I've been here many times the massages are usually very good the place is very nice. However I was given a gift of three massages and went today to use my third one and they told me it had expired. There is a law that says you cannot expire gift cards and gift credits but somehow they call it a series and supposedly that law doesn't apply. I love this place. Sage has always been my go to when I was pregnant and I loved it so much I continued to go there even after pregnancy. I'm a physical therapist so I'm choosy with my massage therapists because there are many out there who don't know what they're doing. These people know what they're doing. I always recommend my friends to this place and the only place now I buy gift certificates from ever for massages. I was worried when it switched to red moon but just went again last week under the new ownership and it's just as great. When I was 41+ weeks pregnant I had the best natural labor inducing massage here. I told my masseuse to just go at those pressure points, and I was in labor within a few hours of leaving and delivered later that night. The spa is a great neighborhood gem and is small yet manages to have a relaxing communal lounge space and spacious treatment rooms. They do some aromatherapy with each massage so you can customize your experience a bit more. I've had other massages here too, including a regular prenatal that was relaxing and soothing on my tired legs and back. Regular massages here are great and strong if that's what you like. read more

It was BETTER than the one I had at Canyon Ranch (by a wide margin) The massage with Jennifer was everything you want in a prenatal massage - truly therapeutic, and healing, and also relaxing. And they have the very official pillow setup to be comfortable on your side so you feel confident knowing you're in good hands. I told Jennifer I've been having sinus issues so she both started and ended (super smart!) with an expert head and facial massage - while still having plenty of time for a full body massage. My girlfriends and I came here yesterday for a massage. Before getting our massages, we were asked to fill out a form. I stated that I have tension in my upper back and shoulder area. Before starting, I told my masseuse that my shoulders and back is very stiff and need deep tissue work. She said that she will start with a regular massage first and then if she feel that deep tissue is needed, she will then give me that. After 30 minutes of her " pushing" lightly on my back, she started working on my legs and flipped me over for my arms and said the massage was over. My masseuse was super nice and I didn't have problems like other yelpers that said their masseuse talked alot. She gave me my quiet time but it just didn't do it for me. I felt even more tired than before getting the massage. Sorry but I won't be coming here again. I'm giving three stars because everyone there was so friendly and nice. I've been going to Sage Spa for massages now and then for about three years, and I think it's great. They are always able to fit me in last minute, the masseuses are all very professional and respectful. The place is very clean and quiet. You walk in and there are drinks and snacks, and you choose a scented oil for your massage. I have never had to wait, they are always prompt and on time. Once I had some problems with my massage (essentially I had some difficulties getting physically comfortable because of some medical issues and the masseuse was unable to position me in a way that worked) and I spoke to the owner about whether she had considered getting a special table for this common issue. She was super open, not defensive, and comped me the same service for free. I thought this went absolutely above and beyond. I have gotten regular massages, prenatal, postnatal, and massages that are supposed to help kickstart labor. I really like that they offer those kinds of services. You can buy gift certificates on their website and either print them off or email them, which is very handy. And they keep records on their computers, so everything is easy and seamless and they can just look you up in their system. I have had certificates bought for me, and I've bought them for others. My mom also loved the massage we got for her from Sage, and my husband loves Sage for massages as well. I recommend asking the masseuse to switch the music to classical instead of new age. read more

On first inspection, Sage Spa cost a bit more than I'm used to. It was going to take a pretty impressive performance to convince me they were worth it. But having just moved to the area from Queens, I was still low on options. Kira, my massage therapist, was fantastic. She's great at getting a feel for exactly what pressure you're looking for. Part of the package I purchased was for a half hour foot massage, because since I broke my toe a few weeks ago I've even walking funny and it's led to several different muscle aches. She was so gentle, but when I got home, my feet actually looked less swollen. They felt out of this world. The only problem is that the walls aren't totally soundproof, and I did hear the details of a few waiting room conversations, including the receptionist's. I got a 60 minute massage and 30 minute mini-facial. I'm only giving it 3 stars because I've had better massages and the facial wasn't quite what I was expecting. I thought the lighting in the treatment room was too bright, but the masseuse did a good job. So, minus one point for atmosphere. Be forewarned the facial is more of a pampering treatment and not the same kind of facial you'd get from a traditional esthetician. I didn't know this. I have oily skin and the oily facial actually made me break out all over my forehead. bah. I was going to get a facial to improve my skin ... so, minus another point for oily facial on oily skin. Let me begin by stating this is my first spa experience in the united states. Usually spa service is a treat I allow myself when vacationing. I enjoyed my one hour massage so much!!! The staff is kind, respectful, professional, and knowledgable. I think this should be my new stress reliever from work because quite frankly after finishing the massage you feel so at ease.. You choose the oil for the therapist to work with before you enter your room. They have hands like a two year old child!!! I felt transported, and fully relaxed during my massage. I would recommend sage spa to anyone. They're small so it's not like a giant chain spa service to get to you and rush you out. You speak with your therapist to go over your likes and dislikes before you ever get on the table. The fact that I got a birthday gift certificate is what bought me here and it was worth every penny. LOVED IT!!!! I had such a great experience at this place. The ambience is serene. The front desk is super receptive and they really go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. They have you fill out some information about yourself that gives the masseuse a better understanding of your symptoms. The rates are very good. Come by Wednesday or Thursday to get discounted rates. My masseuse did an excellent job of a sports/deep tissue massage. She worked out as many of my tight muscles as she could in an hour. Being naked makes me nervous, so when I was asked to remove my shoes before I even walked in, I died inside a little. They seem dedicated to maintaining "the mood" here, so much so that the receptionist whispers. Luckily, everything else was amazing. Pretty much the best hot stone massage I've had in that they actually use the stones, and don't just place scalding rocks on your body (doesn't count!). When you first walk into the massage room you are offered various scented oils to chose from, nice personalized touch. The rooms are clean, serene and fairly decent sized - you dont feel like you are walking into a closet. I went two years in a row for my birthday and was given a birthday discount, not sure if they still offer this feature, but worth asking about. Either way, the pricing was decent and I was happy with the experience. My only negative is that the masseuse was responsible for collecting my payment and I got all self conscious about how much I was tipping her - more of a personal problem though. read more

My sister bought me a gift certificate for a one hour deep tissue massage at Sage Spa for Christmas and I finally used it. While Sage Spa is not a spa in the the sense that it has resort-like amenities, it does indeed have spa-like qualities of leaving you feeling warm, welcomed, and relaxed. When I entered, the receptionist greeted me at the top of the stairs at the door to the spa, and asked if I'd been before. Since it was my first time at Sage, she showed me the different scented oils that can be used during my massage so I could decide ahead of time. My masseuse, Yolanda, was absolutely amazing. She used a combination of deep tissue, hot towel, and stretching during my massage, and the hour went by incredibly quickly. She checked in with me to make sure the pressure, temperature, position, etc. was ok with me. I left feeling relaxed and with my muscles less tight. I very much recommend this place, especially if you're having a Treat Yoself Day like I was. I decided to treat myself to a good massage for my birthday at the last minute (like, literally I called about 2 hours before) and Sage was able to fit me right in. They even Googled train times to make sure I'd be able to get to my movie date on time afterward. I chose the Signature Massage and took advantage of the mid-week special, which was a good deal for how nice of a place this is. I got to pick out an aromatherapy scent for the massage oil, and all smelled amazing, but I picked Rose/Geranium. Suleika, my massage therapist, kindly added me to her schedule even though she hadn't planned on staying, and took time to listen to my specific needs. She did an amazing job on my neck and shoulders, which are chronically tight from an old injury and years of computer/desk/tech strain. There are tons of places in the city where you can get a cheap massage, but if you want a truly good massage, and calming, beautiful atmosphere, Sage is the place. read more

This is definitely not a spa, I'll start at that. This picture on yelp and the website absolutely do not represent the facility at all, it was dirty, old, tattered, run down. They do not list that it's in a walk up building (up some grotty carpeted stairs, the spa is basically someone's apartment). I was given a gift certificate for a prenatal massage + 30 minute facial. I call to book both services asking for a 4:30 appointment for the facial and then have the massage after so that I can end on a relaxing note. The day before my appointment I get a call asking if I can make my appointment an hour earlier, which I couldn't, they then say "ok great, we'll see you for your appointment time of 4:15 tomorrow then" I hung up the phone and thought, hang on my appointment is at 4:30... I went there for 4:15 on the dot just to be safe. Got there, walked up the grotty stairs, was rushed into my appointment. The staff were very kind and friendly though. The lady doing my massage then tells me she's doing the massage first then the facial- I didn't complain I just went along with it. In a super grotty room, air conditioning blazing, one random lamp in there- not relaxing at all. I got into the sheets on the bed which felt sticky, and smelled musty. I asked the therapist to focus on my neck and shoulders and to use very firm pressure, she then spent maybe 10 minutes on my neck and shoulders and the rest of the 50 minutes elsewhere- no firm pressure was felt at all, it was more of a flat palm stroking method all over my legs arms back and feet. The air conditioner was turned on again mid massage (without asking me) so I was then cold and tense and shivering for the massage. I went to the bathroom after the massage before the facial, no slippers or flip flops were offered to me so I had to tip toe to the bathroom in bare feet. (The bathroom was filled with dirty wet smelly towels- picture attached. This was the same bathroom they guided me to. I didn't snoop in any dirty laundry rooms. Perhaps they should put their dirty laundry in another room that is not used by customers?). Then comes the "facial" which started with extremely strong essential oils (very thick) slathered all over my face (and lips- GROSS) and I'm pretty sure you should never use thick essential oils on your face- so strong I could barely breathe. I then remembered that I didn't even notice there being a sink in the room- instead the (same) therapist was using a small cereal bowl of water that she kept dipping the same cloth in the same Luke warm water- which after a few oils then wash offs, becomes dirty, oily, and cold. A quick exfoliation then washed off with that same cold oily water then the steaming started. The steam smelt like wet dog..... and after a few minutes of wet dog steam the therapist went on to put cold oil on my face... (aren't you supposed to exfoliate and cleans the skin after the steam when you're pores are open.... not put cold thick oil on your open pores..?) surprisingly I was given a foot massage mid facial, and the therapist went straight from my feet (after me having gone to the bathroom with bare feet!!!!!!!!!!!) straight back to my face!!!!!!!!! Without washing her hand or anything!!! I was so grossed out I just wanted to get up and leave, I genuinely think I shed a tear from feeling so uncomfortable and grossed out. The so called ilike organic products they list on their website for the facial were definitely not used- I have included pictures of the products that were used- one questionable product straight out of a plastic cup... (the cupboard was left open by the therapist when she left the room, again no snooping on my part. There were no other products in sight). I will absolutely never return to this "spa" again, I am grossed out- even if I were offered a free service I would turn it down- thoroughly disappointed. The owners response to this review is accusatory and unfair, and just validates the negative experience as a whole. Wow. What an amazing spa. I scheduled my massage the morning of and they had openings later that day! The receptionist..who I later found out was also the owner of the spa..was so calm and kind. Not pressuring at all - even when I ended up having a brain lapse and was calling in to say I was coming in late...total calm. When I got in, the spa environment was so open, airy, and green. Lots of flowers and plants around the room. Kathy, my massage therapist took me in with the same openness and ease. She asked if I needed extra attention in any areas. I told her my neck and shoulders, and that I have had congestion from Spring allergies. I felt really relaxed with her although I'm usually shy and somewhat anxious with new people. I chose Roman Chamomile as my essential oil. Kathy was incredibly thorough. She got deep into my shoulder blades and neck where I had been holding a lot of tension and in places that I didn't even realize. As a yoga instructor, I definitely learned a lot about my own body from the massage. I recognized my breathing and congestion completely opened up during the session. I breathed the deepest I had in a while since the allergies happened! I stayed silent during the massage and Kathy respected my desire to just bliss out and focus on my body. Afterwards, she also let me take my time after the session and a jug of water was waiting for me right on the table. I paid and then hung out around the living room eating jelly beans and snacks that they had on the table before leaving - Just soaking in the care and calm I just received. Again, check out was totally chill, no pressure. I felt like I had been totally transported into an island paradise without a sense of time or place. An hour later, I feel simply happy after my session. I am probably going to go in again for their therapeutic facials and reflexology...probably like tomorrow morning. tehehe. I feel very fortunate to live so close to this little gem of a spa. All of the massage therapists are very good. Today I went in feeling totally broken. I threw my back out a week ago and it has been starting to effect my legs and this morning my neck locked up...I hobbled in and Agnes went to work like a technician. She knew exactly what to do and focus on. I walked out gingerly but feeling more aligned as well as being able to move my head again. I am confident she put my muscles on the right track to healing and am so relieved. The cherry on top of today's service was the midweek special pricing. WARNING! Please read if looking to get facial! I have been to this spa once before and had a pleasant experience, so I decided to try the facial and massage package. The massage was lovely, the facial was not memorable. But why I am writing this post is specifically related to the aftermath of my facial and massage. I broke out with the WORST acne I have ever had, not only on my face, but also my chest and back as well. To top it off, two days later I woke up with a sty in my eye and I can only assume it was from the "holistic" facial and bacteria in either the sponges, hot towels, or products used. I have sensitive skin to begin with and I occasionally do break out (typically around a specific time of the month-not now btw) but I am embarrassed to even walk outside with cover up on at this point! I called to book over the phone, so I did not look on the website or even yelp to review the facial-100% my bad! If you break out in the least bit, I HIGHLY suggest not getting a facial from here. I was told they do not do extractions and that it was not like a normal facial, but what I was not told is that the massage therapist is the one performing the facial NOT an aesthetician. I am extremely disappointed and the stress relief I needed from that hour and a half at the spa certainly was NOT worth it. read more

I went to Sage Spa for the first time this morning, and was very pleased with the ambiance, the staff, and the massage itself. I had the full body massage as well as the TMJ massage. Nothing else has worked to relieve the tension in my jaw muscles. This was my first professional massage experience. My friend purchased the massage as a gift for my upcoming wedding. The spa was clean and had a soothing atmosphere. We were offered tea or water. I got to the massage room and my masseuse asked about any physical problems or sensitivities. I told her it was my first massage and she made me feel very comfortable and at ease. We loooove Sage! I got pretty painful sciatica almost right away when I got pregnant, and started to going to Sage for prenatal massages. Not only did the focus on exactly what I requested, but they also showed me stretches to do at home for the pain. My husband goes when I do and gets Swedish massages. Inez is his favorite therapist, and Jennifer is mine. The atmosphere is very calm, the therapists really listen to what you prefer, and they have a great mid-week deal for $89/an hour. They don't offer it when you go or automatically ring it up- You have to ask for it! For prenatal, Sage can't be beat - they are all trained, have tons of resources, and lots of ways of making your uncomfy body comfy:). read more

I was able to get a same day appointment and was fortunate enough to fall into the hands of Noriko. Although I wasn't looking for a prenatal massage but more of some relief for my chronic neck pain that flares up every so often, she worked her magic all over my evolving body. I have been to Sage Spa twice, and both experiences were absolutely amazing. I had prenatal massages by Zoe and Kira. I am 32 weeks pregnant and plagued with terrible muscle/join aches. Both therapists were able to put me into the most relaxed state of mind. The tables are equipped with pillows which support you in all the right places. At first I was nervous that I would be uncomfortable, but it was exactly the opposite, I was completely comfortable and relaxed. It felt wonderful! I have had several massages before and none can compare to the ones I received at Sage. The therapists are duly trained and know exactly how to apply just the right amount of pressure. After each massage, I felt like a new person, except that I was upset because I didn't want the massage to end! I wish I could give this spa 10 stars! Highly recommended for prenatal, especially in the third trimester. read more
