I finally decided to try this restaurant because I have heard so many great things about it. I love when a restaurant has an easy but great lunch menu, and Red River did not disappoint. To start, they bring you, of course, chips and salsa, and the chips were so fresh and absolutely tasty. Nothing worse than going to a Mexican restaurant and getting greasy and nasty chips. We started with the pick two option. We got a cheese enchilada and steak quesadillas, came with rice and beans. Then we got a chicken tacos, carbon and a cheese enchilada. The cheese enchilada was absolutely one of the best I have ever tasted, and I could've eaten an entire plate of these. It was the perfect balance of different types of cheeses and perfectly melted. It just melted in your mouth. The sauce was terrific and not spicy at all. The steak quesadilla was again another perfect blend of cheeses with the perfect balance of steak. The steak fajita was seasoned to perfect perfection and not spicy and not greedy. I highly recommend you try these. I have not had Mexican food this good in a long time and this restaurant is now going on my list of favorites. We had amazing customer service and our server was so nice and so on top of everything I think he was top-notch. If you have never tried red River Cantina, you do not know what you are missing. Great HH! I got their big chalice of beers for about $5 each. I see why folks hangout at the bar for most of the day there. I got one for myself and a buddy and it lasted us throughout dinner. They also have appetizers marked down for HH. I for one just focused on beers. For a Friday night, this place was busy, but not packed. No wait times, just straight to the table. Three different kinds of salsa came out with a good abundance of chips. I ordered the shrimp quesadilla and the wife ordered some taco bowl. Portion sizes were great, but man did they cheese up my quesadilla good. Too much cheese for my tastes. However I understand why people love it all caked on. Great taste, just way too much cheeze for me. I had to fish out my shrimp from the yellow goo to eat it. The taco bowl was way too salty for me. The beans itself was overly salted, which permeated through each bite. It provided a good amount of food, but overall too salty. Unfortunately, dinner didn't quite cut it for me. First of all, my wife and I have been going to Red River Cantina since it opened. Always great food and service. On Friday 9/11, we went there for dinner. I am sad to say that the food was not good, and service just ok. I do not not know what has changed, but at 6:30 PM on a Friday the place is normally busy, but there was only a few people there. My husband and I took my mom here for dinner and we had 1 pound beef fajitas and chicken flautas. With blanco queso to pair with our complementary chips and dip . Get the beef fajitas. The beef is so tender and moist. It's freaking amazing. I regretted getting the flautas. Get the beef fajitas. The tortilla they use is so nice and fluffy. A pound of beef fajitas, blanco queso, and a dish of chicken flautas is enough for three people with some leftovers for one lunch the next day. Our waitress was super sweet and very quick and totally understanding that we are trying to make sure that my mom doesn't pay the bill . The restaurant is definitely decked out in holiday decoration. Besides that they do have a very stereotypical Tex-Mex decor. And they have their artistic age of the walls. This building was built fairly recently and they are the first business owner of this building. There's also free parking out front . We stopped in for happy hour, which is 2:30-6:30, Mon-Sun and all day on Tuesday. We had the mini queso as an appetizer, which was good. We also had the Grand Gold Margarita and Red River Swirl, which are both on happy hour and they were good as well. We had the Enchiladas Marisco, one with Mexican rice and beans and one with Mexican rice and charro beans. The enchiladas are very cheesy because it's two cheese enchiladas with shrimp and scallops on top. They are gooey and good, but I couldn't finish it all. Came in for thirsty Thursday sat at bar servers were very friendly however they didn't have enough staff to support the customers we waited a while for our order to be taken- refill on margaritas. Our party of 8 were seated promptly and greeted by our waiter Adrian about as quick. Ordered our drinks and a side of white queso. The Queso showed up without the chips. About 5 or so minutes later two baskets of chips arrived, but were extremely greasy. Mentioned to Adrian and he apologized and brought another 2 baskets. They were a little better but still glistened, by now our queso had began to thicken. Both the "green" sauce and the red was very tasty. Being we were a larger group we decided to get one of the two family platter. The group decided they liked the beef fajitas over the chicken. I thought both had a good taste. The Parillada platter had fajitas, ribs and shrimp. I thought they were the best thing with that platter. The ribs were fall off the bone with a tangy BBQ sauce and bacon wrapped shrimp can't go wrong. We had an individual that was allergic to shrimp, Adrian had the shrimp on a completely separate platter. We thought that was very considerate. The second platter (Grandioso) had fajitas and two types of enchiladas (cheese and ranch chicken). I thought the cheese enchiladas was the better of the two. The chicken while not bad, had a flavor that I did not care too much for. I'll probably try Red River again, being there were more positives than negatives. read more

After more than a year in operation, I made first visit to Red River Cantina at the Richmond location. They have a very large presence in an area of many fast food restaurants. The building is very bright, colorful and the parking lot stays full of cars. I sat in the bar area where the bartender provided great service and made excellent margaritas. My meal was Grilled Red Fish with Cilantro Rice and Black Beans. The fish was perfect, the rice and beans were delicious. Red River Cantina serves some stellar Tex-Mex dishes in a beautiful, spacious, instagrammable space! Vibe: Everytime we pass by this place, it's always packed, and our dining experience was no different. We came on Father's day, which was an even more crowded time, and we ended up waiting 45 minutes which wasn't surprising. There's a lot of outdoor patio space to wait with tables and chairs, and a decent amount of space indoors to wait as well. The exterior and interior of the restaurant are beautifully decorated, and you may want to snap a selfie in almost every spot. Inside, each dining area has a slightly different experience and ambience, which is really cool. Lots of space and seating makes it a good place for parties- we had a party of 12 and we were seated comfortably. Service: Once we were seated, the servers were extremely attentive and kind. They got all 12 of our orders correct, kept our drinks full, and rotated out the chips and salsa regularly. Food: The table ordered a variety of things, including beef and chicken fajitas, enchiladas, taco salad, carnitas, and pollo marisco. Everyone was impressed by the food and found it incredibly delicious! The chips and salsa were standard fare, nothing special. We personally had the taco salad and carnitas. The taco salad was enormous and included some perfectly cooked steak atop a huge bed of lettuce and other veggies, and a big crunchy tortilla! It's definitely enough for more than 1 person honestly. Everything tasted fresh, and the steak was tender and flavorful. The carnitas was equally amazing. We were surprised to find that it was not shredded, but whole pieces, which was concerning at first as I thought it may be dry. Instead, it was very juicy, tender, and packed with flavor! Definitely one of the best carnitas I have ever had, and the sautéed onions were a great complement to the meat. It also comes with guac, red onions, lime, and flour tortillas so you can make some killer tacos. It's a little expensive, but standard pricing for good Tex-Mex, and 100% worth it in our opinion. Overall, Red River Cantina is an excellent Tex-Mex restaurant that is definitely worth the wait if you are looking for delicious Tex-Mex. This place is Let's Eat Houston approved! read more

I'd like to give this place a solid 4. But there's some minor end-to-end customer experiences that need to be addressed. Went for lunch same day as Super Bowl so bar area is packed. However, family seating was nice and quiet due to everyone want to pack in for the game. Experience 1) Short hostess when asked about outside seating said they weren't seating anyone outside today. Cool, I repeated what she said and then she murmured to hr counterpart right in front of my face: "What did he not hear what I just said?". I realize it's hard to comprehend that my kids would like to enjoy your recreational area but you would not like to over exert the wait staff (eye roll). But try your best to smile and maybe drop a few pounds. You are the first representation of the business. Great first impression (slow clap). A reason why would've been a good response vs RBF. Experience 2) We have a solid waitress. To the point, thought things ahead. She was probably busy and could've checked on us a little bit more but a a solid job. She made sure to check the detail of our order and caught the short order cook's mistake. Experience 3) Outcome of the food. Tacos Al Cabon , and Bacon Wrapped grilled shrimp. Nicely done. Pricey for a weekend for beef version but it is what it is. Kids cheese burgers though came back unfortunately burnt after they tried to add cheese to it from the first time. The better approach would've just been to nuke the slice on the bread instead of try to refire the whole bun onto the burger. The meat wasn't burnt. But I suspect it's a training thing. Experience 4) Exit 2nd co-hostess and waiter nice solid thank you and good byes definitely making up for the low energy semi negative impression from the first hostess. As others have given this place a fairly bad review; just keep in mind the collective experience vs a piece. A little more training and tuning could easily take this place to the next level. I think even on this place's worst day- it's still better than Pablo's. (Seriously, what is with people in this zip code over that place? Edit: today was not good starting with the host on duty having no smile or expression all the way to the kitchen staff making all of the food overly salty. On top of that they are trying to train a group or new staff all during the dinner rush. Not sure when I will be back. If you love good Tex-Mex this is the place. I've have the food here both to-go and while eating at the restaurant. The service is top tier the staff is very friendly and helpful when explaining menu choices. I am severely disappointed with the service I had this week at this location. I was sat by a woman that goes by the name of Vanessa. Not only will I be writing this review but I will also be making a formal complaint due to comments made (that I would prefer to not say). Not only was the service bad, but I overheard her talking with another server and it made me very uncomfortable. She was very unprofessional and I am not going to accept it. The food was amazing, but I will NEVER return due to the lack of professionalism displayed. Catering service was outstanding! The entire process was handled smoothly and professionally. All food and supplies were well packed and made the 45 minute trip to LaGrange with no issues. For the 3rd year in a row our MS 150 team has enjoyed the food from Red River Cantina and they all talk about how they look forward to it! I ordered the Veracruz, and while the flavor was nice, the portion size felt a bit underwhelming for the price. The beef fajitas were slightly overcooked, but not a dealbreaker. On the other hand, my wife ordered the Pick Two Combo, and hers was generously portioned and delicious, so there was a bit of inconsistency there. The atmosphere is great--spacious and comfortable, which we really appreciated. The margaritas were solid, too. Overall, I'd recommend this place. Sunday lunch 1pm. Place pretty dead. Food was ok and price wasn't awful. Service was very lacking. Lots of empty tables but slow to get tea/water. Really slow to take order. Eventually chips came 5 minutes after we ordered. Food server didn't know who got what. Asked for refill of empty glass and the guy got to it eventually after he took orders and filled another table drinks. Even paying the bill and getting a receipt took a number of minutes and multiple trips. Just awful. So maybe sit at the bar, maybe better service. read more

Another family friendly Tex-mex in the neighborhood, and this place has quite a happening vibe! Its in the neighborhood and I pass by pretty often, and its always packed. Parking lot is full throughout the week. Great outdoor lighting and a beautiful and welcoming outdoor waiting area. On my two visits, we had an approximate 45 mins wait time. However, it was shorter than 45 mins both the times. We dint mind waiting since we could chill out in their outdoor waiting area. You can take a drink from the bar while waiting. Coming to food, I loved their quesadillas. Also, liked the chicken fajitas. They have a vegetarian menu as well. The margaritas were great. Indoor ambience is vibrant and fun. There's TV screens or if you get a window seat, great looking outside while you eat. They don't accept reservations over phone. So, be prepared to wait. read more

It might not become my favorite, and I might not make the effort to come often (I don't live nearby), but I was in the neighborhood today, and I'm glad I finally had the opportunity try this place. It was a good experience. I like that there was a happy hour in the middle of the day on a Sunday, and there were loads of choices for drinks and meals. The cheese enchilada on my combo plate was excellent, and the refried beans had a nice texture (better than those that are like a pulverized paste). I took my family here and we had such a great experience thanks to our server, Darrion, and his manager, Brandon. Darrion was incredibly nice and patient, even though the restaurant was really busy. He stayed calm, kind, and attentive the entire time - never once made us feel rushed or overlooked. That kind of service goes a long way and really stood out to me. I also have to mention Brandon, the manager. He was super hands-on and genuinely personable, making rounds to check in on tables and make sure everyone was taken care of. You can tell he really cares about both his staff and the customers' experience. It's rare to see that level of teamwork and professionalism, especially during a busy shift.
