We stopped by with friends after doing an escape room next door. They start out with the typical chips & salsa- both red & green. I preferred the red & hubs preferred the green. Cadillac margaritas- taste the orange liquor in the frozen; on the rocks can't taste the orange but it's a nice tart lime, The original marg is delicious. The consistency of the frozen margs is nice....easy to drink with the straw and not mixed so much that it turns to liquid. Shrimp tacos- tortilla was soggy, shrimp nicely seasoned. The nachos were good with crunchy chip and tender beef. Service was fine. We were the only ones in there so we would've expected a bit more attention. The drinks are the best thing on the menu! The service is very good but the food is bland and tasteless.

Great food at reasonable prices and the people are amazing. We shared a mixed beef and chicken fajitas plate. We always have to get a couple of ground beef enchiladas any time we try a new place....these were really really great. We loved the queso and guacamole. We have been coming here for years. Today, we had the tacos Al carbon and the La bandera. In both, the food and meat was fresh. It was hot and tasty. This location is actually right down the street from where we live. Not even a mile from us. We always drove past it every day since it was in our daily commute. Granted I do prefer my salsa's warm but nonetheless, the flavor was there. The reason I'm giving 5 stars is from a value standpoint. Every dish we ordered was big enough to feed 2 people. I ordered the carne asada, which included a giant piece of skirt steak with the sides and rice and beans for $28. I'm used to paying double the price and receiving half the portion size at other more well known spots. The steak was of a good quality and although I found some parts of it to be a little under seasoned, I thoroughly enjoyed it and the portion size more than made up for it. My wife and mother in law order off the Tex Mex combo menu and were served heaping plates of food. We had plenty to take home as leftovers for tomorrow. We also ordered queso as an appetizer, although it was a pretty basic yellow queso, the consistency was good and the flavor was there. Overall, I feel Ruthie's is criminally underrated and the reviews here don't give it enough credit. Is it on the level of Pablo's or Pappasito's? The house Margaritas were slightly sour, but I like them that way.My wife ordered the vegetable tortilla soup and a side salad. we had to bring the salad home as well as part of the soup, which was so full of good vegetables, she couldn't finish it. Didn't feel like drinks so just got water which tasted straight from the tap with a slice of lemon which helped to cover the tap water flavor. The food was good and served quickly and hot. My platter included carnitas which was really REALLY tasty. Rest of the meal was good but nothing extraordinary. This place is near my house we went on a Friday. As soon as we walked in this lady was there beside us and we told her we needed a table for two. She just kept looking the other way where everyone was sitting with an upset face and then turns around and walked between me and my sister without even saying excuse me. That ticked us off. If we wouldn't have stepped to the side she was going to probably push us off. It turns out she wasn't even the hostess. We're still waiting at the entrance and finally the hostess comes and sits us down. The piña colada was good, my sisters margarita was definitely watered down, it tasted like there was only a small amount of alcohol. My street tacos were ok, the meat still looked a little pink. The green sauce tasted like nothing. The red sauce had more flavor! I tried my sisters flautas and that chicken definitely needs more seasoning it was so bland. All I tasted was the flour from the fried tortilla. It was definitely busy this Friday considering the astros were playing too. After we placed it, our waitress was nowhere to be found. I had to flag her down for more salsa and the queso we had ordered. By then we had no chips, and they were not refilled. She avoided all eye contact and would frequently check on the large table next to us. Could care less about us. I understand the possible profits and tips that come from a big 10 top, but please do not neglect your other tables, that are essentially paying 20+ a person, and have been coming for years. The food was okay, definitely not bad, but not worth the price either, and not as good as it used to be. Not much cheaper than Papasito's and the service was terrible. At over 40 dollars for two people, I expected much more food and service wise. I've had better service at fast food joints, and it's hard because I have been going to Ruthie's for years now. Frustrated because I drove from Houston to go to the nostalgic mexican restaurant from my teen years, only to be ignored and given such poor service. Saw the owner multiple times, tried to flag him down or make extremely obvious eye contact: nothing. Was frustrated further when I had to flag the waitress down again for the check. The funniest part is, the large table had now been replaced with another large party, who all had their drinks, queso and chips within minutes. One of the patrons of the large party noticed how annoyed we were and noted it to their party. Ordered stuffed jalapenos as an appetizer and they were borderline burnt. she finally brought puff cheese and it was stale like it had been sitting there all day. This is 8:30 at night.
