well seasoned and cooked perfectly! For our mains my wife and i ordered steak frites, i ordered the hanger medium with chimichurri and my wife ordered the ribeye with peppercorn sauce rare. Or mains came, hers was drenched with a foul smelling sauce and i could tell mine was raw, almost blue. When my wife cut into hers it was well done. I notified the waiter and he said he would get the manager, after a 15 minuet wait the manager came to say he would get us another order that there was a mixup in the kitchen. I explained that we didnt want them that i didnt want to wait another 20 minuets that overall the food we got was not good. He saidhe would comp the whole bill, at that point we had 2 glasses of wine, chicken fingers and fries and our apps, i said cancel the mains and ill pay for the rest. 10 minuets laters i got a bill for $120 and when i added what we ordered it should have been $80. I questioned it and he said it was his mistake, at that point i was quite annoyed with the while situation and felt i should not pay for the meatballs as she didn't eat em they were gross and it was $21. We settled the bill, he comped the chicken fingers for our trouble, he then commented he dosent make anything on the chicken fingers, nice comment. Overall i would stay away. A glass of house cab wine was $18 a glass. In my opinion, their rent must be astronomical, they don't have a main chef or executive chef and they're cutting corners to make ends meet. The decor and environment is very nice, staff is nice and attentive but the food is gross and lacking especially at that price point. Theres a reason the place was empty on a Friday night at 7pm when every restaurant in the area was packed. read more
