Definitely the worst service I've experienced in town. Nobody checked on us until after we were done eating. Drinks were empty most of the meal. The atmosphere was neat. It was just a nice southern cooking spot. The food was good but not great. The catfish was the highlight, but the sides aren't great. I'd save the money and go somewhere else. read more

I had a brisket grilled cheese sandwich with fries and my mother is watering while remembering the delight my tastebuds experienced with my first bite. I thought I'd be taking some of it home with me but I finished my entire meal. It was absolutely scrumptious. The brisket was tender, juicy and bursting with flavor. Came in for lunch on a Saturday. We came it right during the lunch rush. This was the first time we have ever been here and was a bit confused at first as we didn't know we were to sit ourselves. The meal I had today would best be described as "Saturday's leftover BBQ warmed up on Wednesday for dinner." I got the Sampler Platter: brisket, pork, sausage and ribs, with BBQ beans and slaw. The brisket and the pork were dry. The sausage was good and the ribs fair. The beans were a thick paste like refried beans. They had simmered on the warmer too long or just got thick from reheating. A plate of microwave warmed food. The slaw was average like the service. The portions were large. Red Oak Filling Station is a big roomy building decorated with the standard BBQ joint scheme (barn tin, deer heads, and rough-cut lumber.) It probably fills up on Friday and Saturday night with beer drinkers and local's not wanting to cook dinner. There are plaques on the wall proclaiming recognition of the fine food. The testimonials did not match my experience. This was catfish Friday. I should have ordered catfish. read more

Very good BBQ spot. I had ribs, brisket Mac and cheese and baked beans. All were excellent. Ribs were meaty, no fat and fell off of the bone. I regretted only ordering 4 bones. Brisket Mac and cheese was very cheesy and creamy, brisket blended in perfectly. Baked beans were sweeter than I expected, had meat (pork I'd guess) in them. Wife had smothered chicken breast and liked it. She's not a BBQ fan so I was happy there were several nonBBQ choices for her. Server was friendly and attentive and dining area was nice. Standard BBQ joint with a great menu selection. I was tempted to try the brisket tacos, but ended up going with the sampler platter. Ribs, brisket, pulled pork, and sausage that really hit the spot. Also, serving were generous. I'm not usually one to request a to-go box but after the delectable crawfish tail appetizer and a side of onion rings, there simply wasn't room to finish it all. Three stars for the wait time and the subpar bbq sauces. The spicy was mild at best and we waited for an eternity in our food, but our red haired waitress who looked a lot like Merida from Disney's "Brave" had exceptional customer service skills and ensured we were taken care of to the best of her ability. The meat was tender, moist (sorry, disgusting word I know), and delicious with or without bbq sauce. The onion rings were golden and crispy, the crawfish tails fried to perfection. Overall the food was a little better than your average barbecue place with a catchy name, but nothing so fantastic as to make it distinct. This, for me, was a one and done single stop restaurant if you're a fan of smoked meats and don't mind waiting for the coals to get hot after you place your order. The decor was eye catching and warranted a few stares but pretty cookie cutter overall; rustic signs, mounted deer heads, and artificial plant life accompanied by a loud crowd of people and an overall sense of urgency with all the waitresses rushing around in a mad dash to get the food from the slow as hell kitchen to the starving diners. After a long walk around the gardens, we were ready for some ice cold tea. This little place hit the spot. I had the salad with chicken which was fresh and delicious. My husband had the brisket tacos. They were just ok. The fries were hot and fresh, but over-salted. They were very busy, and with only 2 waiters, it did take a while. Stayed in Hot Springs for the night and found this hidden gem! All staff was extremely friendly. Coming from Texas I am a big BBQ snob. I ordered fried pickles for an app and the $19 BBQ sampler with a piece of catfish, brisket Mac n cheese, and fried okra. Enough food for 2. Fried pickles were sliced thin and hand breaded, simply amazing! The good: proximity to home, less than a five minute drive The bad: prices for this level of cuisine are not a good value for customers. The ugly: shrimp night is very popular, but for the price, I would prefer to have fresh out of the fryer shrimp, fresh off the grill shrimp, and finally shrimp that is not over boiled. All three varieties were poorly cooked and served cafeteria style. There was plenty, but it never even got to average. Cocktail sauce is out of a jar. If you're going to be anywhere north of $20 for 8 shrimp, you'd better have something hat can stand with it...and Heinz ain't it. And I had to ask for additional helpings for the table. Redemption: not sure which Mac n'cheese god bestowed brisket Mac and cheese upon us mere mortals, but I bow down and worship this dirty. read more

Visited this local eatery for a late supper on a Friday night. The atmosphere is casual, comfortable, and friendly. This family owned and operated place was busy, but we were seated within a couple of minutes. The menu has a variety of American home cooking selections from hamburgers, to steaks. We got a generous amount of cornmeal rolled catfish fillets, cold slaw, French fries and baked potato. The delicious catfish fillets were crunchy on the outside side and done on the inside, just like my mom's homemade! The side were outstanding. We opted to get the Italian Cream Cake, as the Turtle Cheesecake was sold out along with the carrot cake. It was top of the line! The service was amazing with our waitress being helpful and friendly! This has quickly become a regular dinner spot for me and my bride. It's off the beaten path, yet almost always busy. The staff is knowledgeable and super friendly. The food is straightforward and excellent comfort food. Chicken fried chicken is my usual order, while my bride loves to go on Thursday nights for the all you can eat shrimp ( fried/grilled/boiled). They also have an excellent smoked ribeye steak that is well seasoned and reasonably priced. You basically can't go wrong here. Just don't expect some fancy edgy bean sprout foamed plate of someone's idea of innovation. This is where you go to scratch that itch of home cooking and friendly people. read more
