Staple Eaton/Preble County establishment. Love getting dinner whenever back home. Highly recommend for anyone new to the area.

Way too loud and way too cold in there in the winter love the food, but I won't go back until those things are changed

We dropped in for lunch around Noon. Menus are on the table so we looked them over right away. I decided on the Park cheeseburger while hubby ordered fried shrimp & a Pepsi. I got a side of charred Brussels sprouts & hubby substituted homemade macaroni & cheese for French fries ($2 up charge). We ordered sides that were made in house because some of the sides/appetizers come in frozen. Our server was friendly & the ambiance was a typical bar atmosphere, i.e. several TVs & some salty language. The food came out quickly & we both liked what we ordered. Our lunch bill came to $30 which is typical for 2025. We would eat here again. read more

We've dined here numerous times and enjoyed them all. Burgers and fries and a variety of pizzas of course, but menu is surprisingly extensive for a small town, down home pub. In the evening, the lights are low. The atmosphere screams country comfort, and you can't miss that train a-comin' since the establishment is just feet from the tracks. Red mule images abound, and there's a genuine harness horse sulky surmounted atop the bar, forming a sort of archway where you step up to get your tab. You enter the bar through a wooden sliding door from the vestibule. The bar seats about a dozen, and there are about five booths plus some tables. They do a lot with somewhat limited space. Portions are just right- not huge. Among the many thing we've enjoyed here are the Philly cheesesteak sandwich, burgers of course, excellent grilled chicken salad (love their homemade dressings), grilled pork tenderloin (get it medium with some pink inside), as well as the Mexican platters and the filet mignon. And they have the tastiest coleslaw I've ever encountered. Barmaids/servers are super friendly and make you feel at home. We really like the Red Mule and plan to keep coming back. This small-town tavern/restaurant has stood the test of time and is just what you'd hope it would be: warm, friendly service and customers--good food at reasonable prices. I've not had a bad meal yet. The tenderloin sandwiches and hamburgers are excellent. If you are looking for a good drink, they have that, too. The train can be a surprise. read more

Red Mule is the definition of a hole in the wall in the absolute best way. This place hasn't changed in the 20 years I've been eating there, except for the addition of the outdoor patio. My go-to order is the Combination Burrito and Potato Skins, which seems like a weird duo, but with the red sauce slathered over both it's a match made in heaven. I love this place. Best hamburger I ever had. I asked the cook why the burger is so good and he said: "well, I have been cooking steaks in that same spot for many years . . ." I am also a sweet tea snob. Theirs is VERY good. You can tell the cook takes pride in what he is turning out. Always neatly presented with an attention to detail. Taco salad is also really good. Stopped in and got the lunch special at the mule the other day. Special was a Bacon cheeseburger with smoked mayonnaise and fries. The burger was really good and had great flavor. The fries were okay but the portion size was quite small. But overall not a bad lunch special for $6.99. read more

I think I just really like the atmosphere of this place more than anything - its small, old, and a train runs by almost every hour - which for some odd reason I find cool. They still have great steaks, wings and Mexican food. But don't bother to get their Philly. They used to have the greatest Philly. Then they cut it in half. But it was still great. But now they changed the bun, meat and cheese. Don't get it. Better off going to Penn Station, Supper Subby or any where else Philly. Like every bar in a small town you have your regulars. Not the once occasionally people but the guys who come in once a day some even twice a day. Lunch specials are phenomenal and the fact they change on a daily basis is something that you can look forward to. This place is a bar so burger and steaks are here. But also pizza . Wait staff is friendly courteous but oblivious..I sat down and had water. Before my food arrived I drank the water and when the waitress came by with my food I expected my glass to be refilled. Silly me,for expecting because it was left on the table. So I took the glass to the bartender and asked for a refill. She said she would bring it to me and never got it. Have been to the mule several times since the remodel. It looks great! Best thing is the food is still the same! Our favorites are the wings and the burritos. Beer is always cold and the service is very good. The new owners kept all that was good and refurbished all that was not so good! read more

We go through Eaton (a very charming Ohio town.. nice place) many times a year to take our daughter to college and back, and visits. Saturday we were hungry, but I avoid chains whenever possible. We looked up Eaton restaurants and came up with the Yelp review for the Red Mule Inn, called Eaton's best kept secret. It is a bit secretive as the front door is locked and you enter through an unmarked red door on the side of the building. But it is certainly worth finding. The Red Mule is not fancy, a very nice neighborhood tavern, friendly and clean. But the food and service were both excellent. We sat at the bar and had their weekend special, a prime rib dinner. They also offer a filet, but they were out by the time we came in a bit late. The prime was excellent and plentiful, probably local, cooked perfectly to order, with a baked potato. The salad was fresh and crisp. In short, comfort food. Perfect for last night, and most nights. We will be back soon for the burgers and Mexican food, all of which looked great. This is the kind of restaurant/bar we need more of. read more

I've lived in Preble County for 6 years and this is by far my favorite place. The bartender's are awesome and the food is affordable and delicious. Their filet is one of the best I've ever had!
