Wow. we were on our way down the highway and got hungry. We pulled into the butcher block and looked at the menu and with all the other good dishes butcher block had shrimp and grits. In addition to being my favorite dish, whenever I see shrimp and grits on the menu, I always sample it because each restaurant has an idea of what the very best shrimp and grits are. The butcher block southern style shrimp, and grits were quite a bit different than all of the other authentic, southern shrimp and grits. I tasted. delicious, terrific, wonderful with a little bit of spice and a little bit of buzz just the way I would make it if I knew how to make shrimp and grits. Joan had cranberry chicken salad. It tasted fresh homemade was an ample dish and served over a nice bed of lettuce salad. I actually got a taste of it and it was really good. I hope we can find a place again on our way home. Quaint restaurant. Our server Pam was very informative on all aspects of the restaurant. We had the crab poppers that had a sauce with them that was delicious. They gave us time to have our appetizer before bringing our meal which was great. I had the Chicken salad sandwich w/fries, my hubby had the Black/Blue burger with onion rings. Went on a joy ride drive through the back roads of Central florida northwest of Winter Garden, very happy to lots of nature and cows grazing. Needing to stop for lunch we came upon The butcher Block Kitchen right before it closed at 3pm. There is a lunch time and a dinner time. We ordered the onion ring appetizer, turkey club and French onion soup. The star of the meal was the onion rings, best I've ever eaten so very yummy and crunchy, I was told it was their own batter so if they make anything else with that batter I would get it cause it will taste delicious. The French onion soup was just ok and the club sandwich was nothing spectacular, just a regular club on white bread, they could have spruced it up with real turkey or a better bread and made it shine! I definitely would stop there for those onion rings and maybe their fried fish has the house natter than that would be very good too. read more

One of my colleagues frequents this establishment and orders breakfast all day. In fact, I was the only one of the 4 of us to order lunch and it was 2pm. I ordered a Reuben sandwich and added a side of pancake battered onion rings. The Rueben on the rye and thousand island dressing was tasty and was a good portion. My colleagues ordered omelettes that also looked tasty if it was 9am. We weren't in a hurry but I had a flight in the late afternoon out of Tampa so we ate and headed out. Watched multiple people come in and the server immediately got them menus and drinks and bypassed us a few times. Had menus in her hand and gave them to other tables that came in after. Cute place off the main road on Groveland. Worth your stop. Our waitress Bri was so helpful, cheerful and kind. I started w ice tea it's homemade and very good. Strong. Free refills what can go wrong. Well the water can. It was typical Florida filtered water. I'm a snob and no amount of lemon would make it taste better. The food on the other hand was great. I had the shrimp Cobb and not like other places I've seen shrimp this one was about a dozen good size well cooked and seasoned. The bacon is homemade and there's an app that if I wasn't dieting I would have had. It sounded so good as did all their apps. My salad was plenty of fresh lettuce it seemed like Romaine and iceberg not one leaf as flat or bruised. The dressing I used was Greek and it was really good. My son loved his black and blue burger and he commented it's the first time in a long time that it was cooked as asked. He had the Mac n cheese side and loves it. It had lots of cheese and was gooey hot and delicious. He also tried the corn chowder and loved it. It had a great amount of corn and other goodies inside like bacon. All cooked to perfection and yummy. My mom loved her steak salad it was also plenty of salad bacon and blue cheese. First time here and came for breakfast. For Groveland, you can't ask for more. The food was good with big portions and the prices are better than your chain restaurant. The service was also above average. We sat on the patio where they have plenty of fans to keep you cool. Only negative is we had a to fend off the flies a little more than we would like. The fried green tomatoes appetizer was as good or better than Brennan's (less the crab meat). We ordered shrimp po-boy and flounder sandwich. Such a fun and local hang out spot! The Butcher Block has a variety of burgers and sandwiches to choose from at a great price. We were able to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful weather.
