So I bought one head light and asking my grandpa if he can put it the light in for me, so ended up driving to this place. I walked in asking if they can put one head light in for me. Our truck overheated about seven hours from home on our way into Sedona. Red Rock Auto was referred by AAA so we had our car towed there. It was after closing when we got the truck there, however, the owner Bill, was still there and was super helpful, even after hours. He got us set up to have our car worked on the next morning and even went above and beyond and gave us a ride to our hotel. I'm solo driving and on the second half of a cross country roadtrip, in a rented vehicle. The check engine light came on and the car just wasn't driving right. It was due for an oil change and I had stopped in Sedona. I walked in with no appointment and they immediately began to help. The spark plugs I needed weren't in stock, but instead of keeping the car overnight (which would have made things very complicated for me) they actually went and picked up the parts in another nearby town. I was out and done in time for a sunset hike and the car drives noticeably better. They were so helpful, even knowing they aren't going to get a repeat customer from a tourist passing through. We were on a 30-day road trip and our BMW check engine light came on. Red Rock Auto Center had great reviews so we just drove over. They took us right in and started looking at the error codes. We had been at high elevation, so they replaced the oil and filter (at our request), cleared the error codes and got us on our way. The engine light came back on the next day, so we went back. Again they took us in and were able to find a recall that required a software update that only BMW can do. Gave us copies of all the codes and the recall and didn't charge us a thing. They worked on it for about an hour - and no charge. Great shop, great customer service and really what we needed! read more

We found pack rat damage under the hood about noon a day before we planned to leave for a 1200-mile round-trip road trip. After the first place we called said they couldn't even look at the vehicle for a couple days, Red Rock Auto agreed to look it over. They ran a diagnostic on the extent of the damage, and said they'd do what they could. By 5:00 p.m., they let us know we'd have the vehicle back about noon the next day. It actually took a little longer (about 1:30), but still got us on the road in great shape, taking the time to check fluid levels and tire pressure, etc. And all this fitting us in to a full schedule of other customers. They'll definitely be our first call for all future service needs. read more

It seems like this is a common theme with reviews for this auto repair shop, but we found ourselves thousands of miles from home with the need to replace the alternator on our Chevy Traverse. After puttering into the parking lot at the nearest auto parts store, we were faced with the reality that the problem wasn't as simple as replacing the battery as we had hoped. The employee recommended two shops for repair - this one and another that stated that they wouldn't be able to get to our vehicle until the following day. I called these guys, and they said to get it over to them, and they would take a look. Well...our vehicle was then dead on the ground and unable to make the short trip. We called again, and an angel on a motorcycle showed up within 5 minutes, called the towing service associated with their shop, the car was towed to the shop within 15 minutes, and the repair work was completed before we planned to leave town for the day. I was even able to make it to the Jeep tour that we had planned while they were working on my car. What could have been a very stressful situation ended up being manageable because of their swift response to our crisis and their ability to make it seem like it wasn't such a tragedy. I was even able to enjoy my time in Sedona despite what was going on with our car (since it could have easily railroaded our epic roadtrip), because of the efficiency and competent attitude of the employees. Some family friends we're borrowing my 2018 Chevy Tahoe while visiting and went to Sedona for a few days. The battery unfortunately died on them and they bought a new battery at O'Reilly auto parts and took it to red rock to you have them install it. I called red rock and spoke with Michael in advance and said my family was in a tough spot and they needed some help installing a new battery really quick so they could make it home to Phoenix in time for their flight. Michael said no problem and that they could help out. I said "great they will be their soon". He never mentioned any kind of price or rate etc. My family goes and gets the battery installed and Michael calls me and says the total is $65!!!! I literally laughed on the phone and thought he was joking but he wasn't. How could the easiest mechanical task on a car that takes 10-15 minutes cost $65? And why wasn't this mentioned on the phone when I asked him is this could be done? I'm not someone to ask for anything for free but at least be upfront and tell your customers what the cost will be. If I was with my family I would have borrowed the tools from O"Reilly's auto parts and changed it myself. Michael said it took the mechanic 25 minutes to switch out the battery which has to be so far from the truth. My wife has switched out a battery in under 20 minutes before. He said if it took him less than 20 minutes then they only charge $20. Somehow another 5 minutes costs $45???? Seems like they have the slowest techs in the world that can't swap out a battery that only requires 3 bolts to switch out in under 20 minutes. My opinion, they are nice on the phone but they will take advantage of you and price gouge you for anything they can. read more

We were vacationing in Sedona with our Jeep when I noticed one day before hitting a trail one of my control arm Johnny joints came apart; the snap ring popped out and the joint had to be pressed back together. I called all Jeep tour companies in town for recommendation on where to take my Jeep and I was shocked at how unhelpful these people were. Weird. Anyway, I started calling random shops and no one would help me out to even look at it before the next day. Most said it would be a couple days. Mind you it was 10 am and I had already removed the control arm and I had all the components of the Johnny joint in perfect condition just needed it pressed back together. Then I called Red Rock Auto Center and spoke with Michael. I explained what I needed and Michael was like, yeah no problem, bring it in and we'll take care of you. Michael and Steven one of the awesome mechanics there at Red Rock did exactly that. I own two BMWs. X5 4.8i and 535i XDrive. Both cars have always been serviced by the BMW dealerships. To do that, I have to drive to Phoenix and depending on schedule, I sometimes get caught in traffic, which is rather unpleasant. Each time I drive there, I lose 4 hours, just to change oil, brake fluid, or coolant. So I thought I might look for something closer and found the Red Rock Auto Center in Sedona. I decided to pay them a visit to find out who they are and what they can do. It's a tiny shop with dusty cars around. As I tried to find a parking spot on uneven gravel, a girl approached me and asked me what I wanted. Another woman with a baby strapped to her chest was working on a Volkswagen battery, while talking with a Snap on Tools truck driver. I told the girl I had some questions, but I wanted to park my car fist and talk to her in the office. When I got out of my car, she asked again what I was looking for. I told her my story and explained to her I wanted to find out what the shop could do for me. She said they had two mechanics, charge $200 per hour (BMW charges me $150), and work on any car models. Bill doesn't work any more, got divorced, and his wife doesn't work in the office any more either. I asked where they buy parts from. She said .. from different places. I asked her if I could talk to a mechanic. She said no. She held her hand above her eyes to shield them from the sun. It all felt uncomfortable to me so I asked her if we could step in the office. I asked how much they would charge me for a brake fluid change. She said $115. I wondered how it could be $115 when she just told me they charged $200 per hour. She replied she didn't include labor to it yet. I found it interesting. BMW would charge me $230 (215.97 labor, 12.26 parts). So I asked .. can you add labor to it so I know what I am looking at? She said she would have to see the car. I pointed at is and said ... it's here. She said they would have to look at it. Somebody opened the door and I decided to take advantage of it. I was thinking ... that's weird, no straight answer. No chance to talk to mechanic. Not knowing where parts are coming from. Are they OME? Two mechanics, one of them with a baby on her chest. Kind of scary. So I eased out and decided to check the reviews. And sure enough, it didn't help. So I guess I will keep driving to Phoenix, listening to the radio, stress free. And keep saving money. Dropped off my sons 97 Chevy for constant oil leak. They pressure washed the undercarriage, found the two critical leak points, one being the crank sensor, and the other being oil cooler fitting by the filter. They sent documented photos of the leaks, and upon my approval, made the repairs. Excellent job done! During their inspection. Found several coolant bypass hoses that were rotted and needed repair. So thankful as it would have been a disaster on the road. Great honest work. read more

We make a trip to Sedona for a timeshare we own a few times a year and this year while coming down the I17 grade into Camp Verde, I noticed that I was starting to get a violent shaking from the front end of my truck (2010 Chevy 1/2-ton). I immediately called RRA&C having driven past their shop probably hundreds of times before and while they weren't open going into the weekend, they were able to pencil me in Monday morning. I dropped my truck off and was assisted by Michael who was very friendly and attentive. I explained to him what I had felt, but asked that they do a full inspection anyways. Michael gave me a call a couple hours later and thoroughly explained the problem to me and it boiled down to the rotors, two of which could be resurfaced and the two rears which he strongly suggested replacing due to excessive warpage. I authorized the repairs and had my truck back same day for what I would consider to be about a pretty average price around where I live. Although I had a feeling the vibration was caused by warped rotors, I was relieved to hear that's all it was. Seeing as I don't live in Sedona, I cant say RRA&C will be my primary auto repair facility, but I would strongly recommend them to locals and would not hesitate to use them when in town. They replaced a few wire harnesses and cleared my lights. Also did the back brakes. I picked the car up and within 15 minutes all the check engine lights came on. I called but my calls went to voicemail. The owner called me back and said he would take a look. He told me one of the wire harnesses they installed was defective. He said it will drive and they can fix it when I come back from my trip. I tried many times to make an appointment but my messages were not answered and always went straight to voiceman. I finally got them to take my call. My car sat from Friday until Monday. They never fixed the wire harness. They said they had other codes for other things. The owner seemed like a good guy when I talked to him. He told me my car would not start immediately. I takes up to 60 senconds because of the bad wire harness. THey did not fix the defective harness after having my care for 2 days. Do not trust them. They do not care! read more

I dealt with Red Rock Auto prior to my recent experience in April 2023 and had previously experienced a bit pricey for the repairs they had completed. Even spoke to the owner Bill about it. Now once again more than just pricey but I believe PRICE GOUGING!!! And WAY OVER PRICING YOUR SERVICES!!! Don't blame it on prices of parts, NOT TRUE!!! I understand prices have increased but not so true when other quotes are much less. I took my car in with prior appointment made to RED ROCK AUTO for an oil change and front brake replacement. Was asked by Bill the owner if I could leave the car for a day, sure no problem I stated. Upon arrival I stated I could leave the car for two days if needed. Thinking time for part's deliver, etc.. After not hearing anything from Red Rock Auto the second day at 2pm, I called. Someone else answered and asked when did I bring the car in? I stated yesterday morning at 8am. He said; I'm sorry no one informed me, I'll get right on it and call you back in 30 minutes. After over an hour not hearing I called again. The oil change was NOW done but you guessed it not the brakes. The owner Bill offered his truck full of gas for the remaining of that day and the next day and it's ready to go. I'm on my way to either pick up my car or use his truck. Bill stated okay I'll work up an estimate for the brakes. I left with my car and estimate in hand to bring my car back in in two days. After calling around and checking prices, three competitors of RRA. Quotes of up to a couple hundred less to less that half the price. Yes that's right that much of a difference. Red Rock Auto front rotor and ceramic pads brake replacement estimate was $768.00!!! I paid $372.00 at a competitor of Red Rock Auto and done in less than 2 hours!!! I obviously picked the wrong company to deal with first. Thanks RED ROCK AUTO for the lesson again with auto repair companies! Before I had them replaced by the competitor I gave Bill at RRA a chance after he admitted to me that he dropped the ball on my car to at least match or beat his competitors price. He checked and said all he could do was reduce about $100.. Oh he explained I get it your budget can't afford it. It's not about my budget Bill dude it's about WAY OVER PRICING FOR YOUR SERVICES !!! The brakes job I was getting wasn't lined with gold!!! As a women who's already aware of being taking advantage of I came out okay. My car was making a strange noise so I brought it here. Waited 3 days to be told I should add my own oil and that they had no clue what the sound was. I then went out of my way to meet with my mechanic friend in Phoenix and he identified the problem within 5 minutes and didn't charge me 80 bucks for literally nothing. If you have self respect, go and find a mechanic that won't price gouge you and waste your time. I can say with confidence that this is the worst automotive repair shop in Sedona greater area. Don't go here, don't support bad business. I fully expect the owner to respond to this with self preserving falsehoods. This place is a saving grace. My husband and I started having battery issues on our way up from Phoenix. We had just had a brand new battery put in the week prior; come to find out auto zone rep did not correctly put in our battery and all of the connections were loose. We were able to get right in when this place opened. They powerwashed it out and let me know I didn't need any of the massive repairs I was kind of expecting. I did have them change out my belts, but even those, they said didn't show signs of failure, but they had squeaked a bit more than I cared for at times, so I went ahead and had them changed as a precaution. My car broke down and AAA towed it to this place, they did an inspection on my vehicle and told me I needed a thermostat replaced and that it was cost me $2000 to replace! Completely ridiculous, and of that the labor cost was $1300. I tried talking to them about the absurd pricing and the guy on the phone was being dodgy about giving me the itemized prices and then he followed it up by telling me the car is also overdue for an oil change and that it's clear the car has a neglectful owner. It was as if he was trying to justify the crazy prices by telling me it's because of a neglectful owner, thing is that car was NOT due for an oil change, it had been changed less than 2k miles ago, so I don't know what he was on about but I was losing my patience at this point. After having enough of their nonsense I did a quick call to other nearby shops and they quoted the repair for $400, safe to say I went with them. I got the dreaded "check engine" light in our Toyota Highlander while in town, and the local auto parts store (starts with an "O" and ends with "Reilly") would not check mine even though it's posted on their storefront that they do. This was due to their covid-19 fear. So I quickly called this establishment and Michael answered the phone. He was courteous and knowledgeable, and he told us to come right over so he could run an engine diagnosis. With his device, he found that the engine was running lean, but it was ok to drive as the printout showed an oxygen sensor issue. Here's the awesome part: my autistic 20 year-old son stayed in the car because he didn't want to get out during the testing, and Michael dealt with his agitation with such patience and kindness! Michael added some injector cleaner, cleared the code, explained the engine diagnosis, and we were off and running in no time. He could have easily nickel-and-dimed us, but didn't. Believe me, you can trust to have your vehicle looked at here, and you won't regret their fabulous service! read more

If I could give these folks 6 stars I would. I was visiting Sedona and my AC fan started to make rattling noises, giving me nightmares about having to drive home to CA without AC. They were able to schedule me in, found the problem, and fixed it at a very very reasonable cost. Then they threw in a 36-month warranty on the repair that is good throughout the US, AND free roadside assistance. Just WOW! What was also very cool is that of course the morning I went to take the truck in, the fan had stopped rattling. They were very cool about just being OK if I wanted to cancel the appointment. I had had another long-term problem with the fan stopping to work after several hours on longer drives, so on a whim I asked them what it would cost to check that out, and then were able to make room their schedule for a longer repair the same day. So I've got a story about the absolute most shady dangerous mechanic service I've ever experienced. I'm pretty knowledgeable about working on vehicles and only take my truck in if it's a job I dont have the tools or equipment for. I have a 95 Tacoma and I needed new ball joints, steering rack, control arm, tie rods, etc. so I call them up and am quoted $5500 for basically a new front end. Which is fine, I drop the truck off and it's taken care of. A few days after getting my truck back I load up my girlfriend and dog to go spend the day out at Apache maid. As I'm driving in I hit a small pothole and heard some grinding noise so I check out the newly done work and everything seemed fine but turned around as something just didn't feel right. So I drive back to the I-17 which is 6-7 miles from where I was. As I was turning onto the on ramp the grinding started again and steering was impossible. I get out and look at everything again to find the tie rod on the right side was disconnected and dragging. If that hadn't come off right when it did me, my girlfriend and my dog would probably be dead. So to me it's clear they forgot to put the cotter pin on the bolt that connects the outer tie rod. I understand this is a simple mistake as I missed it as well. But as a professional mechanic I'd think that's a pretty simple thing to check after a job like that. So I call them up and they tow it and take care of the issue at no cost to me. I was extremely understanding as I get that mistakes are made sometimes. Flash forward 7 months and I call up because I need an alignment done. Bill quoted me $90 I explain I've had work done and the issues I experienced afterward, bill says he'll just take care of it, great I make an appointment for the for the following week and drop it off on that date. Well 2.5 days later it was finally done, 2.5 days for an hour job? What was the point of the appointment? I show up to pick it up and they say it's going to be $120, so clearly I'm frustrated and definitely expressed that and told them what bill said. Come to find that he didn't put that monumental cotter pin mistake in my work history, I wonder why? So they eventually drop the price to $65, cool I don't expect free work but I do expect to pay what I'm quoted at least. I get in my truck to leave and noticed my seat was moved along with my subwoofer which needs to be set aside to move the seat. So I go to move it back a realized every single wire was ripped out of the sub in the process of moving it. Thanks guys! Anyway, I fix it really quick and go to leave. I noticed my AC wasn't getting cold... I flip it on and off a few times and eventually heard the compressor clutch engage. So yesterday morning I go to run errands and the AC Isn't working, I check the fuses and all the wiring and nothings wrong. I hook up my freon gauge and notice it's completely empty, no pressure at all...not only that, but the cap for the discharge port was missing and the connection wiped clean... funny thing is, I checked my Freon pressure the week before I dropped my truck off and it was completely full. I recharged it this morning and there's clearly no leaks in the system. So Put 2-2 together and make your own conclusion. I'm a local to Sedona and have given these people a lot of my money, time and patience. If this is how they treat locals or anybody for that matter they deserve to have any licensing they have taken away. They're lucky I didn't bring up a lawsuit against them. My seat was ABSOLUTELY moved and the wires of my Were ABSOLUTELY ripped out by you. The cap for the high pressure port of my AC system wasn't missing before I took it to you and the Freon was ABSOLUTELY full. You ABSOLUTELY almost killed me, blame it on who you want, it's your business you need to over look major jobs. As far as the wait for the alignment I would have NEVER agreed to three days And $120. Take accountability. UPDATE 1-5-2021 After all of this I noticed some drift in my front end. Upon inspection I realized they ALSO didn't change the rubber grommet on the brand new power steering rack, so I had to do this myself today. It's a $23 part (picture attached), think I would have mind paying an extra $23 on a $5500 price tag for this negligent work?! Bill is a thief, a liar, extremely lazy and unprofessional. I'll be taking legal action as this is beyond unacceptable. Not only for the labor cost but at this point extreme danger to mine and my family's life. See you in court. My husband and I passed by Sedona on our cross country trip from NY to California. We needed an oil change, so we bought our little Fiat 500 over to the shop in the morning and had a very pleasant experience! They worked on our car right away and found a nail in our right rear tire! So the oil change was a good thing or it would have been a horror to change the tire in the middle of Sonora or Mohave desert! The owners wife was nice enough to get the tire patch at another location for us while we waited on the oil change. Coming from NYC, we couldn't believe there were nice peeps like them existed!
