This restaurant was the choice of my friend who lives in Lafayette! I traveled from Indianapolis and wanted a restaurant that wasn't a chain. This place was perfect! Our server, Kiera, was friendly, helpful in making recommendations, and efficient. The food was delicious! I loved the shrimp tacos--"chili-dusted shrimp" was flavorful without being spicy. My friend enjoyed the Asian Chicken Lettuce Cups. She completed her meal with the Southwest Veggie Egg Rolls she took some home.) We were celebrating, so we both tried desert! This is still one of my favorite places in Lafayette! I love their patio, portion sizes and food! Recently I ordered the almond & Parmesan crusted chicken and it was amazing! For $18 I was able to eat 3 meals because the portion was very nice. I would suggest subbing the spinach for the brussel sprouts. Got a last minute reservation here on Graduation Day! We were about 10 minutes late but the restaurant was able to accommodate. Cute spot! A little confused by the "math" theme but I guess it is near an engineering school! I was torn between the peach salad and the farfalle pasta. I'm SO glad I chose the pasta. It was INCREDIBLE! Made a reservation for two in the dining room for early Saturday evening. Despite the reservation and plenty of open seating in the dining area, the hostess sat us at the worst table in the bar (21+) section. I asked the hostess if we could sit in the dining section. She seemed hesitant at which point I mentioned my reservation details. She said the restaurant only takes reservations for tables, not sections - this contradicts their booking website. I asked if she could see if there was an opening in the dining section. She was incredibly rude and seemed bothered at my request. The hostess goes to the check-in table, looks into things, and seats us in the dining section. She made off putting remarks on the way to the table, which was rude and inappropriate. I've been to this restaurant before and the food was what I expected - OK, but nothing special. The wait staff were nice and courteous. However, the initial experience with the hostess put a bit damper on the evening. I don't plan on going back anytime soon. As an FYI, the restaurant was not at all busy when we arrived, and there were plenty of tables. I don't understand why the hostess was rude. read more

We stopped by in the afternoon. Great appetizers and drinks. We were about the only customers there at ~3:00.

We had not gone to Red Seven for over a year due to poor food quality,service and was 75% empty and they put us in a back room with steps and freezing cold.We sat for a few minutes then switched seats. The food and service were at best mediocre. We waited 45 minutes dinners! They came to our table and told me they had no wild rice,hot huh.? They offered white rice for their highest price seafood dinner. Nothing else,I mean how can you be out of wild rice and use something like plain white rice ? Unbelievable! My wife's dinner was cold as they were probably holding to get the seafood dinner ready. We were in the restaurant for over 70minutes waiting for food or service or freezing. It's been five and a half years since my last review, so I thought that an update is in order, particularly since a few irritating things on recent visits cause me to lower the rating. The quality of the food remains high. The Americana burger that I spoke of in my previous review seems not to be on the menu any more, but several other burgers are, and they are quite good. My current favorite item, however, is the pork chop, which is huge (I get three meals out of it) and delicious. My wife continues to get her go-to item, the lobster mac and cheese, and speaks highly of it every time. (Not surprisingly, though, it has gone up in price since my previous review; it now costs $24.70 instead of $19. The pork chop is the same price.) The one menu item I tend to avoid is the french fries, which aren't as good as you would think they would be in a place like this. Now, about those irritating things. About a month ago my wife and I stopped by here in the late afternoon, about a quarter to five, and she of course ordered the lobster mac. The price on the lunch menu was the same as on the dinner menu, and so was (I think) the portion size, but at lunch you don't get a complimentary salad with your meal. Since we were about fifteen minutes away from the dinner-menu turnover (or so we were told; there was nothing in writing to alert the customer to this), you would have thought the restaurant would, in the name of good customer relations, have thrown in the stupid salad, but no, rules are rules. Then yesterday my wife and I ordered takeout. I placed the order on Red 7's website at around 2:30 PM. At this time, of course, the only menu showing online was the lunch menu. But when I indicated that I would like a 4:30 PM pickup, a dinner menu appeared. Not unreasonably, I took this as a sign that they were now offering the dinner menu at 4:30. I ordered my pork chop and my wife's lobster mac from the dinner menu, and the restaurant accepted my order and sent me a confirmation email. Then, about 4:15 PM, after my wife and I were already on the road to pick up the food (we live in West Lafayette, the restaurant is in Lafayette, about a 20 minute drive away), I got a phone call from the restaurant saying that the pork chop was only available at dinner and would not be ready until "around 5". So we had to turn around, drive home, and then leave again about 20 minutes later. I have no idea why Red 7 couldn't state explicitly when the dinner menu took effect, why they made the menu available and accepted my order when I placed it if it would not be in effect at the time of pickup, and why the restaurant felt the need to wait until fifteen minutes before I was supposed to pick up the food before telling me it wasn't going to be ready. Forwarned is forearmed, I suppose, and from now on, despite what the computer says, I won't be ordering dinner for any time earlier than 5 PM. But these annoying things are precisely the kind of thing that can detract from an otherwise good meal and leave the customer with a (no pun intended) bad taste in his mouth. read more

We came for a weekday lunch because they have a very nice patio area that is dog friendly. I had the fish tacos with fries and they weren't the best I've ever had but they were decent. Service was friendly but a little on the slow side which is understandable in this era of labor shortages. If I had been on a lunch break and needed to return to work, I would have been checking my watch. There were 4 dogs, including mine, on the patio and the hostess spread us out. This was my first time in Lafayette, IN, and some friends suggested Red Seven downtown. They have indoor and outdoor seating, and we chose to eat outside. The service was good. The food was the highlight. We had a couple of appetizers - Southwest Veggie Rolls with avocado dipping ranch and Bacon Wrapped Shrimp with spiced bourbon sauce. They were both really good. For dinner we had the Salmon and the Truffled Lobster Mac & Cheese. Both tasted great. Unfortunately I didn't get to take any pictures because it was a work dinner. This is a good go-to for "fancy delivery" during COVID, without "fancy" price tags. The food is delicious. I was visiting from out of town and dropped by this place for an early dinner. Realistically, this place is 3.5 stars, but I'll round up cause the food wasn't bad. The place is clean and put together and the service was prompt and regularly checked in with our party. I got the lobster mac with a side salad. The lobster mac was good, with a decent sized portion, sufficient lobster, and seasoned well. The salad threw me off a little since I asked for balsamic vinegar dressing, and when it came it was super creamy and thick. We tried to have dinner at Bru Burger but with a 45 min wait expected we decided to walk and see how long the wait would be at Red Seven and were delighted the hostess squeezed us in immediately. With directions we would have to finish our meal within an hour we were seated quickly, drink order taken and menus presented. While waiting for our sangria we had to ask for gluten free options since the menu isn't marked well. Our server was great, asked the kitchen for both appetizer and main meal options that could be offered GF. I ended up with the salmon (delicious) and son had the filet sliders (yum). Surprise of the night was the GF flank steak which the usually unhappy celiacs son would have groaned over since it was not really what he wanted. He LOVED it. The jasmine rice, fresh green sauce on the perfectly cooked steak. Overall a great meal! read more

I have now eaten at Red Seven Bar and Grill four times over the past couple years. I have a student at Purdue and we always eat at Red Seven. She loves the Lobster Mac and Cheese. Funny story, last year after eating dorm food for a couple months, she said Oh My God this Lobster Mac and Cheese is the best food I have had in well two months. My food was great and has been great on every visit. The service staff is great, the front desk/check in has been 50/50, but nothing major, just not super inviting every visit. We've eaten at a number of places in Lafayette and West Lafayette and while our expectations were moderate going in, I was really disappointed by this restaurant. The good - the decor is lovely. It has a great atmosphere and the bar area is really gorgeous. If the weather was nice, I imagine the patio would be nice too. The "not so good" - We were very disappointed not only by the cocktails we ordered, but also by the food. I don't consider myself a very picky person. The calamari was pretty tasty so that I will give a thumbs up. But everything else was quite disappointing. We ordered filet sliders and empanadas. I don't find myself to be a picky eater and both were awful. The sliders were so tough and chewy I could barely bite into them. And the empanadas were dry and flavorless. I was surprised they had chorizo because I could not taste it. I would not recommend this place for anything other than a bottled beer in the bar and that's strictly for atmosphere. read more

The food is pretty great, I had some pasta there with my girlfriend, our waitress was pretty nice and we got our appetizers and meals pretty quick. The whole feel of the place was nice. I could honestly say in this atmosphere, by my taste, it was the only place I walked into where I enjoyed the music I was hearing the whole time. Considering I didn't even know any of the songs they were playing, that's saying something haha. Almond Crusted Chicken, Filet Mignon Sliders, the pulled pork stuffed potato skins were amazing actually and I don't even favor that type of appetizer let alone a potato skins. I expected a bit more from the queso, but we can't get everything we hope for out of one place. Just so you know the chips are, I believe, to be house-made potato chips, not tortilla, so don't order like I did unless you know that from the jump. Well the best place to go to eat. Four out of Five stars. Let's be honest, it was a Saturday night. Early however. Five in the evening, reservation and sitting inside. Wonderful waitress. And, I have said this before and will say it again.... It's a combined effort between the entire staff. We were seated promptly and in a very nice location. The waitress was prompt and responsive. The couple we brought with us excited to try this restaurant for the first time. I have eaten here before for Lunch and Dinner with no problems. How can you screw up a hamburger. Maybe in hind site that's what I should have ordered. But... We ordered our wine and appetizers. Starting with a nice Baked Goat Cheese. Let's take a look at that shall we. Homemade pomodoro sauce with goat cheese and crusty bread. Now this is ok since pomodoro sauce is a simple Italian tomato sauce. Now take that and plop a doppler of goat cheese in the middle. Hmmm, why bake it? Must be their way of warming it up. I followed that up with Lemon Pepper Calamari with again the pomodoro sauce. What could go wrong with this, right? $9 for the Baked Goat Cheese and $10 for the Calamari. That's ok, if its good. The bread was nothing special, had a very small amount of goat cheese and was luke warm. Not really baked. The bread was simply a chibatta bread that was sliced cold. Ok, I can eat that. The calamari was over cooked to the point of almost being burnt. And, can one say chewy? Overcooked. I guess I should have noticed what the rest of the meal was going to be like. However... On the the main course. Four people, Rainbow Trout, Thick Cut Ribeye, Filet Mignon Sliders and Filet Mignon with Bacon Wrapped Shrimp. Sounds delicious doesn't it? The waitress was on time and served them at the same time. That's great. So, here is where things started falling apart. A medium rare 20 ounce thick cut ribeye with yukon gold mashed potatoes, asparagus and a house made steak sauce all for $40. Don't mind paying that for a great meal. But, my guest cut into the steak and it was well done. Yep, not even pink. The line cook missed that one by a mile. The sauce tasted like an A1 Steak sauce right out of the bottle. Let's send that back. Well, when the rainbow trout came out, I as happy to see they served it at least with the skin on and up. Cut into it and, over cooked. Someone forgot to tell the other like cook that you don't cook trout the same way you do a steak. Oh, what about wine reduction sauce you ask, tasted like a mole sauce. The only thing it was missing was a hint of chocolate. Let's think about this for a moment. This sauce is a simple sauce, red wine, garlic, thyme and shallots. There may be other ways of making it and I can't even imagine how they made it taste like a mole sauce. Ok, what about the charred broccoli? It was woody. They didn't trim the ends at all. You could see some white oozing from the end of the stems. And I don't think that was a good sign. Now, the potatoes tasted pretty good. A little lumpy for me but ok. Oh, back to the steak. While I'm looking at my dish, my guest was considering what to do with her steak. She decided instead to go with the Salmon dish. She had thought about it when she chose the steak anyway. So, out comes the pan seared salmon with lemon pea purée, roasted yukon potatoes and other sides and garnishes. It looked petty good. But as everyone knows, looks can be deceiving. She cut into her salmon and,wait for it.... It was raw. I think I saw it trying to swim though the petter relish. My other guests dish, the filets and bacon wrapped shrimp was all overcooked. and the filet sliders were well done too. Wow. Someone in the kitchen, or the entire kitchen needs to go back to culinary school or at least read a few cook books. I walked out and got the manager and showed her the table and explained to her all the problems with the evenings meals. She acknowledged the problem and comped the entire meal. Overall, it was a disaster of a night. Two appetizers and five main courses and not one thing was right. But, keep in mind, it's not the waiter or waitresses fault. I tipped the waitress the entire cost of the meal. read more
