I related to the staff that I heard an unhealthy noise near the air conditioner on my 2012 Honda CRV. I told them that it could just be the serpentine belt tensioner but at 215,000 miles I wanted the compressor, receiver/dryer and condenser replaced as well as the tensioner should that be the problem. Got the car back, and after driving it for a week the noise was still there. Took it back, and they said it needed a tensioner and that it would cost an additional $330.00 to replace it. I objected, and they ticked the price down to $240.00 but after spending $1900.00 on the AC I said no thank you and would take my business elsewhere. Although the AC seems fixed properly, I feel that the business practices exercised by Express Automotive were shoddy and not conducive to goodwill. Camp Verde is a small town and this is not how we should be treating one another. Think twice before you entrust Express automotive with your car and your hard earned money. read more

I had been told by several mechanics (and an auto zone manager in Camp Verde) that my coolant had to be drained before new coolant could be added (long story) but no one had the time to help. I called Express in Cottonwood and drove over there telling them what I needed (or what I thought I needed). But the guy at the front desk ran my VIN (no one else had done that) and confirmed that the two coolants could be mixed. I was on vacation and have zero knowledge with cars. He could have simply done what I asked and charged me whatever. I was stuck and at his mercy. But he did what was right instead, even at a loss of a job for his business. This business is now my go to place for truck repairs!!! They saved me $900.00. I went to a trusted (?) repair business in Prescott Valley and was advised the repair on my coolant system was going to be $1,000+. My friend recommended Express Lube, so I decided to try it. The one part that the OTHER repair shop was going to replace was the reservoir which wasn't the place the leak was coming from. It cost $111.00 for my repair !!! Express Lube will be worth the 1 hour drive for that much of a discount!!! This business knows customer service as it was 20 years ago. After several years of good service, I stopped going to Express Auto about a year ago when they got a new manager and nothing seemed to go right and they were keeping my car excessive times (i.e., 9 calendar days to reglue a rearview mirror that they knocked off). Decided to try them again with the new manager Ray who is quite nice and efficient. On the automotive side, A/C recharge and car check up seemed fine. However, I also ordered the oil change. That went downhill. First they called re my 2002 Mercury with 121K on it and said I also needed to change the auto transmission fluid. Did not pay much attention and said fine. Extra $200 on the bill. Checked later and saw that I changed that fluid at 100K and about 3 years ago. In other words, less than 3 years and 21K on this transmission fluid. I then took in my 2010 Mercury with 39,710 miles on it. Once again, I got a call saying I once again needed to change the auto transmission fluid. Agreed as I was underway driving. Checked my records and I bout that car in July 2021 with 37,470 miles on it. Had all fluids - including auto transmission fluid - changed at that time. So fluid was less than one year old and the car had only 39,710 miles on it now. I asked at Express Auto why this was needed and they said Express Lube is a different operation and they had no idea. I asked at Express Lube and was told that auto trans fluid on a Ford needs to be changed every 30K or five years. Also claimed the fluid was dirty. Odd. Ford says to change every 30-60K in normal driving conditions (and they are very conservative). AA It's recommended to get your transmission fluid changed once every 30,000 to 60,000 miles-or, once every two to four years. Most automotive experts will say that transmission fluid should be changed somewhere between 60,000 and 100,000 miles. Ford does not even pressure for such trans fluid changes and some caution that transmission flushes can cause leakage problems. In both cases, I feel as if I was being hit with an "up charge" to raise revenues at Express Lube. I used them for four cars over 15 years and never had this type of "up sell" treatment before. Never again will I get a lube done there. Suggest anyone else be alert to unnecessary calls to change transmission fluid. It cost me $400 ($200 each time). read more

In July I took my recently acquired 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis with only 30,000 original miles (verified via carfax, condition and 28 service records) to Express Auto for an alignment. The previous owner hit a curb with the right front wheel, damaging the wheel and tire. I had that corrected at Discount tire and they recommended Express for the alignment-steering wheel was 20% crooked, car pulled to the right. I left the car with Express on a Friday with an 11 am appointment, and made arrangements to pick it up from their oil change place next door on Saturday. I explained the issue, that driving it would make it obvious, (I went to Express based on Discount tires and 3 others recommendations). I wish I had read their many poor reviews first. I received a phone call to pay 85.00 for the alignment Friday afternoon and paid over the phone. When I picked this car up Saturday morning, it was quickly obvious it had NOT been aligned-and I had an estimate for close to 1,000.00 for two new lower control arms, citing bushing and ball joint wear. ONCE AGAIN-30,000 miles! NO alignment print out was provided to prove it had been on an alignment machine and had an issue!! I am a retired auto shop owner, a fact I told them when I made the appointment and I DO have a lift in my shop at home as well as a lifetime of repair tools. When I inspected the pristine underside of the car and looked at the bushings and tested the ball joints for wear/play they were perfect! I found another shop in Phoenix to do the alignment, they found no issues with the control arms/ball joints/bushings (imagine that!) corrected the toe and other settings and sent me home with a perfectly steering car. Express Automotive, in my opinion and with this experience, is just another rip off auto repair shop selling people repairs they do not need. In a lifetime of auto repair I never once recommended a repair to anyone that they did not need and it is places like this that give the honest shops a bad name. SKIP this place unless you want to waste your money! read more

I cannot recommend the guys at Express Automotive highly enough, particularly Dustin. I was a thousand miles away from home over the Christmas holiday when my Jeep blew a head gasket, and Dustin was able to get me in right away much to my surprise. They had me back in the road in much less than time I thought possible given the time of year, and for what I felt was a very reasonable price. I'm the type of guy who does all my own vehicle maintenance because I have a hard time trusting shops these days, but I was in a pinch and these guys came through for me when I really needed it. These guys are great. My Jeep has been leaking transmission fluid, and I'm in the process of selling it. I couldn't in good conscience sell it with a leak so I had the guys take a look at it and they immediately found the leak, Troy called me up, and they were able to fix it the next day. They also worked around my work schedule and I was able to drop off and pick up really easily. They're fairly priced, quick, and didn't try to give me (a young woman) any additional "this and that need fixed too" talk which I have experienced often before. So I had a problem with my Dodge charger 2016 giving me a ticking under the lifters really common problem sxt model so I decided to take it to automotive Express could only fix half the problem so they changed out my thermostat couldnt fix the main problem money wasn't the problem if you love your car and the way it functions please don't take it here....... When repairs were done and got the car back was so upset that they couldn't fix the main problem on top of that was involved in a hit and run under their care like you signed papers that they don't guarantee the work but they never says that they're going to damage your car under their care whoever joyride my car dinged it had a hard time getting surveillance of happened heads up! Really helpful over the phone, I was able to schedule an appointment and they were ready for me in right on time. Car was held an hour longer than I was told, no biggie . Only complaint I have was the pricing, not too expensive but I what I needed done only litterally needed one wrench and a bolt left , and I was charged like $110 but i did not complain not too expensive , and the staff was friendly so I couldn't complain. read more

Sketchy mickey mouse shop. Avoid. After buying a car to go on a short roadtrip with (moving to a new state), I noticed some leaking and took it in to have it looked at, along with a couple other minor fixes. After $2k of work, I took the car home, and found it leaking exactly the same as it had been before. It didn't seem that they test-drove the vehicle, or really check it in any way. When I brought it back, they first diagnosed it as a new leak, but then after ordering parts and starting work on that, they apologized and explained there had been a "miscommunication", and that the power steering hose replacement I had been billed for the first time didn't actually happen, the work hadn't been done at all. I was refunded the $200 for that (the bulk of the cost had been in repairing an oil leak) since I didn't have time before my departure to have them order parts and work on it again. This was strange but not too bad, I figured I'd have it taken care of once I got to my destination. The next thing to happen was on the morning of my departure. One of the issues had been the battery draining overnight. It was a known issue when I bought the car, and I was told it was the alternator. These guys told me it was the radio, and replaced that. The first night afterwards had gone fine, but the second night - dead battery. The issue hadn't been fixed. Oh well, I figured, bad diagnostic, but I didn't pay them for an alternator fix, so I'll just have to get that taken care of at my destination too, and continue taking the ground off the battery at night until then. Then I got to my destination, and after a day the check engine light came on. Took it to a very honest local shop I had done business with in the past. They said the work that had been done was a mess, a mickey mouse job. The cost to fix things correctly would exceed the value of the car, so it was decided no more work would be done. The next day, the car started dropping all its oil, enough that the engine started grinding and the low oil light came on. (The bulk of what I had paid them was to fix the oil leak.) Started feeding it oil as life support, along with the steering fluid I was replacing daily. Then, when I went to take the ground off the battery tonight, the air filter had come off entirely, and was sitting loose on the engine. I realized it had been held on with duct tape, and nothing had been done to address this. The car will now have to be scrapped, and I'll eat a loss of about $4k, because of bad diagnostics and a bad repair. read more

I had a a tiny squeak occasionally when braking my car and thought maybe I needed new brakes since I was just over 100,000 miles. I took it to a different shop first where they said before looking at my car it would cost between $150-$300. After a brake inspection they quoted the total brake job would be $427. I was uncomfortable with the high price so paid the $47 that they charged me for looking at the brakes (I also thought this was pricey). I then took my car to Express Automotive for a second opinion and asked if I could have it inspected for free because I felt I was already spending a bit of money without getting work done, they said ok. After inspecting all my brakes they said I had 40% life left on my brakes and didn't need a brake job and the squeak was probably some dirt on pads that they cleaned off. I ended up giving them $20 for inspection because thats about what they charge for an inspection and I really appreciated their honesty and they saved me $100's of dollars on unneeded repairs! I am now a dedicated client of Express Automotive if I ever need work done on my car. Thank you so much. read more
