Had the most delicious breakfast at Red Rose Cafe! Ordered the Dirty Bird omelette. This was DELICIOUS! It consists of mozerella, chicken, peppers and pesto. Lieterally so good - perfectly good. It comes with a side of toast or a bagel i opt'd for wheat bread and it comes with potatoes - which i don't eat - so they swapped in frest fruit. The banannas, blueberreis and strawberries were so fresh - even being on mid winter here! Fast and lovely service. The Cafe has a few seats inside - the day we were there a good steady stream of people coming in and out. In summer or warmer weather outdoor seating as well. We visited this spot on our way to get a Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving and the holiday vibes were up!! Everyone was so friendly and helpful - we grabbed a table near the door for lunch after a short wait - during which we perused the very packed and tempting pastry case! We had a few different sandwiches all of which were fresh and delish. The onion rings were divine and we finished with a couple very tasty black & white shakes that were not on the menu but the server happily created at our request. Love this place. The food is so good, had the Shrimp Po Boy in a pita today with some fries, very tasty! My son had a cheeseburger and he gave it a 10 out of 10, he's 20yrs old, loves burgers and this is only the 2nd "10" to a cheeseburger he's ever given. Took a bunch of desserts home from their dessert case, was hard to decide which ones to try so we'll have to go back soon. Waitress was friendly and lovely. This is a cute little spot nestled in a house right out of the Main Street area of Colchester. It's a very cozy spot and it's very clean and well kept. There were two young ladies working the counter/kitchen and they were very kind and helpful. I went in on a Sunday morning and it was pretty busy- and I can see why. The only downside is I didn't have to wait a little bit for my sandwich. I got a Yankee doodle coffee and a bacon egg and cheese on an everything bagel. I only wish I had been a little more toasted, but besides that it was absolutely delicious. I only ate half so that I could save the other half for lunch because I wanted to savor the flavor. All of their other sandwiches and meals look absolutely delicious and I can't wait to come back and try their lunch! This is a definite must. read more

We stopped into Red Rose Cafe over the weekend after a hike. They had a steady stream of people in and out: you can sit down and order, or be waited on at a table. The service is super friendly. My husband really enjoyed the coffee. We split an egg plate- actually, they split the plate for us, which was really nice! They have gluten free bread as well, and one gluten free pastry in the case. We stopped there for breakfast on our last morning in the area. The friendly staff were able to accommodate us right away. To drink, my wife and I both ordered glasses of orange juice, I had some coffee, and our son had milk. To eat, I ordered the "Dirty Bird" Omelet (chicken, peppers, mozzarella, spinach, pesto) with a side of Home Fries, English Muffin, and House Made Corned Beef Hash. My wife ordered the "Hunter's Breakfast" (two eggs, sausage, home fries, English muffin, two pancakes) and our son had the "Egg Plate" (two eggs, bacon, home fries, toast). Everything was delicious! The Red Rose Cafe was recommended to me by my uncle, and considering he lives in mid-New Jersey, it stood out. Red Rose Cafe is located off the main street towards the rail road tracks. There is parking on the side of the building and outdoor seating in the front. The menu has something for everyone for breakfast and lunch. It's written delightfully on the board behind the register, although you can get a copy to read as well. There are tables making a U shape around the kitchen, including a side room that steps down. There is also a single bathroom in the back. The chocolate milkshake was refreshing on a hot day. It came in a classic cup with whipped cream. The eggs Benedict with corned beef hash was very good, although the hollandaise was a little sweeter than expected. The home fries were crispy and well seasoned. Then when you're done with your meal.... there are the baked goods. They have so many varieties and flavors, from chocolate to lemon to a chocolate chip cookie lava cake. (That, btw, was delicious when heated for about twenty seconds) I've thanked my uncle for his recommendation, this was a great experience! We stopped in here after a day in eastern CT and were shocked to find this small little diner had a HUGE deli case of treats and a full breakfast menu! They offer tons of coffee flavor options and even have gluten free toast! The place was a little cramped, but the staff were so kind and sweet and fun to interact with! Five Stars are my jam! I noticed a while ago that Colchester's Red Rose Cafe has a 5 Star Rating. When my 9 y.o. son suggested at 6:30 am on Sunday that we try a new bakery, I knew just the one. And Yelp told me they were open that early. Red Rose Cafe is not just a bakery, although they do have lovely desserts and pastries. They'll make you breakfast like an Italian sausage and peppers omelette, pumpkin pancakes, a benny breakfast sandwich or apple pie French toast. They'll make you lunch, like a house meatloaf sandwich, a pretzel roll crispy chicken sandwich with beer cheese sauce or a Buddha Bowl with your protein choice, veggies, rice and a honey balsamic dressing. I'll be back for some of that. Red Rose has cute inside/outside seating. Service was exceptionally friendly. My son and I ordered breakfast for a very early visit to nearby Day Pond State Park. With the sun climbing the trees, sparkling the pond and spotlighting the oranges, yellows and reds of CT Fall Foliage Season, it was simply gorgeous. We had the park to ourselves that early! Highly recommend! My bacon, egg and cheese croissant was top notch. You won't get a much better croissant for a CT breakfast sandwich. The sandwich had a good amount of tasty, crispy bacon. The egg was well grilled. The yolk wasn't quite fully set, which I like. I want to see that yolk shine! I chose pepper jack cheese for a pace change. It was well melted and provided a slight punch. For home sharing, I also ordered: an individual strawberry cheesecake with a bright red, oozy, strawberry splashed glaze; a long, icing striped cinnamon roll; a chocolate cookie; and a peanut butter M&M brownie. I slivered off a couple of dessert bites when I got home. The cheesecake was beautiful and delicious. The cinnamon roll was very fresh and good sweet with moderated brown sugar and cinnamon flavors. Red Rose's Five Stars are well earned. With Red Rose's high quality food, great options and outside seating, it's a great spot for families like ours. read more

Hothouse unripened sliver of tomato with a sprinkle of balsamic vinegar layered with the shear thinnest almost slice of indistinguishable cheese I've ever tasted and very few weary basil leaves. But, I did enjoy a bit of the panini crust. When I complained regarding overly long wait~ it was suggested I take it and go. Customer service was nonexistent. $40.00 wasted, lesson learned. Small spot with very limited parking, but there is nothing I can say bad about my first visit here. Breakfast all day along with amazing looking sandwiches, panini and deserts. We had scrambled eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy and pancakes. Btw, their home fries are the absolute best! Their syrup is not Log Cabin, it's something much better and high end. Super thick.
