I booked a night through Booking.com, and had to cancel it when my car went into the shop. I contacted the booking site, and they contacted Red Roof Inn on my behalf. Twice. Red Roof never responded to them. Booking.com said I should contact the property directly at that point, but when I called, they wouldn't speak to me about it at all. I couldn't get there because I had no car, and I was never refunded any portion of the $115 I paid. I will never book this hotel again. read more

Needed a place to stay for a conference at Historic Deerfield and this was the cheapest option (although still quite pricey for the overall stay). Hotel is very rundown with threadbare carpets in the hall and the bathroom has seen better days. Beds were relatively comfortable, but the rest of the room was tired. If you can, look at another hotel that's not so poorly kept. read more

3+ located in S. Deerfield, MA We stayed here twice at the beginning and at the end of our trip in sept 25. The hotel is basic, beds comfortable, showers good, and refigerator worked well. There were dark shades and sound proofing to the nearby highway. The room was clean, but had a slight dog scent especially in the hallways on the lower level. Our first stay was 3+. When we checked in our second time, the room had a stronger scent of dog, and we requested a move to another room which was much better. That original room had food left in refrigerator and when logged onto the tv had someone else name. The staff member, Tammy was quite willing to relocate us to another room. She was understanding and respectful. All morning and evening staff were quite helpful. read more

I contacted corporate due to no internet for almost a week now. They kept saying it was restored, which is not true because I even sent a picture showing it said all bars, but when you clicked on it, it says no internet. I have gone to the front desk several times about this issue with no resolution. We stayed here to move our son into college. The room was damp, there were smudges and stains on the lampshade, some kind of 'rust' on the smoke alarm and the phone handset was FILTHY! I spent time to clean it, only to find out it didn't even work! And we found a few big ants in the room. We will never come back here. read more

The more I think the more negative I get so hear me out: - Sign upon entering was essentially non existent at first. Place has a zoo of a parking lot. The receptionist told us some of the doors weren't working and at first didn't even care where we parked. She FINALLY was like "yeah I guess this door is closer" The room upon first looks was okay. Bathroom was clean. The TV was a pain though. It's a new "smart" TV that would prefer paid movies over live TV. Biggest complaint I guess was the bed. Just HARD and when I woke up it felt like I had spent a night on a cot (lower back pains). Pillows were flat. The electrical outlet was unplugged when we arrived. The pool was there but it looked...foggy :/ had a tough time with the door openers/keycard overall. Even the bathroom door wanted to stay closed!! No breakfast. The building (exterior?) is old or has been through some floods because I think I saw mold?? (Pics). As I said they DID the housekeeping and that was okay/decent. But there still needs to be more updating or they might need to redo an old building. read more

When I say this is the most bare boned minimum of what should be delivered for under 150.00 a night , I mean it. The problem is, it was 300.00 a night. There was no luggage cart. There was no elevator. The keys did not work any of the entrances other than the main. The room had only a half used bottle of shampoo.. no soap, lotion, shower cap etc . There was no free coffee in the lobby. In terms of cleanliness , the property was neglected at best. The only and I mean only good thing I can say is that Crystal at the front desk was nice. I was traveling with my 90 year old mother. It was difficult. If you can stay somewhere else in this area, I urge you to. Nothing is " right around the corner " here. If you are going to have to drive some mileage from place to place.. find something cheaper. I can guarantee you it will not be worse than this. read more

We planned to stay at this Red Roof PLUS+ as it was part of the hotel block set up by my friend for her wedding weekend. As we had spent almost 3 hours through a significant rainstorm from Boston Logan Airport, we were thankful for a dry, safe place to stay. While the room seemed safe enough, we were disappointed to discover that the shower head had broken off the handle. The manager was helpful in replacing the handheld shower head with a regular one. Once used, however, the water didn't drain properly in the bathroom and ended up gushing into the bedroom. We checked out the next morning. Later on, we found that some of the other wedding guests' rooms were fine, guess we just got a bad room. read more

First of all i tried to change my original reservation because our plans changed and the hotel and corporation for that matter was not willing to refund just ONE DAY of our four day stay. OK, so i understand they cannot go against corporate policy. HOWEVER, that was the least of my worries. Our room smelled like wet dog. When we brought this to the attention of the front desk, they said they would go in that day and do a 'deep clean'. Not sure if they did or not, but the room still smelled. If you are going to accept pets - which i am in favor of - you HAVE to step up your cleaning game and use strong deodorizers. One of the windows did not close completely. The sofa bed which my adult daughter had to sleep on was horrid - the mattress was super thin and had holes in some places. The towels were like sand paper and the soap provided was small and like plastic. No lotion or tissues which i would expect to be in the room. NEVER AGAIN read more

If this property is any indication of the quality of the brand, I'll avoid them all. Honestly, my memory must be fading fast because I always had a reasonably pleasant stay at Red Roof before. Some things can't be blamed on the hotel, like the loud mouthed trashy people screaming at the clerk who was on the phone trying to set up reservations as about six people waited in line to check in. It's a staffing problem that falls squarely on the owner. It's an indication of how tight wad they are that a sign in the lobby says if you want soap you have to ask an employee for it. Our room key card had to be adjusted three times in our two day stay there. The first night cost us $276. And that's for a room comparable to Motel 6. Never again. read more

Also it is next to the yankee candle company with 95,000 sq ft of fun shopping for families... The hotel Rooms were updated , clean & well appointed, rooms alone, are similar to a courtyard marriot. We stayed in a deluxe two queen room second floor . The exterior & hallways, along with the doors need an update. The hotel has arcades , two massage chairs , washing machines/dryers & gathering location for groups which was convenient for friends traveling together. Simple, no thrills hotel. We could not get into the first room they assigned us with the keycard. They gave us another room, and the door worked the first time. The next time, we couldn't get in. The front desk reset everything which fixed the problem, but it seems like an occurring problem that they should fix. They did give us a snack box when we first checked in, which was nice. I had a CDL test up the street @ 7:00am, but I live 1 hr 15 mins away and have to arrive by about 6:30am. Decided it would be easier to stay someplace close. Place is kinda dumpy. A little dirty walking into the lobby area, but alas it was late and already made the reservation. The room corridor had a musty smell, likely from the dirty stained rug. Made me think of some busy apartment building, minus the smells of dozens of people cooking. The rooms don't have carpet but Laminated Flooring instead. The room had a funky smell. Wondering if only the bathroom floor gets mopped and the rest ignored. Kings size bed, had kings size divots on both sides. If you try to sleep in the middle, you feel like you're about to roll over into the mattress abyss. It was hard to regulate any temperature in the room for AC. As soon as it gets cool and you can doze off, the unit goes to standby mode, then comes back on when it gets stuffy again. I put the unit on fan hoping to bring in some cooler air from outside, but just circulates the stuffy air instead. I'd leave the window open to my glorious ground floor view of the parking lot, but that requires leaving the curtain wide open too. I also didn't want to hear that stupid refrigerator truck running through out the night any louder. Nor any A$$ Holes that might decide to smoke near my window for any reason. Seems like any of the Hotels/Motels that offer a AAA discount, seem dumpy. Similar situation staying in Philly about 15 years ago. It's been a year and a half since my first stay and I've been back multiple times, it's still a great place to stay and any problems (which are few) get resolved right away. The only thing that people staying there during the pandemic need to be aware of is that they've scaled back some things like housekeeping if you stay less than 3 days. The only issue I had with that was having to put the garbage in a trash bag until I checked out. That's the only issue that I can think of because they only offer a tiny wastebasket for garbage where before they had a few in the room, but the bathroom did have one of it's own besides. read more

Giving this hotel one star is generous. Hotel was filthy. The only reason I'm giving it one star is because the front office woman was very kind and did her best to help. When checking in none of our keys worked and almost every guest that was checking in had issues. My room stunk like a wet dirty dog. Luckily I had brought air freshener with me. When I went to get into the bed, noticed the sheets were dirty. The bed stunk like someone let their dirty dog sleep on it and nobody had cleaned the sheets. I'm not even sure they had been cleaned. Floor was disgustingly filthy throughout the whole hotel. Bathroom was the only thing that appeared to have been cleaned. The wall's were like paper and hotel was very noisy. I'm not one to complain but this place was awful! I did not complain to front desk because the poor women was all alone and had to keep leaving the front desk to help every guest get into their room. Not a bad hotel to stay at for a night if spending a weekend getaway here walking around Yankee Candle Village, or just sightseeing in the county. Cheap and reasonably clean. It is located next door to Yankee Candle's Flagship store, so you can actually walk to it. Decent sized rooms, a pretty nice indoor heated swimming pool, video games for the kids, guest laundry, Wi-Fi, on-demand movies, free local calls, and even 24-hour coffee available. They are also pet friendly. No restaurant on-site, but there are places close by to grab a bite to eat. read more

When our remote B&B got snowed in for the weekend, we had to redirect quickly. A friend recommended this place because of the pool. Usually I am not into anonymous chains but for $60 we got a King bed, internet (although not wireless), and a barn converted into a pool/atrium filled with glorious light and trees. no extra tissue for bathroom, no room cleaning serves. No one at front desk most of the time. Pool water looked dirty. we ran out of toilet paper clean towels and was total we had to stay 4 nights in order to receive these normal serves. we stayed 4 days and 3 nights. The room were over prices because of a convention in town that we were attending. The cost to stay in the hotel was $632.18 for a Premium (they called it) room because they add a $7 snack box smh I do not recommend this hotel especially for that price....that was a $80 a night hotel for sure... read more

The Red Roof Inn in South Deerfield has been our go-to hotel for family and friends visiting the area. We have stayed in this hotel many times before and after their renovation, and we have to say that this hotel has improved since the renovation. The rooms here are clean, the pool is large, and the linens are comfortable unlike other hotels we have stayed in. The staff here is incredible and they have to be some of the most welcoming staff members in the area. When we stayed here for our wedding the staff went out of their way to take care of us, even giving out welcome packages to our guests. This was an added plus and something we greatly appreciated. In the end, this hotel isn't the fanciest in the area but it is a great hotel, it is conveniently located near I-91 as well as UMass' campus. This will continue to be our recommended hotel to folks visiting. read more

This is supposed to be a smoke free motel, but the halls reeked of smoke. Fortunately our room didn't. The room was clean and that's the best thing I can say about it. The beds were HORRIBLE! The pillow menu (2 firm and one soft pillow on each bed) didn't make up for the lumpy, saggy beds. There was laminate floor with carpet between the 2 queen size beds. The bathroom was clean but OLD. Putting a vessel sink on a counter isn't a renovation if the tub has a huge patch in it. The decor screamed early 70's. Did I mention that we paid $300 for two nights? We were there for a wedding or we would have gone home. Oh, and when we went back to our room on the second night our key cards didn't work. We had to wait in the stinky hall for new key cards. BTW, if you have trouble doing stairs, there are no elevators, so book a first floor room... I'd sleep in the car before going back there! read more

TV is designed to make it extremely easy to charge ridiculously overprice programs to the room. We had a 4 year old very quickly spend $57 while my wife was working. Went to front desk and they said there was nothing they could do to rectify. If this business had any sense they could easily add a short pin to prevent this from happening. I've stayed here 7 times and had my keycard lock me outside 14 times. Each time they just ask my room number and give me a key, never even touching the computer or asking my name Anyone could sneak into your room this way. Also adjoining rooms have no lock, the only thing stopping the neighbor from entering is the lack of handle on their side, no lock, no deadbolt, no security flap. It could be opened by a five year old with a ruler. Besides all that, I've spoken to corporate and the manager, and I was promised they'd fix the card system, and stop their employees from telling people their cellphones are the cause. Cellphones CANNOT erase a properly written magnetic strip. Cellphones are restricted by law to emit a maximum of a 40 milligauss magnetic field. A magnetic strip should (by ISO standard) resist 1000 Gauss. You'd need hundreds of thousands of cellphones to erase a magnetic strip. Even if it were possible(it's not, has your debit card ever been erased by your phone?), if your keycard system sucks so bad that cellphones erase them, you should warn customers before they get locked out in a snowstorm. And no apologies ever from the front desk. Instead I get a moron who twice has argued with me that cellphones erased my card. I tried to explain it to her, but she is far too stupid to even understand how the card even works. That's why it's so infuriating to be called a liar by an employee who doesn't have a clue what she is talking about. read more

The hotel was serviceable, but nothing to write home about. The main reason for this review is that they charged us $200 (we had two rooms) for a "SMOKING CHARGE!" This would be laughable if it weren't total fraud because no one in the family would even consider smoking ANYWHERE, never mind this hotel. My husband called the hotel and the rude desk person gave him attitude and claims they have a smoke detector that sends them an email. Guess what RED ROOF, your "smoke detector" is lying. I've never smoked in my life and the children in the room don't either! So there's something really fishy going on. On principle alone, I have every intention of fighting this! What a bunch of crooks! This is an untrustworthy business. Find another place! read more

I'm giving this 2 star rating based on our room, though we knew the people staying next door whose room did not have some of the issues ours did. We stayed in room 241 one night this week. I had 3 major complaints: 1) The shower/tub had nasty stains on the bottom of it which completely repulsed me. Mold? Dirt? Rust? Beats me, but I wasn't using it - blech. And, if that's not clean, who knows what else isn't? 2) The A/C unit on the wall was very difficult to adjust in the dark with a cell phone as a flashlight. It blew cold air on me all night at quite a gust. I got up and rearranged the furniture in front of it to little avail. 3) In the morning, I could see daylight around the edges of the A/C. Turns out there was a significant gap - an inch or more - around it open to the outside. You could see the cars in the parking lot. The room next door had insulation around theirs. It probably explains the bug killing we had to engage in. I'm lucky nothing bigger than a bug got in - a bat or a chipmunk could have fit through. We did not use the pool, so I can't comment on that, and they don't serve breakfast, so no comments about food. I'm sure they're trying their best, but Home Depot must sell insulation and ceramic cleaner and repair liquids that would take care of this and not leave the customer feeling the place was neglected. read more

I was very excited to have a nice 2 night stay at Red Roof Inn since I love South Deerfield. I've stayed here on numerous occasions and have never really had a major problem aside from finding a dirty used hat left in the room from the previous occupant. No big deal right? Can be overlooked. Well, my nice, relaxing weekend that I've been looking forward to has been ruined. First morning here and my boyfriend and I were half asleep in bed and were shaken awake by the sound of a backhoe excavator and shouting. We looked at each other and remarked that it was pretty loud. Then came the sound of the chainsaw. We looked out the window and there it was! Right in front of our window, an excavator digging up the soil and roots with loud construction guys yelling at one another. Why would you book guests in a room when you know work is going to be conducted right outside their window? I'm not one to complain but my boyfriend mustered up the strength and called up the front desk to tell them we were not happy. At first we were told that the best they could compensate us was to take $25 plus tax off our stay, which is nothing. I work hard for my money to enjoy time away when I can and I expect a bit of hospitality when I stay at a hotel. My boyfriend felt bad and asked if he could come to the front desk and speak with the manager on the phone which they allowed. He ended up getting her to agree to half off for the night and to have our room moved to a quieter section which was reasonable. So we ended up moving all of our belongings and figured we had made it through that dilemma and that Red Roof had redeemed themselves nicely. Think again. My boyfriend and I were just sitting in bed watching a movie when he noticed a bug crawling on the blankets! I jumped out of bed and turned the light on. I gave him a napkin and he picked up the bug. I didn't think it was too big a deal but my worst fears of staying at a hotel was confirmed when I asked him to show me the bug! It was a bed bug! I only know what they look like from watching Hotel Impossible too! My boyfriend is now packing our bags at 12am and our "relaxing" stay is now coming to an early end. The security was rude and strict, there was no towels in the pool, the staff acted burdened when I asked for help (visually upset), my room key deactivated 3 times in 4 hours, got locked out in the rain, the local area is dingy and so are the other guests checked in here, the pool has green slime around the outer rim (in which people wrote profanity), the coffee dispenser was empty, walls too thin, paid for a premium room which means there's popcorn in the fridge? Do not stay here. It's for addicts. So gross. So so gross. So so so gross. About to go to sleep. Scared. New Year's Eve ruined. Have to admit the room was clean. read more

The front desk staff was excellent at customer service! Corina was more than happy to ensure I had a courtesy reservation directly at their location as there was a glitch that occurred on the website while making reservations. I wanted to be sure I had a room reserved. As a result of a website glitch, I ended up with a double booking, through no fault of anyone at the South Deerfield location. When I checked in Corina was there to greet me at the desk and suggested I speak to Holly the manager to rectify the billing situation. Holly was more than pleasant when I spoke to her on the phone, as she was not working during my stay. She quickly took care of my issue and followed up with an email confirming the details we had spoken of. The pool at the motel could be a nice relaxing place to get away from the winter doldrums, however, if I were to stay again it would not be during school vacation week. I stayed over the Presidents' Day weekend holiday. This is just a personal preference, as I no longer have small children and the motel was booked to capacity with families. Both the pool area and hallways were quite noisy and less than relaxing but that was more as a result of timing than anything else. The motel is conveniently located right next to the Yankee candle flagship store which is always a treat to visit, and is a mile and a half down the street from the Butterfly Place. A nice place to stay to get away for the weekend even if you live in the Massachusetts area. The only recommendation I would make would be that the Red Roof Inn provide a complementary breakfast as most of their competitors do. Overall, a great experience and I plan on returning soon. read more

This hotel gave us bed-bugs in late December 2014. The front desk offered lots of explanations for the rash of bites we woke up with -- laundry detergent used on the sheets, chlorine in the pool, our dog has fleas, you name it. They denied that they had ever had bed bugs in the past. I wish I had thought to check this page (and online bed bug registries) then! I never would have stayed there in the first place. It is certain that they were bed bugs because we unknowingly brought them straight from the hotel to a family member's home, and she has since been fending off an infestation. Really thoughtful Christmas present; thanks, Red Roof Inn! Do not stay here. If you do, at the very least read up on how to spot signs of bed bugs and check your room thoroughly before you settle in. Our room (first floor, facing I-91) must have been seriously infested to result in the 40+ bites we received in just two nights. If only we'd known how to check for them first.
