We finally tried this place after living in the area for 30 yrs. This place has definitely seen better days. It's obviously very old & a little dirty but not terribly so. We were the only people in the restaurant for the 1st 1/2 of our meal starting at 5pm on a Saturday evening. Salad bar with the dinners was very nice. It's small but has several pasta & potato salads & of course iceberg with veggies, chopped eggs, croutons & several dressings. Also delicious garden grown tomatoes. I had an enormous ribeye med rare, I should've ordered medium. It was very well seasoned & tasty but had grizzle thru every bite. Wife had prime rib it looked good wife said it was ok, she prefers T-Roadhouses sh*tty prime rib. Son had shrimp dinner with seasoned fries & added a side of Mac n cheese that he said was good. My overall description is that Art & Alma's is decent dining in a historic building with plenty of charm. In supper club style, old photos, relics and taxidermy adorn the walls. We got really good service at the table in their small-ish dining room. Three of us had steaks & the stuffed pork chop. My opinion? All slightly overcooked. But good. The potatoes weren't as hot as they should be. The steaks and chops came with a trip to the shabby small salad bar. The big side of sautéed mushrooms we had was delicious. Haven't been since the new owners took over. Was so hoping for a great filet, they used to have prime beef, this was definitely choice. My medium rare filet came medium well which I sent back, the mashed potatoes were cold including the bowls so we sent those back. My friend finished his rib eye steak cooked medium rare before my new steak came out, the potatoes became a third course. The salad bar was dissapointing as well, not much there. I had at least hoped for the old warm bread loaf but nope, two warm average rolls. We arrived right at 2 PM on Sunday and there was one server/bartender who had to split his time between us, at our table in the back room, the bar and helping in the kitchen. Sadly even the atmosphere in the back room was too bright and less cozy than the bar room. All in all I won't drive the hour to come back. The food was so so. Our waitress was very nice, but had to ask management for answers to any questions we had. After we paid our bill and we're finishing our drinks management came over and asked us to move to the bar to finish them. I had a reservation and there was not one other table in the restaurant that had people sitting will never go back horrible rude service. read more

I tried to handle this differently. I'm not a fan of social media and certainly not posting negative comments that may harm the establishment. I chose first to contact the restaurant and did so leaving message for management or ownership to call back. Returning after many years with my wife and another couple, all enjoyed an excellent dinner and were pleased to see the salad bar good as ever. I passed on the prime rib that evening, one in our party ordered the one pound. It looked fantastic and definitely more than a pound. A week later my wife and I were part of a group of 6 debating where to dine. I suggested Art and Almas and it was chosen. I spoke highly of the prime rib and had no doubt that is what I'm ordering. Four out of six ordered same. Monica was our server that evening and acknowledged or visit two weeks in a row. The other three prime rib and two other seafood meals were placed on the table. All looked absolutely delicious. Mine was placed and Monica stated You ordered medium rare so you get the end cut. I said nothing. My jaw dropped in disappointment. I've had good end cuts before but this was not one of them. I began to make the best of an awful looking slab that was smaller than the others and tapered from nothing to average thickness, tough and unedibl. Fortunately this disaster was served to me as I thought how could the Chef or Monica let this happen. At no point did Monica or anyone else Minding the Dining Room ever ask the question Is Everything OK? Before the meals reached the table, I or the table should have been addressed that there was only three and other great options. She disappeared until far into the meal when asking Does anyone need anything? I still said nothing respecting my guests and left most on the plate, Monica knew I was not pleased. After leaving message Monday I promptly received a call back from Tom Mc Clary. Unable to receive the call he left a message and call back number. I phoned back Tuesday leaving brief description and another call back request on personal number Tom provided. No response. Left second message Friday. No response. Follow thru seems a problem that evening and now. Sad. I was responsible for bringing Ten dinners in and not even the courtesy of a call back. We were there this past weekend with a small group and everyone had positive things to say about their meal. Large portions and they actually have a wonderful salad bar ! Also, soup and pasta type items for the salad. Has some very good Old Fashioned's and classic drinks. Would recommend this place and we will be going back. Give it a try read more

Went this evening and I have to say they are trying to keep it like the past but yet bring it into the present. Drinks were perfect and looking at how they crafted them brought back great memories of the past. The service was excellent, the steaks were out of this world and they still have the salad bar! Give them a try and you might get a little twinkle of nostalgia on the way it used to be at this historic restaurant. And for an after dinner cordial.... Mott's is right next door! Enjoy! read more

Stopped in for dinner tonight. They have a new menu since we were there last. They had a "Sinatra Special" which is a filet with lump crab, shrimp and a mushroom gravy. The steak was a perfect medium as requested. I must say this was a great meal. The mushroom gravy and crab meat was the bomb. My wife had the filet trio, all three, cooked to a perfect medium as requested. The seasonal sauce and horseradish were great. The blue cheese, I get to eat tomorrow. (She doesn't like blue cheese, but I feel it tasted great, as expected). We don't usually have dessert, however we did have the crème brûlée and it was great. The only improvement would be some vanilla bean in the brûlée. The portion was shareable, the strawberry was perfectly ripe. We enjoyed the salad bar. I'm not sure what the salad is with the corn in it, but it's really unique and tasty. This is a great place for a step back in time. The interior is dated with the foil/embossed ceiling panels, old wooden bar, a nice experience all and all. The staff has always been warm and friendly. All and all a great date night. read more

Wow! We went to one of our old stomping grounds for dinner. Art and Alma in Burlington IL. We have been here in the past and it was up and down in service and food. Well let me tell ya..... SPOT ON TONIGHT!!!! Our waiter Jeff was fantastic, drinks were served quickly and made to order no problem there ! Now onto dinner.... Such a delight . We started with the salad bar which was fantastic and the pea salad is Baaacccck. So good. For dinner we had the prime rib, filet, and the filet sliders. All four of us enjoyed our meal. Jeff constantly checked in on us and was excellent. We are so glad they are back up and running and definitely put this spot back on our " out to dinner" list. read more

Went with some friends (4) to Art and Alma's restaurant last evening 8/8/24. We had planned this outing for some time. After driving for some time we pulled up to the door to see a note posted on the door that they were closed due to a water pipe burst. Ok sorry to hear that, but we checked their website beforehand and tried to call (no answer). I feel that they should have posted something on their website or changed the message on their answering machine. Not happy with this, a big waste of time on our part. Ken L. read more

Great bar but food was not up to their usual standards. Wife had fish and the portion was smaller than a slice of bread. She was still hungry and her vegetables came late and well under cooked. I had the lobster and shrimp pasta which had no lobster! They used scallops and never told us. It may be a long time before we try again. read more

They also are masking their business on their facebook page by taking down negative comments and reviews and just keeping the positive ones up. I'm sorry, but that is dishonest. Arrived at 5:30 PM on a Saturday and was given a half hour wait time. After about an hour of waiting we were finally seated, and was informed that they were out of food. Salad bar was over priced and I've seen better ones at Wendy's. They had to unlock the door to let us out because they closed early because they had nothing to serve their customers. read more

My wife and I have been going to Art & Alma's for years and while it's been a while since we have been there, our recent visit was one of the best experiences we have had. First, the mixologist (Dylan, I believe), made some of the absolute best cocktails we have ever had. Well crafted, perfect measurements, delicious drinks that were carefully made to perfection. Loved the food; My wife had the salmon, with crab cakes over risotto...and she was over-the-moon with joy at how good it tasted. I enjoyed the pork chops with the demi-glaze, and they were flavorful, good-sized portions that tasted delicious. We ate at the bar, so we only interacted with the friendly bartender and a few of the staff. The reviews about running out of food, was early in their re-opening...don't hold that against them, I was there that night too, big deal... And if a restaurant does run out of specials or popular dishes, they must be doing something right. As for the prices are no different than most other restaurants that offer a unique dining experience...not cheap, but I didn't think they were gouging either. Give these folks a chance, offer constructive feedback if you didn't enjoy your meal or experience, hopefully, they will get better and like any good business, I'm sure the new owners want to create positive dining experiences for patrons, so they choose to return again and again. We'll be back, I just hope every bartender at Art & Alma's learn how to create cocktails with the same passion and precision as the gent that made ours. read more
