Omigosh, this chain has certainly had its ups and downs. I do not fault the parent company for taking unlimited shrimp off the menu to stanch financial hemorrhaging. But the Missus and I are health-conscious diners and we have a huge problem with their current downsized menu, namely finding something that we could eat. A preponderance of entrées are deep-fried and/or drenched in dairy products (butter, cream or cheese). Coupled with the restaurant's inability or unwillingness to make substitutions without an upcharge or prepare certain items "dry," our only option was fresh fish, simply grilled. Both the salmon and the mahi mahi were excellent, as were our sides. We discussed the menu situation with a manager, who conceded that he had received similar feedback from other diners. He suggested sending feedback to https://www.redlobster.com/contact-us/. So, we did. A few weeks later, we received a reply which stated in part, "Your comments have been sent to the appropriate teams here at our corporate offices for consideration in making future business decisions." Red lobster is still getting not perfect reviews BUT. On Fathers Day, Red Lobster deserved a 10 for great service, hot and good tasting food, enough staff that were happy to wait on you, and the place was wall to wall customers from opening until night time. The restaurant was packed with an hour waiting time without a reservation most of the day. We were there with 5 people and our waitress was great. Good drinks and I had the New Orleans salmon with shrimp and the sauce was spicy and tasty. There are that many Red Lobster restaurants open any more but the Schaumburg location is worth visiting. What struck me most was that the host insisted on sitting every guest in the same tight section. There was a man with a crying baby, a group of girls, two older couples, and myself--all seated side by side in an otherwise empty dining room. It didn't make for a relaxing experience. I ordered the Seaside Trio and waited over 30 minutes for it, only to receive it room temperature and completely lacking flavor. It was honestly disappointing. The group next to me ordered the new seafood boil and even told the waitress they didn't want to take any of it home because the food was that bad. The biscuits, which are usually a Red Lobster highlight, were overcooked--crispy and not even warm or soft like they should be. And to top it off, prices have clearly gone up, yet now a simple side salad isn't even included anymore? It's frustrating to pay more and get less--especially when the quality just isn't there. What a great night at this restaurant. The server was awesome he answered all my questions and served me a yummy mango Martini. Carlos, the bartender, was so sweet and polite and stayed talking to us for a bit. His father was from where I was born, Cuba. My wife ordered a mixture of sea food, coconut shrimp, shrimp scampi, and scalops, with rice all very yummy. I ordered the sea and earth dish that was super good, lobster tail, mash potatoes, and broccoli with filet mignon. The place was clean, cozy and very nice. Mother's Day was approaching with less than 2 weeks into the holiday. I had to make reservations fast and with my mother's current dietary restrictions, we sought an all-seafood option. We looked at several spots. Most places we considered were solid seafood joints however all other options were too casual with limited dining space. We wanted a restaurant that was convenient, had ample parking, comfy seating and most of all is seafood heavy. Red Lobster fit the bill and I was able to snag a reservation with under a week left until Mother's Day. Years passed since my last visit to this location. Compared to our last experience, the service and the majority of the food we ordered remained consistent with minor hiccups. We started off with their signature cheddar biscuits and a calamari appetizer. Both starters were as good as I remember them however sadly those cheddar biscuits seem to be shrinking. We arrived for lunch and by 12:30, a good section of the restaurant was at capacity thus placing us in the overflow section near the bar. As requested, they got our party of 4 in a booth and we ordered the following mains: *Ultimate Seafood Feast (mom and dad split this) - It was a huge meal where you can pick 2 premium and 2 classic main dishes. The parents decided on a lobster tail, grilled scallops over rice, Walt's shrimp and shrimp fettucine with sides of baked potato and coleslaw. It was plenty and they had leftovers afterwards. *Ben got the Maine Lobster Tail duo with side of fries - He said the lobster was to his expectations, but the fries were terribly cold and hard. *I ordered Surf and Turf - It was a Maine Lobster Tail paired with a 7 oz sirloin. My sides of baked potato and broccoli were just right. Sirloin was cooked to my liking (medium) and the Lobster was tender. No complaints here. Our server was good albeit a tad slow. As soon as I heard that Red Lobster is doing unlimited shrimp for $20 as an ongoing promotion, I had to go. My friend and I went around 2 p.m. to avoid the dinner crowd. The place wasn't crowded at all and we were promptly seated. It took a moment for a server to come over and greet us. The restaurant was quiet since it was early in the day. Our server apologized when he did appear and from that point on, he was on top of everything. He took our orders, I ordered the garlic shrimp scampi and shrimp skewers and my drink was strawberry lemonade. I devoured my first order then order the Walt shrimp (fried breaded shrimp) and the shrimp fettuccini alfredo. There was a time when Red Lobster was the "go-to" restaurant for seafood. I don't have words to describe what it has become. And it's relative to all but one location in the Greater Chicago area. The first time I went to this location, I sat at the bar. After 20 minutes of no water and no acknowledgment, I left. Second time and the same. I had a really bad craving for some of their biscuits. It's been a few years, and so I got done friends and the family together and headed out to see what was on the menu here. Out server Sami was awesome! She checked in on us regularly and made sure that we had what we needed. We've been coming to this Red Lobster for years. I've been to probably 10 others in several other cities and in the Chicago area over the past 40 years, and this has always been one of the better ones. Which is why our experience here a few weeks ago was uncharacteristically uncomfortable, and completely unexpected. Usually this location excels on service, and the food is Red Lobster-dependable. Brian, as we later found out was the manager's name, seated us. We arrived at about 8:20, and the restaurant was closing at 9pm. Our plan was to have a quick meal, and leave as close to 9pm as possible. Instead, it was well after 10pm before we exited. First, after we were seated, we sat for over 10 minutes before a server even acknowledged us. We ordered, and at that point, everything seemed okay. I mentioned that I'd earned an appetizer thanks to points in their rewards system. So we expected that, as is usual at any restaurant, we'd first get the appetizer, then the soup and salad, and then the entrée. We were there on a Wednesday night, so to make things easy (we thought), we both ordered the steak and shrimp special that they heavily advertise as the special on Wednesdays. I'd ordered it for home delivery a couple times earlier in the year, and it was a good deal for the price, so I was looking forward to having it hot and fresh this time. (Oops, jinxed it!) Our appetizer came out first, but the shrimp were undercooked (they were still fleshy, like they'd barely been heated), so we sent it back. Brian the manager then came out to "discuss" this with us, so I explained why I'd returned it. He tried to use an excuse that this was due to their new supplier, and I cut him off. A supplier has nothing to do with whether or not something arrives fully cooked. He wasn't happy, but he grudgingly said they'd remake it. I told him just a little more time heating it would probably take care of it, and that would be fine with us. I'm guessing they're not allowed to do this, which is a shame. I hate to see food wasted. But wait, there's more ... The new appetizer came back out, maybe 10 minutes later. But along with it, on the same tray, delivered by Brian, were our soup and salad, and our entrées. Really? Um, no. We sent everything back but the appetizer. And then when we were finished with it, our server and a helper (not Brian) tried to deliver the same entrées, no longer hot and fresh, along with the soup and salad. Again, we sent the entrées back. We asked for them to come out after we'd had a chance to eat our soup (him) and salad (me). And we mentioned that if they hadn't been remade, by this time at least 30 minutes after they'd first been delivered, they probably wanted to remake them or we'd send them back again. Soon Brian was out at our table again, with a kind of sneering apology, and telling us through clenched teeth that our dinner would be remade, and would be comped. We replied that this wasn't at all necessary, but told him that at this point we understood why he felt he needed to do that. We said that our only real desire was to have received our food in the correct order and cadence, appropriately cooked, and to be able to eat it while it was hot, rather than having to leave some of it cooling on the table while we ate the earlier courses. I had a sizable balance on a large gift card that I'd bought about a year ago that we planned to use to pay for it, so getting a free meal was definitely not our priority here. But from his tone of voice, I felt like maybe he thought we were trying to shill him, with this as our goal. The whole conversation made us feel like we were well beyond a nuisance to him. It was very uncomfortable. Had we not still been hungry, and realizing that by that time of night on a weekday the all-night McDonald's or White Castle would have been our only other option, we would have walked out at this point. Instead we stuck it out, waited quite awhile after we finished the soup and salad for the remade steaks and shrimp to appear, and eventually finished eating and left. By then all staff had disappeared, so we figured there was nothing else we needed to do except exit quietly on our own. Will we go back? After having gone there every month or two for years, and continuing to order home delivery during the pandemic, yeah, in fact we're going to try it again this afternoon, and hope that this was an isolated incident. But if this experience is anything like our last one, this will most likely be it. There's another Red Lobster location fairly close in the other direction, so we'll try that one next, rather than give up on the franchise, and then we'll go from there. I have been going to RL for years. I would say they have been pretty much consistent with their food, ambiance and service. Yesterday, was different for two reasons. First, our server was friendly, attentive and just had a great personality. It was natural for her to give service with a smile, interact and engage. Kai at the RL in the Lincolnwood mall was GREAT. I've been coming to this location my whole life, and I think the consistency of Red Lobster is something to appreciate. Shrimp has always been scampi, fried, coconut, and the biscuits have always been warm and buttery. Drinks have always had free refills, lobsters have always been chilling out front for the kids to see, and it's just a short drive away for some consistent seafood for people who might not trust it all the time. Got the surf and turf with corn, while everyone else tried types of shrimp. Sides of veg tasted fresh, and our waiter was sort of nice in a sarcastic type of way. There weren't many customers so he was maybe just making the best of a slow day. My steak was just how I asked- medium rare, with corn (small up charge) and potatoes. Potatoes had a little crust on top, so potentially just heated up and used, but I was hungry so alright. Calamari was flavorful, but 12 bucks for half calamari and half fried peppers was not what I asked for, especially when the dish wasn't even that large anyway. I gave this rating because from the time we walked into the door till the time we left we were treated very unkindly and cruel. Carlos was the greeter that day and he went to ask a server if it was okay to see us in his section. We get taken to our table and it's set up for a party of six and we are only two people. What can I say, I am a sucker for seafood. Although i dont really prefer the chain restaurants anymore ever since I became a Yelper, its good to visit once in a while. Came here on Halloween after trick or treating in the neighborhood, so it was conveniently close by and I havent had seafood in a while. Hello, I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the food I received for carryout during my recent visit to your restaurant located at 3301 W. Touhy Avenue, Lincolnwood, IL 60712. My family and I have been loyal customers for many years, but the meals we ordered for carry-out on 12/02/23 were truly unacceptable. The bread was stale and hard. This should have been my first indication that the food quality was not up to standard. In the entrees, it was clear why the bread was so poor. The seafood I received was absolutely disgusting! The shrimp I ordered was undercooked, rubbery, and had an unpleasant odor. The lobster was gummy and discolored. It was completely inedible! You know your location is putting my household at risk! Risk of Amnesic Shellfish Poisoning! Even the sides, like the mashed potatoes I paid extra for, the calamari appetizer, and Walt's favorite shrimp, were so nasty! I couldn't eat it. The creamy lobster mash potatoes made me throw up, horrendous! And the cheddar bay stuffing was soggy and gross, and what the hell is going on with the shrimp linguine noodles? They were undercooked and super hard! At the prices Red Lobster charges because I paid a hefty amount for this crappy food, I expect high-quality seafood. Unfortunately, this visit for carry-out was a complete waste of money, and I felt nauseous after eating the poor-quality food. I will not be recommending Red Lobster at 3301 W. Touhy Avenue, Lincolnwood, IL 60712, and I am hesitant to ever return after this experience. To come home to some shitty food--unacceptable! Something needs to be done to address food quality issues. I request a response on how you plan to remedy this situation.
