Dropping my daughter off at college and we went here for dinner. While it's not the greatest bbq we have ever had, we thought it was pretty good. The amount of food was insane though. We ordered a tray, nachos and a pulled chicken sandwich. We thought we ordered the half nachos but did end up with the full. The amount of food could have fed 8 to 10 people. The atmosphere I thought was great. The staff were friendly and fun, and the prices, to us, were crazy low for the amount of food you received. I have no doubt this will be a regular for the college kids, and we will definitely be back when we come visit. read more

I stopped in today for lunch and based on the quality of food I have to drop my overall rating to three stars. Today I ordered a brisket sandwich. I knew the brisket was pulled and not sliced when I ordered. The brisket was the driest least flavorful brisket I have had in a long long time and I regretted my meal choice instantly. The sandwich was large and overstuffed which would have been great, except it meant I had to eat a lot of the dried out meat on its own. Even worse the amount of sauce provided was pathetic. If I had a decent amount of sauce it may have hidden the poor meat. Overall I give the brisket sandwich 1 star and do not recommend it to anyone. Another point that was a bummer was neither my sandwich or Mac and cheese were hot. Eating half cold food that's dried out is ok at a backyard bbq but when paying $15 for lunch I am looking for something of higher quality. read more

Stopped in on the recommendation that we try their shanty beans. I'm not a huge fan of baked beans but I wanted to give the place a try and let the person know what I thought. I think I might change my opinion on baked beans. They were really good and not too sweet. I ordered the half chicken with shanty beans and cheese fries. The chicken was pretty mild and not very smoky, but tasted good and left enough for a later snack at home. The beans were good and not too sweet. The cheese fries were nice and crispy. They forgot my cheese so they brought me a cup of the cheese. It reminded me of the warm processed cheese stuff you get on nachos but no spice. I actually liked keeping the fries crispy and dipping. I ordered iced tea but we were there near closing time and they closed down the tea dispensers before I could get a refill. My meal was about $15 and the drink was extra. My dinner partner had the brisket salad and the brisket was decent. I wish everything we had was twice as smoky. That said, definitely a place worth visiting. Service was good and the ambiance is nice but appropriately rustic. read more

Couple things related to other reviews: yes, there is a cross in the restaurant's logo. There are a few religious signs in the restaurant, but they are about blessings and gathering together. Nothing about eternal damnation. Most of the signs are about BBQ! Plus there was awesome blues playing. There was only one bearded burly gentleman there, but he was with his wife and three adorable little boys. Plenty of women present, including myself. I had the ribs, which were excellent, but covered in sauce, which I wasn't expecting and don't care for. The Mac and cheese was fine, no chemical taste detected, and the shanty beans were terrific. We ordered barbecue chicken with fries. It was 1/2 a chicken and l noticed that the white meat was red inside not cooked enough so l decided not to eat it but my boyfriend ate the dark meat and became very ill in the middle of the night vomiting till the morning of the next day. Then it became sick with diarrhea and is only drinking water the full day and night. Hopefully this was an unusual occurance. Yet you lost two customers. read more

Wow. Worst barbecue in a long time. We got a pulled pork sandwich and a brisket sandwich to go. They were served as "build your own": sauced meat on one side, a bun on the other. Not that there's anything wrong with that. The problem was the meat: absolutely tasteless, to the point that even after repeated attempts neither of us could tell with certainty which was the pork and which was the brisket! Not a trace of smoked flavor and I doubt they even did use a smoker though the website claims they do. Just steamed, shredded meat. Speaking of shredding: why on earth was the brisket shredded? Brisket should be sliced! Sauces were nothing special; the hot/spicy was not hot enough, and the regular was pleasantly sweet&sour. Could have used a lot more sauce considering how boring the meat was. There was plenty of leftover meat, but just no interest in eating it the next day. It's going into trash. No sides provided with the sandwich? Not even a pickle or cole slaw? We did order fries and mac&cheese. The fries very very good; I'll give them that. The mac&cheese was adequate. Many of the sides I'd expect in a barbecue joint were not offered, including collards and corn bread. Clientele at the time I came was exclusively big burly bearded men, like a caricature out of central casting. Not a single woman to be seen. Strange. So the bartender, doubling as waiter, Asian, slight build, with earring seemed curiously out of place, as did I in my touristy tee-shirt and mask. But the setting and clientele did add some amusement to the experience at any rate as I sat at the bar waiting for the order to be ready for take-out. read more

We are back!! Came Monday to find them CLOSED!! WE came back and picked up a couple meals! My husband tried the beef brisket sandwich and fries and gave this dish 5 stars!! I had the smoked chicken wings with garlic/Parmesan sauce and BBQ SPICE sauce again. These always please and have become my favorite BBQ! Come try this place! You won't be disappointed! Decided to drive out our way and make a stop for BBQ, only to sit at a table for an HOUR while we waited for our order that NEVER ARRIVED. After watching the hostess pass over us several times, serving many tables (that arrived AFTER we were seated) I decided to confront them for their lack of attention. The hostess explained they did not have a ticket for our order, she also exclaimed she had no idea what we ordered. She then waited approximately 10 more mins or so to come back to our table, advising she couldn't find our ticket. We explained what we ordered and asked if we could get a refund. After arguing, and slight hesitation, and another ten more mins she FINALLY gave us the refund we requested. We will NEVER go here again. Forgive me for saying this, but anyone who gives this 5 stars based solely on the BBQ, really needs to take a trip to the Midwest or South. I've eaten at Q39, Famous Dave's, Jack Stacks, and Oklahoma Joes in Kansas City. Those are 5 star worthy, Redemption BBQ unfortunately is not. I am a BBQ fanatic, I smoke most of the BBQ I eat myself, but when I don't have time I will order from Redemption to scratch my itch. Their BBQ is just "okay". It's not terrible but it's not great. I live in Shippensburg so it's convenient. As for the shredded Brisket...Anyone who has a smoker at home and has messed up a brisket knows there's only two reasons to do it; Your either smoking a Chuck Roast and passing it off as Brisket, or your not properly cooking the Brisket which would facilitate the shredding. The only other reason that I can think of for a restaurant is they are smoking Brisket en masse days before they serve it, and then reheating it. I'm not accusing them of doing any single one of the above scenarios, but there has to be a reason, right? Brisket is the Crown Jewels of a BBQ Establishment. Smoking a perfect Brisket is extremely hard to pull off, so when you do and your a BBQ restaurant and you want to showcase your pit master skills, why on earth would you shred it? You slice the flat and serve it glistening. You cube the point, mix in a little brown sugar and bbq sauce and throw it back into the smoker and make some freakin Burnt Ends aka Meat Candy. Come on Redemption BBQ!!! I want you to do better, I really do. I'm pulling for you guys. read more

Sadly mediocre. This must be one of those 'sometimes it's great sometimes it's mediocre' places. Very bland meat... tasted like it was smoked & then placed in a warming tray with too much liquid. My husband is a KCBS judge & we love stopping at BBQ spots whenever we find one. Never have we ever had brisket & pulled pork that we couldn't tell the difference between. Honestly they looked these same & were so tasteless that we could barely tell them apart except for the fact that the pulled pork had 'pork' written on the box.
