I will never go back. It's dirty, the blinds are dirty, the light fixtures are full of fluff dust, the floor is dirty, the menu was filthy. I looked beyond that however because we heard the food was good. The food was terrible with wilted lettuce, soggy fries and overall just tasteless. The fish was frozen and they did not fully cook it. Don't have too much to say other than this is a great, low-key supper club. Food was solid all around (the saganaki was an unexpected menu item, but tasted delicious) and was great price overall. I went on a Tursday because I thought they offered 1/2 price pizza- but not anymore. So I ordered one of the Pasta specials- baked mostaccioli. We saw the menu and decided to try the restaurant. It has a feel of an old supper club to anyone older than 50. The food is great and flavorful, not like the bland food served to Seniors. Went there for new years with our two children and my wife. Was looking for a decent dinner for the wife and I and for our final bill of $181 you would have thought we got it, however that was not the case. Service was decent not very attentive but not awful. They had a special menu that night which you would think they would focus on the stuff they are making, also not the case. Wife and I started with an old fashioned each. I wanted to walk into the bathroom to dump mine out, cause the wife told me not to make a fuss In front of the kids. However we ordered the calamari and shrimp de jonghe. The calamari was like we were chewing on rubber bands, the shrimp were like frozen shrimp that had been covered in butter and a 1/4 cup of garlic poured over top than thrown in the microwave. Moved on to the salad and soup that came with my wife and my meal. The salad was nothing but romaine with two cucumbers in it and a slice of tomato my seafood bisque was nothing but imitation crab meat. My wife got the 8oz filet with garlic mashed that came with cheesy broccoli I got the 14oz prime rib with garlic mashed and it also came with cheesy broccoli. When her plate came out it had French fries on it which I get it easy mistake, but while waiting for her food to come out I ate a couple of my broccoli and they were ice cold so was the garlic mashed potatoes. When my wife's dish finally came back here's were the same way. Her 8oz filet looked the size of 1/4 cup measuring cup so way undersized/underweight. My prime rib was tasty and both the kids meals were good. However the server didn't bring them there soups like it said it came with on the menu but I didn't argue with her as I doubted they would eat seafood bisque. This place was good to eat at like 10 years ago however I would not recommend it until new owners come in and actually care about quality. I was very impressed with the look of the restaurant! Very nice, our waitress Trisha was wonderful very helpful, and made us feel welcome! Food was delicious so much to choose from the menu, I tried the spaghetti, with the help of Trisha, I was so happy I loved it! I loved it! Their bread they served was so good, I didn't ask if it was homemade but it sure tasted that way! We asked for second serving!! Red ox is your basic American style restaurant and menu. The Ox has good food for a good price. The wait staff is always pleasant and friendly. The beer selection is nice especially the Labatt Blue on tap. All in all it's a nice local joint, but nothing to go out of your way for. I recommend the chicken alfredo, rotiserrie chicken and the pizza on Thursdays when it's half price! read more

We went in on a Thursday night. The parking lot was full. We were greeted and seated immediately. There were all kinds of dining patrons; ladies meeting; beer drinkers, families. It was great. They have a AYCE Spaghetti Special on Thursdays in addition to the pizza. With Meatballs or Sausage or Both if you prefer.We had salad and soup to start with the Homemade Hot Bread. So good. We had the special and it was plentiful and good. I ordered liver and onions bc I was in the mood.. You have to be in the mood for that. This is classic american dining at its finest. I kept driving by this restaurant and noticing that they always had quite a few cars in their lot (a good sign) and that the building looked very well maintained. Hmm.. maybe worth a stop. Went there the other night - other reviewers had noted nice patio, with noise from 72. They were right. Overall noise is not a problem, but the group of motorcycles roaring by at one point put a stop of all conversation. The food was good. Spanokopita was good. Beer was good - they've got some yummy things on tap and reasonable prices. I had Greek Salad, came with anchovies - loved it. Bread was good. Hubby had a hamburger - it arrived and looked un-inspired...not enough blue cheese, no onions or anything to give it eye-appeal. He said it tasted "ok". Fries were good. I ordered French Onion Soup and was asked if I wanted to pay $1 to have it baked... What? Apparantly their French Onion Soup does not by default include the cheese baked on top. Very weird and annoying. It's not really French Onion Soup then, is it. (My opinion). Oh - not the restaurant's fault - but lots of bugs on patio...so watch what you are eating. :-) This restaurant is decent and has potential. Would like to see them stop skimping on things like cheese. Raise the price a $1 and pile it on. Would I recommend... well...yeah, with cautions. Would I return - I would, but husband says he won't. I was a little leery because of the negative reviews I read. We went at about 7pm on a saturday and the place was packed! I think they may have been understaffed for the evening though because there was a bit of a lag in the service, but we were still taken care of very well. We were seated almost immediately, and had bread and water on the table within a few minutes. Our server was super friendly, the food was great. My biggest issue was the only available table was in the bar area, and we had to deal with listening to the loud mouth sitting at the bar who kept yelling at the TV. I've been here for meals several times but the quality isn't what it used to be in past years. Tonight I dined by myself and was seated near the server station. I never heard such vulgar language from the retiree waitresses. The food is good, not spectacular, but they need new servers. Soon! P.s. Went again recently, and ended up leaving before even getting a menu because Again the waitress were dropping the f bomb about the fact I moved tables. Wow...surprised this place has such low reviews. Me and the GF stopped in on a Tuesday night for dinner. I've driven by this place a million times during my commute but have never been in. From the top...the interior decor is pretty good. It's a tad dark, but it's not too bad. There's a bar area that's..well...a bar. And there's a dining area that's much nicer. There's an outside area, but it was a bit too cold for that. First thing that came out was warm bread. It was pretty good, but the crust was a bit too hard. I still enjoyed it, though. The soup came out after the bread. It was very good. It tasted homemade, which is a plus. We both ordered burgers. These things were huge...1/2 pounders. The meat was not frozen and was pretty good quality. It was very flavorful. I ordered mine medium. It came out more medium-rare, but I didn't mind. If you're sensitive to this kind of thing, order one step up. Both burgers came with steak fries that, while of the frozen variety, were good enough. The prices were quite reasonable for the quality of the food. Also of note, the prices of the draft beer is obscenely low. Our waitress was amazing. She was caring, but not overbearing. I don't like feeling smothered by wait staff, but I don't like when they're aloof or apathetic. Overall, I'd definitely stop back in. read more

We went to Red Ox tonight because we had been given a Radio Shopping Show Certificate for Christmas. The whole experience was outstanding. Immediate seating. Service was fantastic. Our waitress recommended a dish called "Chicken Patricia" that was out of this world! The hot fresh baked bread was sooooo good. Their Beef Barley soup was hot and tasted great. My boyfriend and I wanted to celebrate our anniversary and have been wanting to try the Red Ox for awhile now. Well, it was not worth the wait. Our waitress was less than enthusiastic (to say the least) she acted like we were bothering her. The food was even worse. My boyfriend got the prime rib and couldn't even finish it because it was so tough. I have the pork and chicken kabobs and they were so dry, I couldn't even choke them down. We have been eating at this place for 25 years under different names. We were some of Red Ox's first customers when they opened about 2002 I think. We live 8 miles West of the Red Ox. Have driven in some nasty winter weather to get there but always thought it was worth the trip. Great atmosphere, service and quality and prices are fair. We love the warm bread served. Friday fish fry is my favorite but my wife often has the butt steak or encrusted grouper. Their Italian dishes are all excellent particularly anything linguini, shrimp or chicken. Beer is fairly priced and that is important to me. Last week we ate in the bar area with no problems. But, if the bar area is busy it can be loud so avoid it if you enjoy conversation while you dine. In 10 or 12 years we had one tough butt steak at the Red Ox, sent it back. The manager and head cook made it right so I still rate them 5 stars. Red Ox is our favorite eating place. read more

We have lived in Hampshire for 7 1/2 yrs and have always loved going to "The Ox" but stopped going 2 yrs ago. Since the restaurant has changed hands it has gone down hill. The service is horrible! Never eaten at the Ox but every time we come into town to visit family we stop in for a drink. Hampshire is a small town but the Red Ox seems to be a local favorite. The cocktails seem reasonably priced and the bar tenders friendly.
