Street parking only, but if you're open to a walk, downtown Edmonds tends to have ample parking around the area. When busy, they do provide a buzzer that has a short range, but opens up the opportunity of walking around slightly. Items can be a bit pricey, but they're also very filling. Large space, lots of chatter, and friendly service. Number Three Combo Club - we wanted waffles this time but also bacon and sausage. This was the variety pack we desired, though wish it came with both sausage and bacon! Opted for the bacon and it was thick, fatty, and delicious. One waffle cut into the four quadrants, ready to soak up syrup. Simple, but a classic. Chunky Monkey Pancakes - goofy perhaps, but another timeless classic combo of chocolate and bananas. Three chocolate chip pancakes, fluffy and ready to absorb the Nutella drizzle. Could have a few more chocolate chips embedded for a more balanced spread, but the chocolate drizzle helps spread flavor. Bananas for the healthy balance of course. read more

Hot Dogs in Cars, and Managers Named "Robert" : A Hate Story. I have been a regular patron of The Rusty Pelican since I moved to Washington, just shy of 5 years ago. I take visiting loved ones and friends here, and I constantly extol the service and food to anyone who needs a recommendation for a breakfast spot in Edmonds. NEVER. EVER. AGAIN. The manager, Robert, showed sickening behavior. My partner and I were having breakfast out in front, when we noticed that a fellow patron had left their dog in the car on the sidewalk in front of our table. It was 60 degrees out, and completely sunny. The windows were barely cracked, and the dog was panting and straining its neck towards the venting of the window. We called our waiter over, who was incredibly sympathetic and horrified. He went inside to find the customer. We waited a few minutes longer, and then asked a second server to follow up (they were equally horrified and sympathetic). The second server also did not return. My partner went inside to seek help. It was at this point that they encountered Robert. My partner came out a few minutes later and explained what was happening: he had been in the process of denigrating the employees feelings about the matter, telling them to stop bothering customers and (essentially) quit acting like babies. "This isn't Arizona!" he exclaimed. When my partner asked to speak with him and tell him the situation, he was horrendously rude and confrontational, escalating each polite rebuttal with an agitating escalation of rudeness and denigration. My partner calmly explained that in these conditions, a car's interior temperature can rise to above 80 degrees in well under 30 minutes, not including stifling humidity. These conditions can cause an animal to pass out and die within a similar timeframe. At this point, it had been well over 30 minutes since the patron had parked. During all of this, he refused to even address my partner or look them in the eyes. It was absolutely unacceptable, and ultimately embarrassing for a grown man in a PAID CUSTOMER SERVICE ORIENTED POSITION to treat anyone like that. To be clear: the entire staff were incredible. They came out to check on the dog a few times, and tried their best to confront the owner of the dog, but a certain manager was preventing them. They also apologized profusely, and showed a grace that is exemplary and frequently unseen in today's world. We learned several good lessons today: 1. We should have just called animal control right off the bat. The owner isn't going to learn their lesson without legal intervention, or lethal endings. Thankfully they left after about 40 minutes, and the dog seemed to be conscious. 2. I am never going to eat here again, as long as Robert is employed. He should be left in a hot car out front to teach him some perspective. I wouldn't call animal control for him though. 3. I am going to spend the rest of my days around Edmonds telling anyone who will listen this story. To Robert, if you read this: I hope nothing but bad things happen to you forever, and your behavior is inexcusable. You do not deserve to be employed. To anyone above Robert in a position of management or ownership: fire him. Quickly, and unceremoniously. Do it in front of the kind employees, as a treat. They had a familiar air of exasperation with Robert's behavior, telling me this is normal. And under no circumstances should it ever be. Shame on you Robert. read more

The food is generally very good at Rusty Pelican. We eat at the Mill Creek location often and always enjoy it. Prices are high, but you get what you pay for. That said, we waited nearly an hour for a table for our party of six. They sat us in a booth, clearly designed for 4. A large metal bar sits on the edge of the booth just under the fabric, but there isn't a way to avoid sitting on it when crammed in. OK, it's very uncomfortable, but so be it. The check comes, the (excellent) server graciously separates the bill for us which I appreciate. She added a 20% gratuity which I understand for large parties. However, I did some basic math and recognized they add the tip amount and then charge tax on the bill plus the tip. I pointed this out to the server but she was clearly too busy to do anything about it. While for our table, it's not a ton of money, over time and who knows how many tables, this is, in my opinion a massive and unacceptable mistake. read more

I've been to this location twice and it's in a great area! I've been to the Mill Creek location plenty of times and it's a given that the food is spectacular! I took one of my girl friend's here and it was her first time. We were both looking for breakfast/brunchy options and it is great because they serve breakfast all day and they also have lunch options! The breakfast here, whatever you choose, you cannot go wrong! I've had a good variety of items, from all time faves, to crepes, scramblers and benedicts. Today, I was craving country fried steak under their All Time Faves! You have a choice of white pepper gravy or sausage and I chose the sausage. You also have a choice of homemade potatoes or fruit and you seriously must try the potatoes! Flavors are spectacular and they're thinly sliced with onions. Lastly, you can choose toast, a homemade biscuit or pancakes. The pancakes are delicious but so is their homemade biscuit! This was my first visit to Rusty Pelican Cafe in Edmonds (8/2/25). There are other cafes located in Mill Creek and Woodinville. It was suggested by CC, another Yelp Elite All Star. I lucked out with parking that morning, since our meet up also coincided with the popular Edmonds Saturday Market. Despite arriving shortly after 9am, this spot was packed! Thankfully, RPC has a polished front of the house waitstaff and experienced back of the house kitchen staff that can deal with volume. Menus and water were provided once seated at our booth. Our wait person also had a tray featuring the morning's fresh baked goods. Smart marketing move, because it convinced me to have a lemon blueberry cake slice. Our food came out in a reasonable amount of time. CC had drip with thick cream and the Mill Creek omelette with biscuit and gravy. In addition to the baked item mentioned, I ordered the Corned Beef Hash with potatoes, and buttered toast. Generously portioned, I ate my toast with jam, but took home half of the pastry and entree. This was later absconded by The Homie when I got home and it was deemed, "this is really good, Mom". I would consider this site's interior and decor as slightly upscale, considering this is downtown Edmonds. It's a decent option for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. I met another Yelp Elite here and enjoyed breakfast on a Saturday morning. Surprisingly, it was quite busy at 9 am. The whole party needs to be present before they seat you. Well staffed and efficiently run. The server brings a tray of housemade pastries to the table for you to choose. Coffee is accompanied with heavy cream, which I love. I ordered the Mill Creek Omelette with gravy on the side. The omelette consisted of bacon, sausage, peppers, onion and cheese. My friend ordered the Corned Beef Hash, which is always a good choice. Bonus is you get to peruse the Edmonds Saturday market afterwards if you plan it right. Food is always tasty and service is prompt. Coffee cup was always full. The omelette was fine, made a little different than usual; almost like a scramble? However, I do like the option of getting pancakes as a side! You never see that!! I've not been to a Rusty Pelican, but I've heard it's quite popular in the Pacific Northwest. The cafe is cute, decorated in black and white with booth and table seating inside and some small bistro tables for two outside. You aren't seated until everyone in your party is present. Once you're seated, the server will stop by your table with a tray of pastries of the day, see if anything catches your fancy. My server, unfortunately, did not offer these pastries to me, I just happened to see all other tables get that offer. I think my server was new and they just got caught up in my questions and/or thinking about all they needed to do. I ordered an iced tea, strawberry banana crepes, and a side of bacon. The crepes should have also had nutella in it, but it was just a drizzle and the crepes themselves tasted bland. The side of bacon came with three slices and it was all crisp, not burnt but cooked a bit longer than I prefer. I did receive my own small carafe of iced tea and that's always a plus. read more

First, the pros: Love the ambiance (btw, absolutely stunning b/w photos in the hallway leading to the restrooms- hollywood celebrities of the past). The menu is huge! So many great choices, it's hard to choose! I ended up having their number two combo, which is three small slices of French toast made with cinnamon bread, two eggs, and two links (you can get bacon or ham instead). The French toast was really tasty, although I wished the slices were a little bit bigger. If I had been really famished, this would not have filled me up. But I got my eggs poached, and they were perfectly cooked with lovely runny yolks. One of my friends had the crêpes with lemon curd, and she loved it, ate up every single speck of food! It came with lots of berries by the way. And my other friend had a half Reuben sandwich with a small side salad. The salad was very pretty. She said it was good, but didn't elaborate. I also got their "seasonal coffee" which was vanilla crème brûlée. It was tasty, but I don't know if it was really worth the extra money. The cons: It's just street parking, and that can really be tricky, especially on the weekend, so I would allow extra time to look for parking. They have various types of seating. Last time I was there, I was seated in a booth that had plenty of space. This time around, the hostess led us to a very small booth. As a plus size woman, one look at it, and I knew there was NO way I was gonna fit in that thing. So we had to go back up to the front and get the hostess' attention and have her get us a different table. Nice as she was, I would think that a good hostess could judge whether or not somebody could fit into one of those tiny booths. My two friends are smaller than me, but even one of them said it was too small for her. Also, I'm a slow eater, and our waitress came and started to take my plate without asking if I was done. I had to very quickly say "no I'm not done! " I realize there was just three bites left of my French toast, and one bite left of one of my sausage links, but I had every intention of finishing them, and I was not very happy at her starting to grab my plate. But one last positive... My friends and I had not seen each other in a while, and had a lot to talk about, so we were there past closing time. We weren't the only ones, but we were there a good half hour past closing time, not even noticing that the place was almost empty and they were cleaning the whole time we were talking. But not once did anybody come to say "we're closed and we need you to leave." So I really appreciated that and I let them know as we were leaving. I've been coming here since high school and this spot never disappoints! I will let you know in advance that this spot gets super busy in the mornings/brunch, especially over the weekends- I'm not sure if reservations are available but if it is, I'd recommend doing so (especially if you have a larger group). The interior is well decorated and the bathrooms are also very clean! As for the service, everyone has always been very polite and professional. For food, my family and I ordered the Lumberjack Omelette, buttermilk pancakes with strawberry, and Chicken Souvlaki Gyro. Even though the prices are on the higher end, the omelette does come with potatoes or fresh fruit as well as pancakes. And even though the portions don't look that big, they're super filling so it can definitely last for two meals if you want. Flavor-wise, this place never misses! There has never been a dish that didn't taste good and this place has been my family's go-to for several years. Such a cute place! Went here for brunch with my friends. Menu is pretty big. I had a hard time choosing but settled on the fisherman wharfs Benedict and a Bloody Mary. The restaurant was pretty busy for a weekday morning but it didn't take long at all to get a table for three. We came on a Saturday morning and luckily the wait was only 30ish minutes so not too bad as I've heard this place can fill up quickly. The place is cute, but I will say the booths are awfully small (especially for 3 people where the minimum height was 6'). It's hard to really mess up brunch, but somehow we ended up with unseasoned eggs benedict, a greasy, soggy corned beef hash that I can't even call a "hash" on technicalities, and a crepe that was.... well, the crepe was fine, to be honest. Solid brunch spot. The chicken needed more seasoning but the waffle was one of the best waffles I've ever had. For a busy day they really cranked out the food too. The other small complaint was their inside 2 person tables are very small. The are really one person tables with the size of plates they have. Make sure to go early and come hungry. read more

Passed thru Edmonds one Saturday morning on the way to catch a boat for a whale tour and our family breakfasted at The Rusty Pelican Cafe. It was a fine experience. The name suggested to me we would be dining in sort of a nautical or pirate themed diner, but nothing could be further fro the truth. Decor and ambiance was definitely English or Old South tea room. To give you an idea, my wife said, "this is really cute." Food was not dainty however, and eggs, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, etc. were substantial, tasty, and filling. Coffee was excellent. Service was excellent too, and as we were running late to catch our charter, the real star of our visit was our server Alexandra, who hurried things along and kept us on schedule. Thank you! One bite of the waffle took me back to my mother's kitchen in the 80's. It's sweet without being overly sweet, and you really taste the vanilla. For me, the strawberry was the standout. We tried all of the things - farmer's Benedict, crab Benedict, biscuits & gravy and scrambled eggs with cheese. I came to Rusty Pelican Cafe with family members that lived in New Zealand and were visiting as well as my parents for brunch one time approximately 6 to 7 years ago (writing this review Tuesday 2 January 2024). We had a little bit of a wait and the wait staff was fully occupied by the number of customers. The wait for ordering/the food was a little on the longer side. The bloody Mary was nice and spicy though the bacon was weird since it was very cold and the fat on it tased meh. The Baja omelet was quite tasty with the added jalapenos. I was disappointed in the the corned beef hash skillet. The portion was quite large but the ration of potatoes to beef was 3 to 1. Way more potatoes than necessary. I've been here for brunch a couple times recently as we just moved to the Edmonds area. I would say it's one of the more "fancy" brunch places in downtown Edmonds and seems pretty popular too because I came on both a weekday and weekend and both times the restaurant was pretty busy. I've tried their scrambles and pancakes and both were pretty good but prices are a little steep for being in Edmonds but I guess food prices have increased everywhere! Good amount of street parking and they have a couple of outdoor tables as well. read more
