We ended up booking the Red Lion as there were no other options in the Kelso area that had availability during a baseball tournament weekend. Although we saw the reviews, we didn't expect it to be this terrible. Upon entering the hotel room, it smelled as if it hadn't been cleaned in a while. From reading the reviews prior to booking, I took it upon myself to bring cleaning supplies such as bathroom cleaner, disinfecting wipes and disinfecting spray. There were stains all over the carpet and chair. I started by wiping down all of the surfaces to which I found to be very dusty. I found a sharp (looks to be from A pocket knife) sitting on the night stand. The lamp did not work. I started spraying down the bathroom vanity, sink, shower/tub and toilet. There was hair and dust. I didn't grab a photo because I was super grossed out- but there was poop dried to the toilet seat. A toothbrush was behind the mirror- opening the closet we found a dusty shelf and a moldy kitchen sponge. The fan in the bathroom was covered in dust and hair and was impossible to clean. It's our fault for booking even with the reviews. The utter lack of sanitation/cleaning with it being such a popular area for sports families to stay is unsettling. My husband and son slept on an air mattress with blankets from home as they did not feel comfortable sleeping in the beds/sheets. NO NO NO. I'm a fairly understanding/responsible person, but when there is toilet water from the room above, pouring (not dripping- pouring) down on my head while using the restroom, I draw the line. My biggest concern is that there was minimal regard for my family's wellbeing while lodging in this establishment. We chose the hotel for a large group of families coming to town for a sporting event. One of which immediately checked out upon arrival due to previous occupants underwear being left in their room, and grime on the hard surfaces. Another had to purchase their own cleaning supplies due to fecal matter on outside of the toilet AS WELL as the walls surrounding. There was black mold in the ceiling of another, requiring them to switch rooms. The front desk response to most of these concerns was either "what do you want me to do about it," or "that's not my department or decision to make." I asked for a manager multiple times, to which they responded each time: "we don't know when he will be in." This is not the care, nor service that I would come to expect from such a well known name hotel. This hotel use to be so beautiful. Many major activities and celebrations took place in the ball room. Education and seminars i often attended. I just can't imagine what happened. The hotel ownership is barely holding on. It's a huge piece of property that yelp has the WRONG map location. They're offering sweet deals, but the property is falling apart. My friend and I were going to be checking in late like 3am late. I put that specifically in the notes when I booked on their website. I got a confirmation of my reservation. We get there at 3am and get told I believe we canceled your reservation.... the reason I give 3 stars to service she honored the price I booked it at as I am a rewards member and have AAA. But I did not get any notification at all saying my reservation was canceled, and it didn't show up in my account. The room was gross it needs updates but also could just do with a very good clean. There was what we hope was lint all over the bedding. The heater did not work. The room was cold, and the buttons on the air controller does not work. You turn the switch to on and it is freezing dirty smelling air. The entertainment center in our room was falling apart and rotting from the fridge leaking. There were stains on the bathroom door that definitely was not something I wasn't to touch. You could also see the ceiling leaked in the bathroom at some point. I am so disappointed in this hotel. Making reservations was easy and the price was good. Too bad that is the only positive that I have about this place. It started off with the keys not working. Ok, that can happen, no big deal and got new keys made that worked. The room clearly had not been serviced well prior to our checking in. There were random springs around the room on the floor. The smoke detector in the bedroom (we were in a parlor suite) was missing the cover and from the condition of everything else in the room, I have my doubts that it even works! The flip lock on the door busted first time we tried to lock the door. It was clear from the outside of the door that someone had tried to break into the room in the past as their was chisel marks on the doorframe by the lock. This made us very nervous. I immediately went to the front desk and let them know. They promised to have maintenance there first thing in the morning to fix it. That night when we returned, it had not been fixed and it was made clear to us that they didn't intend on fixing it. We had to do the chair under doorknob trick to feel safe-ish in the room! There were 3 of us sharing the room. I requested that bedding for the pull out be provided. I assumed before I went to bed that it was in the closet like it usually is. Nope! My friends ended up using the couch pillows that were on the pull out and froze that night. They asked for bedding again in the morning and we were assured it would be there. Again, nope! I get back to the room that night and again, no bedding, no pillows, nada! I call the front desk and was told that they had no idea where to find it. I heard one of the other people at the desk tell her where it was and they said they would send it up. After about 45 minutes, I called again as it had not been delivered yet. After about an hour, it was delivered. 1 thin blanket! No pillows, no sheets, NADA! The room was not serviced at all during our stay and it was clear from the behavior of the staff that they just don't care. The apathy of the front desk was really sad to see, if the front desk staff can't be bothered to show any concern about the guests, how bad is it behind the scenes? THEN to make things even worse. They billed me TWICE for the room! I tried calling the hotel on Monday and left a message. It is now a week later and still have not gotten a call back from anyone! There are tons more hotels in the neighborhood. I will be staying at another one in the future. So sad that this place has fallen down so low. read more

After check in, we entered from the mid entrance. The doors on this entryway were broken to where anyone could enter at any time. Red flag #1. Our room was spacious with 80s decor. The furniture was heavily stained, the air vents into and out of the room looked like they haven't been cleaned in years. Ceiling tiles were missing in the closet exposing wires, and hvac. There were stains, and what looked to be blood on the bathroom lights. It was enough for us to immediately turn in our key card and walk away. They can blame their lack of cleanliness on staff shortages all they want, but if that's the case, close the rooms until they are at least somewhat clean. read more

She was a nasty sarcastic rude individual that was a pain in the ass to deal with and 100% foul person unprofessional rude sarcastic and completely lacking any kind of customer service skills not up to date at all with today's standards of booking such as Expedia or trivago when we booked online she was genuinely upset and voiced her opinion and didn't actually know how to process our reservation. Booking sites often give people problems while trying to navigate their system which is what happened to us causing us to be late in reserving the room for the following day instead of dealing with it professionally she kicked us out on our heels and called the police on us at like we were common trespassers although we had been staying there for two weeks.. she said that we had become a nuisance and she laughed at my girlfriend's disability and service dog after trying to charge us a pet fee which a service dog is exempt to she laughed and said this is getting stranger by the minute. I don't know I feel like hotel staff should be the superstars of customer service and this lady is genuinely lacking any type of customer service skills and she is a foul individual and I wouldn't recommend anybody deal with her or book room through her wait till the p.m. shift and deal with them they're much nicer. read more

This place is on parr with the usual cheapo corporate hotel experience, and I certainly didn't expect any better than that. However, when the hotel offers less than my extremely low expectations, I make a note to never come back. First off, we chose this hotel because it had a pool and hot tub...hot tub was broken which we didn't know until we walked out to enjoy it. Our key cards didn't work well, the chair in our room was filthy..but all that is normal for hotels in my price point. No problem. The usual. On the upside, the youngster loved the pool! Here is why I won't come back. We paid $15 extra for our small dog, yet no accommodations are made and in fact, you are penalized. You cannot take the dog into the giant outdoor concrete pool area (we had him settled and quietly snoozing under a chair but were told we couldn't do that by a passing employee). I get that you cannot take dogs in the actual swimming pool. But I cannot leave doggy in the room alone, so I guess you are delegated to sit the room with dogster and pays $15 for the priviledge. Other hotels will quietly let you take a well-behaved pooch in the pool area if he/she sits quietly under a chair (even if official rules say no). That seems fair and reasonable since, essentially, pooch is a paying hotel guest. And lastly, they don't offer the complimentary low quality breakfast we have come to "enjoy" as part of the chain hotel experience. Instead we are supposed to pay another $30 ($10 each...even for children I guess) for the exact same low quality breakfast offered for free at similar hotels. So if you add in the $45 extra (pooch and breakfast), we possibly could have gone to a slightly nicer place with cleaner chairs, a working hot tub and the usual crummy breakfast included in the price. read more

We can start with the dirty room, water on the floor, bathroom door that doesn't close, mold in toilet, and questionable cleaning service, then head over to the fact the smoke alarm is in the DESK DRAWER, completely disabled. Then we can add that I was given a room surrounded by other travelers with DOGS. The reservation: I made my reservation through Expedia. Unfortunately Expedia has old hotel pictures back in the heydays of this hotel because the hotel does not look anything like in the pictures. The hotel: When we got to the hotel the first thing we see is a torn window curtain in an upstairs room. The hotel looks old and dilapidated. It sure needs some updating on the outside. Before I go inside the lobby I notice so many printed signs like there's no Hot Water the boiler is broken. You can cancel your reservation without a cancellation fee. (I could have cancelled but where would I have gone? Will the hotel staff help me look for another hotel? I think NOT!) Breakfast: They have a small continental breakfast consisting of coffee, boiled eggs, cold cereals, milk, pastries and juice. They had a small selection of alcoholic beverages for purchase. The room: When my sister and I stepped inside our room the first thing that comes out of her mouth is "Is this HOTEL HELL? Where's Gordon Ramsey?" I thought that was hilarious but true non the less!!! As other Yelpers have mentioned the room did smell like an old closet. The beds looked like someone had slept in them! What the heck! The carpet was disgustingly dirty. We had to immediately go to the nearby Target to buy some cleaning wipes and some air freshener. My sister got the idea to put a car vent freshener and place it on the air conditioner vent which worked like a charm to make the room smell fresh. The pool: The pool was more like the poop! It was disgusting with murky green water more like the home of the Swamp Monster! The pool is closed however looking at it was more like cesspool! The Hot Tub: Was also a murky green disgusting mess. The Covid-19: The Inn is somewhat Covid-19 compliant. There's hand sanitizer in the lobby. The conclusion: There is no daily cleaning if you're staying for more than 1 day. You do have to request cleaning in the front lobby which they conveniently forget to put it on their cleaning list of rooms! Then you don't get your room cleaned regardless if you requested it. You have to leave your dirty towels and trash bags in the hallway. Since I needed clean towels I had to go after the housekeeper for clean towels, trash bags and more shampoo and conditioner, so basically I had to clean my room! If I wanted to do that I should have just stayed home! That's why I'm paying for all the services! I also noticed that the housekeeper's supervisor was talking down to the housekeeper that was cleaning the other rooms!! How rude is that!! I felt bad for the housekeeper too. I put 2 stars because the lobby staff and housekeeper were very nice. I really wanted to give this place the benefit of the doubt, unfortunately I have to agree with all the other reviewers they gave this place a low rating. Anyone considering a stay at this place should pay attention to the reviews. This place is disgusting. You would actually be putting your health at risk. You definitely wouldn't want to let your children stay here. My husband, my two children, and I, recently moved and we had one last trip to make to the area. We decided to stay the night in order to split our task up within 2 days rather than cram it all into one day. The only place that had rooms due to the baseball tournament was red lion. I'd never heard anything good about it, but we figured it's just one night how bad could it be? Well, the answer ended up being, HORRIBLE!!! When we arrive the woman at the front desk went through the rooms before she could put us in one because a lot of them were not cleaned or had a maintenance issue. We finally were told we were set in room 223. No elevators. So, we carried our travel suitcase, etc., up the stairs. The room was smelly and one bed looked to be no bigger than twin sized. I was tired and wanted a shower then the idea of getting some rest for the night was such a relief. Well, the shower just spit water in all directions as it had never been maintained. What a let down. The hotels were rough and scratchy. I took that in stride and was so exhausted that sleep was still my motivation. After I was done, I let my youngest son get in right quick as I prepared my other son to get in next and after my husband would get in then we'd all go to bed. A simple plan with the reward of sleep for the night. Well, it wasn't meant to go that way, apparently. As I was preparing to get cozy in bed(as cozy in bed as I could get being the sheets were worse than towels) I shook the top blankets and found a dirty sock on the bed. Someone else's sock. Wth?! No way housekeeping missed that. Then, my other son waiting for the shower asked "is that a tooth?" Low and behold on the floor by the trash was what appeared to be a rotten a$$ tooth. My husband said it looked like a burnt piece of popcorn to alleviate the disgust and my anger now with the place. But wait, there's more. At this point, I'm telling my husband we need a different room. He goes down to the lobby and told the woman what was going on. He returned with what she referred to as "fresh bedding." I guess the answer to our problems were for us to clean up what housekeeping did not. Still infuriated my husband noticed a big crawling on the bed my sons were going to share. That's it. Different room that better be clean or we're making a drive. After dating no time we're available she offered one they had been keeping on stand by, I suppose. Now. We're moving a few doors down. We get there check the bed thoroughly and the trash cans, floors. Then we pick up where we left off and start progressing to the next two shows left. Everyone is showered, even though you still feel gross in this place, we start laying down and before I close my eyes I decide to take that before slumber,last pee for the night. Well, it was after midnight now. So, he fine with that and go to flush the toilet and by this time it didn't surprise me that there is another problem. The toilet doesn't work. At this point, I'm laughing and enraged. A whole new level of anger. My husband is now trying to fix the toilet just to get us by a few hours until we check out. He's successful, but it's mediocre at best. Not something you'd chance for anything other than pee. We're so tired we finally go to sleep. Thinking about the people who are actually going to eat breakfast there. Gross! We left this place that morning with haste. We were so relieved when we arrived home and washed the filthy feeling off. I've stayed in worse places, but I haven't paid over $200 to stay in a worse place. Turns out the lion is just red with embarrassment by being associated with such a low quality place. This is a sprawling hotel right off the freeway. I'm sure it once was nice, but those days are in the rear view by decades. The staff that greeted me were friendly but extremely casual and dressed like they picked up the first thing they saw on their floor after they woke up. They also appeared to be understaffed as they groaned and complained loudly every time the phone rang. While I can share the weariness as being overwhelmed, it doesn't give me any confidence in my stay when staff are complaining about their jobs before I even get to my room. It took 15 minutes to get checked in because the staff and patron in front of me had a very long conversation about hair dye while another staff just stood to the side and joined in their conversation without helping me check in. After check in, we walked to our room through a cavernous hallway smelling strongly of air freshener with an undercurrent of something worse. The air freshener was so strong it was cloying so I guess I should be grateful they recognized the need for it. When we got to the room we found our keys didn't work - back to the front desk where I was told there was a trick to opening the door and was advised to just go back and do that. Nope. I have a beard, but I'm not a wizard. The lock either works or doesn't. I was accompanied by staff back to the room with a master key where, SURPRISE! the door lock trick didn't work after all. She let us in and promised to be right back with the rekey. (she wasn't). The room was big - far bigger than a newer hotel would grant - but with stains on the carpet and furniture and a toilet bowl stained with rust (which initially looked like something else). Some ceiling tiles were stained as well. There was no coffee maker (despite the listing indicating there would be one) The beds - all things considered - were surprisingly comfortable. We made a bug check to be sure and found none. (as other reviews have indicated they had bugs in their room, things I should have looked at before reserving the room) There was a continental breakfast which seemed dodgy. The cost of the room certainly taints my review, but the entire experience was just off. This hotel needs major cleaning and major renovations and it's clear the staff don't have pride in what they do or what they represent. This hotel needs some serious upkeep and a deep cleaning. When we made are reservation, we thought were talking to the actual hotel. We later called the same toll-free number since we decided to extend our stay. Instead, they booked us for a 2-night stay on a different itinerary number and never cancelled the reservation for the one-night stay. They refused to refund us for the reservation for the one-night stay saying that we were a no show, and per hotel policy they would not refund me. I only knew because one crawled on a pillow right next to my face, I went to the front desk and recorded my conversation with the receptionist and she said they put us in a room that was out of order for the bed bug problem. We arrived late in the evening last week, the woman at the front desk (night staff) was extremely rude and made no conversation, we were skipped over in cleanings so when we arrived back after a long day, we came back only to go back out to grab towels, there is no in room coffee maker, and worst of all.. not only did I have to kill two spiders in the room but three of us woke up covered in BUG BITES. Would give this less stars if I could, went here on a school trip and this was the most disgusting experience I have ever had in a hotel and I've been to some sketchy places. One room had a ball of poop on one of the chairs, the rooms smelt of dead animals, mold or cigarettes, bathrooms were gross, no clean towels, and sketchy people coming in and out, mostly creepy men watching the girls like hawks. Lesson learned, read reviews before booking! Pictures lie. First sign of concern: (1)upon check in we were told our room is on the 2nd floor and there is no elevator! Ok, so lets drag our luggage and goods up the stairs. (2) the door to our room was "janky" and I do mean "janky" practically off the hinges, you either had to slam it shut or use extreme muscle strength to counter push to prevent slamming it. I of course went to report this to the front desk as I didn't want to be charged for this, the desk girl mumbled something about a maintenance request, I also asked for some cups for the room, they were the size of a dixie cup! (3) Pool side, well lets just say this place has no grounds keeper or house keepers, next to the COLD jacuzzi was a broken bottle and an empty wine bottle, I mean who brings glass around a pool anyways, whom ever did it was kind enough to place a small table over the evidence. Again found myself at the lobby desk, reporting the broken glass and cold jacuzzi. Disappointed in my relaxing pool time, I retreated to the room, as I resting on the bed going thru my phone I decide to open the bedside table drawer and found an empty beer bottle next to the bible, I laughed and snapped a picture to send to my friends whom were still sunning at the pool. Then I leaned on my side only to find another empty bottle of beer statically placed up in the lamp, now I LOL and again send another picture. When my friends 7 year old returns from the pool I ask him to look under the beds, well not surprised but he counts 3 more empties, oh and a pair of socks. Of course I again visit the front desk, the girls don't seem to surprised or concerned and no offer to fix it. We did however at this point ask for clean sheets...LOL. Fast forward to the next morning when I found a loofa hanging in the shower, not ours!! We decided to check out the complementary breakfast with hesitation of course. When we got down stairs to walk into a flooded lobby and the guy preparing the breakfast foods was also the guy using the wet vac to attempt to suck up the flooding water which seemed to be coming from the lobby restrooms, at this point I was like, "I am going to McDonalds next door". I could not make this stuff up. Whom ever owns this place better figure it out, or burn it down. Its hard to find good help or help at all if you don't take care of your employees. After finding all this in the two rooms I stayed at, the hotel manager refused to talk to me. I was told I had to wait until noon or I could email. I suggested she reach out to me. Never heard a word. I have never had such a scary hotel experience. Manager was awful as I finally had to call her and was told she would give me one night reimbursement. What about my $160 drug test I had to get. This place needs to be shut down read more

---WARNING-----BEWARE--- This hotel will overcharge you, the staff is a pathetic joke and since this is an independent hotel Red Lion Corporation will not help. Sam told me to quit calling and get over it about being overcharged. Not a safe Hotel, 30 minutes to check in. This morning i let the phone ring, calling the front desk for 20 minutes, no answer. Very run down. This hotel was nice 30 years ago, not now. If you have kids watch out, we found old candy on the dirty carpet in our room. No Elevator, and they left a pile of towels IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STAIRS for hours. All the doors to go outside are wide open all night so anyone can wander by your room at night. Air conditioner was broken...oh and i was overcharged $40. Avoid this place. I am currently filing a complaint with the BBB. RUN FROM THIS DUMP! UPDATE....After filing a dispute with my bank, my bank went to bat for me and i got my money refunded. Beware of this Horrible hotel and even worse staff. read more
