I was traveling with a client of mine who has very occasional seizures, and early on in our first morning here he had one while alone in the shower. Luckily, this hotel is sandwiched between lots of different hotels and restaurants, but more importantly, between the fabulous Shasta Regional Medical Center the proximate Redding Fire House. First Responders were on site in about ten minutes (which felt like an hour) and transpo went smoothly despite there being no elevator and us being on the second floor (the staircase has a landing and everything). Now, this is all well and good, and relatively standard if I may be so bold, but I'm here to say that the staff at the Americana went way above and beyond the call of duty. Housekeeping was in the next room when he collapsed. When I saw the severity of the situation I-in a relative panic, ran over to nearby staff to ask for help. This incredible woman, Darby, was the perfect person to help (second only to an actual first responder, RN or doctor). After calming the situation down with nothing but grace, she explained a little bit of her own history with seizures and what it meant to her to be able to help us in any way. Darby supported my client and I both physically and emotionally while he came out of his seizure and fell into a deep sleep, thank God, and she even stayed with me for a few minutes after he had been loaded into the ambulance. She and her boss, the manager Heather, and another lovely woman from the Americana whose name I never caught, were so supportive, kind and patient with me while I tried my best to help the PMs gather the information they needed about my client. I'd imagine some people had to check in or out a bit late because of us, sorry! But I couldn't be bothered by other guests after how helpful the staff was. PS . He was cared for in the nearby SRMC, a great hospital about two blocks away. He is now home and in stable condition. That weird bar soap that leaves a slimy film on your skin. The fridge in room is barely below room temperature. And I found some previous guest's leftover garbage food is in there...smelly as hell and not very cold. Moldy all over. Can't throw it away or the room might smell worse than it already does. 175 bucks. And the TV is standard definition. Yep. I haven't seen a grainy, fuzzy TV like this in years. Years. Fortunately, it's small, so why bother anyway? Pool is heated and open until 11 and breakfast has that huge window of 6-9 AM. You know, cuz everyone wants to be up at 6AM for some subpar continental breakfast. Bed seemed clean.

The McConnell Arboretum and Garden is a quick walk over the Sundial Bridge. Tickets are available to the events at the McConnell Arboretum. During the winter, they do have holiday lights. During our summer visits, they had lantern of various shapes. We made reservations for a 2 queen room. They gave us what we reserved. It had a view of the Turtle Bay Exploration Park (not much to see from our room). The queen beds were comfortable. The bathroom for our 2 queen room had a tub and shower. Shampoo, conditioner and body wash were the Sheraton special. It was good enough for a one night stay. They do have a fitness room with cardio equipment and weights. It is sufficient for getting a workout in. This hotel does have a lounge for Platinum and above members. Non-alcoholic beverages like soda and water are complimentary. Alcohol is available for a fee. Evening appetizers were typical of Sheraton's. They only had a cheese plate. No dinner like at Marriott's. Breakfast offerings were a little better than the evening appetizers with scrambled eggs and bacon. The Sheraton was a good hotel that gave me a good night sleep.

It was not large and should have been for the price. But it was super clean and very comfortable. Redding does not have a lot of choices and I think the Sheraton knows this and if you don't want to be in a 2 star hotel, you have little choice. The pool was great and it was a hot day so we used it. They have a 24 hour business center which is fine and I needed it. The eatery is just fine, not great. But you will find something you want. This silliness about no one use straws drives me nuts. I actually use a straw so get me one. They have valet or self parking for a fee. They have one nice bar and that is all one needs. I would not stay here for days, but for a couple of days it was fine, just too much money. The outside is super pretty and the lobby is great. I think this place is new and that is great.

The manager didn't even offer an apology and we have a $2k medical bill. We were in town for an annual sporting event for our other child. The team stays here and I'll be doing my best to ensure other families stay elsewhere next year. The room also smelled like pee but I was willing to overlook that before the injury.

A bit of a weird layout with the elevators. If I had to come again for work I would only stay on the top floor because (and here's where I took off a star): I'm on the second floor and I can hear the person walking back and forth on the floor above me and the person's tv and conversations next to me. I can also hear water through the walls. That's not a restful experience! In the morning, through my front door I could hear someone's blowing their hair dry from across the hall! The room had a nice sofa, seating area and a large screen tv. Bathroom was large size and had soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotion from Zero. They have a gym on the first floor with stationary bikes and treadmill for cardio. Dumbbells and a weight machine are available if you need to lift weights. A laundry room is part of the gym. The gym was adequate, though a little strange to have people in there waiting for the washing machine or dryer. It's a good hotel to stop at after a long drive north. They gave me everything I needed for a good nights sleep.

We did check in as noted and the stay went well. Conformation #967676735 On 5/21/2026 I made a reservation for a return trip stop over on 5/24/26 check in. at the Holiday Inn Express located in Redding North Shasta Lake and check out 5/25/2026. On 5/21/2026 I changed the reservation to check in on 5/23/2026 check out on 5/24/2026 one day early. When we arrived on 5/23/2026 we went to check in and there was no reservation. Conformation #5374886703 Pin 9039 They checked with Booking.com and found out when the agent made the changes he put in the reservation for the wrong month. So luckily, they had a room available, so we checked in. The cost of the room was $190.40 no problem, we paid it. We were lucky they had a room on a Holiday weekend without a reservation. When we arrived home at the end of our trip, I checked my credit card charges and Holiday Inn Express charged me $147.38 for booking the wrong date of 6/23/2026. When I contacted Booking.com they told me that I must pay that amount because of a cancellation fee. This was not my mistake it was the reservation person mistake. All I am asking for is credit the amount of $147.38, the cost of the room that was reserved on the wrong date by their agent.

I was so happy with my bed and breakfast experience that I definitely will trust my fellow reviewers in the future. First, Janelle was super accommodating and let me check in early because I would be attending the wedding and needed to get ready. She followed up with me on text message as to my arrival time to make sure that she would be there to greet me. When I walked in, I noticed my phone number was coded to the key pad entrance to the B&B. So cool! Janelle was there to greet me and give me an envelope with my key and instructions. I went up with her to the bedroom and needless to say, was so impressed with her style and quality that she brings to her B&B. The room seemed to be flawless in the way that she spent time picking out pictures and linens. The linens were even washed in a very nice fabric softener and didn't have that normal "hotel" smell. I was able to get the Sun Dial Room, and even though it was the most expensive, it was definitely worth every penny. There was a fresh, large bottle of water in the room with chocolates. I had free wifi and a nice flat screen TV. A jacuzzi tub. And oh, did I mention.. the best, most comfortable bed that I never wanted to leave? Top it off.. breakfast in the morning makes me giddy just thinking about it. I had french toast, a vegetable frittata, potatoes, chicken/apple sausage, fresh juice and coffee. Janelle served breakfast promptly at 8:30 and I was definitely there with bells on. Everything was served family style and while eating breakfast you are able to enjoy the company of other guests, which makes breakfast that much more entertaining. For a few bucks more, stay at this bed and breakfast. Completely avoid the Howard Johnson or other chain hotel. You will not be disappointed.
