I am so excited about Red Sugar Cafe! I've been telling all my friends about it. I've been there 4 or 5 times now, both for sit in service and for take-out. They have a smaller menu compared to some places, but there is a great variety of different dishes. My personal plan is to try everything on the menu! The spicy rangoon are delicious! Just enough heat with a very tasty sweet apple dipping sauce. Their pad thai is absolutely amazing, as is their drunken noodles and their yellow curry! The family that owns Red Sugar are so nice. I've only been there a few times, but the cook smiled and waved at me the last time I was there. One of the women behind the counter, after I ordered the spicy rangoon said, "I knew you were going to order those! You always do!" I found it very impressive that only after a couple of visits, these people recognize me! It looks like a tiny take-out place, but their food is amazing, as is their presentation. I love Thai, and the only game in town has been Duck Walk, which I love and it's great, but so expensive that I have to think twice before I order...and they don't deliver. So last night, in the mood for Thai, I remembered Red Sugar Cafe had opened and gave it a try. I am a believer! The pad thai was the best I've ever eaten, and my daughter's boyfriend raved about the crispy chicken wings. My vegetarian daugther LOVED the mango curry and said the veggies were cooked exactly the way she likes them, in fact she said it was the best vegetarian Thai food she has ever had..and that is saying something The price tag was also easy to swallow. The quality of the food here was outstanding. The staff was friendly and the service was great. The tea they serve at the table is fantastic and is sweetened with pandan leaf. We ordered the spicy crab rangoon for an appetizer. Spicy fried deliciousness. For dinner we had the Drunken noodles and the Basil Duck. The meal was great. The duck skin was crispy and flavorful. The reason this place has so many good reviews is because...well...it's actually good. I am a huge fan of Thai food and, living in Wakefield, it's hard to find good places like this. Red Sugar is probably about on par with Porchai in my opinion, the only real difference being that I like my food spicy and Red Sugar certainly delivers on the spicy if you ask for it. Definitely better than the Duck Walk, but most people from around the area would probably tell you that. Some people tend to think that the prices are kind of high, which I can't argue with, but they are no higher than most other Thai places in and around the suburbs. I mean pretty much across the board a plate of Pad Thai and a Thai Iced Tea will cost you roughly 13 bucks anywhere around here. The food is good and fresh(and spicy!) and the owners are friendly, I give this place 5 stars. read more

In response to the 1star review. #1: If you're so worried about price, go to mcdonalds. #2: If you don't know anything about Thai food, stop judging and just eat Chinese food. I say this because I love good Thai food, and this was it. The spicy food was actually spicy. The ingredients are true to real Thai cooking. And it's delicious. This is my go to place in my area for thai. The food is delicious, the portions are great not overpriced and the family that owns and works it are just the sweetest people. We had gone to duck walk the more famous area thai place and the portions were tiny and expensive although they tasted good. I prefer Red Sugar Café anyday. read more

Ordered take-out: Pad thai, tangerine chicken, pan fried gyoza and wings All were excellent. The tangerine chicken had a strong flavor that grew on me as I ate more - now I love it. My only issue with the pad thai was that the chicken was a bit dry. Service was very good, everything seemed cooked to order. Portions were quite large great value. IMO this is on par with Bangkok Spice in Reading Center, but with a more extensive menu. read more

I drove to this restaurant specifically today for lunch, after reading great yelp reviews and checking out their website for the menu/hours/directions. Long story short, don't rely on their website for hours of operations. Showed up for lunch at 1:15 (since the site says they open at 11:30 for lunch), they were closed with a sign saying they would be 'back at 5:30'. So while this wasn't a review on the food, I hope that if I make it back again I will be able to update this with a review on the actual cuisine. read more

Honestly never thought I'd say the best Thai food I've ever had was in Wakefield, MA but it really is! Everything here is delicious (personal favorites are the gyoza and drunken noodles) and made right in front of you in their tiny kitchen. The staff is incredibly friendly as well...better for takeout, as there are only a couple tables inside but bottom line - food here is incredible. read more

First Yelp review for me, but dinner was very good last night. We stopped as a spur of the moment dinner lst night with no knowledge of the restaurant. We were on the way home from the aiport with our daughter and she was hungry for Thai. We ordered takeout and while we were waiting the owner (I'm guessing) brought us eacha cup of tea. We had Pad Thai (of course), Masaman curry, Tomyum seafood soup and several appetizers. They were all delicious and good sized portions to boot. As we were leaving the owner told us that she had put in an order of crab rangoons in along with the rest of the order. I would disagree with the previous reviewer about the quality of the food at the Duck Walk, but it is pricier. I think this may become our takeout Thai place (although it is a perfectly nice space) and duck walk fo rthe more formal occasions. An interesting note for me--there appeared to be only one beef item on the whole menu. read more

When it comes to Red Sugar, I was completely awestruck at the superior quality of the food here. It's a really small place, and I ordered takeout (the pho and pad Thai). Truly amazing tastes. I judge a meal by how quickly I want to take a nap after finishing it. With the pho, I was out like a light after the last spoonful. It's filling, delicious and savory. I will be back! Ate here last night, great food. Went with a few other people and everyone enjoyed their meals. The red sugar wings were good as reported by other reviewers and I had the hot and sour soup which I try at every place that serves it and it was delish. I got my standard red curry dish which was good, not watery like you find sometimes. I would agree with other reviewers that this place has better food than the Duck Walk and is priced better. However, if you are going for ambiance, Red Sugar Cafe does not have that. It's definitely more of a take out place with 3 tables. But the food was great. read more

i really hate writing negative reviews, especially about small establishments, but other than the service, there is really nothing spectacular about this place. i checked out this restaurant after quickly searching on yelp, without checking the menu on its website. it had an average of 4.5 stars. sounded great to me! i was warmly greeted when i entered the restaurant, and i proceeded to sit down and look at the menu. pad thai, choo chee, tom yum....and pho? udon?? general gau?!? is this place supposed to be a thai restaurant??? there were red flags all over the menu! i was a little concerned, but i wanted to give it a chance. i decided to order the spicy tamarind chicken, knowing that tamarind is a classic thai ingredient (not vietnamese, not japanese, not chinese) and i wanted something with a kick. what i got was a chicken dish with a sweet brown sauce that tasted nothing like tamarind. they might have cooked it with tamarind, but it sure didn't taste like it. (and trust me on this. i've eaten my share of tamarind--raw, cooked, in candy form, you name it. it's not sweet, not even in candy form.) what made the dish even more disappointing was that it was not spicy at all. the dish tasted okay, but as the two stars in this review indicate: meh, i've experienced better. so the bottom line: it's a thai restaurant that couldn't get tamarind and spicy right--two very basic thai tastes. tsk tsk! read more

This place is top notch! I am very picky about my Thai food but this place lives up to the hype. I would highly recommend the chicken wings with the sweet chili sauce! I'm not sure why all of the reviews say this place is so good. It wasn't BAD per se, but it certainly wasn't even A-OK. We ordered the crispy rolls and were told they don't make chicken ones anymore so we ordered the vegetable rolls. They were mushy inside and out and the sauce that is usually sweet and spicy was anything but, it was tart and very salty. Next we got the Pad See You Noodles which had wide rice noodles, chicken, broccoli, carrots and egg. It was SO salty that it was almost inedible. Too bad, because the sauce would have been good but it was way too salty and garlicky. Not sure that I would go back here. But on a positive note, the girl who answered the phone and the lady at the counter were exceptionally nice and friendly. read more

This is my new favorite place in town! My wife and I have done take-out here a couple of times in the past week. The first time we tried their chicken noodle soup IPho Ga I think) with basil because my wife was sick and wanted a healthy soup. I tried a bit of hers even though I'm not a soup kind of guy. But, wow, it was really good! Now I am sick (thanks Wifey!) and we ordered the Pho Ga again with some Pad Thai and Crab Ragoon. They all tasted delicious. I'm not a big ethnic food fan and don't like Chinese food. I do like Thai, but never really cared to have it more than a few times a year. I might re-think that now that there's this great place right down the street from us. 5 stars for sure! By the way the staff is very friendly and courteous, bowing to you and thanking you many times! The prices seem very reasonable as well. Try this place, you will not be disappointed. read more

We brought our own wine and were given glasses and an opener. We really enjoyed the Red sugar wings, Thai spicy Rangoon, Massamun curry, and Pad Thai. Flavors were fabulous. I love Red Sugar and think their pad Thai it is the best thing to eat in town. We order out at least 1x a week -- the place is small and dark and not really conducive for parties larger than 4 to a table. We like their garlic udon and their crab rangoons, but we can't say anything else about the food because we love the pad Thai so much, it's really all we order! lol The family who runs RS are terrific -- the young girls at the front are friendly and helpful, and the chefs are eager to accommodate their customers. The only thing that I wish was different was the pad thai options -- they offer just one kind which has both chicken and shrimp included. I think there must be people who prefer one or the other. I would also prefer a larger, less claustrophobic location. Neither will stop me from going there! I'll be there next week ordering, you guessed it.... 5 take-out orders of pad thai! :D read more

Been living in wakefield since 2008 and am very excited that this place is here! Went for an early dinner on a Saturday night. Wasn't too crowded but a good flow of takeout business. The woman was extremely pleasant and the service was awesome. The food was great too with a nice mix of Vietnamese and Thai food. I had their hybrid pho Tom yum. I was craving Tom yum so figured I would get the biggest one they had. Wifey got pad Thai as usual, which she absolutely loved. Will definitely go back. This place is so much better than duck walk. Recently ordered from Red Sugar based off other reviews. The owners/cooks are extremely friendly and very welcoming when I came in. We ordered take out since we had a larger group and the restaurant space was smaller. We ordered the basil fried rice, drunken noodles, massaman curry, and garlic udon noodles. The food was excellent. Our favorite dishes were the basil friend rice and massaman curry. Tons of flavor and very nice sized portions. We live close by so willl definitely be back to try some of the other items on the menu. read more

My husband and I decided to try this restaurant based on the pretty good Yelp reviews. When we first walked into the restaurant we noticed a pretty bad odor - kind of like sewage (perhaps there is a leak somewhere?). We each ordered a different soup as appetizers and they were very good. We ordered the pad thai, pad see ew and the seseme chicken. The meals were all OK, but extremely salty. The owner was very sweet as were all of the girls working in the front area. I would say that this place is OK, but as there are better options right around the corner, I likely won't go back. read more
