I'm giving 3 stars because I came in July to visit my son and family. And I will say that with everything going on, they may have been short staffed. I was a server for many years and I try not to be an A hole! However, I feel that should have been noted on a sign or at least by the hostess. We came in and there was over an hour wait, an hour and 20 to be exact, outside, in the heat and humidity, with 3 kids. There is not a mist system outside or any fans. However, the food was amazing. We ALL loved it! The cornbread, shrimp n grits (bomb), fried green tomatoes were good and the kids loved what they had. The service wasn't great. I decided to bring the kids back during the week, on a Tuesday. The place was empty, not at all busy, but again, there was at least an hour wait. I just couldn't do it. After 2O minutes we left and went downtown to Hearth and had pizza. They had a sign on the door stating that they were short staffed. Yet, we only waited 20 minutes and had great food and the best service. I really wanted to give this place a shot but sorry I was not impressed. read more

We enjoyed this restaurant, the food is good. However, since the virus has hit this place has become a mess. They have little to no interest in seating you inside. Outdoor seating is fine but not during 90 degrees of Southern humidity! Today they had only two tables occupied inside and we were informed there was a 45 min wait. I understand social distancing but literally only 2 occupied tables. We watched two of the outside tables go unbussed for over 15 min. We finally gave up and ate elsewhere. Sad read more

We visited Fripp Island this past weekend and decided to try Red Rooster Cafe on the way home. The place was busy on a Sunday afternoon, about a twenty minute wait. The service was average and the food was okay. I tried the nachos and subbed the pork with buffalo chicken and blue cheese. I would have to say the nachos lacked flavor, but the homemade chips were really good. My boyfriend tried Breakfast at Tiffany's, and he said it was decent. We both agreed the home fries were really good. Oh yeah, I did a mimosa, and who can complain about a mimosa lol. read more

So, I am pretty sure this place is an old Red Lobster but it has been redone and looks pretty slick. Nice hostess and very sweet waitress, attentive but not overbearing. I had a veggie-queso panini without the cheese (yeah, I know) with the matchstick fries. The panini was pretty well done with a lot of veggies. A little heavy on the oil but not too bad. Fries were not as crispy as I like but the correct salt level. If you want crispy, my associates had the hand cut fires and they were very crispy. Plenty of space to have a nice business conversation for lunch and they kept our glasses full. Would recommend. read more

Red Rooster is a favorite for my family when we visit Beaufort annually. Once, they helped us plan a family party, and the second year we literally just showed up, and they were awesome again. So happy to find a unique breakfast place that open early! Our server was very friendly and had great recommendations. Everything we order was amazing. My husband said the shrimp any grits were the best he's ever had. My only regret is I don't live nearby so that I can try everything else on their menu. This place is in the parking lot of our hotel and looked like a good option so thought we would give it a try. But we waited for two hours and weren't served. Granted it's a holiday weekend and I was prepared to be patient, but two hours is too much. Maybe don't seat so many if you can't serve them in a reasonable amount of time? This is one of the few restaurants that Marines can go to for lunch. Unfortunately, Marines cannot go inside in uniform and I was really disappointed to find out that they refuse to do curbside pick up for the Marines who cannot get out of their car because they are in uniform. Every visit since has been just as great as the first. I've explored a few different menu items and I have yet to find something that I don't like! It's not very often that a restaurant can actually get that right they do a great job on it. Two fresh eggs cooked to order, choice of breakfast meat-sausage, honey- smoked bacon, or baked ham, cheesy grits and a biscuit. $8.95 (copied from their menu) if you like a simple breakfast this is it. Instead of the grits I always request the hash-brown casserole its to die for. Coffee is a bit strong but doesn't change how amazing their food is as well as their staff. So glad we went out of our way to drive to Beaufort and have breakfast here. We were on our way from Savannah to Charleston and decided the Red Rooster's menu looked worthy of a side trip and it was. I stopped in on a slow Tuesday morning around 8 am. I was staying at the Hilton Garden Inn behind it, so I just walked over. The wait staff was very casual, but very attentive. Food was excellent. Exceeded my expectations for an empty cafe on a Tuesday! A daily special was a French toast breakfast- two slices of French toast, two eggs, bacon or sausage, and cheese grits for $11.25. Absolutely in love with this place! I had been hearing great reviews about Red Rooster & decided that it was time to try, especially since they changed to a much more appealing location. The atmosphere, staff & food were all wonderful! There was a wait for our bigger party but it was well worth it! The staff was extremely friendly and had a wonderful southern charm that is expected for Beaufort. I ordered the Toasted Disco sandwich with homemade chips and it was delicious! My husbands cheeseburger & friends fried green tomato BLT looked amazing as well. They both had great things to say about their orders. Our drinks stayed refilled promptly all throughout our dining experience. The portion sizes are great too! I will be returning to Red Rooster, hopefully sooner rather than later!
