I stopped in over the weekend for dinner with a few buddies. We knew ahead of time that we planned to mix the menu up and sample things. So, we asked Maddy our waitress for some patience .. and she was stellar. She gave recommendations, was knowledgeable on the menu, and had a great attitude overall. We ordered several different things to share with each other... For appetizers, we had potstickers, calamari, and some crab cakes. The potstickers were crisped up well, but tasted pretty standard. The crab cakes were thick, meaty, and tasted good. I like mine a bit more crisped and crunchy, but everyone has their style. They were good. Lastly, what really did it for me, was the calamari. Capers, lemon, seafood..... it was cooked perfectly. It did not have the rubbery bite like most places. It was hot, and still had a good bite to it. One of the best calamari apps, i have probably ever had. Entrees... I had the firecracker chicken pasta and a wedge salad. The wedge was... interesting. It came out with the standard lettuce wedge, but all of the toppings were on the side. Slices of onion and tomato, two full pieces of bacon, and an egg. I am typically accustomed to having everything chopped and on the salad.. so i had to cut everything up at the table. It wasnt bad, just odd. BOOM! FIRECRACKER Chicken Pasta. Dried cherries, sun dried tomatoes, asparagus, spicy pasta sauce.... man.... this was delicious. It was actually so good, I contemplated on getting one to go for my fiancé to eat. This was a home run entree. Compliments to whomever had the idea. Desserts Of course, nothing wraps up a bro dinner like sharing a few desserts... We had the tiramisu and the churro cake. The tiramisu was cold, coffee, creamy, delicious. The churro cake was a perfect contrast in warm cinnamon, savory, sponge.... they were both great options. Maddy did an excellent job. It has now been a few weeks since my husband and I visited The Lakes Bar and Grille. I don't remember what I ordered, but I know it was good because I want to go back. My husband got some kind of sub sandwich and he really liked it. The ambiance was lovely, the service was delightful. If I had a better memory I'd tell you all about my entree. I think that this was my first time at the Lakes. I wanted a steak and decided upon the New York Strip. The Strip is not my favorite cut but it was awesome. Cooked to perfection, nicely seasoned, with fingerling potatoes and asparagus. The side wedge salad was good -- not sure why it was deconstructed and the bacon was not diced -- but it was a fine salad. Service was excellent and efficient. I will frequent this place. This was the best restaurant steak experience we've had in quite a while! I had the filet, hubby had the ribeye, and they were both cooked to perfection with a big beautiful pat of butter on top. Veggies were great, French onion soup was flavorful and cheesy, and the drinks were good too. Service was excellent, attentive and friendly. It is a little loud, but nothing terribly off-putting. I have been coming to this restaurant for many years now and have always been impressed with the consistency of how good their food is. The food is always well made with good taste where we have never been disappointed. On this particular night, I ordered the lakes burger with bacon and Swiss cheese and a side of regular fries while my wife ordered the house made turkey burger with sweet potato fries. Both burgers were well made with excellent taste where the bacon was a premium cut of thick bacon which is big deal to me and really puts this burger over the top. Both fries were tasty and crunchy and were an excellent complement to the burgers. Overall one of the better burgers I have eaten in the greater West Bloomfield area. Relative to the setting, the restaurant is clean and bright with a nice modern decor and a very casual/comfortable feel to the business. The wine cellar along the back wall and the fireplace centrally located in the restaurant add quite a bit the to visual appeal of this business and definately make the dining experience that much more satisfying. Also of note, there are numerous TV's that are scattered about the restaurant with good site lines for every table allowing you to watch numerous real time sporting events, at the same time, which is a definite plus if you are into the local sports teams or the game of the week. Relative to service, it is always spot on and friendly with great follow up during the meals. Overall one of the better sit down restaurants in the area and one that should not be missed if you are in the area, especially if you want to watch the game with your meal. read more

The lakes has great food and great service! It's a very nice restaurant with a nice atmosphere.

This may have been an off night. The restaurant was busy for a Monday night but not filled to capacity. We ordered almost immediately because we were hungry. We got the side salad right away. It was presented nicely and was fresh. Then we waited. And we waited. And we waited. My water was empty and 30 minutes later when the server came and filled it, I asked when our meal would be out. She explained that some large "tickets" just came out and that ours should be right out. We waited more. The food still didn't come. We didn't get an update. Finally 45 after receiving our side salads, the stuffed burger and parmesan chicken sandwich arrived. My husband and I were sharing both dishes. The burger was creative and tasty. The fries and orzo with mushrooms were also very good. And even the Parmesan chicken was enjoyable. Then we got the bill. I did see they had a split plate charge for entrees. But usually that's to make sure everyone is ordering something. We got charged $1 for sharing the side salad. No joke. So.... would I come back? Maybe. It's sorta close to where we live. My husband and I stopped in for dinner and drinks last night. I've been wanting to check this place out for awhile now. The atmosphere is super nice, you forget your in a small strip mall. Our waitress was very personable and attentive. I got the Spanish coffee, which was amazing! My husband ordered a tall beer. The wrong one came out the first time but the waitress quickly made it right. My husband got the fish and chips. They were possibly the best fish and chips we've ever had. Two huge pieces of cod with just the right amount of golden brown breading. Tartar sauce was delicious too. He didn't care for the coleslaw. I got the Atlantic salmon. The salmon and the dill potatoes were fantastic. I thought the side of mixed veggies were undercooked. Prices were on the higher side, in our opinion. For years I have driven right in past this place thinking it was a bar, I was mistaken. When the family suggested meeting here for dinner, I admit I wasnt thrilled. But it turns out I was wrong, this place is great. The first thing I noticed was that despite being in a strip mall, the interior is very upscale. We had a cozy and spacious corner booth for 4 of us. Our server was exceptional and very attentive. He took the time to ask the chef some questions for me about food allergies and made sure my meal was safe. My salmon was very good and cooked perfectly. Our group also enjoyed the halibut special, filet and ribeye special. Our server was so attentive that when we paid the bill he noticed our last name was the same as a bottle of wine they had and brought it over to show us. I thought that was really nice of him. Get there early or there will be a line out the door. Plenty of parking but traffic on Union Lake Road can be daunting. read more

The Lakes Bar and Grill was a huge disappointment. We were here a year ago and everything was good, but there was a change in the kitchen or something as the food was terrible and not correctly, or even logically, prepared. Example: fried perch was not fried all the way, then it was drowned in some kind of sauce that was flavorless yet made it all soggy. Potatoes and salmon were dry and poorly made. The chicken parmesan had red sauce mixed with the pasta, but then it was placed on a pool of white creamy sauce of some kind. The whole experience was a huge disappointment. Great place, very quaint. Greeted by attentive/friendly host & waiters. Seating: table, booth or bar. There is a small outside patio but I don't recommend it since it's in the parking lot. Friendly servers, great food, amazing lemon drop martinis! Casual or dressy attire, $$$ but well-worth it. I've had the Ahi Tuna appetizer, salmon, perch, salads and fresh baked bread. First time here. Had drinks and dinner here last night with friends; table of four. Mixed drinks were on the small side. Atmosphere is quaint and was a bit loud, but we didn't mind. Food was fantastic; three fish dishes (Perch was best) and Firecracker Chicken pasta for me. All were super delicious and had our table raving about the food. Server (Adelle) was awesome; prompt with drinks, handled away from the drinking rim of the glass, had a good recommendation for the pasta and had great character/interaction with us. Food was great, server was great, large portions. It's very loud, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Staff is friendly, and super attentive. This place is a great date spot, or just a place to have a nice elegant dinner. I usually come with my friend to this spot after work, and order a lemon drop. They make the strongest lemon drops, but they're yummy! The staff is very generous with their servings, and that makes a huge difference. I sometimes hangout here on the weekends, but it's a little more busier then. All the food I've had here is great, so I don't really think you can go wrong with this place. :) read more

This is a hidden gem in a strip mall, they are usually VERY busy on the weekends so the word must be getting out! This was the third time we came here, the previous two times we just didn't feel like waiting an hour for a table. The ambience is nice at this restaurant, the table was nice and roomy. We started out with their crab cakes. The presentation was very nice and the flavor's were great. I ordered their NY Strip steak, it had good flavors but the quality of the cut seemed a little uneven, a 1/3rd of the steak was cooked as I had ordered it, the rest of the steak was slightly overcooked. It tasted good though. The veggies and the potatoes I ordered with it was very nicely flavored. My wife ordered one of their specials, chicken florentine. I tried it as well, it was very good, juicy and lot's of great flavor. The presentation was really awesome. The service was good throughout, a little slow on the refills of our drinks but it was a Friday night and they were quite busy so that's understandable. Menu is pretty great. They have this chicken parm sandwich that is an A+ recipe. The first couple of times I ordered it I couldn't believe how delicious it was. Unfortunately the last few times I've been there they burnt the chicken breast and it's kinda turned me off to eating there. My gf gets the chicken ceasar wrap and absolutely loves it. I've been hearing about the Lakes bar and Grille for quite some time. Finally decided to stop by this past Thursday. I have to say for a local bar in an interesting location the food was all very good. I have the stuffed burger with pepper jack onion and jalapeño. The burger was very good and although they have to cook them well done it still was juicy. The highlight of my meal which sounds strange were the onion rings. They were so damn delicious I could've eaten 60 of them. Will definitely come back again to try other items read more
