Bagel breakfast Sammie with bacon - nice portion but two expensive
    Michael S.

Popular breakfast and lunch location. Friendly family run atmosphere with good food. My only issue with the restaurant is that it is too expensive. Eggs and potatoes starting at $14.99, it is easy to drop $50 between coffee for two and a tip for two breakfast dishes.

2 eggs any way (over medium) with grits and rye toast.

We had the BEST Breakfast at this adorable little spot!! Super clean & bright with rosters all over the place! The wait staff is beyond friendly and the food was SCRUMPTIOUS!!!!!! You know you have stumbled into a special spot when the staff are welcoming patrons by first name and with hugs!! I had the 2 eggs any style (with grits and toast), and the hubs had the Vegetable Benedict, but they let him alter it to have the Black Bean Cake. He had the fruit with it. Let me just start by saying the food was all cooked and seasoned perfectly!!! They made my over medium eggs perfectly! The toast had just enough butter and the grits were creamy with the bright fresh corn flavor I like. On top of that the the portions were very generous while being very reasonably priced. I can not say enough positive things about our experience! If you're looking for a wonderful breakfast spot, LOOK NO FURTHER!! THIS IS IT!!!

We always ensure we can go to the Red Rooster for breakfast or lunch when we are on Marco! There are plenty of delicious options of both the breakfast and lunch variety. All generations love it, as we've been with my parents, in-laws, and my kids and they've all declared it delicious. We went twice on this vacation once for breakfast and once for lunch. I got the Big Daddy scramble the first time and the California scramble the second time, both were great! The big discovery this year was the hash brown casserole. It's potatoey cheesy goodness filled with magic. I would eat platters of that stuff if given the chance! As always, two thumbs up!

Wifey and I wanted to try another breakfast place while in Marco and Red Rooser seemed like EXACTLY the kind of place we love. We arrived early, about 8:05, and the place was empty, but we were greeted cheerily by Alan and our server (Who may or may not have been his wife). The place started filling up a bit right after we arrived. We ordered some coffee while we looked over the menu. Place is really cute and is decorated with (obviously) roosters all over the restaurant. Clearly a place for locals as the owner and server knew a number of people who came into the restaurant, even sitting down with one couple. I ordered the French toast combo - two eggs, hash browns, 1 French toast, bacon and I also had a side of grits. Delicious breakfast...though I would have liked slightly more cinnamon. Grits were good, not watery (in case you don't follow along, if there are grits in the menu I'm getting them...can't find them often in Jersey). Coffee was ok. Wifey got the California scramble - scrambled eggs, avocado, bacon, tomato with rye toast and hash browns. and iced coffee. Hash browns were good but not as well done as she likes. The rest of the her meal...she loved. Our server was SOOOO friendly and attentive. Super nice...I'd come back just because of her (ok, food was great too).

This place has fast customer service and great prices. I really liked the outdoor seating, especially dog friendly. I don't know if it was manager or owner but asked if my dog would like a breakfast bowl! My dog gobbled it up. Breakfast was delightful, highly recommend

The staff was absolutely incredible. The atmosphere was vibrant yet upscale. We started off with complementary bread with an oil (& something paste - I didn't catch the name) which was excellent. I ordered the Cernia Alla Pescatore ($52): grouper, clams, mussels, shrimp, garlic, white wine sauce, grape tomatoes served over spinach linguine. All entrées come with a house salad or you can do an upgrade to a Caesar. I chose the house salad that comes with balsamic vinaigrette. Very well put together, light and refreshing. The Cernia Alla Pescatore was very flavorful and everything was cook to perfection. For desert, I had the Profiteroles ($17): cream puff filled with vanilla ice cream and topped with hot chocolate fudge. What a great way to end a fantastic meal!!! Overall, yes, this was a splurge (expensive) meal but so well worth it!! Highly recommend for a special occasion!

Place was super clean, decor was a tad dated, wasn't very busy during lunch. The pricing on the menu was noted how it didn't increase over time so they are obviously corning the value of their food. Honestly food was good I had the grouper sandwich-blackened. Was good on a fresh brioche bun. With lettuce tomato and red onion. I will say- the waitress did something so sweet! The kids meals come with a choice of fruit, but with a very newly named toddler there's some fruit that hard, honeydew, cantalope it's hard and difficult for a baby to eat. She came and told us she gave us strawberries and blueberries and a little bit of banana because it's hard sometimes for the young baby's to eat! That was so above and beyond and it definitely was one of the top takeaways from the vacation! Keep it up Hoots!

OMG I forgot to say they make their homemade bread and the rye is my favorite. You can call ahead and order a loaf if you want to buy and take one home. You won't be sorry you did. Great service, friendly, and accommodating. Some times there is a wait to get in especially after the churches let out. They serve breakfast and lunch and have daily specials on the board when you walk in. There is indoor and a few tables for outdoor service. Ambience is your average diner type ambience with counter service and 1 small separate room table for a larger party of 6-8. I love this place

We made a reservation ahead of time, which is a very good idea in-season. We asked for a table with a nice view of the sunset and we were given a front row seat to a beautiful sky as we dined - - the sunset colors changed all throughout. Jaklyn was our server and she really couldn't have been nicer and more efficent. She really helped us with our meal selections and is a pro server! She kept my husband's ice tea glass filled all throughout the evening, which is no easy-feat. I enjoyed the wings and a caesar salad while my husband had a salad with fried scallops which I tasted -- they were delicious. The menu is pretty robust - -i needed a little break from seafood that night! And to top off our meal, we had a very yummy slice of their key lime pie - - you really dont get key lime pie very often in NJ, so we took advantage and had to do taste tests during our vacation. This one was pretty close to the top! So if you're looking for a nice casual restaurant with a great sunset every evening, CJ's By The Bay is a winner. Get there early as the parking lot really fills up around sunset time. You can eat inside or out, depending on your mood.
