The front desk said breakfast was 6:00 to 9"00. WHAT A JOKE@@ Nowhere does breakfast close at 9:00. Left a furious message for the manager. So, we ended up going to IHOP for breakfast. The lady who checked me came across as someone who hated life. The hotel reminded me of a maze. It's complex enough that I was given a map. When I walked into my room I immediately thought, "Welcome to 1998." Yes, there were two fixtures that were more 2008, but overall, meh. The carpet had plenty of stains. I dared not use bare feet. When I went to the eating area for breakfast the next morning I was surprised that it wasn't included. What?! At the price they charge per room, they should include breakfast. Even Super 8 includes breakfast and they tend to be dives. My bed was horrible. The pillows were good though. Their cable TV connection was horrible. The picture was quite fuzzy. I gave three stars instead of two because I didn't find any bugs in the room. read more

As a stopping point halfway through a 17 hour drive, this hotel was great. I was greeted at the front desk by a very friendly person at the front desk and was given a free bottle of water. The room was nice, big tv, nice shower, and a comfy King sized bed upgrade for giving them my email. I'll definitely make this hotel my preferred stopping point when i drive through again! read more

Customer service was great - Christina at the front desk was very professional and nice. The pool area was well-maintained. Sadly, that is where the pleasantries ended. The property is dated and worn. Carpeting throughout hallways is stained, worn-through and ripped. Scuff marks up and down the hallways and dirty carpet trails lead to the maintenance rooms. Puddles were on the floor near multiple vending machines. Our room smelled of recent and age-old cigarettes. The drapes and smoke detector were stained yellow from past years of the in-room smoking days. For the price ($146 for one queen bed) it was very disappointing. read more

My husband and I had a free one night stay for this hotel (raffle basket item in a school fundraiser). I called the front desk and booked a room for a Sunday night, a queen bed on the ground floor. When we arrived the front desk upgraded us to a King bed. It was very quiet, as it was a Sunday. The room was spacious. The bed was comfortable. The small patio area was nice. Good towels and toiletries. The Three Shastas Bar and Grill was quiet, but the bartender was friendly and served a great berry lemonade drop. read more

My wife and I booked this hotel through priceline for my birthday last week. I was nervous to use the priceline negotiator because it didn't let us choose the hotel we stayed at. So before we got there, I was apprehensive. When we arrived, the lobby area was nice and cool (since it was a rather warm day for march in redding). The seating area while waiting for the people in front of us to check in was nice and comfy and they had a business section right as you walk in for easy use if needed. I was a little irritated that there was only one person at the front desk on a friday afternoon at 5:45pm but then another person came out and helped us. From there, my frown got turned upside down in a real quick hurry. Evan who was the gentleman who logged us in was one of the friendliest people I've encountered in the service industry. MY GOD he was nice. He asked for my ID when we got to the counter and noticed that it was my birthday and wished me a happy birthday (brownie points!), then asked us if we had any preferences for rooms. I asked for something upstairs facing the pool. For the rate we paid on priceline, it would have gotten us a queen bed, ground floor, facing the freeway. But, Evan hooked us up, got the king bed, facing the pool and balcony. I was VERY pleased with this customer service. he gave us very easy directions to our room and explained what was available that night as well as the next morning. I really felt like a VIP with how good his service was. As long as Evan is working at the Red Lion, this will be the only hotel we stay at when we go on our semi monthly date nights to redding. This was also the first time I'd ever stayed at a Red Lion before and if the others are run as good as this one, they've found a customer for life! read more

I thought the hotel was a great value for the money. The beds were comfy and room had some size to it. I really liked that the slider opened up to a green area with lots of trees and a yard like setting. It was also close to the pool so my son enjoyed that. Customer service was friendly and overall experience very nice. The only downside was that the hot tub was spraying water from the jet and leaking all over the pool area and the shower could have been cleaner. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone with families, business or single. read more

I stayed here Wednesday night. I chose Red Lion because of the chains reputation. In this instance the price was more than reasonable, and while I wasn't disappointed with my stay, this hotel is beginning to show it age and wear. The room was nice, but the a/c was really loud and had a hard time cooling the room. I probably would've given this a 3-Star were it not for the staff. Red Lion should really be proud of these folks. If for that reason alone, I'll choose this hotel the next time I'm in Redding. read more

I stayed here over the holiday. The bathroom tiles were broken along the edge of the shower, but overall, the room and bath were extremely clean. The room itself was a bit musty-smelling. Room service came EARLY (before 8 am, and I forgot the "do not disturb" hanger on the door), but overall, everyone was friendly. I didn't partake in any of the amenities outside of the room, so I can't comment there. Worth the $70 an night I paid through priceline, but nothing spectacular. read more

When you step into this hotel, you can tell that it is a very old establishment and is in need of a bit of upgrading. The hallways smell stale and everything feels a little sticky. On one of the nights, there was a very strong scent in the hallways like someone had burnt popcorn or something. I couldn't put my finger on it, but the smell was intense. Thank goodness it hadn't permeated into our room. If you turn on the A/C, the staleness goes away pretty quickly. My room was pretty clean. I did my due diligence and examined the mattress and bathroom and there were no bedbugs. The bathroom was pretty clean when you take into the fact that the building and all of the fixtures are very old. The carpets look like they have stains on them, but you can't really tell because of the dark color and the patterns no the carpet. Needless to say, I wore flip flops in the hotel room just to be safe. The bed was pretty lumpy and softer than I prefer, but I think that's because the California King sized bed had a pretty big mattress topper. My room also had a microwave and mini fridge, which was a pleasant surprise. I was very weary of coming to this place based on some of the negative reviews, but it turned out fine. It wasn't as disgusting as some people made it out to be and the ladies at the front desk were pleasant. I booked this place last minute and wanted something cheap, so I was not surprise or disgusted by what I got. If you are spending most of your time outside exploring the lakes and parks nearby and just need a place to sleep, Red Lion Hotel should suffice. read more

I used to love this place, but the last few stays have been terrible. I've finally learned my lesson and won't be staying again. Turns out I won't be getting any sleep again due to the extremely loud music coming from the bar (yes I'm on the other side and can still hear it as if I were sitting in there). Not to mention lots of loud and drunk guests slamming doors. The plus side (the reason for 2 stars) is that it is clean and in a good location. If you want to sleep, I'd go somewhere else. read more

Update: I originally gave the hotel a 1 star. I was contacted by the sales manager and she offered to give us a free night and free breakfast at their restaurant. It's nice that they are willing to accommodate customers this way. Original review: I would have left a very good review had it now been for the encounter in the morning with housekeeping. At 8:20 the morning of checkout there was a light knock on the door - could barely hear over the TV - and then someone trying to get in to our room. Of course panic sets in because my husband just gets out of the shower and my 3 year old is running around as I am trying to get him dressed. It's housekeeping. I open the door and ask them what they want. She is extremely rude and says "you didn't have the do not disturb sign on your door." Why would I? Checkout isn't till 12! So of course now we are feeling rushed and pissed off. I have NEVER had this occur. We go down stairs to complain and the lady and the counter is also rude. She says "well they start checking rooms at 8." Ok? Then why isn't this told to us upon checkin? She just gives us a card and says "here call her - some lady for sales." So we will see how that goes as she's not in at 8:30. This could have actually been a nice stay as the room was nice and the bed was comfy, but the inconsideration and rudeness of the staff is unacceptable. read more

Our car broke down en route to Portland, and the Red Lion happened to be the closest hotel that wasn't a Motel 6 (I'm a princess). We rolled in around 9 and the front desk staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. The room was big and clean with a comfy bed and sliding glass doors that led to the courtyard. We went down to the hotel bar to have a drink and there was great live music. The bar staff was nice, but we felt a little rushed. My only other complaint is that they tried to charge us an extra $20 for their breakfast. It seemed excessive to us, especially with restaurants in walking distance. Overall, a great find for our unfortunate circumstances. If I ever need a hotel in Redding again the Red Lion will be first choice. read more

When we first checked in the room given to us when we walked in smelt so badly of smoke and was filthy beds not made trash everywhere so we went to front desk and said we need a new room please . We found all the rooms smell of smoking and are so outdated we stayed here while on a business trip and we went 4 days without our room being changed out even though we called front desk everyday and asked for our room to be cleaned and we needed fresh towels and toilet paper. Front desk said they would let housekeeping know and that never happened. Then the housekeeping was out side our room and we asked for clean towels and toilet paper and the gal said we weren't on her list!!!!!?? She said I need to call front desk to get on the list so I did again and nothing happened. The next day the housekeeping came to my door after I called front desk again pounding on my door asking what do you want!!!! She made excuses and excuses and was hostile she said she doesn't have the staff and then oh Cal fire is here but I made her aware I was here way before cal fire and the situation was still the same . I will never stay here again we did go to front desk before check out and left a message for the manager again who never returned our calls to date and our staff will never stay at this hotel again I will also be contacting corporate. I called at 5pm to ensure my reservation because we plan to check in at 10-ish. We got there at 10:30 tired from driving and they said we have no reservations and that maybe its the other red lion. I panicked so they called the other red lion hotel. Still no reservations. I check my email since it was already paid for. I insist they check what happened and said someone already checked in. I insist for an investigation who checked in(they should have an id/ card) they insist no other rooms available. I patiently ask what happened. They said no one is in the room. In the end we got the room... the following morning, they said breakfast is not included. We say check the file and they still say no. We show our booking and they finally allow us to eat. The property and hotel is not bad we know what we are paying for. But the service?!? Wowww just wowwww read more

We called at 10pm last night and needed a room after checking our mom into the ER. We got David on the phone and every other hotel was sold out. We got the last room and though it was a little pricey we had a bed to stay in. Upon checking in we asked David for some curtesy amenities because all of our stuff was still on the houseboat with the rest of the family. Good hotel at great prices. We got a terrific deal from priceline and decided to stay here during our trip to Lassen National Park. The lady at the reception seemed pissed off at the start, but a bit of conversation helped and she turned out to be friendly and helped us out and adjusted the reservation so that we were booked together. The rooms were decent, clean and spacious. The hotel has free parking and free WiFi and breakfast at good rates. The location is also convenient to a lot of stores nearby. Got the room on the 2nd floor. Pros: Front staff is nice. Was able to get a 30 min later checkout no problem. Basic internet wifi is free. Cons: 1. The main problem I have with this hotel is that the doors do not block sound very well. I can hear people walking/talking in the hallway very clearly. What's even worse is that the ice machine is right next to our room so every time someone gets ice we hear it clearly. 2. The vents in the room makes a ton of noise which is annoying. 3. While the balcony is a nice add, it is very tiny and carry sound very well due to the way they are laid out. There were about 3 kids 2 doors down playing on the balcony and woke us up at 6:00am in the morning. Again, we can hear them crystal clear. Long story short, if you need a quiet night of sleep, don't go here. read more

Rates too expensive for what you get. I booked a room for my 81 yr old mother, she was placed in a room facing the back parking lot yet being charged almost $300 for 2 nights midweek. Housekeeping cleaned her room but her bed sheets were all wrinkled up, they didn't even bother to straighten them, and didn't replenish coffee supplies! The pool was ice cold.....now for what they charge you'd at least expect a heated pool or close it! The hot tub jet shot water straight up and should be repaired. They advertised breakfast included but when she ordered breakfast she was charged for it. We will not be using this hotel in the future! read more

the hotel changed ownership in the last few years, and the hotel is just not straight up with guests anymore. I reserved a room for three nights, BECAUSE THEY ARE PET FRIENDLY. the moment I walked in, the lady simply said "we don't accept cats". mine travels with me nd causes no issues ever. I was greeted with a nasty, matter-of-fact statement from the lady on duty. I waited around for the manager to come back from break, and he said it's his owner who refuses a cat. the manager Russell was much nicer and helped me find another place. the website says nothing but "pet friendly". I would not have made reservations here, if they were up front about their policies. confronted with this, after an 8 hour drive and 109 degree heat outside, is not pleasant, especially when confronted nastily by this lady. even when traveling petless, I will never stay there again. customer service should be #1. mr owner, you are in the hospitality business. good luck with your investment, as you are going to need it! read more

No real complaints about the hotel. The room was clean, it had all the amenities, and the breakfast was not bad. That being said, there was nothing really exceptional. Overall, it was a good overnight stop for a business traveler on a 2-day road trip. After checking in, I lightly tapped another car while trying to make a 3-point turn in the crowded parking lot. I let the woman at the front counter (Rasey) know and she went out of her way to help me find out whose car it was so I could make it right. No carpet - they switched to cheap laminate. Door doesn't close shut to lock. Smoke alarm is hanging out of the wall by the wires. Heating/AC is super loud - can't sleep with it on. No room service - have to go to the restaurant to pick up the food. Pool isn't heated. read more

The bed was comfortable and I actually liked the hotel pillows which is not always the case. The pool was perfect temperature but not enough towels for all guests. Overall, the hotel was pretty dirty. The hallway carpets looked like they haven't been cleaned or vacuumed since they were put in. There was trash on the floor. The toilet in our room had pee on the back of it and there was someone's dirty shirt hanging behind the door. When you first walk into the hallways, it smells like a Las Vegas hotel - nasty old smoke smell. When walking to the pool in the hallways I could smell marijuana - so much for being a smoke free facility. Overall, the hotel needs to be cleaned better. Our room didn't have enough towels for our whole family and when I tried to call housekeeping, they never answered. Had to call the front desk and the lady was actually very prompt in getting us more towels. read more

When I got to the hotel, I was greated with a big smile and Hello from the front desk clerk. She was very friendly and pleasant. And after a 3 hour car drive it was very warming. When we got to the room I was very surprised! The beds were very comfortable, and the room was very clean. Checking out was just as pleasant as checking in. This hotel is run down and dirty. The card key wouldn't work in the first room door. The second room had no hot water in the shower and the sink drain didn't work. Tiles were missing in the shower floor. I can not recommend this hotel. read more

I have been making the trip between my hometown in California and my home in Oregon for the last 30 years. About 15 years ago I discovered the Red Lion and have been staying there ever since. It's my 1/2 way point. Some of the staff is the same. They recognize me when I come in. The rooms are clean comfortable and newly appointed. And the restaurant is the bomb! Don't forget dessert! Very EXPENSIVE for what it is. Room was alright, small, nothing special, relatively clean, relatively updated decor. The building does not have elevators, which is weird. No complementary breakfast.Loud people in the hallway, and grown men climbing up the plants in the front- I'm assuming this has to do with the bar. A lot of people with pets. The dogs were quieter and friendlier than their owners.Seemed under-staffed and overwhelmed, but the women at the desk were cordial and polite, despite the long line and phone ringing off the hook. Red Lion Redding costs way more than anything else in the area, but all the nicer hotels (a necessary criteria when booking in Redding- are a lot of undesirable areas) were booked. If you're going to Redding on a busy weekend, definitely plan ahead, you'll get a nicer hotel for cheaper somewhere else. read more

Been here for three days starting Sunday June 24th for our 46th anniversary, and I have no Idea who these 1 star complainers are, but they must not be staying in the same place we are. This place is gorgeous, the rooms, the bathroom, all of it. The staff is extremely helpful & friendly. My only complaint, no courtesy coffee machines in the rooms, like every place we ever stay at, "Clearlake, Pismo Beach, etc. Other than that, no complaints here :-) 6-27-18 OK an addendum, and yes, finally a complaint :-). I stand by my earlier comment, is a nice place, BUT having received our checkout receipt, slipped under the door, this morning, SURPRISE, they have a policy, that WAS NOT pointed out to me at checking in, on the sheet where you initial certain items, NOT THIS ITEM, that their rates change from day to day. And I am not just talking about from weekend, or holiday rates, summer to after summer rates. I am talking about day to day rates. I was quoted at check in $89 (And change), their MEMBER RATE, which I expected to be the nightly rate. As I said SURPRISE, the 2nd night jumped to over $111, third night, $102, lower, but still higher than my quoted $89 (And change rate). IMO this should be an INITIALED area, especially since it was not even pointed out. WHO READS ALL THAT STUFF??? Well anyone wanting to stay here needs to apparently. Yes we liked the hotel, facility, but will skip Red Lion Hotels in the future, on principle. A $36 total increase is hardly anything, but would have been nice to be clearly told at check in. read more

This place is older but rooms were decent. I never heard any noise from neighbors which was nice. Room is large in size. Bathroom needs to have the peeling wallpaper taken down and it looked like there was black mold growing. Was nice having a mini fridge and microwave and newer huge tv. I inquired about late check out which they gave me an additional hour. Check out time on door in rokm is incorrect.. Said noon but its actually 11. No elevators so if stairs are an issue,be sure to request ground floor. Property feels secure.. Pool was good sized and was never crowded. Just need coffee in rooms. read more

I am writing a review just on the mothers day brunch. This was a fabulously organised brunch! The staff was very happy to be there and be involved with the customers! The only reason not 5 stars is for the very high price (29.95 and 19.95 for children ) however, if you do eat a large amount it would be a great deal..they had three settings, I believe it was for an hour and a half each seating, plenty of time! Way to go Red Lion!! Maybe you could do some seminars for other local restaurants because you have it down to a fine science! Thank you for making our mothers day stress free :) read more

We stayed at this hotel during the thanksgiving holiday weekend and it was wonderful. They are friendly and the rooms are clean. You can tell its a little older but nothing is painfully dated. Plus if you have a problem, the staff is always willing to help. The beds are the best. I've known menu people that have stayed at this hotel including a past employee and they've all asked what type of beds thru yet because terry are so comfortable. It was so nice to wake up without back pain. The curtains SERIOUSLY block out all light (I'm about to ask where they get their curtains too lol) and the short has amazing way pressure. Lots of plugs everywhere for your electronics and the little couch in there is also surprisingly comfortable. It's close to anything you need and they have a mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker.
