It's our 1st time here today, and we came for some sushi. I have to say, it exceeded our expectations. We were pleasantly surprised! Fish were fresh, and the choices are extensive! They actually offer fish from Japan. Fish we have never heard of before, and we have had a lot of sushi from different parts of the country. The prices are also reasonable for what you're paying. We were told by the owner that he gets his fish from Japan every Wednesday, so that's the best day to come. Staff is also very friendly and attentive. We can't wait to come back! read more

This place easily takes my #1 in sushi for Sarasota. Prior to choosing sushi for dinner I perused the comments here taking notice to the sushi chef from Hoshi Sushi in Gulf Gate, a fav. I may not be part of the Florida Sushi Connoisseur's Club but I have dined with one at a favorite hole in the wall in St. Pete. I'd say this place will rival if not surpass since the cleanliness is above. Everyone in our party found a roll they loved, I think the Mexican will satisfy a picky eater. We also had the goyza rolls, edamame, and bao buns, pork and chicken, latter of which had my son asking for more before our meals came. I would like to see some fresh crab on the menu, although they do a wonderful krab, I always prefer the option for sweet crab. Look forward to visiting again soon read more

We had a wonderful time and dinner at Red Plum last night. There were six of us, and all of us enjoyed sharing appetizers. Each had their own entrée. It's a pleasant place with friendly family owners. The Hawaiian roll was enjoyed by two and both absolutely loved them. The appetizers were great, including the spicy, edamame and the pot stickers. The fried rice with vegetables needed a few more vegetables in my opinion, but it was very tasty. The chicken hibachi meal looked delicious, and was that was confirmed by our friend! And the shrimp tempura with vegetables was also very good. All the sushi we had - which was a variety of rolls - were very good. We will be back. The prices are appropriate for the servings. if you get a desire for good Asian food and for some fresh sushi go to this place it's delightful. read more

ambiance is totally void in this restaurant. It opened two months ago without patching the peeling walls. One side of the restaurant is booths and tables the sushi bar side is all hi-top tables. I gave it a four because I thought the sashimi was worth it & the presentation was beautiful as well. It was a good selection of choice fish which included Japanese snapper & seemed hand cut.The pork belly bao was delicious with hoisin sauce & thinly sliced, crisp cucumber. My friend ordered the salmon bento box which fell short of her expectations because the salmon was overcooked. The service was good & pricing competitive. Discovered Red Plum on Reddit after the retirement of our favorite sushi chef after decades of enjoyment. We found Red Plum to be clean and relaxed. Our host, "TJ" orders fish direct from Japan twice a week and he carried a wide variety of fish that are fresh and delicious. There is an extensive menu of sushi, sashimi, appetizers along with kitchen dishes like Teriyaki and katsu. TJ is a master chef and is very personable. I am also pleased that they serve lunch and have some very inexpensive and satisfying lunch specials. I recommend the sushi & sashimi lunch special in particular. There are also desserts including ice creams and mochi. Prices are reasonable, service is friendly and capable and the choices many. Nice people and good food! read more

We have always liked his unique spin on favorites and it has continued here. We are true fans and loyal loyal loyal because it is worth it. The service is outstanding as well. The only con I'll give has nothing to do with Red Plum. Beware the parking police two stores down. Wonderful beef broth base with well seasoned beef dumplings. Followed by a seaweed salad. The Banzai roll was top notch. Moved on to nigiri, the Red Snapper and Uni were flown in from Japan.
