Sunday 5p - pretty busy and full inside but no wait for a table. Server was busy though. Parking - free lot! Ordered the burger just how it came - big! They're not kidding w the half lb of meat on this thing. You have to add cheese (it doesn't come w it) and there are plenty of topping options to make it your own. Truffle fries - huge portion, enough to share w at least 3 ppl if not more. Fries are crispy and topped w Parmesan, garlic, and truffle oil. A few bites is enough bc it's so rich. Red coat salad - basic except it comes w this slice of fantastic hazelnut cheese that makes it next level. Filling bc of the chicken and sweet from the raspberry dressing. read more

Don't ever order online from Redcoat Tavern. They use DoorDash and it will not take responsibility for any errors in their kitchen commits. They push it off and the customer loses out. We didn't receive some of the items we ordered and the manager couldn't figure out how to make it right. We didn't want to drive back. We asked for a refund. He threw it back to being a DoorDash problem. Unbelievable. For $17 the manager couldn't just "eat"' the error & own up to his Staff's mistake. read more

So. It pains me to do this. I'm not much of a yelper. But, I'm a semi? regular at red coat. I LOVE it. Being a server in a high volume restaurant has made me despise yelp. Because people suck. Mostly, they just complain about stuff that made them upset because they don't understand how restaurants work. Usually, things are blown so out of proportion over the real story, so I always roll my eyes at them and take yelp reviews with a grain of salt. I also understand that people make mistakes and only those things are what you read about. So I will say that out of the dozen or so times I've been here, this place has been great. Good food, good service. I love coming here and still plan on coming here. But tonight, I had one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. Granted, most of it was stuff that was to be expected on a Saturday night before dream cruise. We called to see what the wait time was, only to be told 20 minutes. Sweet! Let's go! Added our names as call ahead seating. We get there and it turns out 20 minutes actually became closer to 50. Hey, I get it. It's not like they can kick people out of their seats. But not one person acknowledged us or even apologized when we asked. I wasn't even that bothered, just getting hangry. When we are finally seated, it's in a tiny section next to the bar, in a small table shoved between another table and the wall. I get it, I've worked at restaurants with similar set up. It takes the server awhile to get to us, but he is pretty busy. Too busy to tell us his name or anything. I've done that plenty of times myself when I'm slammed. Takes awhile to get our order in, and the ticket times were kinda slow. But, hey, Saturday night. Weekend before dream cruise, I get it. They are clearly in the weeds tonight, they have my sympathy. My food was good but my mom didn't have the garlic sauce on her burger. I tried to tell her it was because she didn't ask for it, but then she said that she just assumed that they all came with it, and she's used to the server asking, which ours didn't. I don't eat burgers so I actually don't know, but I will give him the benefit of the doubt that maybe my mom wasn't clear enough. However, he never came back to check on us until she was already finished so we couldn't get some. But then, a group of four snotty old people just DECIDED TO SEAT THEMSELVES at the table right next to us, SKIPPING THE LINE OVER PEOPLE WHO WERE THERE BEFORE THEM. Idiots. I hope they read this. Maybe it's because I used to work at a very high volume taco and hotdog joint one town over that is infamous for their strict rules on community seating. But YOU DO NOT GO TO A BUSY RESTAURANT AT 830 PM ON A SATURDAY AND SEE AN OPEN TABLE AND ASSUME YOU CAN JUST HAVE IT. When I came back from the bathroom, the host was trying to tell them they couldn't sit there, it wasn't their turn yet. Good. I had to wait more than DOUBLE the time I was told. They should have to get up. But this is where I completely almost lost my shit: The server told them "hey it's fine, I don't really care, it doesn't make a difference to me." I HEARD THOSE WORDS COME OUT OF HIS MOUTH. And then the old white people all chuckled to themselves, looking like they got away with stealing all the cookies from the cookie jar. Joking and cheering about it. After how annoying the whole night had been I was just ready to leave. That server completely disrespected his host, the customers waiting who actually deserved that table, and the customers who had already waited for their table like they were supposed to. It was so unprofessional and sloppy and really showed how disconnected they are. Definitely not a team. It was so greedy. The type of server who is willing to break the rules to make an extra buck. My mother (who despite all of this still tipped him 18$ on 40$)who I came with will never come back here, and this is her favorite restaurant. I will probably be back but never on a weekend and I will make sure never to sit in that servers section whose name I don't know because he didn't tell me. I also want to clarify he wasn't mean or rude at all. It was more of a mixture like he was very busy BUT also just didn't really care enough. Tonight, no one seemed to care enough. I still give this place three stars because I don't think one bad experience should negate the positive ones I've had, but the rude old people next to me who were validated by their server in feeling like they were more important than everyone else will not be forgotten. read more

I like this red coat because it's light and there's space. Compared to the woodward one, this one is way more spacious. With that being said, their burgers are amazing and their food is always on point. DOWNFALL- they don't serve canned coke? Like why do you guys only have fountain drinks? I also feel like fountain drinks taste too syrupy and they don't contain any carbonation. First off I just moved here from Las Vegas and worked in hospitality for the last 14 years. So for me to even go this route says a lot. We made a to-go order as this was recommended as best burger. The girl who answered the phone was rude and didn't even give me a total. When arrived to pick it up I made sure to politely tell her how rude she was and I expect the best as I always had to be on top on my game. I live about 5 minutes from this place and when I got home to feed my mom and kid the food was cold and the burger was tasteless and cold. The fact we paid $56 for 3 burgers and fries and onion rings was a little offsetting. Cause you know the girl never gave me the total prior to me driving up there. And there was definitely an auto tip in there as well. I will never step foot in this place and your place should provide great service and great food for those prices. This is regarding the West Bloomfield location. I'm not familiar with the Royal Oak location after dark. This place still makes great burgers, but this location really needs to get some outside lighting. If you go here for a late night dinner, be prepared to come out to find a dark and scary parking lot. I won't be surprised if someone gets jumped. read more

I've been going to a redcoat for years now. The last few times I have placed a carry out order they have messed up my order. Today I decided to order my basic garden salad with chicken, mind you, I repeated my order twice. I came home and there is no chicken. I call to complain because this is the third time they have messed up my order. The manager Frank was not apologetic at all. He didn't believe me because according to the server he didn't hear me say chicken, not my fault. He was so rude. He did not care that they messed up my order for the third time and wanted me to drive back 20 min to get chicken and get charged for it. This place is horrible. The service is the worst, and I will it go back and I will tell everyone I know never to go there. I am beyond angry at them. read more

The food is really good. The fried mushroom appetizer is the best thing u can ever let ur taste buds experience. It's crunchy in all the right places but also soft and heavenly in other places. Highly recommend. As for their burgers, they are just way to heavy for me. I am a burger lover but I had to stop getting their burgers bc I kept getting a headache and feeling so sick and stuffed after eating it. Only this burger does that to me. So today I tried something new and got the fish and chips. It was okay. I would only get it again if I was really really really craving white fish. Go for the atmosphere, but don't stick around for the food. It's a great bar, super busy the night we went standing room only. I ordered carry out, two burgers, a side of fries, and wings. The burger was somewhat flavorless, the wings were not crispy, and the fries looked and tasted like they had been under a heat lamp for a while. To equate, it was a glorified Burger King meal, so save your money on the food and go to burger king and save yourself some money. read more

Delicious as always. Met a friend here for lunch. The Piedmontese Burger (medium), with mushrooms is delicious and lower in fat than regular beef. Make sure you get their Red Coat sauce (mayo, mild onion, etc...). I usually won't order burgers in restaurants because the squeeze all the juices out of them on the grill. Not here. Their skinny fries are good too. As well as other menu items I've had over the years. Just be aware, this place is always dark inside. read more

We just had a wonderful date night at the Redcoat. Our server, Dan, was excellent. Our food was very good. The Yorkshire pudding served with the Prime Rib was phenomenal. They had a good selection of adult beverages. There were a lot of burgers being served, and we will give those a try next time. I've never eaten inside and for the first time I did the Bartender was rude as hell! Literally for no reason. Also, there was macaroni in my salmon dish and I wanted them to remake my food. The manager said "why? It's just macaroni". Ummm sir! There are people with gluten allergies or anything. Doesn't matter why! It doesn't belong in my dish and I want it made over. They also over charged me for drinks and never cleared up how 2 margaritas were $40. I'll probably only get carry out if I do go back. I don't appreciate the service I received. read more

My nephew was visiting from California over 4th of July and I hadn't seen him in 10 years. I wanted to take him to lunch nearby so we decided to go here. He ordered the salmon salad and was impressed with it. Being from San Francisco, he knows good seafood so I was hoping he wouldn't be disappointed. I ordered the iceberg wedge with grilled chicken strips and bleu cheese. I enjoyed it very much. Our server was great; very friendly. We didn't feel rushed during our leisurely lunch. I've been here twice now and both times was pleased enough. Our server both times were slow and had no personality at all. It was hard to get water refills and to order more drinks. The burgers are really good. LOVE the fries and onion rings! The beef tips were way too heavily seasoned, I would ask for minimum seasoning and thank God we asked for no sauce. Sheesh! Come here for the Piedmontese Burgers. Its hard to believe better for you than a Chicken Breast being they taste so good. As for me, it might be true that I've moved past the overly-genteel Red Coat of my New England youth, but short of losing my hearing and my sense of taste altogether there's no way I'll ever go back to this West Bloomfield hellhole.
