While the fried green tomatoes were very good and crispy, as were my fries, the fish was definitely "questionable". It had a slightly off flavor and smell, I normally would have spoken up, but once again I was in a time crunch. My dining companion really liked his food at least, and the server was fast and attentive. So it wasn't a total loss. Addendum; I did not suffer any "gastrointestinal distress" so while the fish definitely wasn't outright bad, it was probably right on the edge of it.

The oysters came out fairly quick which were from Virginia. Nice size and cooked as requested. The fish dip was excellent with 2 mounds provided along with chopped jalapeño's and saltines. We also had wings which were on special with 10 wings for $10.99. We asked for crispy along with garlic parmesan which were perfectly cooked & presented. Instead, I ordered 3 sides, Brussel Sprouts, grits and sweet potatoes, each $5.00. They were all good with the exception of the Brussel Sprouts having a gas taste. So too much flame there. My wife eats meat and had the Prime Rib (first time in 20 years). She said it was good and it was $34. The Salmon was also $34. Our friends each had the blackened salmon and they were also $34. These came with 1 side. To us, we felt the food was overpriced. The mostly meat menu caters obviously to only meat eaters and the owner was not willing to make any changes as our friend wanted to leave the bacon oil out, and that didn't happen. I suppose they do not need our business and our friends felt the same way. Of course, after hearing such good things about the place, we were sorry we went there. The shrimp were not deveined so peeling them took a bit more effort, which is not a dealbreaker for me but something to know if you prefer deveined shrimp. The quality of the shrimp varied - some were large, some small, some were fresh, a few were mushy/overcooked. Served with drawn butter and cocktail sauce, which were great complements. But I shouldn't have to remind someone working behind the bar to get the bartender when a customer is clearly waiting for service. The whole operation just felt amateur and poorly managed. What makes it disappointing is that City Fire in Brownwood used to have a decent crowd and a good atmosphere. Tonight it felt almost like a ghost town, and after experiencing the service, I can understand why. I probably won't be going back unless they improve the staffing and service. There are too many other places in Brownwood where the bar staff actually pays attention to their customers.
