I've been here a few times now with my husband. Every visit our server has been great and our wait has never been too long. Recently, we stopped by for a late breakfast with our 1 year old. I had the Double Play - I enhanced my pancakes with apples, my husband had the Homemade Hash and we ordered a scrambled egg for our baby. My food was good, our baby enjoyed her egg - she loves food in general though - but my husband thought his meal was just okay. He didn't think the hash was actually homemade. A number of people have raved about Mitchell's on Main. I have eaten at a Mitchell's before, but not this one. I have also eaten in the building housing this Mitchell's when it was a different breakfast place. Mitchell's is not fancy and offers reasonably priced breakfast options. We had a short wait for a table for 5 people on a Saturday morning. They managed the line well and service was pretty efficient once we were seated. I ordered a Sausage Egg & Cheese on an everything bagel. It was decent. The sausage was in link form, which is not ideal for a bagel sandwich. The cheese could have been a bit more melted. Nothing really stood out positive or negative otherwise. I also ordered a side of corn beef hash. It was a fairly standard version. It didn't pop for me, but it was fine. My son ordered a chili omelette with cheese and some veggies. He was thrilled with it. I had a couple bites and it was definitely the best thing I tasted that morning. The chili was sweet. Mitchell's is a fair breakfast spot, and when you factor in price, it certainly could be an appealing option for some people. This is a solid breakfast spot. We've only done takeout so far so I can't comment on the sit down service. I like getting our toddler breakfast quesadillas egg and cheese. She likes them a lot. They also have muffins and bagels, but I didn't see them listed on the online menu. I prefer their pancakes over their French toast. I got oatmeal from them and they had quick-melt brown sugar to go with it which was a nice touch. Came in on a Friday morning for breakfast. This place is so close to my house so it was a super short drive. We came in and we're seated right away and the host grabbed us drinks as soon as we sat down. The waitress Julia was so nice and attentive. She was super sweet, made sure the food was all cooked perfectly, and checked in and filled our coffee regularly. The guy bussing tables was also extremely friendly. Really just an great overall atmosphere in here! We ordered the House Special with corned beef hash instead of the ham. Also the lobster Florentine; both dishes were fantastic. Haven't been back here for so long a time and it's just down the street. Had a very early physical exam and needed some morning fortification so ended up here. Very good Breakfast Sandwich of egg and bacon on a hard roll. This was done just right and was just what I needed with lots of crispy bacon. I stopped by this restaurant to pick up breakfast before work. I ordered the House Special and added fried eggs. I was extremely disappointed with my food. The "shredded potato" was exactly that... simply shredded potato- no crisp to it or house flavor. The entire dish was bland! If you are on a low or no sodium diet- this place is probably a good fit for you. Additionally, I have a feeling they do not use pepper or herbal seasoning in their food either. My husband and I decided to try a new spot for Sunday breakfast. After checking out the Yelp reviews for the places in the area we had not tried yet, we settled on Mitchell's on Main. When we got there, there was a little bit of a wait. It gave us the chance to check out the extensive list of specials on the board. They all sounded great, a lot of stuff similar to what you'd find at O'Rourke's (banana walnut bread French toast, homemade roast beef hash, strawberry bananas foster stuffed French toast, etc). However, the prices were far more reasonable than at O'Rourke's, and the restaurant is larger and warmer, and the parking is better. I knew as soon as I read the specials that I had to have the strawberry and bananas foster stuffed French toast. We got seated in less than 10 minutes at a booth in the back section of the restaurant. We were asked immediately if we wanted coffee, and we got one coffee and one herbal tea. They had a good herbal tea selection, which I was happy about since I gave up caffeine over the summer. However, they didn't bring us spoons, so we had to stir our drinks with forks. Not a big deal but it's one of those details that keeps me from rating as a 5. I also asked for ice water and didn't get it. Coffee refills were a a bit slow. We also didn't have knives, one came with my husband's plate, but I had to ask for one. The food was the reason for the 4 rating. It's probably even a 4.5. I ordered the stuffed French toast special, which was fabulous!!! It looked good and tasted better. I also got a side of corned beef hash, which was prepared well done (as I requested) and tasted fresh and homemade. My husband ordered the eggs Benedict and one pancake that was on the specials board - pumpkin white chocolate chips. His eggs Benedict was great...crispy English muffins, flavorful and perfectly grilled Canadian bacon, perfectly cooked egg, good Hollandaise sauce, his pancake was great too. I definitely want to go back soon to try more of the items off the regular menu, as well as more of the fabulous specials!! If the service was just a little but better, I could increase their rating to a 5. We heard our waitress at a table behind us...I guess they were regulars because she rattled off their normal order off the top of her head, so they probably loved the service, I just wish she remembered to bring our water, utensils and coffee refills, pretty basic stuff for a breakfast restaurant. Overall, great experience and wonderful food. Mitchell's will definitely be on our regular rotation for breakfast spots. read more

This morning was my first trip to Mitchell's on Main, and I was very impressed! I was shocked to find something not on yelp! I heard of Mitchell's by word of mouth from some people at one of my local diners. I showed up around 9:30am on a Sunday morning and there was a short wait - perhaps 5-10minutes. The place was busy - your classic local breakfast joint. Once I got sat, my coffee was in front of me within a minute. I must say service is very good here! The menu has a large selection for breakfast and lunch (didn't check to see if they were open for dinner). Prices seemed a little high, but most places in the area have different menus for the weekend - but it was still very reasonable! I tried the "New Special" which consists of 2 eggs, 2 sausage links, 2 strips of bacon, toast (I tried the Raisin bread), home fries, and 2 pancakes! I don't remember the exact price, but with coffee it my bill was $9.20. The home fries were good - they didn't have any onions or anything in them, but the seasoning took care of it. I'll definitely be back! I hear there is another Mitchell's in Rocky Hill so I'll have to check that out too! read more

Toms review was right-on, Mitchell's is a good place to go for Breakfast in Cromwell. It was sad to see Mama Roux's go away, it was a truely unique breakfast joint with a louisiana flair, but its nice to see this place take its place and do a respectable job of filling their shoes .. I have been here a bunch of times already, and i really cant say anything bad about it. I have had omelettes and pancakes and never been let down. Sometimes they are a little slow bringing that first cup of coffee and it feels like eternity at 9am on a saturday, but its always worth the wait. Now with O'Rourkes open again, we don't venture much past Main Street in Middletown for Breakfast (when you are hungry and to get anywhere else means driving by your favorite diner, usually you end up there!) The lines out front dont seem as long as they were when it was Mama Roux's, but i am sure in time people will know about Mitchell's and the lines will be back. They do seem to be open longer than MR's was - which is good for the area. Parking is a little bit weird here - the dirt lot behind the car dealer is always full of puddles after a rain, and the parking spaces along the building are always full - also the interior is kind of an awkward big L shape.. read more

I had the pleasure of breakfast with the family at Mitchell's on Main yesterday. I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to local breakfast spots and I wish I could transport Mitchell's to my hometown. We were seated quickly and provided with much needed good coffee. Our server was efficient, professional and very pleasant. We ordered everything from fresh fruit to pancakes, omelets, waffles and two types of hash. Everything we ordered was high quality and well prepared. The portion sizes were very generous. Order the spuds! You have to visit Mitchell's on Main if you're looking for a family friendly, moderately priced breakfast or lunch spot. Recently, the waitress asked "are you guys all set because we have a line waiting." After she received more than a 20% tip. Normally, I would leave a restaurant to let others sit, but they had just refilled our coffee and we were spending time with family that we haven't seen in a while. I can walk to Mitchell's on Main and have done so many a Saturday morning for breakfast. Great spot for a nice greasy breakfast. It's the type of place where you order a side of bacon and they bring a dozen strips to the table. You order a waffle, and you get a waffle the size of your head. They have some really cool specials...s'mores waffles, banana french toast. The kids love the place. They also have lollipops for after breakfast. Nothing like putting the kids into sugar shock after their carbo-laden breakfast. The kitchen is open. As a former waiter, I find this comforting that the staff can't do any funny business. Service is quick and friendly. You can get out of there in 1/2 an hour, or stay all morning with your coffee and paper. It's up to you. And you can't beat the prices. I just recently moved to Cromwell and haven't ventured out much so I decided to research what sort of restaurants are in the area. I like to support local businesses and thought I'd come here after seeing good reviews and the website. The lady who greeted me was polite and sat me down quickly. The coffee was hot but when I opened the menu, I noticed the prices were higher than the ones listed on the website. I didn't want to make a fuss so I just ordered my food anyways. I understand food costs go up but it's important for businesses to keep public information like menu prices current. When I got my food, it was not hot. It wasn't cold. Just not very hot. Lukewarm, at best. I didn't say anything as I figured maybe the kitchen was backed up. Even though I try to be understanding, I can't excuse inconsistent service. I've worked in customer service long enough to recognize when I'm not getting the same level of service as other customers. Especially when I see customers around me getting their plates cleared and they're being checked on by the server multiple times when my plates sat at my table from start to finish while they had time to laugh and joke with other customers and coworkers. I wasn't rude with the server. I was very quiet the entire time. I didn't try to take up their time. I also left a tip because I'm not the type to be spiteful. I recognize people are trying to make ends meet, especially local establishments. But if the preconceived notion was that I would be the type of customer that would not leave a tip and thats why I got the type of service I received and the idea was to let me know I'm not welcomed, message received. read more
