This is a great spot if you love tannin filled Tempranillos; heavy tannins make the wine taste bitter and slightly acidic. I love a good jammy red, a bold cab, cab Franc, syrahs (in general). I've had a few Tempranillos that I've enjoyed, but not here. Maybe pour them through a Venturi or something to get the bitterness out and soften the tannins. The tasting (4 wines) was $12 per person. The average bottle on the tasting menu was $42. I didn't even finish my tasting *personal preference* The grounds are beautiful, looks like a great place for a picnic. All was good. The moment we crossed the quaint one lane bridge over the river and saw the grounds, a sense of calm came into our vehicle. We parked , located a private table in the shade, and decided on refreshments. Food... My wife selected a mojito and the artichoke dip plater. The flights here are on not guided but they are more than willing to answer questions. In the summer they have a Frose option and a wine cocktail as well. This vineyard was recommend to me but honestly it was a tad disappointing. The service was on the cusp of being brisk, despite it not being very busy. The layout is bizarre: tasting room is nice but good walk away from the river where the IMO the better view tables are located, next to the Applegate River. The picnic tables are not level, which makes it a bit of a challenge to keep the wine balanced. There are other tables closer to the tasting room, but no views. Tasting itself came in test-tubes, kinda fun and with a glass. We had a flight of 5 for $10, reasonably priced. However, we were not impressed by the wines. read more

While Red Lily was a little farther drive out than I was thinking, but was for sure, well worth the 20 minute drive. Beautiful grounds and tasting room. Wine flight was wonderful and a great value too. My favorites were the 2017 Tempranillo and a Chardonnay...forgot the year. We also enjoyed the pimento cheese plate and cup of tasty tomato soup. Everyone working was so friendly and took the time to make us feel welcomed and not at all rushed. I cant wait to return with friends, who I know will fall in love with this wonderful winery. This is my favorite winery. Family friendly, even my kids love it here! Lots of lawn area for them to run around on. They have the BEST carrot coconut soup. We drive from Grants pass to there just to have it. Favorite drink by far is their rose' mojito! They have concerts during the summer. Summer Thursday concerts are back on! Check out the website for times & dates. Great changing food trucks each week. I real treat for families but a great community feel for everyone of all ages. The kids love to run around & dance but are well behaved & super pleasant as a rule. The parents like to hang with friends & drink beer & wine. Still a lovely elegant but casual vibe for older people & the childless & free. I'd advise to come early if you want a table or a spot by the water in the shade but they do put out quite a lot of tables. Large grassy area too which is more sunny. Many people bring blankets & their own folding chairs. Parking is pretty easy. read more

One of my favorite wineries that we stopped at during a recent trip to the Jacksonville area. The main building is absolutely gorgeous and spacious. The grounds are well maintained and beautifully green given the temperate weather in Southern Oregon. We were greeted quickly and got several flights for our group. We told them which kinds of wine we favor and they tailored the flights a little for us. The prices were very reasonable. Lovely and knowledgeable people are working there. :) We grabbed our wine and headed outside and down by the creek/river that runs nearby. There were plenty of chairs to sit in and the day was absolutely beautiful! I could easily spend an entire day sitting in a comfy chair, reading a book and enjoying the sound of the water. In fact, there was a woman sitting near us with a glass of wine and a book....that's a smart woman. As it was, we sat there for a few hours and were very reluctant to leave. The sound of the water is quite soothing and the atmosphere is really conducive to having a nice relaxing time. The next time we are in the area we will definitely be returning to Red Lily. The wine, atmosphere and their knowledgeable and friendly staff definitely made a positive impression. We can't wait to return!! read more

We were sent here by a local and had high hopes for this winery. Unfortunately we were met with the woman selling the wine reminding us that they would close in 30 minutes from our arrival. [Luckily, however, the wine IS top-notch!] A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT Much like Castello Di Amorosa in Calistoga, CA in Napa Valley - which is a giant castle with a winery - Red Lily Vinyards is the kind of place you really want to see for itself, because the SETTING of the winery in this instance is almost the driving factor for your visit. Gorgeous landscaping, fronted by pastures and a river, with a wine-tasting area with deck-chairs & umbrellas set along the "beach" of the river, this is the perfect chill spot to come and drink a bottle of wine with perhaps even a cheese, bread & meat plate. I tend to latch onto one wine in particular and will make that my purchase point (and it's wonderful that Red Lily allows the wine flight fee be applied to your wine purchase. In this instance I got their 2005 Madrone Mountain Late Harvest Gewurtztraminier since I am partial to sweet dessert wines, because a "Gewurtz" is a fabulous sipping drink to have on a hot day (and at times I even love to splash some on a small mountain of Vanilla Bean ice cream in a bowl). My wife and I celebrated our anniversary here tasting their decent wines which they serve in test tubes - how unique to a science teacher ;) Not many places to allow you to roam about for the tasting much less dip your feet in the water while doing it (see picture). We had a quick and extremely disappointing experience with this winery. My girlfriend and I were in Grants Pass to visit some friends for the weekend and we were all out winetasting this past Sunday. We knew that red lily closed at 5 o'clock and we pulled into the parking lot at 4:53 PM. There were people outside at the picnic tables and I walked in and there was at least two or three tables of people inside still. I was approached by someone and was told they were closed. I said we didn't want to taste but we just wanted to purchase a bottle of wine and share it outside at one of the picnic tables. At that point a lady from behind the bar yelled " what do you guys want" I reiterated to her what I had just told the other employee next to me, I said we just wanted to purchase a bottle of wine and take it outside and her response was and I quote " we're closed, you need to leave the property" I was quite shocked at that response, we need to leave the property? So I asked to use the bathroom before we left and was denied that request as well. I understand people wanting to get out of work but if you're closed at 4:53 PM then don't advertise your closing time 5 PM. Needless to say, I will never go back there but our friends who live there were very embarrassed and said the same thing. Oh my gosh. What is better than a rich Cabernet sitting along the side of the beautiful Applegate River. Scenic CHECK! Great wine selection CHECK! The wine was delish. As long time visitor to the Applegate Valley, it has been fun to watch the ongoing growth of it's wineries and vineyards. On a recent trip, we stopped by Red Lily and were very glad that we did. There are three reasons why we recommend Red Lily Vineyards: 1. The grounds are building are simply stunning. Be sure to take time to relax by the Applegate River. There are picnic tables and loungers... yes... loungers like you would find at a luxury hotel pool. We bought brought our Labradors. 2. The people are warm, friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed meeting one of the owners and as well others on the hospitality team. 3. The wines are simply delicious. Really... some of the best reds we have tasted in Southern Oregon and some of the best domestic tempernillos we've tasted period. The wine list maybe short, but... wow... they are good sold at a very fair price - no winery owner ego driven pricing here. We even joined their wine club - which means we will be dropping one of our other wine club memberships to make room for Red Lily. Note: While we found Red Lily child friendly, especially down by the river, you would want to keep a close eye on younger kids for safety reasons. read more

Really great place to spend a sunny afternoon by the river. Their rose is succulent and full bodied... definitely not your typical rose! They have other offerings as well and a lovely charcuterie plate. Picnic tables are available as well as individual chairs so you can pull one down the river's edge and cool off. Digs: Like the countless reviews...strangely swooning over the setting. It is gorgeous - they even have an event center a hallway away from the tasting room. Crossing a quaint river then leading to sprawling green hills and a wooded building well manicured that nearly sweeps you off your feet. Drank: We sipped a flight of some sort; sadly this is where the fairy tale ends. Out of the five tastings the four of us in the group could not find a winning glass. None of them had personality and some were unbearable. It was a huge letdown from so much sparkle. Service: Another depressing manner was the staff; uneducated on their wine - even though I'm a toddler when it comes to the wine world of notes and grapes. They felt cold and nearly frantic from the flow of traffic coming in. An army of pouring and getting people in and out. Final Thoughts: It felt like a wine corporation that was pumping out bottles for money not a local spot where time didn't matter just the wine.
