Servers are great. Will and Ronna are our favorites. Food comes out fresh and hot. Seems like there is a good team operating here.

A difficult evening handled with kindness and integrity…read more My wife and I visited Smoke on the Water during the very busy D-Day weekend in Conneaut. Our experience did not begin smoothly. Somehow we were initially overlooked, and after ordering we waited about an hour and a half before receiving our food. One of my orders, the brisket, was also accidentally missed. Naturally, after such a long wait we became frustrated. However, what impressed me most was how the restaurant handled the situation afterward. The manager came personally to our table, spoke to us very kindly, sincerely apologized, and made sure our food finally arrived. I told him that I understood how exceptionally busy the restaurant was and that I was happy once we finally had our meal. Then, when we were ready to pay, we were told that our entire bill had been taken care of. I actually insisted that I wanted to pay, but they would not accept payment. That gesture was far more than I expected. Mistakes can happen, especially during an extremely busy event weekend. What tells me much more about a business is how they respond when something goes wrong. Smoke on the Water took responsibility and treated us with generosity and respect. I have no complaint about the restaurant. My only food criticism is that the pork ribs were much too salty for my taste. Otherwise, we enjoyed finally sitting down, eating, and enjoying the waterfront atmosphere. Thank you to the manager and staff at Smoke on the Water. You turned what could have been a very disappointing experience into one that left me with a great deal of respect for your business. That is good customer service, and it deserves to be recognized.

The service is also amazing. They're always so warm and kind. We have been there a few times and have had nothing but delicious meals. One time they had a bruschetta sampler that was fantastic. I wish they'd have it again. I've had the gnocchi Gorgonzola and it was good but not as flavorful as I would have liked. I much prefer the tortellini. Love the red sauce and the pasta is soft and delicious. My cousins also like the chicken Parmesan. Anything is delicious. Next time, I'm going to try something else. My wife and I came to this spot over a decade ago, and just recently introduced it to a group of friends while we were up in the area on a winery weekend excursion. A super small and intimate space, it is really fun to watch Alessandro perfect his craft in such a small kitchen...honestly it is amazing! Service was very pleasant and attentive, although meal prep time is longer than normal due to the unique nature of this restaurant...but trust me, it is worth the wait! We each started with a small house salad while we sipped our wine and munched on fresh bread. Then came the calamari, served in a small bowl of herbed rich tomato-based broth with chunks of crusty bread for sopping up the delicious sauce. For my main dish, I chose one of the nightly specials which was veal osso buco. It was so meaty, so rich and full of flavor that it was hard to put my fork down! Everyone around the table raved about their meal choice, and we all left with full bellies and smiles on our faces. Definitely don't sleep on this place and don't let looks deceive you from the outside...because inside is the real deal!

After we were seated (shade thank you), Our server Maxim, brought two glasses of ice water and a bowl of water for our guests baby. So nice that we didn't even ask! We sat in the back with a very nice view of the lake. We opted to share the arancini cheese balls and a pretzel burger. Perhaps it was the heat, but I didn't snap a photo of the burger and only remembered to snap a photo of the wine and arancini cheese balls. Nothing fancy, plastic cups and paper baskets. The arancini were in a glass bowl. The arancini were tasty. The sauce was good. Presented nicely with a sprinkle of Parmesan. The pretzel burger was ok. I had 1/3 of it and it was enough. I'm not a fan of pretzel buns. My husband really liked it. The French fries were really good with malt vinegar. We both had a glass of the lake side Riesling. It was nicely chilled. A tad on the sweet side. Good wine for a hot day. We enjoyed the slight breeze and there was a musician there at 6 pm. (Tom Todd). He is there every Monday and sometimes the weekend. He said they have different music every day of the week! The friendly service, atmosphere and music warranted easily 4.5 stars. The food while fine was 3 stars. The restaurant is much larger than it appears from the outside. Once you head through the first dining room and down the steps, you're greeted by a warm, homey dining room with a surprisingly spacious bar. It has a comfortable neighborhood feel, and the staff was friendly throughout our visit. Our cocktails arrived in about 10 minutes, and the hush puppies followed about 20 minutes later. They had a nice flavor, but were much denser and chewier than I expected. The bigger issue was the wait for our entrees. With the restaurant not appearing particularly busy, nearly 50 minutes for fried chicken and jerk chicken felt excessive. The good news? The chicken absolutely delivered! Both the fried chicken and the jerk chicken were packed with flavor and easily stole the show. The fried chicken was crispy and juicy, while the jerk had a wonderful balance of seasoning and spice. Those dishes alone made the meal worthwhile. Unfortunately, my mashed potatoes arrived warm instead of hot. After such a long wait, I was hoping everything would come out piping hot, and that side just missed the mark. Cole slaw was fresh but pretty boring in the flavor department. I really wanted this to be the five-star experience that so many others have had. While this visit didn't quite live up to the hype, the quality of the chicken showed why Pineapple Eddie's has earned such a loyal following. We'll happily give them another shot someday and hope they earn that elusive fifth star.
