Our family of three adults and a toddler came for Mothers Day dinner. We ordered three pasta dishes, a side of broccolini, tiramisu, and lemon marscapone cake. The broccoli was just a tad underdone to our liking but we were in euphoria over our pastas. My tiramisu was good, overly sweet and would have loved more of that bitter coffee flavor. The lemon cake was so good my son stole it from my mother in law. Our server was David. He was on fire, running in this tiny space to us and all of his other tables, making drinks, taking orders, etc. Chef PorkChop was AMAZING. We had reservations are 5 right as it opened. Restaurant filled up pretty quickly. McKensey served us but she had great support, from filling our water glasses to giving us our food items and refilling our bread. Bruschetta, calamari, whipped feta for appetizers were delicious. The frutti di mare, chicken prosciutto, vodka pasta, papa biago's bolognese were filling and a hit with my family. Mambo, formerly known as Ciao Mambo has been a WF staple for years... Mambo has been our "Ole Reliable" when we visit... Respectable Americanized Italian, great customer service, fair prices, huge wine selection, and all-around nice atmosphere makes Mambo one of the most consistent restaurants in WF. We've been visiting WF for 10 years and always make it a point to stop into Mambo because it never disappoints. Definitely recommend a reservation because it's a quaint place and gets really busy on the weekends and peak seasons. read more

We were welcomed at the hostess desk by a young man. Seated us immediately on the deck. Beautiful evening to sit outdoors. Quiet--other than the music from the Ratpack era. Enjoyable! Extremely disappointing treatment of a family and a long-time local patron. I have lived in the Flathead Valley for more than a decade, worked for GRG for over five years at both MacKenzie River and Craggy Range, and have been a Mambo customer for many years. I've never written a nasty restaurant review or asked to speak to a manager. Tonight changed that. We have three young sons and don't eat out often. We specifically chose Mambo to celebrate our two-year-old's birthday because it has high chairs, a children's menu and paper tablecloths for kids to color on. Our server, Michaela, was wonderful and deserves recognition for how kind and attentive she was. Toward the end of our meal, our two-year-olds were getting antsy. One had been crying for less than two minutes, and we were actively calming him down when manager Tanya approached our table and said, "We can hear your children across the dining room. Can I get you some boxes?" In other words: leave. We weren't letting our children run wild. We weren't ignoring them. We were dealing with a tired two-year-old at the end of a birthday dinner. Our server apologized profusely. We had dessert coming with the kids' meals and I still had wine in my glass, but we suddenly felt so unwelcome that we asked her to box everything up. My husband and teenage son took the kids to the car while I stayed to pay. I asked Tanya to come speak with me because I wanted to calmly explain that I disagreed with how the situation had been handled. Instead of apologizing, she interrupted me, told me she found it "unacceptable" that she had brought the disturbance to our attention and that we seemed not to care, despite the fact that we were literally calming our child when she approached. When I reminded her that it was our son's birthday, she said, "Oooh, I know. I saw the note on the reservation," and then proceeded to talk over me and dismiss me with, "Oh, I understand. I'm sorry you feel that way." That's not an apology. That's condescension. I'm a restaurant manager myself. I know children can be disruptive. I know managers sometimes have to address guest behavior. I also know there are professional and compassionate ways to do it--especially in a restaurant that has children's menus and high chairs and markets itself as a place where families gather. This wasn't guest service. It was making a family feel like they were a problem and then being dismissive when we tried to address it. I still tipped our server 20% because she was wonderful and did nothing wrong. But after more than a decade of patronage, I will not be returning to Mambo. And as a former GRG employee and supervisor, this is especially disappointing. I remember when the company genuinely emphasized hospitality, guests and families. If Mambo has decided it is no longer a family-friendly restaurant, they should probably make that clear. Winter is coming. The tourists leave. Locals remember how you treated them. read more

The food was basic southern Italian cooking with many of the pasta dishes we all grew up with. I ordered the lasagna and my wife had the chicken parm. After a few bites I kept checking under the layers to see if I could find any ground meat. I checked with the waitress to make sure she didn't serve me the vegetarian version, but she assured me they didn't offer vegetarian. The chicken parm was dry .... Possibly because it was so thin. Let me start by saying the fresh pasta was awesome! Really really good and I liked the marinara sauce. I always have high expectations with chicken parm and though it was a huge portion I wasn't enjoying it as much as I hoped. Other food options were good and one of our party loved the salmon. I felt the motz balls were average and the minestrone soup was different than most. I was taken back by the flash fried bow tie noodles in it but it was ok but I don't prefer a crunchy pasta in my soup. Came here after a day in Glacier, 2 families for a total of 13 people including small children, and it had some of the best service ever. Never had an enjoyable meal out with that many kids. It has a fairly upscale atmosphere yet somehow was still fine for the kids. Has a great menu. read more

We had high expectations based on reviews but for my party the meals fell below that. I ordered a salad as they did not offer gluten free options. The salad was lettuce, one slice of a mushroom and a sprinkle of small sliced black olives. I asked for extra black olives and was charged $2.00 more. I certainly did not see $2.00 worth of added olives for this $9.00 salad. I mean, a tomato would have been nice. The dressing was too tangy for my palate and they only offered the vinegerette or ceaser. We eat a lot of Italian and were hoping for a richer, more flavorful experience. I was there last night. The service was very good. I ordered Pasta Ravenna and I was disappointed. I live in whitefish and every time I go to Mambo, I order Pasta Ravenna, it was always a good dish. Yesterday, the dish was bad, first they deleted the cream and the sun-dried tomatoes and there was hardly any chicken. I had a few stripes of chicken that were very tough to chew. We used to love this establishment and food. The last few times it is definitely less than medium. The "chef" thinks he is in the show The Bear. The front end "manager" is more than interesting. They weren't even open an hour (we were there maybe 35 minutes), she was barking let's get it together next rush in 10 minutes. Everyone in the restaurant can hear both the "chef" and "manager". The sautéed vegetables were good. The eggplant parmigiana are 4 small pieces, cut thick with the skin left on. The sauce is more like stewed tomatoes, instead of actual sauce. Soft drinks were kept filled and our every need was anticipated. The baked goods are where it is at with this restaurant. The garlic bread is outstanding and the pita supplied in the feta montata appetizer is on point (absolutely the highlight of the meal). The Insalata Della Nonna Giardiniera salad was fresh and vibrant...sadly the dressing was bland and lacked salt. No one it the party really enjoyed their pasta. I ordered the pasta arrabbiata and unfortunately the pasta was pasty with a funk of raw flour, the sauce was watery and the sausage had all the character of a hot dog. My family ordered the pasta with vodka sauce and pasta ravenna...with similar disappointment. Everything is ala carte..we ordered the asparagus and broccolini...basically served raw with burnt (not browned) patches/leaves. The woody ends of the asparagus were still present...poorly executed for a simple side dish. Had a terrible experience with the take out for a large group! We got the lasagna, it was a few layers of noodles and not much else! The salad that was for 6-10 people was only enough for 3! The bread was decent and cookies were good. I contacted them and said sorry and was going to email a gift certificate but that never happened. Would never recommend them! read more

Our meals were delicious here. I ordered what may very well be the best minestrone soup I've ever had. My entree was the Lulubella--rich, creamy, and very tasty. My partner ordered the stuffed chicken in huckleberry sauce with prosciutto. He loved it even though he said that the prosciutto made it a little salty. Our server was friendly and attentive. This place had great reviews online but I was not too impressed. Portion size was great for the pasta but the carbonara is more like a fettuccine. Too buttery and not enough pancetta (even though typical carbonara has guanciale). The garlic bread and the appetizers were the best in my opinion. I never received my wine by my server so I asked to remove from the ticket. Just left full but not entirely satisfied. Our server Melissa was more than accommodating. She was so kind and came over to us just the right amount of times to check on us. Even giving us a pitcher of water in case she got busy. The vibes of the place were so fun. You could definetly dress fancy or dress down (which is what we did). We came in with a party of 6 and they sat us immediately and got our food out in less than 20 minutes. The garlic bread was amazing save room for seconds on that one. 3/6 of us got the pasta pussuci which was to die for I would highly recommend. The prices were fair for what we got. Something has happened here and it's not good. We visit Mambo and it has been our go to place for Italian. We drive from Polson just to come to this restaurant, OK, we also visit the very cool dog park for our pup. The taste has changed and the service was less than perfect. I say perfect because our annoying server kept saying "Perfect" after every encounter we had. We will give it another try but I sure hope it improves over previous visits. We had a delicious dinner at Mambo. We made a reservation ahead of time but showed up about ten minutes early and were seated immediately. We were sat in a sun room adjacent to the main dining area which was nice because it was a little quieter. The service was excellent and we had a carafe of a water at the table which was helpful. The complimentary bread is phenomenal, we also got the mozzarella balls, not pictured, which were good. The food came out promptly, perfectly cooked. I stood there for 15 minutes while the individual at the hostess stand walked around asking a few people how to do to-go orders, walking to food station to look at tickets, helping other customers...I ended up leaving after waiting 20 minutes of not being helped. read more

We are vacationing from southern California and just had a marvelous dinner at mambo's. In whitefish montana. I ordered the seafood and pasta with some trepidation, because I feared the seafood would night be fresh. But I was mistaken. Not only was it fresh seafood, but it was brilliantly prepared and served in what seemed gargantuan proportions. I give it an A-Plus. My wife had the special of the night. It was a lamb stuffed calzone. And it was spectacular, not only in preparation and flavor but also once again, in staggering proportions. We finished the evening dinner with a single serving of tira masu that was as good as it gets. As though this were not enough, i would be remiss if I did not mention that we had a marvelous waiter named Casey who was both charming and efficient and most helpful? When asked for suggestions.
