Love this local restaurant, especially the bar, its very cozy and the bartenders are very friendly (shout out to Jordan) the food is amazing, never had a thing I didnt love. My faves are the mac n cheese, the burger and my numero uno... the smoke and cheese! Oh...and I almost forgot the chicken wings! OMG .. there are bar specials on those..check it out! Went to The Red House for apps and drinks. My family has been raving about it so since we were in town, why not? All 3 apps we got were boring, mediocre and just plain awful. We had the mean beans which were tolerable. The black bean dip had ZERO flavor and they gave us about 10 chips! The cheese quesadilla was similar to one you'd get in a high school cafeteria. Updating to 4-Stars after going last night and ordering an absolutely banging Cuban Sandwich from their specials menu. Homemade mustard put this sandwich over the top, it was so good we asked to take some home with us. Also tried the wings and they were great as well, although a bit pricey at $1.75 a wing. I've eaten here before on several occasions. Had their burgers which are very good...juicy but always a bit over cooked. The buns are very good and soft. I've also had their jambalaya which was tasty but not spectacular. Tonight I had their brick chicken and opted for turnips as a side as opposed to mashed potatoes. No problems from the kitchen with the substitute. The chicken was absolutely perfect. Brined in lemon, thyme and rosemary. Cooked absolutely perfect. The turnips and carrots were roasted and drizzled with a balsamic glaze. I honestly could eat that dish twice a day forever. read more

We had no business in Deep River, it just happened to be just off the highway on our way home from a day of apple picking and corn mazes. My wife found this place on yelp and it was close enough off the highway to give it a shot. When we pulled up, I have to say I was a little skeptical... plain looking front, didn't look very busy (was an off time of day) and was hard to see inside. We walked in off the street with a party of 8 including 4 kids and the hostess and manager (owner??) could not have been more inviting or happy to help. Our waitress was a hot ticket and I settled in to a flight of beer and got down to ordering. EVERYONE was happy with their food. Take a second to think about that: 8 people, 4 adults, 2 boys (12,13) a 10 year old and a 5 year old and not a single complaint! That, alone, is worth 5-stars! I won't carry on too long, but I'll just say that the "best chicken sandwich" actually lives up to its name! Perfectly fried chicken with light breading, delicious pimento cheese sauce and a pepper jelly on that bun- - - OMG! Pro-tip, pair it with the truffle fries and look out! The bill for 8 people came and we were shocked to find that it was what my wife and I would normally throw down for a date night at a chain restaurant for just the 2 of us. Always have a good meal, I just wish the service staff would stick around and all be nice. Bad news is some of the staff is a little grumpy but the good news is that you never usually see them again. It would be nice if they could get and keep some service staff so that you could get the same waitstaff and have the recognized sort of hometown spot. My friend and I dined here after a great show at the Ivoryton Playhouse, it was wonderful. Our waiter, Jordan, was fantastic and a joy to talk with. From our cocktails to dessert, every bite was wonderful. The beet salad is a must have next time. Went to the Christmas train ride and looked around for lunch. This place is 5 minutes away and worth the ride. The food was excellent. We ordered the bbq for 2 and the steak frites plus several sides. Everything was cooked perfectly and the staff was extremely friendly. Go go go! Moved here in January and found this little gem a few blocks from our apartment. Coming from living in New Haven, my husband and I were so excited to have a good "foodie" restaurant in our town. The service is great, the whole place has a sweet hospitality small town feel. And, of course, the food is wonderful. I've had the friend pickles and okra - they make their own homemade ranch and you could literally drink it. I've also had the Red House burger! Delish and great toppings. My father-in-law came for a visit and he had one of the salads. Loved it! I haven't had anything bad yet on the menu! It's a must see! read more

We had dinner at Red House last Wednesday and were very impressed by practically everything they had to offer. The atmosphere was great, the food was phenomenal, the service was timely, and the beer selection was top notch. We tend to go out to dinner a few times a month, and really get bored of the same old burgers and chicken that most places offer. Red House really takes the norm and put a twist on it that makes it fantastic. The pulled pork was tasty and not fatty...which to me is a big plus. The Fried Oyster Po' Boy was perfectly done and extremely tasty. Portion size was not a concern either.....between my wife and I, we turned our leftovers to the next day's lunch. I would highly recommend a visit to Red House for anyone that is sick of the same old burgers and chicken. Next visit, I'm thinking I will try the ribs and a few more of their specialty drinks. read more

Had dinner here with my wife and daughter last week, seriously the best service we have had near the shoreline in CT. Our waiter was extremely on point, and if he seemed to be busy another waiter would come over to check up on the table. My family and I took a Sunday drive through Chester and Deep River. We are so glad we found this place for dinner the food was exceptional. The menu was very creative and everything we had was delicious. Wedge salad corn chowder duck tacos which was a first for us! We also got a side of mac and cheese and shared a chicken sandwich for dinner. We were too full for dessert but we will definitely be back to try more of the amazing menu! read more

Horrible experience tonight. After one hour on a Tues night our food still hadn't arrived. When I asked the waitress for our check, she said the food would be right out. I told her the table next to us came in after we did and they had already finished eating. She said there had been a big order ahead of us and that is why our order was delayed. After five more minutes and no food I again asked for the check. That was the only thing that came promptly, along with a $5 discount on our next visit. I gave the coupon to the manager on the way out. I doubt there will be another visit anytime soon. read more

Service is less than mediocre. Food is so so. They are not willing to do what is necessary to keep the customer happy. I was in there the other day and when i asked if i could get their Red House Wings (which come in a pack of 10) and have the 5 buffalo and 5 Chili sauce, the bar tender replied with " No the kitchen is a bunch of divas and wont do anything if its not on the menu" I felt this was extremely unprofessional and because of that i did not order any wings. They were not interested in keeping the sale so i did not give them the sale. Another time i was in there with a girlfriend and we ordered Guacamole, we were having a nice conversation so we were eating a bit slowly. In the time span of about 30 minutes, several people came over and tried to take away the appetizer. I dont know if they wanted to go to the back and eat it or if they were so ready to get out of work that they were forcing us to eat faster. it was extremely uncomfortable and ruined the experience for us. For what is on the menu, the pricing is a little high. The food isnt extraordinary. What is really disappointing is that The Red House is very close to where i live so i could frequent there very regularly but with the experiences that i have had with the "Divas in the Kitchen" and the staff forcing me out the door i will make the trip to somewhere a little further and avoid this place. read more

well we went there tonite. the place was very busy and yes the menu looked like a fun burger and sandwich style menu. very pleasant and friendly staff - got our drink orders promptly and answered our menu questions we decided to try a salad and sandwich plan - so one of us got the brisket sandwich and I got the salmon sandwich - we shared the goat cheese salad the cornbread they bring to the table is very tasty with a sweet spicy butter the salad was freshly prepared and fine - but my last warm goat cheese salad I got at another eatery was made with warm goat cheese "patties" - this one was prepared with a less dense goat cheese so more like a warm pudding consistency on top of the salad - good but not great then out came the sandwiches - the brisket was way too dry for one and the salmon patty was so dry I could not even swallow the small bite I took they graciously offered a substitute and I chose the fish tacos - and they were yummy - spicy grilled fish with a fresh salsa on top - served with spanish rice and delicious baked beans as sides they comped me my meal - so that was thoughtful and unexpected - and I will probably give them one more try before making a complete judgment - So go ahead and try it - but select carefully from their menu oh yeah - great fun way they decorated the old du glace space - all "rocker and roller" style giant portraits on the walls where the large Paris style murals used to be. looks like they have music lined up on the weekends! read more

After reading all the good reviews, I was really excited to try this new local restaurant. Let's start with the reason's we would want to go back; 1. they have the best clam chowder, I've ever had. Now, the reason's NOT to go back; 1. I had read a review that said the brisket was dry. When I asked the waitress if it was in fact dry, her response was, " I've only served 2 of them before and no one complanied. If you think they are dry you can always put some BBQ sauce or mustard on them, or maybe you should just order something else'. 2. What restaurant serves soup without crackers? If you have a "soup of the day", you should have crackers. 3. While the waitress took our order, she apparently had an itchy upper chest, which she scratched and scratched right in front of us. WOW 4. My husband asked for a straw for his iced tea. When she finally remembered to bring it to him, it was UNWRAPPED and she was carried it across the restaurant in her hands. 5. I had the "shrimp po' boy. The roll it was served on made it difficult to eat as a sandwhich, so I ended up eating mostly only the shrimp. There was almost everything left on the plate. Instead of the waitress saying 'was everything okay', she just looked at the plate and said "do you want me to wrap any of this". Except for the Clam Chowder, the food was nothing special. The service, just so happens to be the worst I've had in a very, very long time. read more

I was really excited to eat here tonight. 30 minutes in I still was not asked my drink order. It proceeded to go down hill from there. Food was very good though. So much potential. I have never had service this slow ever. If for any reason you were short handed, or backed up in kitchen, tell your guests, we would be much more understanding. Would really love to see you succeed. I personally LOVE the Doctors Brisket. The decor is fun, food is great, restrooms are very clean, the staff is friendly and attentive. Price isn't cheap but not too bad either. My husband and I can eat for under $40. I also love that they make everything fresh. read more
