Long wait to get in, we were driving to Savanah to Charleston and wanted to stop for lunch in Beaufort, SC. We looked around and found the Red Rooster Cafe to be well rated and full of people. It was a Sunday after church. Our fault for traveling for lunch on Sunday. Our food was good. It took us two hours to get seated and eventually searved our meal after we figured out they must have forgotten to enter our meal into the system. While we waited we had great peach iced tea. I had the Hay Y'all burger with fries, my wife had the Guava Lava Panini, my daughter had the Best Queso-Nario and loved her peach tea also. My son had the Butch Cassidy Burger with fries. All of our food was local diner quality food with good ingredients. The food was definitely not the problem. If I am back in town I will try it again, but not on Sunday lunch after church. The local coffee house attached look like it was popular. If not for the service this was a four star. read more

The service has actually gotten worse since they first opened at the new location. The wait staff was friendlier and more attentive with each other rather than their actual tables and the customers. I was extremely disappointed with the Breakfast at Tiffanys French Toast. The description on the menu states a crunchy breading, so in my mind I'm thinking it's dipped in some sort of batter and fried or at least toasted. Upon receiving the order I found out just how wrong I was. The crunchy breading is CORN FLAKES!!! If I had known that it meant cornflakes, I wouldn't have ordered it. Trying to give it a shot, I took a bite and had my concerns validated, as it truly has a horrific combination. The cornflakes have a seriously weird after taste which I couldn't over power with the caramel syrup unfortunately I know for next time with ordering at Red Rooster to ask for a full explanation/description of ANY dish I plan on ordering. read more

This is an alright restaurant. I am not fond of their offerings, but it wasn't horrible. Most people will probably like eating here though.

Bottom line. I don't think you'll be disappointed with the food taste, but there are a few things. 1. Humid-not so much in the men's restroom, the rest of the place...humid. With the humid smell. 2. Wife had the fried green tomato sandwich. Bread was delicious. Sandwich was delicious, why do I know? Because I ate 1/4 of it. I had Mexican breakfast (can't remember the name) and it's actually a breakfast burrito. Good flavor, really enjoyed it. Problem is it's about 5-6 inches. Not enough to sustain my gigantic 5' 7" 175lb frame. You could get two XXL burritos from Taco Bell for the price of this appetizer. 3. We're not from the area and didn't realize that the resturaunt shares a building with another and you can't tell from the parking entrance. Nothing against the food - I've heard it's pretty good. The staff however are incredibly indifferent, if not just outright rude. I understand that in this time, everyone's short staffed and maybe that's the problem but when you're greeted by a hostess who doesn't even say hello, just "how many" even though we said hello and good morning. She just said 20-25 minutes and walked away!!! That's your hostess?? The one who's supposed to at least fake being nice?? There were 5 tables full in the whole place, 2 employees standing at the bar texting and 3 servers for 5 tables. After other customers complained they had been waiting 45 minutes and were given an uncaring "I know sir" response, we left. Food may be fantastic but we will never find out. We stopped at Red Rooster on the way out of town and it was great. First the town is so adorable. I found the Red Rooster on yelp and saw they had hand cut potato chips and I was sold. We got the "nachos" which were hand cut chips with ranch, bacon, and chips and they were amazing!!! I got the gobbler which is a turkey sandwich with Brie, strawberry jam, and mayo with of course more chips. I usually don't finish everything but I crushed it. However, we walk in, there is no hostess and the servers just walk around looking at you. No, "Hello, we'll be with you shortly", instead they just stare and keep going. Dude! This place scores a fricken 5 stars! Food and service was amazing. This may sound weird, but the soup of the day was tomato bisque, and this alone is what inspired my 5 star rating. It was the best tomato soup I've ever had! And they put like this big chunk of cheesy bread in it for dippin'. Ordered the pimento bacon cheeseburger. I'm not from SC (I'm a west coast boy) so I've never had much experience with pimento cuisine. The waitress brought it out and I was like "do I put any ketchup or sauce or anything on it??" The perfect amount of spicy heat on their Rooster Cogburn burger: pepper jack cheese, chipotle sauce, bacon. The burger, however, was over cooked. Loved the crisp homemade chips! Our table enjoyed the Southern Fried Green Tomatoes with roasted red peppers, and melted Brie cheese. They were fried exactly how they should be - crunchy coating, tender green tomato inside.
