I loved this place, and this was my first time visiting a Sri Lankan restaurant. I got the hopper dish with chicken curry and the curry was light and herby which I loved - with a generous portion of chicken. Also the hopper was a new experience for me. These bowls made with rice flour are slightly sweet and not fermented ( like the dosa or injera batters). When we asked for a chili sauce, we got the sambal which was habanero based - that one's got a kick but yummy. The other dishes on the table were also well loved. This is a small establishment and we were served with such care and attention. The decor is as if you are in a living room from the 90s but well thought of. I also love that the tables are well spaced and not crammed. I am definitely trying other Sri Lankan places and next time I visit Beacon, this place will be on my list to try again.

Ordered: Appetizer Sampler (~$9): 2pc fish cutlet, 2pc vegetable samosa, 2pc vegetable spring roll Deviled Chicken (~$19): sautéed with onions, pepper and traditional Sri Lankan spices; served with rice Sri Lankan Style Paratha with Goat Curry (~$20): with coconut sambol Aya's take: First time trying Sri Lankan cuisine and it just so happened to be during our day trip to Beacon! Red Pepper Diner is nicely decorated paying homage to Sri Lankan heritage. It looks like a home from the outside and feels that way when you step inside. We started with the Appetizer Sampler which was small. Nothing stood out to me or screamed "Sri Lankan" but it was a good way to start the meal. The Deviled Chicken was delicious! It was vibrant, aromatic, and full of spices! The Sri Lankan Style Paratha with Goat Curry was outstanding! The curry was delicious, the goat was tender and not gamey, and the paratha was flaky, buttery, and fresh. Sri Lankan cuisine seems like a mix of Indian and Asian influences, but a lot healthier. Less oils, less fats, and more guilt-free! Great spot to check out if you're in the area.

First time trying Sri Lankan food -- and I did not expect to have this kind of experience in Beacon, NY! From the outside, it feels like you're walking into someone's home, and the inside has that same cozy vibe. We came on a Sunday around 1 p.m. after hiking for some fall foliage and were happy to find seats available. There was just one person taking orders, so it took about 5-6 minutes to place ours, but that gave us time to really look over the menu. Here's what we tried: * Appetizer Sampler - 2 fried fish balls, 2 spring rolls, and 2 small veggie samosas. (7/10) * Deviled Pork - Must try! Perfectly crisp edges with a slightly chewy texture, full of flavor -- sweet, savory, not greasy -- all over fluffy yellow rice. Absolutely delicious and not that spicy. (10/10) * Hopper with Goat - The hopper itself was so interesting! It's a thin, bowl-shaped pancake to pair with the goat. (8/10) * Sri Lankan Tea with Milk - As a milk tea lover, I was so happy. The ginger and spice blend gave it such warmth, and they even serve it with a piece of brown rock sugar if you want it sweeter. (10/10) * Watalappan - A spiced coconut flan with cashews for crunch -- rich, fragrant, and perfectly balanced. (10/10) * Kiri Peni - High-quality yogurt drizzled with a light sweet syrup -- simple but so good. (9/10) The food came out fairly quickly, and we were done by 2 p.m. The portions are on the smaller side, but with an appetizer, entrée, and dessert, we left feeling satisfied and not bloated. This makes sense since they take pride in using just spices to cook without oil. Prices are a bit high for the portion size, but I would still consider it a gem in Beacon. Check it out! This place is great. Nice simply delicious food. Very vegetarian friendly. Some flavors I've never had before. Ignore reviews about the ambiance not being good, they've moved locations to a very nice places. Homey simple vibe. Great service and good, very enjoyable dinner.

4.5ish really. The place is cute and decorated as one would expect a sri Lankan restaurant in the middle of suburbia. Outside there is a mural of sigiria, a world heritage site in Sri Lanka. Inside there's the tiki painting of an elephant procession, and q large tb set to a sri Lankan cooking channel. On a Sunday at 6:30pm, the place was empty. The owner/ chef/ waiter greeted our group and gave us time to figure out what we wanted. His son helped a bit with the drinks while the chef was cooking. I applaud his efforts! Okay, onto the food. The chick pea appetizer was very mildly flavored, and for me, someone who appreciates the punch of flavor from sri Lankan food, I was disappointed. My friends who don't know sri Lankan food, loved it. So, I guess the chef was catering to the more common palate of the area. The fish cutlets were absolutely delicious! Perfectly spiced and fried tuna balls... one of my friends found them too spicy... The veggie spring roll was like any you'd buy at Costco.. the veggie samosas had a nice thin shell, and the filling basic. The stars: they had hoppers!!! For this reason alone come here. Sri Lankan restaurants are rare here, and serving hoppers whenever you want is even rarer! Hoppers, for those that don't know, are somewhere between a pancake and a dosa.. each one is individually made, therefore very time consuming.. the order came with 3 regular hoppers and an egg hopper. This egg hope was different in that the egg was scrambled, I've usually had then sunny side up.. it wasn't bad though, just different. It also came with a curry of your choice and a bit of pol sambal. I asked for a sri Lankan spiced level fish curry. It was delicious, but not sri Lankan spiced level, it was very mild by sri Lankan standards... and I get it, he's catering to the majority, but when someone asks for sri Lankan levels, they should be sri Lankan levels. He said that recently someone had severe heart burn from the spice. So, I suggest he just confirm with customers...I was looking for the heat... The shrimp curry, was more of a broth.. an extremely delicious broth that was literally drank after the shrimp was eaten. The string hoppers where made with white rice flour. The pol samba was warm and, again not spicy. The eggplant was fantastic! The kutto roti was mushy and very mildly flavored..I was disappointed with it. The pol roti was very firm and had an almost nutty flavor. It was good. The black tea hit the spot, especially with the molasses brown sugar cubes to suck on. If definitely come back of in in the area.

I love going to this place. It feels like going to someone's home for Sri Lankan food. The ambiance is very homely vibe. The service is great. Everything is super fresh. Owners greet you with a big smile and walk you through the menu if you have any questions. Pol roti - delicious. String hopper - great Veg meal -- delicious. I can eat it every day. So comforting.

After passing car dealerships, a Mavis Discount Tire, a laundromat, a Family Dollar, and a Car Wash, I arrived at the Sri Lankan promised land. Red Pepper Diner is a small brick building that looks more like a house or apartment building than a restaurant, but I find these types of restaurants generally have the most character. I walked in at 5:35pm to avoid a dinner rush, but when I opened the brown door, the place was dead. It was only 2 other patrons and I. I stood there awkwardly for a bit as there was no host stand or anything, and just took in the ambiance: Colored tablecloths covering the 8 or so tables with big round placemats at every seat, a few Buddha statues on the window sills, the walls littered with colorful paintings and newspaper clippings with glowing reviews of the place, and a TV playing Sri Lankan ASMR sounds and cooking visuals. It felt more like a spiritual center or a spa than a restaurant. After about 30 seconds, the owner came out and met me with a big smile and a "Just for 1?" He welcomed me to sit anywhere, and I opted on taking a 4 top in the corner as it had the least amount of seating. I sat down with a view of the Foam & Wash Car Wash to my left, and was handed a menu. Off rip, I loved the menu as it was filled with pictures of the food items. I'm sure some people find this tacky, but I love to be able to see what I'm about to order...and don't even get me started on QR codes... The owner was doubling as my waiter, and I asked him what the move was. He kind of recommended everything ahahaha so I just went with one of the House Specialties (Deviled Pork), as I wanted something Sri Lankan authentic, and the Sri Lankan Special Fried Rice because who doesn't like fried rice... I also got an appetizer sampler because I'm a beast. I know what you're thinking, yeah fine, I was a little chunkster... But I came all the way out here and had already logged 20,000 steps by this point so whatever. When I asked the owner if this was too much food, he furrowed his brow and said "No! Just take whatever you don't eat to go..." This was the exact answer I wanted as we both know this was way too much food for one person ahaha. Sometimes I just want someone to tell me what I want to hear. Respect. After ordering and sipping on an Authentic Sri Lankan beer, the food began to roll in. The appetizer sampler was my first victim, with the Vegetable Spring Roll being the standout. Next was the Sri Lankan fried rice with an egg on top, and the presentation was beautiful. It was an amalgamation of fried rice with shrimp, calamari, and chicken garnished with spring onions, fried onions, and fresh coriander sprigs. It was DELICIOUS. I tried to do one of those sexy yolk videos where the egg pours over the rice, but it FLOPPED as I didn't commit hard enough to the slice ahahaha. After I demolished the meal, the owner came over and picked up the clean plate and said, "Look, no oil. Our ingredients the best!" in his heavy accent. He wasn't lyin though! The deviled pork came last, and it was essentially just pork with sauteed onions, peppers, and Traditional Sri Lankan spices. I love how simple, yet flavorful these dishes were. It was filled with flavors my tastebuds have seldom come across, but was fantastic. It was at this point I think the owner saw me taking pictures of the food with my Canon G7X camera, and really turned the hospitality up to 11 ahahahaha. I was pretty full at this point as I had just MOGGED two entrees and an appetizer sampler, but he brought out an authentic Sri Lankan dessert called Kiri Pani for me to try. Kiri Pani is a buffalo curd with a palm sugar syrup. It wasn't for me to be honest ahahaha. My tastebuds felt violated. I did the thing where I kind of mash it around to make it look like I ate more than I did. The food was really starting to settle, so I was FULL at this point. And after that Kiri Pani I just wanted the check, but he brought out another Sri Lankan dessert. I felt like the grinch judging the Who Pudding competition where they are just stuffing desserts in his face as he is just trying to survive ahahaha. But actually, it was super nice and thoughtful. He came over and explained to me what it was but I was so focused on locking in to eat this next dessert that I didn't really hear him. It was something light wrapped in a green little tortilla that tasted coconut flavored. I finished all of it because I'm a warrior, and because it was pretty tasty. I got the check and the owner came up and gave me his business card, and asked me to write reviews on Yelp and google ahahahaha like bro that's literally why I'm here. I got a quota to hit. I paid the $59 tab and walked out. I almost went in the Family Dollar just for shits, but a wise man once told me to stay out of Dollar Stores after the sun goes down. First time trying Sri Lanken food. This place was SOOO tasty and healthy. I had the fried rice house special and they gave me a lot of meat that was packed with flavor. The service was so friendly and let us know what was popular. The ambience was calm and reminded me of home.

My only regret is this restaurant isn't closer! They were playing a relaxing video of the Sri Lankan countryside which set the mood. The server was a bit brusque but he seemed knowledgeable. More importantly everything was delicious -- dhal vade (crunchy!!!), Sri Lankan tea (with milk and a bit of fresh ginger!), watalappan (like a spiced version of flan!!!), deviled pork (super tasty), and OMG the rice and curry goat was outstanding! This is well worth a trip to Beacon!

Not just good - GREAT. Fresh, the most authentic flavors, family run, the warmest mom coming by to say hello, fresh flowers decorating the space - I need you to open a spot in NYC PLEASE! We had the fish cutlet, the dhal vade, the beef curry with string hoppers, and the chicken biriani. All 10 outta 10. I'll be back in Wappinger Falls just for this.

When I saw over 100 people reviewed this restaurant and it had 5-stars, how could I not give this a try. The Sri Lankan food is Gluten free and Dairy free food that will knock your socks off. Seriously a light fare but so satisfying. I begged the owner to sell me a loaf of his banana cake but they don't sell it aside from the buffet. Wish they open one in NYC. Really unassuming exterior since you see diner and you think egg/bacon/etc... but you will be pleasantly surprised. read more

This place is nothing to look at from the outside but inside you're welcomed by different family members that run it. Friday the only option is buffet FYI. The place was full and we showed up with 8 but they took us to the "patio" which is basically outside the back of the restaurant with some lawn chairs but it was great. They'll tell you which dishes you should avoid if you're gluten or dairy free (some in our group were). They make these amazing little crispy thin bowls, like a crepe but thinner and crispier at the beginning of the buffet. Different types of meat (pork, beef and chicken) all in different sauces/curries. Lentil/chickpea dishes and an excellent salad of so many different fresh ingredients I couldn't say what to call it but it was delicious. It's not a huge buffet but the quality is good. We've been here before and ordered off the menu and that was excellent too, curried goat I think. Don't expect good drinks here though, dark or light beer and red or white wine. We go for the authentic food, so doesn't bother us. It will continue to be a regular stop for us since we live so close. read more

What a welcome addition to Beacon! Saman and Tanisia are very welcoming and accommodating owners. Delicious dishes and a great buffet on Fridays and, as we have found, on holidays as well. The eggplant salad is seriously delectable, as is the black curry beef, which is unique to Sri Lankin cuisine. The deviled chicken and shrimp are also yummy. The hoppers (thin, crisp bowl-shaped rice pancakes) are fun to fill. So pleased to add the Red Pepper Diner to our list of consistently good places to go! read more

My husband and I stopped in on a Sunday around 4pm and both had the buffet. While the food was very tasty, it was all cold. Also there were just 4 chaffing dishes on the buffet with a total of 10 items. The price for this was $17.99 per person. We really did enjoy our meal but it was severely overpriced. When you want to splurge, I would recommend it and would suggest going early so as to get hot food. read more

I've only had the Sri Lankan food at the Red Pepper Diner, but, boy was it good! I really enjoyed the Deviled Chicken. Not too Spicey, but very flavorful! It's mostly dairy free too, so if that is good for you, you'll love it. All in all, great Sri Lankan food and very hospitable owners. read more

I am a longtime fan of Indian food, but I had never had Sri Lankan food before my son and I visited the Red Pepper Diner on Thanksgiving this year. What a thrill to discover this wonderful cuisine! I had some calamari and the spicy chicken curry, my son had a seafood and rice dish ( which name I can't recall ) and everything was delectable. The decor is colorful, with an island resort ambiance; the owner and his wife are charming, and they thoughtfully offer an American menu for those who prefer it, as well as a kid's menu. As far as we were concerned, the Sri Lankan menu had enough choices to keep us coming back. My chicken dish was one of the best I've ever eaten, and there was enough on the plate to require a small take-home container. I am thankful that the owner, who wasn't sure if he'd be open on Thanksgiving, called me back on the day I'd called to inquire, and said he would be open until 6:00. One of my most memorable Thanksgiving days! read more

Holy cats, this place is awesome!! We kept hearing about it from locals and read the reviews. Amazing food! And coming from NYC the bar is high. We had the lunch buffet and were blown away. Very delicious and each buffet option unique and distinctive. Owners were so sweet and informative explaining the cuisine, tea, Sri Lankan plants used etc. New favorite restaurant! read more

Refreshing bit of culture in Dutchess County. The meals offered are of outstanding quality and taste, not to mention the owner is just lovely. This place is a gem! My first intro to Sri Lankan food, and it was delicious. We came for the buffet brunch and got to a try a lot of different dishes, each more delicious than the previous. The owners were especially welcoming and very proud to share and talk about the food of their culture. It really was a great experience and as all the other reviews point out, the food was ridiculously good. Also, a nice aspect is that they have an American food menu so, if you have picky kids, they can order off that menu where everything is actually really good too. read more

I love this place! I ordered delivery after stopping in to grab a menu. I wasn't expecting the food to be so great; it's a small diner on 9D, but they were right on my way home. I have to say: I am so impressed by them! The food is always soooo good. I am addicted to the Red Pepper Chef's Burger. The pasta bolognese was really, really good too. Each time I get delivery I get a consistently exceptional meal that is tasty, arrives quickly and is still hot. The order is always correct (that is highly unusual for delivery around here) and the staff is pleasant as can be. I haven't dined in the restaurant yet, but I was told they now have live music. I gave them 4 stars because I think they definitely have room to expand the menu and take it to the next level. Give them a try! A very nice addition to the neighborhood. We just learned about this amazing little Sri Lankan restaurant and had to try it out. My goat biryani and my husband's Kothu Roti were wonders of deliciously complex seasoning. We also enjoyed the Lion Stout, brewed in Ceylon. We will definitely be back! read more

This is a genuinely unique place. We had never had Sri Lankan food so were very curious. It was highly recommended by locals and they were SO right. One of us is vegan, the other a flexitarian and both were happy with our choices. I highly recommend the curried lentils, eggplant, vegetarian fried rice and of course the beautiful lacy hoppers. My husband had the chicken and pork stir fry dishes. And he loved the Sri Lankan beer! Don't miss this place! read more

First time trying Sri Lankan food, so not an expert on it. Thoroughly enjoyed everything. I had Pol Roti, boyfriend had Biryani, with sides of Dal and Beets. Holy Cow Delicious, coconut major flavoring. Perfect for parties with diners who want to order from American Menu and Sri Lankan. Family friendly place, don't let the outside deter you. Although we couldn't get to the Red Pepper diner on a Friday night for the Sri Lankan buffet, we followed the recommendations on yelp to ask about the Sri Lankan "menu". After the owner asked us a few questions about the type of food we like and the level of spiciness we like, he made us a special dinner for two. It was heavenly--the smells, the tastes, and the friendly atmosphere. They're planning to actually have a menu soon but don't hesitate to ask if that's the food you want. We went back for breakfast another day--omelet, pancakes and waffles were all excellent. The owner/chef has worked in 5-star restaurants around the globe, he's thrilled to own his own business finally, and it shows. BTW, it looks very unassuming outside but don't hesitate to go in. You'll be SO pleasantly surprised. read more

Been here twice, authentic Sri Lanka dishes. Tried rice biryani, then deviled calamari. The owners are very friendly and will help you explain. This is very different than indian dishes. They have Friday night buffet, will try that next time. read more

Very delicious food. We had a Greek salad with Shrimp and it was very organic, and very delicious. The deserts are very delicious here. Customer service is the best ever. This place is the place to go to. I would definitely go again, and enjoy the food there again. read more

While driving up to Phoenicia, my family and I stopped here for dinner looking for a regular diner. I was pretty confused by the reviews, and more confused when we got there and the menu had zero Sri Lankan specialties on it. But the waiter/chef/owner told us he would just give us a little of some dishes, he kind of ordered for us in a confusing way, and said it wouldn't be spicy so our son could eat it. But I love spicy food and they told me they would make me something special. I had also asked for string hoppers, which are my absolute favorite, and I haven't had any really good ones since I was in Trivandrum like eleven years ago. Anyway, we played in the parking lot, and saw their little yard was packed with all sorts of vegetables. I knew I could trust them, only good cooks care about growing food, too. The chef called us in with a big smile and told us the food was ready. I couldn't believe how much he prepared in such a short time. Chicken curry, dal, a dry coconut curry, string hoppers (rice noodles), and a spicy raw onion chutney. It was crazy, none of the food was spicy hot spicy, but instead was complexly flavored and really interesting and different. I eat South Indian food a lot, and this left nothing to be desired. I can't tell you what to order, since I got the idea they just make whatever they have on hand that day based on availability and freshness. I highly recommend this place to anyone in the area or anyone passing through. Totally worth a stop. read more

We recently moved to the Wappingers Falls area and passed this place several times. Yelped it and saw favorable reviews. Stopped in Wednesday night and had dinner. Wow. Salman and his wife opened the restaurant three months ago so menu is rather light at this point. We ordered Mediterranean appetizer which was very good. For dinner I had the Chicken Paillard and my wife ordered Thai Salad with chicken (requested). Appetizer was well prepared and very good. Chicken for both dinners was tender, moist and well seasoned. Portion size was also generous for both meals. For dessert we ordered Creme Brûlée. Excellent, surface just enough caramelization but not burnt. Service was also gracious and attentive. We will recommend this restaurant and look forward to our next visit! read more

My wife and I thought we'd try out this place after passing it on 9D for months and reading the good reviews. Did not know what to expect and was very pleasantly surprised. The dual menu features a small assortment of Sri Lankan ((Indian) food which I sampled, and my wife enjoyed a large Greek salad. My food was delicious and not overly spicy. Washed it down with a very tasty and robust Sri Lankan stout recommended by our waiter/owner. The service was extremely friendly and prompt. Will definitely return to sample more of the menu and will also give their breakfast a try. read more

Awesome restaurant that you would never notice if you were just driving by. They have an American menu and a Sri Lankan menu. We ordered a few of the Sri Lankan dishes and they were amazing! (After finishing our entrees, we ordered 2 more to go.) I didn't try anything from the American menu, but it's nice to know it's there in case you're in the mood for that type of cuisine. (But you should order the Sri Lankan food!) read more

Don't judge a book by its cover. This place is really good and authentic. Came here twice in one week. Definitely try the Sri Lankan menu! I recommend the Devilled Chicken, Biryani, and Kothu Roti. It's a family owned restaurant. The owners are super friendly and proud of their culture. read more

Went there for Dance night. Had a wonderful time. Seems like a Family run Business. There was a buffet for $10.00. We didn't eat anything, because we had our own BBQ earlier in the day. We will be back to try their food. They welcomed us with open friendly arms, and introduced their 2 Beautiful Children into our dance party. The staff was Super Friendly. Wanted to try this place for brunch and so I ordered a big plate of pancakes with fruits. They were delicious. One thing I have to point out, however, is that they are a bit too sweet. If you are looking for a good burger this is the place. I rarely will change it up unless I'm feeling adventurous. Every native dish I have tried has been delicious. Looking forward to coming back to try some new Asian food. read more
