The space is sleek, aiming for elevated coastal dining in Memphis. I recommend making a reservation on Resy or calling ahead by phone. The parking garage at Crosstown Concourse is convenient (the first floor is free for the first two hours, and the other floors are free at all times). There is also street parking available around the area. Upon entry, the hostess stand is immediately to the left, with an open kitchen and a small bar directly ahead. The main dining area is spacious with widely spaced tables, and there is also an outdoor patio. FOOD: 1. Coconut Shrimp Roll (4/5): It's a solid execution with a nice balance of sweetness and texture. The coconut adds a subtle crispness without overpowering the roll, and the seafood flavor still comes through. It's not overly complex. 2. Calamari (4/5): It's lightly fried with a good crunch and not greasy, which already puts it above average. The seasoning is balanced rather than heavy-handed, and it works well as a shared starter. 3. Cajun Ruby Trout with Coleslaw (4/5): This is the most cohesive dish of the three. The trout is well-cooked and lightly seasoned with a Cajun kick that doesn't overwhelm the fish. The coleslaw adds a cooling contrast that keeps the dish grounded. Overall, we enjoyed our time at Briza. Our drinks never reached the bottom before being refilled, and we finished all of the food between the two of us. Would I come back? Yes.

This was unfortunate as I was hoping to try the crab cakes too. Instead I ordered the Peruvian chicken with the creamed corn which was flavorful. I also ordered the kale salad which was not good at all and I love me a kale salad! Thankfully our waitress was very nice and accommodating. I would come back hopefully I can luck up next time when they have fresh crab. This restaurant will be good for a company dinner, a night with friends or a date night.

The food however was honestly meh (in my opinion). I got a creole dish and to be fair my dish looked beautiful. The plating was 10/10 but the taste for me left something to be desired. After eating this dish I questioned if I even like creole sauce because it really just wasn't that good. If this is a preference issue, I honestly don't know. I also thought the charcuterie appetizer had a weird mix of items on it from club crackers, to meat and cheese, and random veggies. Not bad but just kind of a weird mix. My husband ordered the salmon and he said it was good, not the best he's had but it was good. Other friends of ours got the white fish among the many other dishes. I did have a salad with these apples on it which was incredibly yummy. I will say though my dish looked amazing some of the other dishes were not plated well. Not to nitpick but to want to be considered a more upscale restaurant which means charging guest more money than say a local Applebee's then knowing how to appropriately garnish or drizzle sauce to elevate at plate is important (see my picture of the chicken dish). All and all not my favorite restaurant but definitely not the worst!!

Waitress came over to introduce themselves and recommend us starters & drinks for the evening. Starters & Drinks: I ordered the Caesar salad & my man got the goat cheese salad. He ordered a blackberry smash while I got sprakling Pear. Took the waitress some time to come back over so we can order our main course. Took another 30-35 mins for the entrees to come out. Entree: creole spiced braised pork osso buco & short rib pasta. I give this place a 7.5/ 10 due to the food wait times. I will try on another day

This was an early lunch visit with already a good number of patrons at the bar. We love the chicken salad and frozen fruit offered at lunch. Everything is always tasty, ESPECIALLY their hand battered, fresh fried mushrooms with creamy horseradish dip. Always our starter. I love the photos posted near the entrance and bar area. I ordered the chopped sirloin steak, though what arrived was essentially a chargrilled hamburger patty topped with sautéed onions and mushrooms. For my side, I chose the red beans and rice, but thought it tasted bland and the beans were still quite firm, almost as if they hadn't been cooked long enough. I also had a salad that was decent overall, although I had to pick out several brown pieces of lettuce. Oddly enough, the salad ended up being my favorite part of the meal. That said, I'll chalk this up to ordering the wrong items. Perhaps, if I had chosen differently, I may have enjoyed the experience more. Mortimer's has the feel of a cozy neighborhood bar and has a rich history that spans more than 45 years, and I completely understand why some people refer to it as "Memphis' Cheers." I see the Monday night Prime Rib gets high regards so maybe one day I'll come back and order that.
